Philosopher of physics David Wallace breaks down the Everett (Many-Worlds) interpretation of quantum mechanics in today's episode. We discuss the big misconceptions in physics and explore probability, emergence, and personal identity across multiple worlds. Wallace also touches on the Born Rule, the direction of time, and why consciousness may not be as mysterious as it seems. This is a mind-bending tour through the foundations of reality. Enjoy. In the previous excerpt from my conversation with Stephen Wolfram, I asked him how I can remain a single, coherent, persistent consciousness in a branching universe. In this excerpt, we went deeper into this question. As a conscious observer, I have a single thread of experience. So if the universe branches into many timelines, why don't I branch into many versions of me?Stephen's answer touched on many profound aspects of the Wolfram model. He started with the failure of the Many Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics to consider the possibility that different branches of history can merge, in other words, come back together again. This failure is rooted in assumption that the universe is continuous; as soon as we start thinking of the universe as discrete, such merging seems not only possible, but inevitable. He went on to consider the concept of causal invariance, the idea that it doesn't matter which of countless similar paths you take through the multiway graph, you end up in the same place. In the Ruliad, he said, causal invariance is inevitable. Then we got to the core of the concept of the observer. According to Stephen Wolfram, an observer equivalences many different states and experiences the aggregate of these states.I did not expect Stephen's next move, to apply the concept of aggregation not just to observers, but to the universe itself. He made the profound proposal that in the Wolfram model of physics, in addition to the computation of the hypergraph through the application of rules, there's a process of aggregation of possible paths through the multiway graph to weave the future.—Stephen WolframStephen WolframThe Wolfram Physics ProjectWolfram InstituteWolfram Institute Community DiscordConcepts mentioned by StephenMany Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanicsComputational irreducibilityCausal invarianceThe RuliadSequentializationEquivalencing—The Last Theory is hosted by Mark Jeffery founder of Open Web MindI release The Last Theory as a video too! The events of one the most famous Everest stories took place a century ago, when George Mallory and Sandy Irvine disappeared during the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition.  A hundred years later, a group of writers is shedding light on the many different people and worlds that have, throughout history, had an important connection to the mountain. In sixteen different essays: Other Everests: One Mountain, Many Worlds tells stories from new perspectives—of people and things that have long been overlooked.  Editors Jonathan Westaway and Peter Hansen joined the Alpinist Podcast to discuss why they embarked on this project. And Sarah Pickman, who wrote one of the pieces in the Other Everests collection, discussed what we can learn from what gear and equipment was brought along on expeditions.  Support for this episode of the Alpinist Podcast comes from Patagonia. ACESS VIDEO VERSION BELOW, PURE AUDIO ABOVE Welcome to Season 11 Episode 4 of Thoth-Hermes Podcast…. Though with our guest in this dialogue, who can be quite sure of linear time?  Rudolf and Karin are in conversation with author Dr. Eric Wargo. Academically an anthropologist, Eric has extended his spirit of scientific enquiry through Hermeticism, Alchemy, and into the contemporary “paranormal” discourse at large.  Most specifically, he has taken on depth exploration of time: time loops, retrocausation, and precognition.  This branch of study began for Eric in 2009, after having a UFO/UAP Experience.  This anomalous experience created his initiation into the branch of modern scientists fully versed in scientific method yet fully aware of the mountain of Spooky anecdotal evidence of More.  Law of Large Numbers? Yes, acknowledged: and gently set aside.  Materialist explanation?  A precise language with descriptive validity and profound explanatory limitations.  Experience and initiation- their distinction, and coexistence- are honored throughout this conversation. Eric encountered break-out success with his 2018t book “Time Loops” (which Karin is on record as “passing out almost like Gospel” and scribe Emily keeps in her inner temple box of books).  He has also written on Precognitive Dreaming (2021).  In his current release, “From Nowhere”, he applies these insights to creativity.  Eric notes the role of skilled stress states, flow states, altered states, and creative states in the enhanced experience of precognition.  He also invites a cultural shift towards the upfront naming of retrocausation; moving past Cartesian duality; and  transcending the labyrinth closures found with all of free will, predestination, and Many Worlds theory. In the expanse of unknown, this interview spans a variety of lenses on time and anomaly.  