She is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals and Les Dames d'Escoffier.   NANCIE'S LINKS: Website Facebook YouTube Substack Instagram Threads Twitter LinkedIn Virginia Brock's Georgia-Style Brunswick Stew Ingredients 3½ lbs boneless pork, Boston butt, shoulder, or country-style ribs 2-3 Tbsp vegetable oil 2 lbs ground beef  1 lb ground turkey  1 can (28-oz) whole peeled plum tomatoes, with juice 1 can (28-oz) chopped tomatoes, with juice 1 bottle (20-oz) hickory-smoked barbecue sauce  1 can (14.5 oz) cream-style corn  1 can (14.5 oz) whole-kernel corn, or 1½ cups frozen corn 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce  1 Tbsp hot sauce, like Tabasco or Texas Pete  1 Tbsp black pepper  2 tsp salt  2 cans (15-oz) sweet peas like LeSeur, drained Directions Cut pork in chunks, place in large stockpot or Dutch oven, and add watrr to cover. Over high heat, bring to a boil and cook, skimming off foam as it rises, for 20 minutes. Lower heat to maintain a gentle simmer, and cook until pork is tender enough to pull apart with two forks, 2-3 hours.  Transfer pork to a large bowl or platter, reserving stock for stew. Allow to cool to room temperature; then pull apart and roughly chop into small pieces.  Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil, swirling to coat pan. Crumble in ground beef and ground turkey and cook, turning and pressing to help cook evenly. When meat is cooked through, remove from heat and set aside.  Combine cooked pork, beef, and turkey in a stockpot or large Dutch oven. Add 2 cups pork stock, reserving remaining stock to use if needed.  Add tomatoes with juice, barbecue sauce, cream-style and whole-kernel corn, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, pepper, and salt. Bring to a lively boil over medium-high heat, stirring often.  Lower heat to maintain a gentle but visible simmer, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Stir and scrape bottom often to avoid stew sticking or burning. Add more pork stock, if stew becomes dry or starts to stick. (Use chicken broth or water if stock is gone).  When stew is ready, gently stir in the drained peas. Cook 5 minutes more and serve hot in bowls, with saltine crackers.   Women Beyond a Certain Age is an award-winning weekly podcast with Denise Vivaldo. Stoops then attempts to urge Kentucky football fans to help out the program by donating to lure more talent onto the team. Is this a strategy more programs should employ, or is the request a bit tone deaf coming from a coach who is making $8 million a year?Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is looking to secure a new contract after taking a pay reduction in 2020. The guys debate whether or not Harbaugh should get the market value top coach contract.#8 ranked Oregon and #7 ranked Washington headline this weekend's slate of games. Hundreds of class actions lawsuits get filed each year against food and beverage CPG companies. While many of those legal complaints would be classified as reasonable, I want to take this in a totally different direction. I want to run down my top 3 weirdest lawsuits filed against food and beverage CPG companies over the last few years. Coming in at number three, Kellogg's was sued because their Strawberry Pop-Tarts didn't contain enough strawberries inside. Coming in at number two, Tootsie Roll was sued because its unfair to the candy marketplace they use sugar and trans-fat. But my number one spot goes to Texas Pete being sued because the hot sauce is made in North Carolina, not Texas. We're currently taking a break for some summer travel.  We'll be back with new episodes starting on July 19, 2023.   This episode originally aired on January 25, 2023.   Merriam-Webster defines story as: 1) an account of incidents or events and 2) a statement regarding the facts pertinent to a situation in question.  Storytelling is a very powerful part of the human experience and a key tool used throughout human history.   It provides a level of familiarity and when done well, it conveys information in a way that resonates with all involved.   During a recent episode, guest Stephen Marshall said “Story is the glue for new facts and information.”  How does story apply to brands?  What does effective storytelling do for a brand?  How can brands ensure they are authentic?   On this week's episode of the 33 Tangents Podcast, Jim and Jason are joined by two special guests to discuss brands and storytelling.  The first is returning guest Stephen Marshall, the CMO of the East Tennessee State University's Research Corporation whose purpose is building academic/industry partnerships.  The second is first time guest Chase Friedman of Vanquish Media Group.   Chase Friedman is the Founder & CEO of Vanquish Media Group, a digital marketing collective specializing in brand strategy, development, and marketing for entertainment for brands and storytellers.  VMG has managed more than 100 brand, film and television, and integrated digital campaigns across multiple distribution windows and platforms.   Stephen Marshall, Ph.D. is an award-winning media professor, (digital) marketer/brand consultant, and higher education administrator. Stephen's consulting brand portfolio includes work for Siren Marine/Yamaha, Adobe, Nielsen, Coca-Cola, Texas Pete, BoxDrop, Tennessee Hills Distillery, and various other for-profits and nonprofits. A former academic department chair, Stephen is currently the CMO for the ETSU Research Corporation focused on building academic/industry partnerships.   Where to find Chase LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/chase-friedman-438b2826/) Vanquish Media Group (https://vanquishmediagroup.com/) BrandStorytelling (http://www.brandstorytelling.tv)   Where to find Stephen. My dear friend, that I affectionately call "Texas Pete" when talking about him to my wife, joins me again this week, not for an encore episode of "Weird West Texas", that you may know him from, but this time he has a message... I asked Pete a couple months ago in an email if he had one thing that he'd like to share with the world, what would it be? Well, he ruminated on that for a minute, and here it is. I had intended to make this a Sunday Musings episode, but I want to make sure that it reached as many people as possible.
