A new paradigm for embodied healing in a unique, experiential, therapeutic process in which expressive movement, guided imagery, ritual, music, and creative expression work together. In Embody, Toni Bergins, the founder and creator of JourneyDance, an internationally renowned dance movement program, shares with readers a powerful way to address trauma mindfully so people can confront it, heal, and grow to love themselves unconditionally, just as they are. Embody is a dynamic, conscious practice that can help people release what no longer serves them and shows them how to stop stuffing/numbing the pain and start feeling, stop over-thinking/limiting, and get moving! Embodiment is the new buzzword in personal transformation, but, most often, it is connected to static practices like breathwork and meditation. For Toni Bergins, embodiment is best achieved through active movement, and has created a practice where people literally get out of their heads and into their bodies! Her program is a trauma-informed one that offers a new promise: leading readers through deep, personal work but making it feel like play. In this book, she turns the heaviness of processing pain and past trauma into an expressive art aligned with the most recent research. Specifically, trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk, writes in his bestselling The Body Keeps the Score, “In order to overcome trauma, people need to feel safe enough to open up their hearts and minds to others and become engaged with new possibilities. This can be done if trauma survivors are helped to confront and confess the reality of what has happened and are helped to feel safe again. In many cultures this involves communal rhythmical activities, such as dancing…” And that is Toni Bergins' mission and method: to help readers move into a new story for their lives. Embody features Toni's prescription for a comprehensive healing journey, comprised of five core elements: · Music, to open the doorways of impulse, imagination, creativity and healing to change mood and awareness; · Movement, to enhance presence and confidence, and release old patterns and traumas; · Mystical Inquiry, where imagery and creative visualization exercises are used to guide readers into an alchemic and shamanic state to investigate past hurts, and learn to trust their instincts; · Prayers and Invocations, to raise energetic vibrations to a positive place with powerful affirmations; and · Journaling, with writing prompts to process inner self-awareness learned on the dance floor or through any of the other Embody elements. This week Colleen and Robyn welcome Nicole Rutsch Nicole Rutsch is a NYC-based Holy Fire Karuna Reiki Master Teacher, Sound Healer, and Herbalist. Nicole works with individuals who want to take their lives in a new and positive direction and helps her clients quell anxiety, reduce stress, and become clear about what they want from life. She grew up on a farm in a town called Stadecken, outside of Mainz, Germany, where she loved to spend time in nature, and developed a deep connection to Mother Earth. Much of her childhood was spent with her grandfather in the field, tending to the family's grapevines, and cherry trees, or learning how to cook traditional German meals and make fruit preserves in the kitchen with her grandmother and mother. Nicole started her career as a photo assistant, which turned into working as a food-stylist. In 2014, she developed her passion for food and started her own successful catering business. Initially, the majority of her clients came from the fashion industry, including Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Vera Wang, Rag & Bone, Michael Kors, Derek Lam, and many more. Shortly after, Nicole expanded into the wellness industry, partnering with clients like Alo Yoga, Athleta, Adidas, and Bandier. While working in the wellness space, Nicole saw a deep need to help people understand the healing powers of natural food and herbs, which led her to herbalism and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Soon thereafter, she began studying at the New York Open Center under renowned herbalists Peeka Trenkle, David Winston, and Drew DiVittorio. The knowledge Nicole gleaned from her studies in herbalism allowed her to begin helping others rebuild their relationship with food in a positive, healthy, and natural way. In addition to healing the body by using healthy food and herbs, Nicole also realized the importance of healing the mind and spirit as well, thus from an integrated wholistic perspective. In the face of challenges on her own personal journey, Nicole became very self-aware and introspective. This led her to begin working with Reiki, a Japanese therapeutic technique, that allows the healer to move energy in the patient in order to encourage emotional and physical well-being. After witnessing Reiki's palliative effects firsthand, Nicole became a Reiki Master, which certified her to practice all forms of Reiki. Shortly thereafter, after beginning to work with Reiki, Nicole also discovered the benefits of working with crystal alchemy sound bowls, a practice known as Sound Healing. By integrating Sound Healing with Reiki in her unique way, Nicole discovered a powerful recipe for alleviating stress and anxiety, and engendering feelings of calmness and gratitude. Experiencing the palliative power of reiki and sound firsthand gave Nicole the desire to share these gifts with the world. This inspired her to begin her current practice, with the intention of helping clients see the enormous potential within themselves for positive change, by harnessing the power of reiki, sound-healing, herbal remedies, and a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, Nicole recently collaborated with Alo Yoga, a renowned wellness yoga brand, to create a groundbreaking meditation series centered around Reiki. This visionary project marked the first-ever launch of its kind, exclusively featured on Alo Moves, their esteemed membership platform. By