We hear a definition of “retrocausation” that includes both the science of the subatomic level and the co-existing validity of intuitive experience.  The occult Higher Self as perhaps the Long Self which Eric articulates in relation to precognitive dreaming.  The notion of “flipping Freud” and symbolic precognitive insight as the method the Long Self can use to address our agency.  The challenges of True Will, Free Will, and dynamic interaction with choice.  Eric suggests that our “intentions” may frequently be misrecognized precognitions.  If this sounds like one wild moebius strip of a conversation: it is!  And highly enjoyable.  After you listen, carry receptivity for unfolding Wonder in your life events. Eric Wargo has a PhD in anthropology from Emory University and works as a science writer and editor in Washington, DC. He is the author of three books on precognition: From Nowhere, Precognitive Dreamwork and the Long Self, and the acclaimed Time Loops. In his spare time, he writes about science fiction, consciousness, and the paranormal at his popular blog, The Nightshirt. Click here to access Eric's blog! Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: A computational complexity argument for many worlds, published by jessicata on August 15, 2024 on LessWrong. The following is an argument for a weak form of the many-worlds hypothesis. The weak form I mean is that there are many observers in different branches of the wave function. The other branches "actually exist" for anthropic purposes; some observers are observing them. I've written before about difficulties with deriving discrete branches and observers from the Schrödinger equation; I'm ignoring this difficulty for now, instead assuming the existence of a many-worlds theory that specifies discrete branches and observers somehow. To be clear, I'm not confident in the conclusion; it rests on some assumptions. In general, physics theories throughout history have not been completely correct. It would not surprise me if a superintelligence would consider many-worlds to be a false theory. Rather, I am drawing implications from currently largely accepted physics and computational complexity theory, and plausible anthropic assumptions. First assumption: P != BQP. That is, there are some decision problems that cannot be decided in polynomial time by a classical computer but can be decided in polynomial time by an idealized quantum computer. This is generally accepted (RSA security depends on it) but not proven. This leaves open the possibility that the classically hardest BQP problems are only slightly harder than polynomial time. Currently, it is known that factorizing a b-bit integer can be done in roughly O(exp(cb1/3)) time where c is a constant greater than 1, while it can be done in polynomial time on an idealized quantum computer. I want to make an assumption that there are decision problems in BQP whose running time is "fast-growing", and I would consider O(exp(cb1/3)) "fast-growing" in this context despite not being truly exponential time. For example, a billion-bit number would require at least exp(1000) time to factorize with known classical methods, which is a sufficiently huge number for the purposes of this post. Second assumption: The universe supports BQP computation in polynomial physical resources and clock time. That is, it's actually possible to build a quantum computer and solve BQP problems in polynomial clock time with polynomial physical resources (space, matter, energy, etc). This is implied by currently accepted quantum theories (up to a reasonably high limit of how big a quantum computer can be). Third assumption: A "computational density anthropic prior", combining SIA with a speed prior, is a good prior over observations for anthropic purposes. As background, SIA stands for "self-indicating assumption" and SSA stands for "self-sampling assumption"; I'll assume familiarity with these theories, specified by Bostrom. According to SIA, all else being equal, universes that have more observers are more likely. Both SSA and SIA accept that universes with no observers are never observed, but only SIA accepts that universes with more observers are in general more likely. Note that SSA and SIA tend to converge in large universes (that is, in a big universe or multiverse with many observers, you're more likely to observe parts of the universe/multiverse with more observers, because of sampling). The speed prior implies that, all else being equal, universes that are more efficient to simulate (on some reference machine) are more likely. A rough argument for this is that in a big universe, many computations are run, and cheap computations are run more often, generating more observers. The computational density anthropic prior combines SIA with a speed prior, and says that we are proportionally more likely to observe universes that have a high ratio of observer-moments to required computation time. We could imagine aliens simulating many universes in paral...

