Dr. Rachel Zoffness is a pain psychologist, neuroscientist, and author of Tell Me Where It Hurts -- and she's here to dismantle the biggest lie medicine has sold us: that pain is a purely biomedical problem requiring a purely biomedical solution. Dr. Rachel unpacks how trauma turns the nervous system into a pain megaphone, why the brain literally gets better at producing pain the longer it practices it, and why loneliness is as dangerous to your physical health as poor sleep or a bad diet. This one is for every woman who did the surgery, took the pills, and still woke up hurting. The roadmap exists. You just haven't been given it yet. A discectomy can feel like instant relief until the pain comes back, and the “small” hole in the disc turns into a repeat surgery, degeneration, and lost mobility. Joining the podcast is Greg Lambrecht, founder and executive director of Intrinsic Therapeutics, with host Geoff Pardo to unpack why recurrent lumbar disc herniation is still so common, what surgeons and patients often don't see downstream, and how his team built Barricaid to address the problem at its source: the annular defect. After a bit of a hiatus (life has a way of doing that), Tash and Damo are finally back together for a long-overdue catch-up. In this episode, they get real about what's been going on behind the scenes — Damo's recent surgery and a pretty scary complication with a partially collapsed lung, Tash navigating nine weeks post-op life, and all the big life stuff in between, including their dad returning home after four months in Fiji following the loss of their mum. They also dig into what Easter looks like when you're on a bariatric journey — the moderation debate, food plans, emotional eating, and why having a plan matters. It's honest, it's heartfelt, and it's so good to be back.

A Different Path: Prevention and Recovery at Core Health DarienAt Core Health Darien, we specialize in managing the complexities of Failed Back Surgery. We understand that the presence of scar tissue, structural changes, and nerve sensitivity requires a nuanced, non-invasive approach to restore function and reduce pain. However, our primary goal is to help patients avoid the operating table altogether."The most successful back surgery is the one that never has to happen."Why Choose Core Health Darien?Clinical Expertise: With over 35 years of experience, Dr. Brian McKay has seen the evolution of spinal care. He leverages decades of clinical knowledge to identify the root causes of pain that surgery might overlook.Prevention-First Philosophy: We focus on restorative therapies that stabilize the spine, decompress nerves, and improve biomechanics naturally. By addressing these issues early, we are often more effective at preventing surgery than we are at correcting a failed one.Tailored Care: Whether you are currently suffering from a failed procedure or have been told that surgery is your "only option," our team provides evidence-based alternatives designed to keep you mobile and pain-free without the risks of invasive intervention. If you are struggling with persistent back pain or considering a surgical recommendation, a second opinion focused on conservative care can make all the difference. What changed everything was a conversation with her sister-in-law (a PT) who encouraged her to approach surgery cautiously and trust the body's ability to heal. After booking a consultation with co-founder Cam and starting the Limitless Rehab Program, Bo finally had a clear, full-body plan. Within 100 days, her pain was gone and the nerve irritation resolved. This conversation covers:• L5-S1 disc herniation recovery• Sciatica without surgery• Why structure and progression matter in rehab• Surgery recommendations and considerations• How mindset and guidance accelerate healingIf you've been told surgery is your only option, this episode offers another perspective.Use code POD15 for 15% off the Limitless Program:https://spreadwhealth.com/limitless-programThis is the same program Bo- and thousands of Whealth members - have used to overcome back pain, sciatica, disc herniations, and disc bulges.

In this episode of Run the Riot, David sits down with Ryane Broussard, a driven runner, mom of four, and woman of faith who chased one goal for nearly two decades: qualifying for the Boston Marathon. But Ryane's path wasn't a straight line. After a sudden back injury left her unable to feel or control her left leg, doctors told her she'd need to find a new hobby and stop running. Ryane refused to accept that as the final word. What followed was years of rehab, identity rebuilding, and learning what perseverance really looks like—until she finally put it all together on race day and earned her Boston qualifier. This conversation is packed with practical lessons for any ultrarunner (or anyone training for marathons, ultrarunning, or ultra racing) who's faced setbacks, self-doubt, or the weight of a long-term goal. What You'll Hear in This Episode: Ryane's start in sports (including lacrosse) and how competition shaped her mindset Moving from Texas to South Louisiana and finding a running community The back injury that changed everything (and the hard season that followed) Doctors said “no more running”—how Ryane approached recovery anyway Identity shifts: when running becomes who you are (and how to reset it) The Boston qualifier chase: flu, self-sabotage, vomiting at mile 19, and trying again The power of words, self-talk, and what you “partner with” mentally Why community matters: pacers, training partners, and people who believe with you How she fits training into real life: faith, marriage, kids, work, then running Key Moments Starting point: sports background + love of achievement Back injury + surgery: the moment everything changed Rehab reality: relearning basic movement and rebuilding confidence The Boston goal: 30 marathons, setbacks, and alignment on race day The win: qualifying—and keeping it in the right place Practical Takeaways for Runners Race-day alignment matters: sleep, health, weather, and fueling can make or break the day Mindset is trainable: negative self-talk can sabotage fitness you've already earned Fueling is personal: don't introduce “new” habits (like NSAIDs) without understanding the cost Build a support system: a coach, a pacer, and training partners can carry you when your brain gets loud Keep running in its place: what you do isn't who you are—especially when setbacks hit Races Mentioned in the Episode Louisiana Summer Nights 50K/ultra effort Zydeco Marathon Stennis Marathon Boston Marathon qualifying standards shift