seamlessly blending the transformative qualities of Reiki with the serene art of meditation, Nicole's collaboration with Alo Yoga aims to guide individuals towards profound inner peace and self-discovery. Nicole is a firm believer that true growth and learning never cease. She wishes more than anything to spread her knowledge and wisdom to others in the spirit of harmony and bringing forth love, light and unity on this journey we call life. Robert Moss is a dream teacher and the creator of Active Dreaming, an original synthesis of dreamwork and shamanic methods of journeying and healing. A former lecturer in ancient history at the Australian National University, he is a best-selling novelist, journalist, and independent scholar. A central premise of Robert's approach is that dreaming isn't just what happens during sleep; dreaming is waking up to sources of guidance, healing and creativity beyond the reach of the everyday mind. We discuss dreaming as a form of travelling, how there are different types of dreams, and his initiation into other realities. We consider dream etiquette, the transformational power of symbolism and imagery, and the potential diagnostic function of dreams. Robert shares the idea of dreams as a form of soul communication, and how we can learn to “talk and walk our dreams”. We consider what aspect of ourselves might survive physical death, the subtle or astral body as the vehicle of dreaming, and the importance of psychic protection. He shares the great importance of dreaming in many cultures, and how in indigenous North America the dominant word for shaman (and also for healer or spiritual elder) means dreamer. Robert has published twelve books on dreaming, shamanism and imagination, including Conscious Dreaming: A Spiritual Path for Everyday Life (Harmony, 1996) - his first and foundational book introducing his marriage of shamanism and dreamwork. Born in Australia, Robert survived three near-death experiences in childhood. He has led seminars at the Esalen Institute, Kripalu, the Omega Institute, the New York Open Center and many others, and offers a three-year training for teachers of Active Dreaming. He has appeared on many TV and radio shows, including the Today Show and Coast to Coast. His books have been published in more than twenty foreign languages.www.mossdreams.comLiked what you heard? The InnerTuning© podcast features teachings from Sri Shyamji Bhatnagar about Microchakra™ psychology and InnerTuning© practices, a methodical system for sustainable psychospiritual growth. The topics include the yoga of sound, the yoga of breath, meditative practices, microtone chanting, Three-Body purification retreats, and much more. Sri Shyamji is the founder of the Chakra Institute, headquartered in the United States. He met his spiritual teacher at the age of twelve in the Himalayas. His Guru initiated him into a rare oral tradition of sacred sounds (Naada yoga) and breath (Svar yoga). In 1967, Sri Shyamji had an insight, in which he discovered the microchakras. According to him they are the pathways through which the light of the chakras reaches our nervous system. Five hours of automatic writing produced a treatise which described 147 stages of human awareness, starting with complete ignorance and ending with enlightenment. The discovery profoundly enriches the classical understanding of the chakras. In addition, he has a unique ability to sense along the spine the openings and blockages. This creates an extraordinarily useful opportunity for people who wish to understand precisely where they are at the present time on the path to enlightenment. As a master of Naada yoga, Sri Shyamji is able to create precise sounds which release blockages within the microchakras. Based upon his assessment of a person's pattern of openings and blockages, he provides them with mantras and InnerTuning© practices to help them progress on their path. Since 1965, he has presented his work internationally in major growth centers and universities, including Bombay, NYU, Sorbonne, Cambridge, the New School for Social Research, the Esalen Institute, the Asia Society, the New York Open Center, and many others. His book Microchakras: InnerTuning for Psychological Well-being*, coauthored with David Isaacs, PhD. was published in English and French in 2009 and 2013 respectively. Today's episode is a guided oatstraw meditation with Robin Rose Bennett. This meditation is also available on our YouTube channel. WATCH HERE A note from Robin Rose Hi, Robin Rose Bennett here, storyteller, herbalist and green witch. I'm blessed to live on the edge of 3,000 acres of protected state forest in northern NJ. And to have been working with, teaching about, and learning from the plants and other plant people for over thirty years. I've learned that herbs are uniquely gifted in helping us heal body, mind, heart and soul. As we attune to their spiritual teachings, they help us deepen our relationships with ourselves, each other and the web of life. And it is a delight and honor to be part of the HerbRally community! When Mason invited me to contribute, I sat down in my medicine wheel and recorded this video as my first offering. I hope you enjoy this meditation with Avena sativa (Oatstraw) where I invite you to put down tiny roots and move like the plant, to have an experience of freedom, fluidity and earth connection. This meditation is also available in her classic herbal "The Gift of Healing Herbs". BUY THE BOOK Robin Rose Bennett is a story-teller, writer, and herbalist. She has been offering classes in Wisewoman Healing Ways: Herbal Medicine and EarthSpirit Teachings since 1986 - at herb conferences, festivals, clinics, medical and nursing schools, and most joyously, outside with the plants. The world is changing rapidly. Between Climate change, ecosystems collapse, and the broken political, economic, and social systems, our nervous systems are put under extreme pressure. Yet, your nervous system holds the key to your health and to being able to engage fully