(https://vmasrani.github.io/blog/2023/aecr-challenge/) Second: Can we predict human behaviour? A discussion with Brett Hall (https://vmasrani.github.io/blog/2023/predicting-human-behaviour/) Quotes The Argument: Those who work hardest (and smartest) should get the most money. Not only should we not begrudge them that money, but we should thank them for the good they must have done for the world in order to satisfy so many consumers. People who do not work hard should not get as much money. If they want more money, they should work harder. Getting more money without working harder or smarter is unfair, and indicative of a false sense of entitlement. Unfortunately, modern liberal society has internalized the opposite principle: that those who work hardest are greedy people who must have stolen from those who work less hard, and that we should distrust them at until they give most of their ill-gotten gains away to others. The “progressive” taxation system as it currently exists serves this purpose. This way of thinking is not only morally wrong-headed, but economically catastrophic. Leaving wealth in the hands of the rich would “make the pie bigger”, allowing the extra wealth to “trickle down” to the poor naturally. The Counterargument: Hard work and intelligence are contributory factors to success, but depending on the way you phrase the question, you find you need other factors to explain between one-half and nine-tenths of the difference in success within the United States; within the world at large the numbers are much higher. If a poor person can't keep a job solely because she was lead-poisoned from birth until age 16, is it still fair to blame her for her failure? And is it still so unthinkable to take a little bit of money from everyone who was lucky enough to grow up in an area without lead poisoning, and use it to help her and detoxify her neighborhood? Déjà vu occurs when someone perceives they have already experienced a situation before, and their body experiences familiarity with the experience and confusion. This term was first used by Émile Boirac in the year 1876. Boirac was a French philosopher who wrote a book that included the sensation of déjà vu in his writings, titled "The Psychology of the Future" (LiveScience, Ede). Déjà vu has been presented as a reminiscence of memories, "These experiments have led scientists to suspect that déjà vu is a memory phenomenon. We encounter a situation that is similar to an actual memory but we can't fully recall that memory". This evidence, found by Émile Boirac, helps the public understand what déjà vu can entail on the average brain. It was also stated, ". . . Our brain recognizes the similarities between our current experience and one in the past . . . left with a feeling of familiarity that we can't quite place" (Scientific American, Stierwalt). Throughout history, there have been many theories on what causes déjà vu. This phenomenon has displayed its difficulty to be tested due to its random occurrence in people.   Theories Parallel Universe This theory claims that déjà vu can be explained by the feeling of having lived a moment before as a “crossover” with a parallel universe. Meaning, that whatever you're doing while experiencing the déjà vu, a parallel version of you is doing it in a different universe simultaneously — creating an alignment between the two universes!   The Hologram This theory is the idea that our memories are formed like three-dimensional images. Which means that they have a structured frame network to them. This suggests that the entire formation of a memory can be reconstructed by one element. Therefore, if one stimulus in our environment reminds us of a previous moment we have experienced, our brain makes a connection to the past event and produces a “hologram” of the memory to make it feel like we are reliving it.   Precognitive Dreams This theory explains déjà vu by suggesting that the moment we have the experience of living something before, is when we have previously dreamed about the present happenings. For example, you may have a dream about riding your bike on a certain road, and then later you ride your bike on the same road as the one in your dream. You have a precognitive recollection of the road which allows you to recognize it. As dreaming is not a conscious process, this explains why we don't consciously recognize the stimulus yet still feel that it is familiar — such as the road in this case.    Reincarnation Reincarnation is based on having several lifetimes before we were born into this life, with no recollection of the previous ones. This theory explains the experience of déjà vu by referring to the moment as a signal from a previous life. There could be a trigger in the environment which allows the transition of consciousness to occur. Such as recognizing a certain stimulus from a previous existence and momentarily remembering a past life.