This is once again a Victory Monday episode of The Shotgun Start as Caleb Williams led a game-winning drive in Minnesota to push the Bears to 7-3 on the year. Andy is absolutely buzzing following the divisional win but was even more excited about the finish of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Sunday morning. Adam Schenk hung on against 40 mph winds to secure his first PGA Tour win and guarantee his status for the 2026 season. Andy and Brendan run through an incredible Sunday of television as Tour veterans and young players battled the elements on a small island in the middle of the ocean. They pitch that maybe the Butterfield should be a Signature Event to give fans a chance to watch the best players in the world try to figure out the wind patterns for four days of competition. Not to be outdone, the DP World Tour Championship went to a playoff between Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitz ended up with the win, putting a bow on a season that had him fall outside the top 80 in OWGR only to now have him back inside the top 25 heading into the new year. Andy and Brendan then take a look at the "Year of Rory" following his seventh Race to Dubai title, tying Seve's mark for second place all time. Potential Ryder Cup captain Stewart Cink chased down Steven Alker in Phoenix to become the first player since 2017 to win both the Schwab Cup Championship and the season-long honors. Champions Tour Minute also includes some Tiger Woods chatter following a Golfweek article published on Friday about his potential involvement on the senior circuit in 2026. This episode closes with a brief bit of news involving a back surgery for Justin Thomas that will keep him out of action for the first part of next season.

From surviving childhood molestation and undergoing heart surgery at just thirteen to enduring years of misdiagnosis, psychiatric medications, and even electroconvulsive therapy, Ali's early life was marked by confusion and survival. Her struggles spiraled into addiction after a near-fatal bout with liver failure introduced her to opiates, setting off a decade-long battle with substance abuse, arrests, overdoses, and heartbreak. She speaks candidly about the darkness of meth psychosis, the devastating loss of her unborn child during withdrawal, and the torment of suicidal thoughts that followed. From back surgery and chronic debilitating pain… to running, lifting, and moving freely again, I have my life back.5 years ago, I herniated two discs doing clean + jerk. I couldn't walk for weeks due to pain. I became obsessed with recovery and healed fairly quickly, but relapsed with worse pain a few years later after a chiropractic adjustment sent electric pain shooting down my leg and completely debilitated me.For years, I spiraled with pain, anger, fear, depression, drinking, and debt. I dropped out of university and spent two years living in fear, blaming others, and feeling stuck in the past. Out of desperation, I got a microdiscectomy. I expected everything to change. It didn't.A year post-surgery, still unable to run, lift, or feel normal, I joined the Whealth Limitless Programme. Having been a fan of “shirtless dude” on Instagram, I loved his meticulous approach, recognizing that you do have control despite chronic pain when everything tells you that you don't.The daily structure of the Limitless workouts helped me chip away at sciatica, back, hip, and full body pain pain, rebuild my strength, relearn how to move and lift, and ultimately get my life back. What changed everything?• Structure- a clear, step-by-step plan forward• Community- pain is isolating, but I wasn't alone anymore• Honesty- accepting where I was became the first step to changing itMost importantly, I learned from Whealth that you have a choice in chronic pain. Now, I'm lifting again, playing sports with friends, saying YES to life… and on **8/23, I'm running my first marathon to the hospital where I had surgery—**to show people in chronic pain what's possible.Every day isn't easy. But living pain-free is no longer the goal. Being stronger than yesterday is.Our Free Low back relief series: https://www.spreadwhealth.com/free-low-back-programOur FREE Hypermobility guide: https://spreadwhealth.com/hypermobility-free-resourcesChapters00:00 From Semi-Pro Athlete to Chronic Pain07:30 Disc Herniations, Sciatica, and Dropping Out15:00 How Pain Hijacked My Identity and Relationships22:30 The Injury That Came From a Chiropractor30:00 MRI Results, Surgery Pressure, and Doubt37:30 Why Taking Responsibility Was the Turning Point45:00 How the Whealth Program Changed My Mindset52:30 It Wasn't a Magic Fix — But It Was Progress1:00:00 How I Overcame Flare-Ups and Kept Going1:07:30 The Cost of Surgery vs. the Value of Whealth1:15:00 What Holistic Healing Actually Looks Like1:22:30 Why I Finally Started Therapy (and Why It Helped)1:30:00 Back Pain Forums, Reddit, and the Harm of Over-Googling1:37:30 How to Tune Into Your Body and Block Out Noise1:45:00 Advice to Anyone Facing Chronic or Mental Pain1:52:30 What Life Looks Like Now — and Why I'm Grateful

