The Vietnam War was a tragedy for both the United States and Vietnam. Yet for the Vietnamese, it was also a stunning victory: they defeated the world’s wealthiest nation and its most powerful military. How did they do it? In this gripping episode, we sit down with James Bradley, bestselling author of Flags of Our Fathers, to explore that very question. Drawing on a decade of research and hundreds of interviews with U.S. Marines, Viet Cong snipers, Vietnamese soldiers, political leaders, and civilians on both sides, Bradley offers a deeply human account of what really happened. Through firsthand stories and hard-earned insights, we examine the strategy, resilience, and will that enable a smaller, less-equipped nation to prevail—echoing the timeless story of David and Goliath. This episode challenges what we think we know about the war and reveals how the Vietnamese people achieved one of the most consequential upsets of the twentieth century.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Tuesday, February 3rd, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson 1,400 Nigerian kidnap victims held in forests Truth Nigeria reports that “more than 1,400 kidnap victims are held in horrific conditions in the forests of Nigeria's Kaduna State in North-central Nigeria.” Locations are well known, yet the Nigerian government refuses to get involved. So far, there are no records of Nigerian military entering the massive network of these torture camps. Horrifically, stories abound of Christians being tortured by Muslim terrorists with whips for hours until they are dead. The extremists have also severed the heads and other body parts of Christians. Please pray for the physical safety of our Nigerian brothers and sisters in Christ. Epstein file release leads to resignation of British homosexual politician Over the weekend, disgraced British politician Peter Mandelson resigned his position in the Labour Party after more revelations came out of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and alleged violations of the Seventh Commandment with girls, reports the BBC. Mandelson was also a well-known homosexual, who faux married a man, violating God's laws relating to improper relations with men. He served as British Ambassador to the United States last year, a member of the House of Lords, Secretary of State, and Lord President of the Council under Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Job 4:8 reminds us that “those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same.” Hillary Clinton aims at Doug Wilson, Allie Stuckey, & Mike Johnson Former First Lady and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton went after Reformed Pastor Douglas Wilson in a January 29th op-ed column in The Atlantic. She accused the pastor of opposing suffrage for women, advocating theocracy, and associating with War Secretary Pete Hegseth. She lumped Allie Beth Stuckey, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Doug Wilson's Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches into the same basket of what she called “Christian nationalists.” She lamented the sharp decline in participation and membership in mainstream liberal churches. She called for “empathy” in government, referring to Jesus's comments to turn the other cheek, but had nothing to say about Romans 13. She said she opposes tyranny and embraces homosexual and transgender rights. And she decried Trump's immorality, but had nothing to say about Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein in the opinion piece. Trump announces trade deal with India On Monday, President Donald Trump announced a trade deal with India, reports The Epoch Times. The United States would reduce import tariffs from 50% to 18% — a 25% relief if India agrees to stop imports of Russian oil.  The Afghanistan Taliban government reintroduced slavery On January 27th, U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch announced that the Afghanistan Taliban government has re-incorporated slavery in the country. The new Afghan criminal procedure code issued in January also provides the Taliban government with “broad and dangerous authority to kill opponents, critics, and human rights activists under this designation, without guaranteeing the right to defense and fair trial,” according to Rawadari.org. Quite the opposite of the Islamic vision for the world, Jesus has come “To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18,19) “Jelly Roll” glorified Jesus Christ at the Grammys This year's Grammy Awards ceremony, which recognizes achievement in the music industry, came and went again, with its typical outrageous, scandalous presentations, leftist political bias, and demoralizing and anti-social content. But one country music personality by the name of Jason DeFord, known as Jelly Roll, stood out from the crowd for a minute or two, when he addressed the audience. Listen. DEFORD: “I know they're gonna try to kick me off here, so just let me try to get this out. There was a time in my life, y'all that I was, I was broken. That's why I wrote this album. I didn't think I had a chance, y'all. There was days that I thought the darkest things. I was a horrible human. “There was a moment in my life that all I had was a Bible this big, and a radio the same size, and a six by eight-foot cell. And I believe that those two things could change my life. I believe that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life. “And I want to tell y'all right now: Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label. Jesus is Jesus, and anybody can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord.” Every now and then, the truth slips out. Jelly Roll won a Grammy for the Best Contemporary Country Album entitled “Beautifully Broken,” reports Forbes. 