Can we have it all? Can we balance a meaningful career, live our purpose, have a family, maintain quality relationships, live in good health and really thrive while doing so in an ever-changing world? That's a tall order and the 3 authors of the new book “Rebalance: How women lead, parent, partner ... and thrive” explore how they really are thriving while enjoying this cocktail of demands and accomplishments. A documentary with Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, missionjoy.com The Joy of Small Things by Hannah Jane Parkinson Finding Futures, emily@findingfutures.org How Emily became a Talent Discovery Specialist and Coach: "After I received my Master's degree in Occupational Therapy, I began working in adult day habilitation programs. These programs provide therapy and activities for adults diagnosed with intellectual and physical disabilities. I fell in love with the clients I worked with. There was something special and unique about each person I met. The people I worked with helped me realize that what I really wanted to be doing was shining the light on the talents and gifts within every human being. I wanted ALL people to be truly valued for their contributions and to find their place in society. This clarity led me to apply for the LEND fellowship program in which I was accepted in 2016. I spent my fellowship developing my vision and simple philosophy that when we look for and focus on who a person naturally is from the time they are a child and encourage them to be that, then pathways for the person to express this and contribute this to their communities will open up. From this vision, I created my life's work and founded Finding Futures." These days we are overwhelmed by an influx of political, climate, economic and social concerns in this decade of disruption. Let's talk about the value of taking care of ourselves so we can care for others, achieve our goals and thrive in life. It's easier said than done. Studies show that self-compassion is linked to a high level of success. And when we say success, we mean accomplishment in your life and in work. Success is achieving goals that lead to wellbeing and satisfaction. Self-compassion is the opposite of self-criticism. One of the evidence-based exercises we share in our Reset Program and Positivity Challenge is as simple as connecting with a good friend. This is proven to enhance your wellbeing and resilience. Self-compassion is just learning to be that same supportive friend to yourself. Treat yourself with unconditional love and positive support. Atlantic Brugman just completed an Olympic campaign in sailing to represent Team USA at the 2020 Olympics with her sister Nora. The final trials were in 2021, after her journey to the Olympics was interrupted by Covid-19 in 2020. Series 2 focuses on Careers & Navigating your Professional success. Atlantic grew up in Barcelona, Spain where she learned how to sail at age 4. As a junior sailor, she competed year round and attended World and European Championships. Sailing quickly became her whole life, and it defined many of her future life decisions. After High School, Atlantic studied in the UK to obtain her Ocean Yacht Master License the only woman among a majority of older white men. She went on to attend Connecticut College and sailed for their highly compeititve Sailing team. After college, Atlantic pursued a career in non-profit work for a few years until she was offered a coaching position for the Stanford University sailing team. Coaching at Stanford reminded Atlantic of her passion for sailing, and realized she wanted to return to compete in the sport. She decided to throw herself onto the difficult path of competing at the highest level of sailing - the Olympic Circuit. When the pandemic hit, her Olympic journey became even more difficult, but it made she and her sister stronger and more dedicated to the goal. Now, at age 31, she finds herself having to start a new career from scratch, and discovered she is passionate about interior design (with no professional experience whatsoever). However, Atlantic's experience in an Olympic pursuit gives her the strength and mindset to believe that with hard work anything is possible and she is now excited to throw herself into this next journey in life, a new profession, and giving it her all to make her next dream career possible. Marta is Founder & CEO APTO Skincare & The Ritualist. Marta is a former tennis professional, lived in 10 countries in 10 years, had a corporate career in beauty & fashion, and after becoming an entrepreneur, she became a mother of 2. I talk to Marta about how the pandemic impacted her mindset and her business and why she thinks beauty products can have such a huge impact on women's dignity and self-esteem and how her company is helping women in need. Marta spoke to me from a small town outside Barcelona where she has spent the second half of this pandemic, after spending the beginning of the pandemic stuck in the Dominican Republic for 90 days with her family and one suitcase she had shared with her 2 small children. This gives us all a new perspective on the power of minimalism and focusing on what we really need in life. Melina Spadone does it all as a single working mother of 3 boys. Her candidness and realism is much needed to inspire the women who are in similar situations. No sugar-coating, no false perfection here! The Covid-19 pandemic created a situation that was "Mission Impossible," but Melina persevered in maintaining her demanding career as a lawyer and leader in family offices (high net-worth families) as well the leader in her own home and maintaining home schooling, the demands of raising children in today's world, her own personal passions she continues to pursue regardless of the constraints on her time AND keeping herself going over the past 15 months. The Mental Load is a real struggle for women right now. We are joined by our friend Chris Thorpe to discuss Melina's career, juggling and mothering during the "she-cession." ~ Join the Monumental Me community and The Resilience Program at Monumentalme.com and follow us on Instagram @monumentalme.we ~
