John Young enjoyed the longest career of any astronaut thus far. Over the course of 42 years of active NASA service he made six space flights and is the only person to have piloted, and been commander of, four different classes of spacecraft: Gemini, the Apollo Command/Service Module, the Apollo Lunar Module, and the Space Shuttle.

 KATHERINE JOHNSON WAS A BLACK AMERICAN American mathematician AND SCIENTIST. HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO NASA HELPED GET THE USA INTO OUTER SPACE. SEE WHAT WIKEPEDIA HAS TO SAY: Creola Katherine Johnson (née Coleman; August 26, 1918 – February 24, 2020) was an American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. crewed spaceflights.[1] During her 35-year career at NASA and its predecessor, she earned a reputation for mastering complex manual calculations and helped pioneer the use of computers to perform the tasks. The space agency noted her "historical role as one of the first African-American women to work as a NASA scientist".[2] Johnson's work included calculating trajectories, launch windows, and emergency return paths for Project Mercury spaceflights, including those for astronauts Alan Shepard, the first American in space, and John Glenn, the first American in orbit, and rendezvous paths for the Apollo Lunar Module and command module on flights to the Moon. Her calculations were also essential to the beginning of the Space Shuttle program, and she worked on plans for a mission to Mars. In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 2016, she was presented with the Silver Snoopy Award by NASA astronaut Leland D. Ken Johnston, Sr, was one of 4 Civilian Astronaut Consultant Pilots from the Apollo Moon Program, is a retired aerospace engineer, former active duty US Marine, and “NASA Whistle Blower.” He refused to strictly follow orders and destroy a nearly-complete collection of 8? x 10? glossy photo-prints from the Apollo program. These photos are not available from NASA at this time and are of a higher resolution than what is found on-line. Johnston was born at Fort Sam Houston US Army Air Corps Base in San Antonio, TX. in 1942.Johnston was hired by Grumman Aircraft Corp. because of his training as a pilot with an avionics background for the Apollo Lunar Module testing. His duty was to assist with cockpit and instrument development and Astronaut training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.Ken later worked at the Lunar Receiving Laboratory, where all the moon rocks were stored, cataloged and in some cases, distributed to scientists from around the world. July 20 marks the 50th anniversary of man’s first steps on the moon. This writer, as well as millions of other television viewers, watched with rapt attention on Sunday afternoon, July 20, 1969 as Neil Armstrong climbed carefully down the ladder from the Apollo Lunar Module and was the first human to put his foot on the moon saying, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Many Americans, even those who objected to the price tag, felt proud of the accomplishment, especially since the Soviet Union had previously launched Sputnik (replica shown) into orbit, making it the Earth’s first man-made satellite in October of 1957 and beating the American effort into space. Today is the 50th anniversary of the launch of the spaceflight Apollo 11 that landed humans on the moon 4 days later. Apollo 11 was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA, on July 16, 1969 and was the fifth crewed mission of NASA's Apollo programme. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin, landed the Apollo Lunar Module, Eagle, on July 20, 1969. Buzz Aldrin is an American engineer and a former astronaut and fighter pilot. As the Apollo Lunar Module pilot on the Apollo 11 mission, he and mission commander Neil Armstrong were the first two humans to land on the Moon.

Since the lunar module would fly only in space (earth orbit and lunar vicinity), the designers could ignore the aerodynamic streamlining demanded by earth’s atmosphere and build the first true manned spacecraft, designed solely for operating in the spatial vacuum.

The Lunar Lander originally had two docking hatches, one at the top center of the cabin and another in the forward position, or nose, of the vehicle, with a tunnel in each location to permit astronauts to crawl from one pressurized vehicle to the other…

At various stages of lunar module design, mockup reviews were conducted to demonstrate progress and identify weaknesses. These inspections were formal occasions, with a board composed of NASA and contractor officials and presided over by a chairman from the Apollo office in Houston.

Ken became a pilot in the US MARINES in 1962 and took his Honorable Discharged in 1966.  He joined 3 other pilots working on the Apollo Lunar Module at NASA Houston, Texas where he logged over 3,000 hours as a test pilot of the LM.  In addition to testing the LM they helped train the NASA Astronauts how to fly it and land on the Moon. After Apollo 11 landed, Ken went to work at the Lunar Receiving Laboratory as the Director of the Data and Photo Control Department which gave him access to all the original photos taken on the moon missions.  During all this time, Ken continued his education and received 3 BS Degrees and 2 Doctorate Degrees. Theresa also known as TJ Morris dba ACIR is an American who has had Close Encounters her entire life..TJ has since changed how she believes in extraterrestrials based on UFO Sightings and ET Encounters and is now sharing her story with those who join her in her TJ Morris ACO Social Service Club. Alien UFO Story by TJ. Tonight our guest is Dr. R. Ken Johnston, a retired aerospace engineer who has been called a NASA whistle-blower because he decided to save, rather than destroy, some perfectly good glossies from the Apollo program. Ken Johnston, Sr. one of 4 Civilian Astronaut Consultant Pilots from the Apollo Moon Program, is a retired aerospace engineer, US Marine, and “NASA Whistleblower.” He refused to strictly follow orders and destroy a nearly-complete collection of 8″ x 10″ glossy photo-prints from the Apollo program, photos that are not available from NASA at this time and are of a higher resolution than what is found online. Johnston was born Fort Sam Houston US Army Air Base in San Antonio, TX. 1942, and studied at Oklahoma City University. Ken Johnston worked as a contractor from 1969 to 1972, during the Apollo Program, and he was employed by Brown & Root, principal contractors to NASA for management of the Lunar Receiving Laboratory, where all the moon rocks were stored, curated, cataloged and, in some cases, distributed to scientists who had successfully applied to carry out analysis in their own labs. An important part of Johnston‘s duty was to package and ship lunar samples to science labs, together with photographs documenting their exact location and orientation in situ. As such, he had in his office several sets of photographs taken by Apollo astronauts with their chest-mounted Hasselblad cameras. When the moon rock distribution wound down, he was instructed by Bud Laskawa, his boss, to destroy what remained of the photo archive, but Johnston kept one set as a personal collection for a work portfolio. Johnston applied to NASA for the 1977 astronaut selection for duty as a Space Shuttle astronaut, but was turned down because NASA wanted the astronauts to be PhD level scientists. The ideal astronaut was no longer a jet-jock, but men with scientific accreditation. Johnston applied when NASA was recruiting again, Johnston says he was considered too old. He did, however, join NASA’s educational outreach program as a “Solar System Ambassador” traveling and speaking to civic and youth groups about space exploration and careers in engineering and science. Ken Johnston spent 23 years at NASA working with numerous space programs as well as the astronauts who manned those missions. He was one of the five original pilots who tested all of the Apollo equipment including the lunar module which later carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. He is familiar with the processes of checks and balances used within NASA to secure the safety of a mission.” ?
