Babai the Great, a significant figure in the early Church of the East (c. 551–628), is presented as a transformative leader who systematically defined its unique Christology and vigorously reformed its monastic practices. His work during a period of both external political strain and internal theological disputes was foundational, establishing key doctrinal and disciplinary frameworks for centuries. Babai's extensive writings, ecclesiastical leadership, and spiritual guidance profoundly shaped East Syrian Christianity, a legacy still recognized today. He notably integrated medical knowledge into theological discussions and developed contemplative reading practices within the monastic tradition. Shelmina Babai Abji, a best selling author and a renowned international public speaker, joins us today to talk about mentoring, working as a single mother, what makes a good leader, getting out of your comfort zone and reframing failure
"Truth and Love are wings that cannot be separated, for Truth cannot fly without Love, nor can Love soar aloft without Truth." (Saint Ephrem the Syrian) "Look at God within yourself, how 'God is Light.' For his Nature is a glorious, many-splendored Light. He manifests the Light of his Nature to those who love Him in all the worlds…" (John of Dalyatha, Syriac Mystic) "To be glorified art Thou, the Father Supreme, born of Thy First-born in the silence and tranquility of meditation." (Syriac Acts of Saint Thomas in India) "There is a silence of the tongue. There is a silence of the whole body. There is a silence of the soul. There is a silence of the mind, and there is a silence of the spirit." (Abraham of Nathpar) "Open your ears, and I shall speak to you. Give Me yourself, so that I may also give you Myself." (Odes, 9: 1-2) "What wonders has your love effected! When someone is still alive he has left this world: though his bodily condition remains with the world's bodily condition, yet his spirit has been raised up towards You, so that for a period of time he is where he knows not, being totally raptured and drawn towards You." (John of Apamea) Several scholars have made a convincing case that the Syriac mystics were a major influence upon early Sufism. And Sufism, as many know, has been an influence on the Sants of India. There is a demonstrable connection between East & West via several sources (Syriac mystics of the Church of the East in the Saint Thomas tradition, Mazdakism, Manichaeism and other schools of Gnosticism) and the Sant tradition of India. Sebastian Brock, Scholar of Eastern Christianity and Aramaic-Syriac Saints, has translated many wonderful texts of Eastern Saints such as Isaac of Nineveh, Abdusho (Joseph the Visionary), John of Dalyatha, Abraham of Nathpar, Martyrius, Babai, Philoxenus of Mabbug, Aphrahat, Ephrem, John of Apamea, Jacob of Sarug, and others, in great books such as, The Syriac Fathers on Prayer and the Spiritual Life, The Wisdom of St. Isaac of Nineveh, A Garland of Hymns from the Early Church (including Odes of Solomon), The Luminous Eye, and several others. "The text-book and pulpit notion that all Christendom is divided between Greek East and Latin West overlooks an ancient and still continuing third stream of tradition: Syriac Christianity. "Cut off from the rest of the Christian world by theological controversy in the fifth century, Arab conquest in the seventh and Mongol invasions in the thirteenth, Syrian Christians continues to celebrate the Christian mysteries, to meditate on Scripture and to apply its teachings to their lives. "Some of them, attempting to realise here on earth their baptismal potential to re-enter paradise, chose a life of asceticism and single-minded devotion to Christ. Their reflections created across the centuries a rich literature. Some passed into the byzantine tradition; some remained unknown to other Christians and have never until now been translated into a modern language. "These Syriac fathers offer the modern heirs of both Latin and Greek Christendom new, yet ancient and enduring insights on prayer and the spiritual life." She helps people reconnect to their natural wisdom and heal their relationships with their bodies and their shadows, so they can fall wildly in love with their lives, their planet, and each other. Sophia studied embodiment at Yale University, The Somatic School in London, and the Strozzi Institute. In this week's episode we covered:✨ Organic Intelligence as a somatic practice for trauma resolution, and also for thriving and enjoying your life✨ Sophia's Kundalini practice, and how it works with energy in the body and heals blocks, and again how it encourages embracing love and expressing creativity✨Sophia's journey of being very productivity and achievement focused with 3 jobs and bodily pain to shifting instead towards being present in the moment and feeling pleasure ✨Noticing the moment through the body, e.g. how fabric feels on your skin, stopping to smell the flowers and how that's possible even