13-year-old boy swam 4 hours off Australian coast to save family And finally, a 13-year-old boy saved his mother and two siblings who had drifted off the coast of Australia last Friday by swimming four kilometers, reports the BBC. The 13-year-old swam the first two hours with his life jacket on. That was slowing him down, so he ditched it, and swam the last two hours without it. The family had been paddle-boarding and kayaking off the coast of Western Australia, when strong winds pushed them out to sea. The boy made it to shore by 6:00 pm. Two and a half hours later, a rescue helicopter spotted the mom with her 12-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter at 8:30 pm. The Marine Rescue Group commended the young man for his “bravery, strength and courage.” Paul Bresland, commander of the group, called the feat “superhuman.”  And an inspector, James Bradley, said,  "The actions of the 13-year-old boy cannot be praised highly enough. His determination and courage ultimately saved the lives of his mother and siblings." 2 Chronicles 15:7 says, “But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, February 3rd, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Hans “Sermon of the Rabbit and the Fox” vender det klassiske ræv/kanin-motiv på hovedet. Lai Zhen anbefaler samarbejde i små grupper. Enoch prædikede fællesskab med naturen. Men milliardærerne? The Godfather of Modern Law: James Bradley Thayer's Hidden Influence

Dr. Porwancher takes us on a fascinating journey through the hidden influence of James Bradley Thayer, a Harvard Law professor whose mentorship shaped America's legal giants like Louis Brandeis, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Felix Frankfurter. What makes this exploration particularly special is its creation – a collaborative book co-authored with former students, mirroring Thayer's own dedication to mentorship and student development. At the heart of Thayer's legacy lies his philosophy of judicial restraint – the revolutionary idea that unelected judges should defer to democratically elected legislatures except in the most egregious constitutional violations. This principle resonates through generations of American jurisprudence, with Chief Justice John Roberts channeling this very philosophy when he wrote that "it is not the role of this court to save the American people from their political choices." The intellectual lineage from Thayer to Roberts spans just three degrees of separation, demonstrating how profoundly one professor's teachings can echo through centuries of legal thought. What's particularly striking about Thayer's approach is how it transcends partisan politics. His philosophy has been embraced by progressives and conservatives alike at different historical moments, depending on who controls the judiciary. This cyclical pattern reveals a fundamental truth about American constitutional governance – the tension between democratic majorities and counter-majoritarian rights protection. Through vivid stories of Thayer's teaching methods and the almost religious reverence his students held for him, we discover how the formative experiences of young law students eventually shape the monumental decisions that govern our lives and liberties today. Beyond just legal doctrine, this conversation reminds us that behind every Supreme Court opinion lies a deeply human story of mentorship, influence, and intellectual inheritance. American politics has been dominated by two major political parties for large swaths of time. They raise money, put forward candidates at every level of government, get them elected, and - for better or worse - keep them there. It's a system that was spearheaded by Martin Van Buren, the eighth president. Though his administration was a bust, he has influenced public life since he left office in 1841. James Bradley is an editor of the Van Buren Papers, and argues on this episode that Van Buren may not belong in the proverbial presidential hall of fame, but that he must be studied and remembered.Information on James Bradley's book from Oxford University Press can be found hereThe website for the Van Buren Papers can be found at https://vanburenpapers.org/Support our show and Reach out and Read of Tampa Bay at https://patreon.com/axelbankhistoryAxelbankHistory.com is designed by https://www.ellieclairedesigns.com/Axelbank Reports History and Today" can be found on social media at https://twitter.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://instagram.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://facebook.com/axelbankhistory

