Day 5 of the NBL Free Agency Fix takes us to the heart of Tasmania, as Josh is joined by JD from the Tasmanian Takeover for an in-depth look at the reigning champions, the Tasmania JackJumpers. It's a full breakdown of the rollercoaster NBL25 season—from the highs of their early dominance to the heartbreak of missing the finals by percentage. JD gives us a unique, community-rooted perspective on what it really means to be a JackJumper, the pride of representing Tasmania, and how this franchise continues to punch above its weight in a big-market league. The duo unpack the roster in detail: who's locked in, who's likely to leave, and which uncontracted players could still make their way back to the Apple Isle. They dive deep into the controversial Craig Sword/Ian Hummer mid-season swap, the string of brutal injuries, and the cultural expectations that make the JackJumpers one of the most unique teams in the NBL.Plus:JD's thoughts on the club's captaincy going forwardHis two picks to return out of the uncontracted groupThe identity shift toward youth and athleticismA surprise name from US college hoops with Tassie ties

Dominic Gaetani is a senior associate from DKO Architecture, who as a Tasmanian-born architect, left the sleepy Apple Isle more than 10 years ago to pursue his dream of shaping Melbourne's skyline. One of those is the old Prison Pentridge in Coburg, an Australian landmark established in 1851, that has housed some of Australia's most notorious criminals including Ned Kelly, Squizzy Taylor, Mark ‘Chopper' Read and Julian Knight. It was closed in 1997.DKO Architecture recently won a design competition for its initial masterplan and design strategy for the southern portion of the historic Pentridge Village precinct in Coburg in Melbourne's north.  Appointed by developer Salvo following a multi-stage pitch process, DKO has outlined a preliminary vision to revitalise the 19,000m2 site into a $1.2 billion mixed use redevelopment featuring a highly activated public realm, community spaces and integrated retail amenity that reflect the rich history of the site and Coburg character, along with reimagined multi-residential spaces. In this exclusive interview, Gaetani outlines how he overcame the unique challenges in master planning such an iconic site, and what cultural legacies he believes this project will leave the city of Melbourne. This podcast is brought to you in association with AWS,  proud sponsors of our 2024 Residential series of podcasts.

The captain has had it rough of late and copped his share of heat but let's not forget how good he actually is. Never a better time to respond than when you're entering the Lion's den. Time to Restump Podcast preview Saturday's rumble in the Brisbane jungle. There is a lot of Docker disappointment and disenchantment around and for a season full of, so far, failed expectations, it is understandable. However, sometimes you need the almost impossible challenge to snap you out of the trance. There is arguably no bigger challenge right now than meeting the current Lions on their home Gabba deck. It is a ridiculously tough task any time but, at the moment, when the Brissie boys have gone all in over the last three weeks, clicked up a gear and set their season up… it's an even scarier proposition. Add to that that we're just 4 wins from 15 attempts at the Gabba… holy Christmas! We welcome back the vitally important Switta who should add some much needed speed and bite while the Disco has been asked to join in and bring his dance moves. Freddy is out for a month with the quad injury and Corey Wagner has been given a spell in the twos. The milestone men, Jimmy Aish and Jaegar O'Meara, each play their 150th. And coincidently they both play it at their third club and in the state they both started their careers in. If you listened to their press conference today you kind of got the feeling Jaegar is about to release the shackles.    As far as the game goes, who stops Charlie Cameron? Can we at least curtail our former man, Lachie Neale? Recent dog Josh Dunkley is a handful, Joe Daniher is in decent nick, Jack Gunston can get under or over your guard and while Cam Rayner has been in the system a while now, he's starting to show why he went at pick number one in 2017. We could go on and on because on paper the Lions have heat on every line. No shortage of happenings, the Dees are going hard to get pick one, Jacob Weitering coughed up a few bucks, Tassie looks like they're getting a Stratco shed and the Sicilian might just get a Sicilian welcome next time he ventures to the Apple Isle. Plenty going on, except panic. There's no panicking going on, the panic button has not been pressed! So, all that in further detail and a $750 million dollar Tassie shedload more in this 45 minutes. It's been a negative week but we're at that point of the cycle where we're moving into hope and optimism. If you're keen to throw away some valuable minutes of your life…. you couldn't do much worse than listening to this nonsense.  Support the show