Austin was just 18 when doctors told him he'd never lift over 50 pounds again. Doctors told him surgery was inevitable.Diagnosed with two disc bulges (L5-S1 + L4-L5) and sciatica, he faced constant back pain and the looming pressure of surgery. He tried physical therapy, YouTube rehab videos, injections, and everything the traditional system had to offer but nothing worked. Then he found the Limitless Program and was pain-free in 5 weeks (program here: https://spreadwhealth.com/limitless-program)In this episode, Austin shares how he completely rewired his mindset around pain and movement. He breaks down what Limitless taught him that PT and YouTube never could - like how pain is information, why there's no one “right” way to move, and how he stopped living in fear of his body. What started with being able to load the dishwasher pain-free turned into walking 9+ miles a day at Disney, reclaiming his lifting goals, and helping others do the same as a strength and conditioning coach.Topics covered:L5-S1 disc herniation and chronic back painHow to heal without surgeryWhy physical therapy and YouTube rehab failedThe mindset shift that changed everythingHow Limitless gave Austin his life backFear of movement vs. confidence through guidanceHow pain is just information — not a life sentenceIf you're searching for:-How to fix an L5-S1 disc bulge naturally-Healing sciatica without surgery-Back pain rehab that actually works-Why physical therapy didn't work for me-How to stop fearing pain and start healing-Functional rehab for athletes-Real stories from people who avoided spine surgery…this episode is for you.Our Free Low back relief series: https://www.spreadwhealth.com/free-low-back-programOur FREE Hypermobility guide: https://spreadwhealth.com/hypermobility-free-resourcesChapters00:00 Doctors Said I'd Need Surgery01:42 What the MRI Showed: L5-S1 Disc Bulge03:05 “Surgery, surgery, surgery”05:53 Walking Out on Traditional Healthcare07:50 “I Might Never Back Squat Again”09:15 Depression, Isolation, and Daily Struggles12:00 Finding the Limitless Program13:40 First Big Win: Loading the Dishwasher Without Pain15:43 Pain Sucks Physically — But Destroys You Mentally17:57 “Everything I Have I Attribute to Limitless”24:45 I Couldn't Even Drive or Go to the Store44:11 I Don't Fear Pain Anymore — I Fix It1:05:11 Disney Trip I Thought I'd Miss — I Walked 9 Miles a Day