Lee Smolin is a founding and senior faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. He is best known for contributions to quantum gravity as a co-inventor of loop quantum gravity and deformed special relativity. Beyond his work in other areas of physics, Lee has written a number of best-selling books, the most recent of which is Einstein's Unfinished Revolution: The Search for What Lies Beyond the Quantum (Penguin, 2019). In this episode, Robinson and Lee discuss one of the main tenets that has characterized his work over the past decades: Realism. They first talk about realism in quantum mechanics before moving on to Lee's version of radical presentism, in which only what is occurring in the immediate present can be said to exist, before finishing the main body of their conversation with mathematics and its relation to both physics and cosmology. The episode ends with brief digressions on biology and living with Parkinson's disease. Lee is also an Honorary Fellow of the John Bell Institute for the Foundations of Physics.      In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Hermann Simon . Hermann Simon, PhD., is a world-renowned management thinker, consultant, pricing expert, entrepreneur and leading authority on the “hidden champions” business model. He is the founder and honorary chairman of Simon-Kucher & Partners, the world's leading price consultancy with over 1,700 employees and 42 offices worldwide. Simon is the author of 40 books in 30 different languages, including worldwide bestseller Hidden Champions, first published by Harvard Business School in 1996.       Since Simon's introduction of the term “Hidden Champion'' almost thirty years ago, business leaders have been fascinated with these 3,400 successful companies – roughly half of which are German – who, despite being midsize companies, often have global market shares of over 50 percent. These hidden champions are behind Germany's success in exports and a differentiator in how business is done in the United States. Simon's recent work focuses on how the United States and other countries can learn from Germany's hidden champions.      Simon continues to bring value to the marketing world through his writing, recentling publishing True Profit!: No Company Ever Went Broke Turning a Profit (Springer, July 2021). In True Profit! Simon brings clarity to the jungle of profits and balance sheets, shedding light on the performance of numerous companies and industries in an international comparison. He discusses the dilemma of why more than 80% of companies in the U.S. that have gone public have never turned a profit, and questions allegations of corporate greed – arguing that profit-making is ethical if achieved in a decent way.      Recently, Simon also released an autobiography, Many Worlds, One Life: A Remarkable Journey from Farmhouse to the Global Stage (Springer, March 2021), which highlights the influences on his remarkable journey from humble origins on a German farm to advising and sharing the stage with global leaders in industry, academia and politics. Many Worlds, One Life reveals unique insights into the man himself and the origins of his ideas on successful leadership and business strategy. Many Worlds, One Life has been published in English, German, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.      Simon's upcoming book, Hidden Champions in the Chinese Century: Ascent and Transformation (Springer, April 2022), is an in-depth exploration of the ever-changing operating conditions, as well as the greater uncertainty and volatility, that will define global business over the next 10 years—with a particular focus on China's impact. Whether a company is a “Hidden Champion” or aspires to be one, this newest release from Simon provides essential food for thought as executives and managers chart their course into the future.      Before committing himself to management consulting, Simon was a professor of business administration and marketing at the Universities of Mainz and Bielefeld. During his academic career, he was a visiting professor at Harvard Business School, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as INSEAD, London Business School and Keio University in Tokyo. Simon is an honorary professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, and the “Hermann Simon Business School” in China is named after him.      In 1995, Simon made the life-changing decision to leave his professorship behind. He put his Hidden Champions blueprint into practice as an entrepreneur, founding his own consulting firm, Simon-Kucher & Partners, with Dr. Eckhard Kucher, his first doctoral student. Simon-Kucher & Partners is now the global market leader in price consulting, growing considerably faster than the rest of the consulting market, with $522 million in revenue in 2021, 18% average annual growth, and a clear focus on top-line growth.    Learn more and connect with Hermann Simon by visiting him on   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hermann.simon.50 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZnVfMkFXvm2GLpy5VsVdtA Twitter: https://twitter.com/hermannsimon     Be sure to follow us on Twitter: Twitter.com/to_growth on Facebook: facebook.com/Road2Growth   Subscribe to our podcast across the web: https://www.theenriquezgroup.com/blog Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2Cdmacc iTunes: https://apple.co/2F4zAcn Castbox: http://bit.ly/2F4NfQq Google Play: http://bit.ly/2TxUYQ2 Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKnzMRkl-PurAb32mCLCMeA?view_as=subscriber   If you are looking to be a Guest on Podcasts please click below  https://kitcaster.com/rtg/  For any San Diego Real Estate Questions Please Follow Us at web: www.TheEnriquezGroup.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKnzMRkl-PurAb32mCLCMeA or Call : 858 -345 - 7829 Recently reduced properties in San Diego County * Click **** bit.ly/3cbT65C **** Here* ****************************************************************************