On the back of Scott's recent trip to Tasmania for a friend's 40th birthday, we devote this episode to golf in and around Hobart, focusing on five main courses. Scott's sojourn to the Apple Isle began with a mid-construction walk around the site of 7 Mile Beach, the chat about which forms the early portion of this podcast. He was fortunate to play Royal Hobart, Tasmania GG, Elderslie, and Ratho while down in Tassie – and chats about each course. A few brief diversions from the script see discussion about Lord Howe Island and the four Australian golf courses at the extreme reaches of the cardinal compass points. We touch on Dover GC and another three Scott wishes he saw while in Hobart – Huon Valley, Kingston Beach and Llanherne. Scott compares and contrasts Royal Hobart and Tasmania, and also speaks of the refreshing fun playing more understated golf during the trip. The boys will venture back to their usual fare in upcoming episodes, focusing on one of the more keenly anticipated courses to be discussed next! We have to make some changes.” -Andrew GriffithsClick To TweetTranscript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast) Tom Poland 00:10 Greetings, everyone, and a very warm welcome to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. My name is Tom Poland joined today by Andrew Griffiths. Andrew, good day! Sir, a very warm welcome. Great to have another Aussie on the show. Whereabouts do you base? Andrew Griffiths 00:22 Good morning, Tom. I'm in Hobart, of all places! Beautiful, snow on the mountain. Tom Poland 00:28 Oh, Gorgeous! That's the New Zealand of Australia, I've been told. Andrew Griffiths 00:34 Exactly! Tom Poland 90:35 That beautiful clean and green. So for those of you who don't know, Hobart is the capital, I think, on Tasmania, which is a little island, “The Apple Isle” we call it here in Australia, just off the southeast coast of Australia. Andrew is Australia's #1 small business author. Now, you see that on some people's bios, but Andrew actually is. His books- Andrew, I used to go into Andrews and Gardner, I was flying out of the airport or something and I'd see your books on the bookshelves. I mean, a lineup of your books for sale in retail outlets. And I used to be so damn jealous and wonder why mine was selling in the 10s. And I don't mean 10s of 1000s. I mean 10s. And yours were lined up there. So he really is Australia's #1 small business author, and has been, has held that mantle for many, many years. He's got 14 best-selling books sold in over 65 countries! So, Andrew delighted to have you on the show. And folks, you don't know this, but we've- Andrew and I have spent about the last, I think, 17 minutes trading war stories and casting ideas. We thought we'd better get this interview done. So he's a terrific guy to have a chat with. As he says he can talk through the bottom of wet cement. So just was gonna I could- The title today, get on with it, Tom, is, “How to Be the Most Expensive at What You Do”. And I love the idea behind that! Andrew, our seven minutes start now. Sir, question number one, who is your ideal client? Andrew Griffiths 01:57 Well, Tom, thank you for this. My ideal clients are business owners, of course, who are passionate about what it is they do. They're good at what they do. They work hard. They do all the right things. And they've probably been doing it for a really, really long time, but they simply don't charge enough for what it is they do. They know there's got to be a better way, but they just don't know where to start. Tom Poland 02:20 Especially if you're aware. Are they aware that they're not charging enough? Or is this kind of a revelation to them when you mentioned it? Andrew Griffiths 02:26 Great question! They're aware that they know that they don't charge enough. Yeah, because it's the first thing I tend to bring up and go, “Well, you know, you're too cheap.” “I know. I know! We hear that all the time.” Tom Poland 02:36 Oh, they do. Okay, cool! Andrew Griffiths 02:37 They do. Surprising, isn't it? Tom Poland 02:39 So they probably- question number two, six minutes left, what's the problem you solve? Andrew Griffiths 02:43 Well, for people who undercharge for their products and their services, things like that, I think they get stuck in this loop of limiting belief. Deep down, it could be, “I'm not good enough”, “Why would anyone want to pay for, you know, that much for my stuff”. “My competitors are better than me, etc.” But at the same time, they might have limiting beliefs around their customers in their market. People can't afford to pay more than the market's type, super competitive, so we've got to be cheaper, etc. So typically, for me, what I do is I cut away all that limiting negative self-talk and limiting belief that keeps people held in that undercharging. I help them to really see what value they bring to the table. And then how to communicate this value to their customers and show the business owner how to charge accordingly. Tom Poland 03:27 Perfect! Thank you, sir. Five and a half minutes left. Question number three, what are some of the typical symptoms? So someone listening to this, a business owner, thinking “Yeah, we're probably undercharging”. What's going on in their business that would give them a heads up that they probably are undercharging? Andrew Griffiths 03:40 There are a few things I think, and I've