649 - Planning to Care For Abby & Grayson After Abby's Back Surgery

Organize 365 Podcast

Well the time is here! Abby is finally getting a back surgery we knew would need to be done despite all the cortisone shots and physical therapy. I don't share this so you can plan when your next family member needs you for a surgery. I'm sharing all my planning thoughts and iterations because where else do we hear this stuff? How do you learn how others plan? This is for any event you have coming up that requires a lot of shifting and planning. I'm going into a time where there will be a plan and I can not just “not feel like it.” I have to do what is on the plan in order to have success.  Operation “Take Care of Grayson” What does this mean for me? Full time primary care giver to Grayson. Honestly, I'm using the lens that this is a unique opportunity to spend these months with Grayson and support Abby. The first thing I knew I needed was to think about how I was going to entertain this active big 4 year old. I have a routine I am going to try out based on tiny details of care that Grayson needs and what he's used to. And I've thought about a lil lunch box I can pack for on the go, what all needs to be in my purse at all times for Grayson, and a backpack in the back of the car with things we may need when we are out. The routine is in small chunks of time that I can start to give back to Abby as she recovers.  Next Layer: The Family When going into a time of new demands on your time and capacity, you need to look at it in reverse order to figure out how to still meet as many personal and family obligations as possible. So next my brain went to the rest of my family. How will I care for Greg, Joey, and help Abby through recovery. Greg has this trip to the Keys planned to take with Joey and his dad. It's important and I encouraged them to still take it. It's during the first week after Abby's surgery. I'm asking Greg to take on a few tasks to make sure we all get fed and Grayson gets to and from Daycare.  I've been reading up on this surgery and the recovery process. I have tried to consider the physical things Abby may need to aid her in her recovery. But I have also been considering the emotional toll this may have on her. Might be tough watching me play mom to her child for a while. I will do my best to include Abby to keep her spirits up. And the physical therapy! Likely I will have those scheduled before the surgery takes place.  I'm sneaking in an adult field trip before surgery to fill my cup and one after Abby's surgery to give me something to look forward to. I also looked at work and rearranged the things I need to be in person at, to the mornings, when I will be in the office. I've decided to work from home for the first week. And Saturday showed itself as a day I can take advantage of being in the office because Greg can be home with Abby and Grayson on Saturdays. I will be working on my dissertation starting now because I have time and then Saturdays. Please cross your fingers all the research I'm going to do in advance about Prospective Memory will be worth it because I have not got the green like on this yet. But it's a risk, for times sake, that I have to take.  How Will My Planning Day Workbook Look This Time? So after taking 32 minutes to tell you all about my planning, I opened the Planning Day workbook. I walked through the workbook and shared, off the cuff, my thoughts about how I will plan according to each page. Ha! I was actually caught off guard on a couple of upcoming things like birthdays and our anniversary. Yeah, Abby needs an oil change and I checked but my car is good for a while. These are the things you should be thinking about going into something this big, what can I get done now to make this upcoming busy time more smooth? I am trying to think of everything. I will continue to mull over my calendar and rearrange things as necessary. This is a ridiculous amount of planning that my future self will thank me for doing. This is the kind of detailed planning we do in Planning Day!  EPISODE RESOURCES: The Sunday Basket® Planning Day Sign Up for the Organize 365® Newsletter  Did you enjoy this episode? At 55 years old, Joey was living with 7 herniated discs and had been in chronic pain for almost 20 years. He suffered from:✅ L5-S1, L4-L5, L3-L4, L2-L3, L1-L2 (ALL 5 lumbar discs herniated!)✅ T12-L1, T11-T12 (thoracic-lumbar herniations)His pain first started in 2007, when a debilitating back spasm left him stuck on the ground, unable to move. For nearly two decades after, he dealt with severe back pain and sciatica flare-ups every 6-7 months. He tried everything to get better:❌ Epidural injections – only temporary relief❌ Physical therapy – generic exercises, no lasting change❌ Decompression therapy – expensive and ineffective❌ Inversion tables & back braces – no long-term results❌ Surgery consultations – told he'd be in and out of the hospital for lifeWith nothing working, Joey assumed this was just his reality—until he took a chance on the Whealth Limitless Program. How Whealth Limitless Changed EverythingAt first, Joey was skeptical (like most of our members) —he had already tried so much without success. But within just a few weeks, he started feeling a difference. And in a few months, he was completely pain-free for the first time in over a decade. Now, he's:✅ Back to playing golf after 14 YEARS away from the sport✅ Running his landscaping business PAIN-FREE✅ Waking up without thinking about his back pain✅ Living life without fear of flare-upsJoey is proof that you CAN heal—even with multiple herniations and decades of pain.

The Lakers still have designs on moving up in the Western Conference, and the narrowest of windows in which to get it done. There are opportunities. The Suns, for example, have an insanely brutal schedule over their last 10 games, and the Lakers do own the tiebreaker against Phoenix. Sacramento is still in reach, and has a harder schedule than LA. But if the Lakers want to make any of this happen - and want to avoid the possibility of dropping to 10th, or even worse, open the door for a red hot Houston Rockets team, tonight's game at home against a moribund Philadelphia 76ers is simply one they should win, and must win. Must, must, must. Must. And it's those "should win" games where the Lakers have tended to struggle, playing down to the level of competition. Can't happen tonight. Meanwhile, the Lakers announced that Jalen Hood-Schifino will undergo a procedure to repair a disc issue in his back, and while no timetable was announced, it would certainly figure that he'll miss a good chunk of time, possibly the rest of the year. No impact on the big club... which really is the jumping off point for the conversation. That losing Hood-Schifino makes no difference for their fortunes shines a light on the decision to draft him in the first place over players more capable of playing an NBA role as rookies. But that question - did they draft the right guy for THIS year, is a different one than whether Hood-Schifino is a bust. It's waaaaay too early for that. And meanwhile, his stats with South Bay are actually quite good. It's just a shame his season has been so short, both because he's been injured a lot and because the Lakers couldn't send him to the G-League nearly as much as they wanted because of the injury to Gabe Vincent. Finally, a great question from a viewer on the YT page: With Cam Reddish back, would it make sense to put him in the starting lineup in order to boost the defense, and bring some scoring to the second unit?  HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers must win on Friday. There's just no way around it.  SEGMENT 2: Hood-Schifino needs back surgery, which opens up the debate about drafting him in the first place.  SEGMENT 3: Would a change in the lineup make sense?  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Stitch FixStyle that makes you feel as good as you look—get started today at StitchFix.com/LOCKEDONNissanOur friends at Nissan have a lineup of SUV's with the capabilities to take your adventure to the next level.