when you're in pain✨How Sophia's work supports people in letting themselves being loved, coming back to their body and back to the moment✨How energy vampirism shows up in relationships aka when we're giving out of obligation, we are in fact taking from people✨How people who are martyrs, are often terrible at receiving because it doesn't feel safe to receive✨The power of nature when it comes to healing those who worry about taking from others✨Why we need community for healingConnect with Sophia at instagram.com/sophia.babai or tinyurl.com/somatic-guidanceConnect with Caoilfhionn: https://www.caoinicc.com/about-me-invitation-to-1to1-coaching Instagram: @Caoilfhionn.nic.conmara Facebook: @CaoiniccJoin her mailing list and download her Free Great Sex Guide here: https://mailchi.mp/f30c2254bf30/greatsxguide

Rob and Dave are joined by Dr Ollie Thomson and one of his patients, Paul, who shares his experience of complex back pain and his journey to recovery. Following back surgery, Paul experienced chronic pain resulting in him seeing a number of different practitioners in his quest to successfully recover but as he explains in this fascinating episode it was working with, Dr Ollie Thomson, a professional who helped him to understand the mental aspect of his pain that changed his mind set and finally put him on the road to successful recovery. KEY TAKEAWAYS Persistent pain can become part of your identity and this is especially true of back pain Everything comes from your back and you think if your back is strong you are strong I was looking for a magic fix because I felt there was something fundamentally wrong As a professional, using movement to explore fears, beliefs and threats means you are in a better position to create positive new habits with the patient I needed to be in the right place to understand that I needed to work at it to successfully recover It felt like I had a team that made me accountable but also cared and thought I would get better Thinking about it differently and being focused is what got me out of the situation and a shift in my mindset played a huge part in my recovery You can be very low and feel considerable pain but you can come back from it It's a constellation of experiences and factors that create someone's pain experience and situation Overly medicalising back pain and giving it strong anatomical connotations makes people more fearful Trying to make sense of backpain through autonomy and structure can change how people behave It's about how practitioners communicate with patients to understand their pain experience It's vital to take the time to listen and speak with the patient, taking a therapeutic approach It's the role of the professional to guide patients to being able to self-manage their pain and their recovery themselves BEST MOMENTS ‘Providing positive explanations can help with looking at things from a different perspective ‘The mental aspect of having a back issue was really difficult to deal with ‘I was doing a lot of nothing because my belief was that my back was weak because of the pain' THE BACK PAIN PODCAST PROVIDER MAP - FINDING SOMEONE TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR BACK PAIN https://thebackpainpodcast.com/index.php/members-map/ VALUABLE RESOURCES Book to see Dr Oliver Thomson! Babai Ayaklanmasından Vakai Hayriyeye Bektaşilik | Tarihin Peşinde Bölüm 2 by Artı TV
1211'de Rum (Anadolu) Selçuklu Sultanı I. Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev'in ölümü üzerine oğulları I. İzzeddin Keykavus ve I. Alaaddin Keykubad arasındaki iktidar mücadelesi ülkenin toplumsal dokusuna ve ekonomik durumuna çok zarar vermişti. 1220'de I. Alaaddin Keykubat'ın tahta çıkmasıyla düzen sağlanmış görünüyordu ancak kötü günler yakındı.

Hány fűfajtát ismernek a pásztorok? Miért fél a többi mongol a darhatoktól? Eltart-e 80 millió állatot a mongol legelő? In this Episode, Sam speaks to Paul Babai who, in his early 30's was part of the sale of a large business to a private equity firm. The business was then sold on to a multi-national PLC. This gives Paul a great insight into often unknown worlds. Paul talks us through his rise in the business, starting from the bottom to getting equity and ultimately how it felt to sell that business. What really interesting is Paul's perspective on the how life changes within a business when private equity buy it and how friends perceive you when find out you've been successful financially. Mathematician Paul Erdős had no home, no job, and no hobbies. Instead, for 60 years he wandered the world, staying with each of hundreds of collaborators just long enough to finish a project, and then moving on. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll meet the "magician of Budapest," whose restless brilliance made him the most prolific mathematician of the 20th century. We'll also ponder Japanese cannibalism in World War II and puzzle over a senseless stabbing. Intro: Elbert Hubbard published 12 blank pages in 1905.