noticed this from working for many years, over 20 years with businesses around the world in this space. These are common kinds of symptoms. Number one, people are working really hard, but they don't actually have a lot to show for it. They haven't really built up a lot of valuable assets, etc. They're burned out, fried, and exhausted because they're working so hard and they're fried, but they're in that loop. They discount too fast. Someone will say something and they'll offer a discount before- you know, they don't need to win every job that they quote for. And people say to me, “Oh, we get every job we quote for” and I go, “Oh, that's a shame.” You pour in because they think it's a badge of honor! To me, you're too cheap. You get five out of 10 of the jobs you quote for tells me your pricing is about right. Tom Poland 04:25 Interesting. Andrew Griffiths 04:26 They have a lot of limiting talk. You know, why they- “Oh, we can't charge more.” That conversation comes up. And also they've often become quite comfortable with where they're at. It's a term called “learned helplessness”, which is not a nice phrase, but we get comfortable with the struggle. It's become a part of their identity. Tom Poland 04:41 Right. The battle, ouch. Okay, so thank you for that. Very, very articulated. Four minutes left and question four. We're talking about smart people. They're gonna try stuff. They're getting sick of being, kind of like, the hamster on the treadmill sort of thing. So what are some of the common mistakes that these business owners are making before they find your solution? Andrew Griffiths 04:59 Well, there are a few things. A common mistake is, the easiest way to describe it is if I say you can't put lipstick on a wombat. And if you're not from Australia, and you don't know what a wombat is, you might want to Google it. Okay. But all I'm saying here is, you can't just triple your prices today and then still offer exactly the same product or services. We have to make some changes. So, yes, you can make some incremental changes. But I think that if you- this is a state of mind. So we have to change our self-talk. We have to change our story. We have to train our people. We have to retrain our customers. And we have to identify the real value of what it is that we offer. And at the same time, we have to lose things, alright? Because of the business that you were that undercharged and all the rest, you've probably attracted cheap customers. Cheap customers attract cheap customers. But we don't want them anymore, right? So we've got to lose a few things. You might have a few meddlers, a few of them. Maybe some of your team members are caught in this, you know, check-check-check mindset or discount-discount-discount mindset. They may not make the transition. So this is scary for a lot of people who are comfortable in their own state of thinking. Change is hard. A lot of people get cold feet. And then the minute they start to lose a few customers, they freak out and start dropping the prices back to the way they were. That's it. You got to push through that though. Tom Poland 06:14 Reverting to type. Thank you, sir. Two and a half minutes left. Excellent stuff. Question number five, one top tip, kind of like a valuable free action someone could take. Won't solve the whole problem, but it might step them down the road in the right direction? Andrew Griffiths 06:26 Right. So for me, find a business you personally buy from. You know them really well that you would use this line. They're expensive, but they're the best. Okay, look at everything that business does and learn from them. We need- what I call like “solid role models”, Tom. They're businesses that charge what they're worth that we can actually learn from. I think we spent too much time sometimes looking inwards at our own business when I think we can actually learn from others. So I've got these role-model businesses that helped me adjust my mentality towards what it is that I charge. And I think that's a great place to start. Tom Poland 07:00 Perfect! Thank you, sir. One minute and 45 seconds left. Question number six, one valuable free resource, and I know you got a doozy here. So where can people go to find out more about this? Andrew Griffiths 07:11 So I've got a master class that I did recently called, “Are You Really Charging What You're Worth?” Now, this was a paid master class. It was $1,000. It's about three hours. It's long masterclasses, which says, I can talk a lot, but it runs through the whole concept of value, getting immediate wins, things you can do now, a longer-term strategy, etc. And I'm really, really happy to offer that to your listeners today for free. We've got a link, you know, it's a long kind of a link but it goes like, .com.au/masterclass. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You'll share the link, mate. Tom Poland 07:45 We will! Andrewgriffiths, it's G-R-I, double F, I-T-H-S .com.au. And if you go there and go to masterclass-recording-are, dashes just continue, Are You Really Charging What You're Worth, then you'll find it! Or just go to the website, pop it in and you'll get an error, but it'll give you the link or go into this video. Thanks. We've got 30 seconds left. Andrew, question number seven, what's the one question I should have asked you but didn't? Andrew Griffiths 08:13 Okay, that's a great question! So Tom, what changes in a business when it transforms from being the cheapest to be the most expensive? Tom Poland 08:21 Ooh, 15 seconds. What does change? Andrew Griffiths 08:23 Everything changes. Your level of worth, your sense of satisfaction, the people you attract as customers, the people you attract to work with you. Your business becomes more financially resilient, and you get to do more of the things that matter. Tom, with families supporting not-for-profits traveling- Tom Poland 08:37 Beautiful! Andrew Griffiths 08:38 And we are done! Tom Poland 08:39 Thanks, Andrew. Perfect. Cheers! Tom Poland 08:42 Thanks for checking out our Marketing The Invisible podcast. The Purple Apostles beat the Saints in God's Country and then we need a Hail Mary so we pray for a Miracle. It's the Restump Podcast preview of the vital clash against the Saints. Well, we've been given more than our fair share of lifelines this year and fortunately we made the most of the recent one last week against the Eagles. It all now comes down to this Sunday, so all we can do is win and then it's all up to the universe. Our part of the equation isn't exactly a walk in the park because we're 2 wins and 11 losses down in the Apple Isle. To make matters worse we haven't played in Hobart! However, against the Saints in Tassie we've played twice and its one win all and both games were 1-point margins! It can't get much tighter than that! With the inclusion of future Captain Andy Brayshaw, our chances get a boost, and a double bonus considering the Saints suffered Max outage with King heading to the side-lines.The Saint's Jack Steele is in phenomenal form, so curtailing his influence will go a long way to securing the points keeping our faint finals hopes alive. Few if any have been able to stop the Man of Steel this year but he hasn't come up against a Serong yet!Jojo, yet again down in the south west swanning about the wineries, touches on a little bit of contract chatter while apparently there's something about the Conca Truck's demise and departure that just isn't cricket, according to the Chief. He's launching a new “What's the Grease Reece” campaign to get the skinny on the situation. Although it may have to wait a year or so! It's been an understandable fluctuating year but we're in a very good space. Regardless of the result on Sunday, a fiercely fought contest against the Sainters will be a highly encouraging way to end the year, should we fail to advance into September action. If the Saints knock us over on Sunday remember there are always silver linings. In that instance look at the positives…. at least this will be the final Restump Podcast Preview noise polluting the airways in 2021. As always, if you have nothing better to do like listening to paint dry, click play and have your say. We're open to any and all feedback.

The Restump Podcast

Before we start…. Thanks North Melbourne! In this Restump Podcast episode we review Freo's dismantling of the Hawks as we watched on with a bowl of cornflakes in another AM starting game for us fans! It wasn't the prettiest of contests but even the ugly games need some love and what wasn't to love about our duck breaking victory against the Hawks in the Apple Isle? God's country indeed! Fyfe turned it on in his 200th and Caleb Serong showed he is a contested ball winning machine, years ahead of his time. However, they were both upstaged by the giant killing ruckman, Sean “Swaggy O” Darcy. We checked Champion Data and its official…. Darcy is now a juggernaut. We have to be honest and realise the Hawks are a shell of their former selves, but you can only destroy who you're up against. Darcy, Mundy, Fyfe, Serong, Brayshaw and Cerra destroyed who they were up against.Rory Lobb exploited his height and weight advantage over Kyle Hartigan and kicked a career equalling high 4 goals, while the forgotten man Bailey “Cerra To Some” Banfield kicked 3 of his own in his return. Sammy Switkowski showed how valuable he's going to be with his 14 touches and 2 goals and he's also doing his team oriented best work supporting Sonny Walters by dishing a further goal off to him. The man with an array of cyclonic or meteorologist nicknames, Josh Treacy, or Sean Treacy according to Gerard Healy, was close to having a day out. He booted 2 but if it weren't for a coat of paint, he would have landed 3 and possibly 4. And that's not mentioning his 6 bone crushing tackles. While we haven't emphatically forced our way into the top eight, the universe has delivered a host of ridiculously amazing results presenting us with the most unlikely of opportunities. It's now up to us to take it.So, with our fate once again in our own hands, we now look towards the Thursday night big stage because the rest of our season starts then. Until Thursday's game if you're looking for something too drown out the noise of the rain, click play and listen to this 50 plus minutes of purple storm..... after you've listened to the “Join in the chorus” North Melbourne theme song a boat load of times!
