As a mental fitness coach now, she told us how she worked through intergenerational trauma and built self-confidence.Healing from intergenerational trauma and unresolved grief was not a straightforward process. It required facing difficult emotions, sitting with discomfort, and allowing ourselves to grieve and work through the pain. Amy believed that the key to navigating intergenerational trauma and healing relationships with immigrant parents was to develop empathy, compassion, and a willingness to have open and honest conversations. By trying to understand the stories, experiences, and perspectives of both ourselves and our parents, we could start to untangle the layers of unfinished business and build deeper connections based on love, acceptance, and mutual respect.Throughout the conversation, Amy and I explored topics like unresolved grief and the emotional process of self-discovery. When material things and wealth do not become the most important thing in a person's life, but rather the need to help other people, even if just for a few months, is very commendable. Amy and her husband were living comfortably in a NYC apartment but decided to sell all of their belongings and buy a one-way ticket to Ghana to volunteer at a breast cancer non-profit facility.Covid came along and they ended up being stuck in Ghana for 7 months. Many people made comments such as, "That must have sucked!" I wasn't surprised to hear Amy say, "It didn't suck at all." In fact it was an experience they will treasure for a long time.Occasionally, I hear derogatory comments about countries from people who have never been there or understand their culture. To me, that is just wrong. This is why travel is so important and educational.Amy is a "Life Transformation & Mental Fitness Coach", and being a Digital Nomad, she is able to help people everywhere, wherever she is in the World. In this episode, I had the honor of interviewing Amy Yip, a transformation life coach focused on helping Asian American women become the author of their own lives and empower them to let go of "shoulds" & confidently own their worth. After 16+ years of corporate life, most recently at Google, she found the narrative that she wanted to write for herself and followed that path. In 2020, she took a bold action and left the corporate world and is currently coaching remarkable women whilst volunteering and traveling around the world with her husband. I absolutely love Amy's authenticity in this episode as we dived into vulnerable conversations about fertility, quitting a corporate job, redefining success while unraveling our identity as an Asian American woman in the midst of cultural clashes, exploring femininity and overcoming challenges in interracial relationship. Tune into this episode as Amy shares with us invaluable and practical tips on how to get in touch with your needs, tap into your emotions and work with the stories in our head to connect compassionately with ourselves, our needs & desires and our partners. In January, Amy Yip left her job at Google, sold everything in her New York apartment, and took a 1-way flight out to Ghana with her husband to volunteer at a breast cancer non-profit. The plan was to volunteer until May then start traveling around the world. Clearly COVID had different plans for them. Amy is still in Ghana now and embracing the gift in all of this: the time to focus on her area of passion: inspiring and empowering more women to let go of their 'should's' and write the narrative they want to tell about the rest of their life.