Some say that Martin Van Buren was one of themost remarkable politicians—not only of his time, but in American presidential history. Co-editor of the Martin Van Buren Papers, James M. Bradley writes this new biography of the 8th president of the United States . Van Buren was the first chief executive not born a British citizen, and the first to use the party system to chart his way from tavern-keeper's son to the pinnacle of power. Additionally, he was the principal architect of the party system and one of the founders of the Democratic Party, he came to dominate New York-then the most influential state in the Union-and was instrumental in electing Andrew Jackson president. Van Buren's skills as a political strategist were unparalleled—and was coined the "Little Magician"—winning him a series of high-profile offices: US senator, New York's governor, US secretary of state, US vice president, and finally theWhite House. In his rise to power, Van Buren sought consensus and conciliation, bending to the wishes of slave interests and complicit in the dispossession of America's Indigenous population, two of the darkest chapters in American history. This first full-scale portrait charts Van Buren's ascent from a tavern in the Hudson Valley to the presidency, concluding with his late-career involvement in an antislavery movement. Offering vivid profiles of the day's leading figures including Andrew Jackson, Henry Clay, John Calhoun, John Quincy Adams, DeWitt Clinton, and James Polk, Bradley's book depicts the struggle for power in the tumultuous decadesleading up to the Civil War.About the AuthorJames M. Bradley is co-editor of the Martin Van Buren Papers, based at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. Yet krill are declining in key areas that threaten the entire polar food chain for reasons from the obvious, such as overfishing in critical habits, to the species' more complicated and dependent relationship on winter sea ice. Starlight sprinkles down on Earth like raindrops in a summer shower. And like raindrops, the sprinkles of starlight can appear to change direction. This effect is known as aberration of starlight. It was discovered three centuries ago by an astronomer who was trying to measure the distance to Eltanin, the brightest star of Draco, the dragon. James Bradley was looking for the star’s parallax. The idea is to observe a star when Earth is at opposite sides of its orbit. That causes stars that are close to us to shift position relative to stars that are farther away. Measuring the size of that shift reveals the star’s distance. Bradley did see a shift in Eltanin’s position. But it wasn’t related to the star’s distance. Instead, it was caused by Earth’s orbital speed. The effect is like watching raindrops fall from inside a car. If you’re sitting still, the raindrops might appear to fall straight down. But if you’re cruising down the highway, they appear to come toward you at an angle. The raindrops aren’t moving any differently – you are. The same thing happens with starlight. Thanks to Earth’s motion around the Sun, the “drops” of light appear to come in from different angles at different times of year. That causes a star to appear to shift position – the result of the aberration of starlight. Eltanin is high in the north-northeast at nightfall. The moderately bright star stands to the left of brilliant Vega. Script by Damond Benningfield

In Lee's own words: I was born and raised in Concord, NC.  Just Northeast of Charlottle, it was a town of 25,000 back then.  As long as I can remember, music was around.  Whether it be the turntables or 8 tracks; where my older brothers played rock and roll of the 60s & 70s, Dad listened to older country artists or Mom's Pontiac Bonneville, which seemed to always have the hits playing through it's car stereo from either 61AM Big Ways, 95FM WROQ or 1100 WBT-AM…Music was always a comforting companion.       Not coming from a particularly musical family other than them playing the radio, the drum bug came from the next door neighbor playing and then taking it from there.  I was playing with records by 8-9 years old; began school band in 7th grade with the natural progression through high school playing in marching, jazz and symphonic bands throughout.       Since music was not viewed in my family as something you pursued as a career, I studied English Literature & Writing at Pfeiffer University until my senior year in 1990-91 when long time friend and a musical mentor, Rick Lee, called and said, "I'm forming a new band and you're the drummer."  This was the beginnings of my music career and the 2019 Carolina Beach Music Hall Of Fame band, Too Much Sylvia.       After leaving TMS in 1994, I played with a few different bands out of Charlotte and all around the East Coast through 1996.  In September 1996, a weeklong trip to Nashville, TN put the hook in and I moved to Music City on January 11, 1997.  Fortunately, I got club and road work pretty quickly while learning constantly along the way.  The idea was to make a living while seeing the world and that plan came to fruition over the years backing artists like Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Heidi Newfield, Kelly Pickler, Loverboy, Kendell Marvel and, now, Hank Williams Jr.  Also, to be able to play and share time with some of the finest musicians & people along the way has just been magic.