in your life. Herbal medicine and simple rituals aid enormously in moving through these times of evolutionary transformation with more emotional ease, greater mental clarity, and physical and spiritual peace. Nourishing herbs like oatstraw (Avena sativa) and nettles (Urtica spp.) help us find our strength. Nervines can help with pain relief, deep sleep, and clear skin. We'll hone in on the gifts of sedating skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), uplifting St. John's/Joan's wort (Hypericum perforatum. Robin Rose Bennett is a storyteller, writer, and herbalist. Join me as I talk with James Pace about EMFs (electromagnetic toxins) -- which include the invisible forces emanating from power lines, cell phones, appliances, and computers. Electromagnetic pollution directly causes or contributes to imbalance and disease. From the perspective of SV Ayurveda, EMFs pollute and corrupt the nadis (vibrational channels), thereby disturbing mental, physical, sensory, emotional, and spiritual health. Highlights: • What are EMFs (vibrational toxins).• How EMFs pollute the environment and how they enter the body.• How vibrational poisoning “writes over” the body's and the environment's natural rhythms.• Eight main gateways through which EMFs enter mind and body.• How EMFs weaken the pranic energy of the body.• Signs and symptoms of EMF toxicity.• Protections and countermeasures for vibrational pollution.About James Pace:A SV Ayurveda Health Educator & Marma Therapist, James began studying Ayurveda in 1989 at the Ayurvedic Institute in NM, which led to advanced studies including Maharishi Ayurveda in Spain and the Ayurvedic Institute's Gurukula Program In India. After meeting Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, James organized consultations for him in New Jersey from 2004 through 2010. He also served as Vaidya Mishra's Seminar Coordinator in the New Jersey/New York Metropolitan area. These programs included workshops at the New York Open Center, Arsha Vidya Gurukulam (AVG) Saylorsburg, PA, and other venues. At Vaidya Mishra's request, James moved to California in 2016 to assist in a variety of projects, including private health consultations at the Prana Center, Chatsworth, CA. Since Vaidya Mishra's death in 2017, James continues his work with the Prana Center --- in support of Vaidya Mishra's mission of providing intelligent herbal synergies and access to the wisdom of the Shaka Vansiya Ayurveda lineage.

Courage is the Path: Choosing to Continue to Move the Way We want in the World This conversation on my podcast is long overdue! We've had so many convos offline, bombas the conocimiento dropped and we kept saying, “we need to get on the podcast!” So excited to share this powerful soul and her inspirational journey! Shama shares how she experienced truth and a spark of awareness connecting with her friend while hiding in a dark closet at thirteen. How she knew she was designed for more than what an Islamic Indian home was preparing her for. First- generation Americans and their parents who seem to keep a timestamp from their time of emigration into the US. Turning away from Islam and arranged marriages. Courage is the path- I choose how I want to move anyway. Chasing stability and financial security and how when you're fighting for survival you just do the next best thing to survive. How New Yorkers used to malign Queens and Staten Island. How she survived and thrived after workplace manipulation and racism. There are so many spoken and unspoken rules and labels, and the power of creating our own thing. Subtle and practical ways in which she was guided to embrace being a Shaman, meeting the panther. How most indigenous cultures practice similar ceremonies and dances and the reflection of oneness and the honoring of the specific medicine and its survival. Exploring She of a thousand names and the Father, Mother and Son rather than the Father, son and the Holy Spirit. Shama geeks out on migration patterns in history and how over 60% of the people in the US are German descendants and how the media was skewed to serve the majority. Sharing the ancestral patterns that needed to be healed in order to be who she is today and the experience of reparenting with a father who is healing. Plant medicine- the call, the guidance to do it or not and how it can serve. In this fast paced teaching recorded at the New York Open Center, Professor Thurman introduces the Buddha's teachings through an exploration of Buddhist Mandalas and their counterparts across history and in Western culture. Opening with an overview of the architecture used in the design of Buddhist Tantric mandalas Robert Thurman uses personal stories, popular culture and world history to demystify the intricate tools of inner and outer transformation they contain. "Mandala is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning "sacred circle that protects the soul." It also refers to the sacred cosmograms that serve as core symbols of all cultures. Westerners have been fascinated for centuries about the mandalas of the Hindu-Buddhist cultures of Asia, most often painted geometric diagrams of great beauty and sophistication, that draw the viewer into a realm of balance, harmony, and calm. But such diagrams are actually architectural blueprints of the purified realm of bliss that we can only realize through enlightenment. They represent three-dimensional spaces of personal and communal exaltation, palaces for the regal confidence of love, compassion, and universal satisfaction of self and other. Understanding their role in anchoring the world-picture of a culture or a person provides a new insight into the "mandalas" of our own culture – the national space anchored by the Washington monument and its environs, or the personal cosmological space anchored by the models of the solar system, the DNA double-helix molecule, and the atom." -Robert A.F. Thurman This episode is an excerpt from "World Mandala" by Robert A.F. Thurman, Available via www.betterlisten.com.
