Evan is off this week, so Megan and Dave braved this week's releases. Actually, Dave didn't see TWISTERS (2:39) — Lee Isaac Chung's disaster movie legacy sequel starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos — so it's up to Megan to tell you, dear listeners, that it's kind of crap. She has some positive things say about it (Glen Powell, for example)…but not many. Both Megan and Dave saw WIDOW CLICQUOT (21:52), a period-piece biopic directed by Thomas Napper about Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot who took over her husband's champagne business after his death. French people, chateaus, business? Dave's all about it (and all about Haley Bennett!). Megan liked it but didn't love it. Finally, they both saw ODDITY (39:07), Damian Mc Carthy's eerie horror film about a psychic (Carolyn Bracken) investigating her twin sister's murder, and his follow-up to CAVEAT. And they loved it! No complaints! Four stars! This movie is one creepy bastard! Over on Patreon, Megan and Dave talked about TWISTER, Jan de Bont's 1996 film starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, because apparently the pain of TWISTERS wasn't enough. (We actually enjoy it!)

What We Cover In This Episode: Why offering more classes doesn't equal higher member retention [1:08] What a recent study about the fitness habits of Gen Z tells us about the future of the industry [5:05] Both Megan and Nick's “Quick Wins” for the week [10:12] Why member progress tracking is such an important thing to do in your studio [13:19] The reasons you should be tracking class instructor performance and how to do it [16:09] What engagement metrics are and how they can help you evaluate your studio's performance [18:01] The way to collect feedback through reviews and our new partner, Epifany [20:37] Our weekly challenge we have for you [25:12] Quotes: “You might have a packed schedule, but if you're really spreading yourself too thin and you're not performing with quality content on your schedule, your members aren't going to be happy. Happy members prefer quality classes taught by skilled instructors, rather than having way too many options.” [Megan, 1:50] “I think looking better, feeling better and performing better, all these things are important. How are you not only going to track that on your own, but if it's not going to be something you track, how do you promote that for your members to do on their own?” [Megan, 15:20] “By monitoring your attendance rates, your member feedback and your waitlists, you as a studio can really determine what classes are your most popular, what instructors are getting rave reviews, and really that's going to be the driving force of your business.” [Megan, 16:28] “You really want to see how engaged your members are, because engaged members are more likely to stay local to your studio.” [Megan, 18:13] LINKS: Episode 177: Industry Tea with Partner Epifany - Getting the Best Data-Driven Insight (and Engagement) for Your Boutique Fitness Business Les Mills' Study on Gen Z's Fitness Habits fitDEGREE's Business Portal https://calendly.com/fitdegree/support support@fitDEGREE.com https://www.instagram.com/fitdegree/ https://www.instagram.com/fitspot_guru/ https://www.fitdegree.com/blog https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChJ5rK6zWPXjbxtUQx3ys9Q

SHE SAID follows New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor as they try to expose Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein for his years of sexual abuse of women. Both Megan and Jodi must balance their jobs at the Times with their lives as wives and mothers. The movie shows the lengths they must go, traveling across seas, tracking down people, constant phone calls, and late nights with little sleep, to expose Weinstein's alleged crimes. Their efforts lead to the start of the Me Too Movement against sexual harassment.

This is a sneak peek of our July 2022 True Crime Patreon Exclusive content. You can hear the full episode here. Starting at the $3 level of our Patreon membership! Megan covers a case suggestion from listener and Patreon Mia! Thanks, Mia! This story is incredibly difficult to tell. Cooper Harris was a beautiful blonde-haired toddler, taken from this life too early. Cooper was only 22 months old when he died of hyperthermia, after being left alone in his father's hot car in June 2014 in the Home Depot headquarters parking lot, in Vinings, Georgia. Both Megan and Danielle remember the day this story broke, and when we tell you that the coverage was everywhere, we mean it. This story has recently been back in the news, and may take this story on a whole different path soon enough. Of course, we will keep y'all updated as updates come in. Spring is here! The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and we're talking love. Are we qualified to talk love? Absolutely not, but are we going to anyways, oh yes yes yes. Both Megan and Amanda celebrated their respective anniversaries this week and it felt like a good time to walk down memory lane and recount our personal courtships and proposals. We might even dive into some deeply introspective moments of our lives and leave with more questions than answers. In which case we might need your help!
I think today's topic will resonate with you all. It's a topic that hits close to home for me regarding my son, which is all about reluctant writers. I'm so excited because we have the literacy guru on today's show: Megan Polk, who is also a presenter at our summer virtual conference, Educate & Rejuvenate! Both Megan and I have a great conversation regarding reluctant writers and how to boost their engagement, interest, and motivation when it comes to writing. One of the things Megan specializes in is bridging the educational gap of content through grade levels. We've talked on previous podcasts before about the learning gaps due to COVID, and writing is no exception. Not only are students reluctant to write, but adding in their gaps, makes it seem impossible for our students. The majority of our conversation was surrounded by building a student's confidence and celebrating the small victories in their writing that will eventually lead to big victories. Other solutions include modeling how to write, providing scaffolds, establishing routine one-on-one writing conferences, focusing on one writing skill at a time, and sharing their writing with peers or younger grade-level classes. It's a Field Trip episode! We start off with bubbles in Oregon and go then go back to Paso in this first episode of 2022. Both Megan and I get very suspicious of Carrie and think she may be an imposter. However, it is very difficult to tell. The wines reviewed are: Magical Wonders Behold, a 2020 Cabernet Franc Sparkling Rosé by UPSIDEDOWN WINE, and Series 1, a 2019 Montepulciano by DÉTENTE WINES.
Hi, everyone! Buckle up because we have a lot of movies this week. Megan and Dave run through Sundance and just about every movie they saw. (Evan is off this week and will return next week.) Both Megan and Dave saw LIVING (2:19) starring Bill Nighy; DUAL (8:31) starring Karen Gillan and Aaron Paul; YOU WON'T BE ALONE (13:00) starring Noomi Rapace; and MASTER (19:10) starring Regina Hall and Zoe Renee. Finally, Dave gives short reviews of CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH (59:30), starring Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson; ALICE (1:01:24), starring Keke Palmer; SUMMERING (1:03:48), starring Lake Bell, Sarah Cooper and Megan Mullally; and WHEN YOU FINISH SAVING THE WORLD (1:05:15), starring Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard. There are more Sundance movies on the Patreon this week and we'll cover the January poll winner in the next episode.
We are joined tonight by a special guest, it's Renise, one of the Black Bachelor Babes! Follow them on Instagram, IMMEDIATELY. There was so much that happened in these four hours. The main focus of our conversation, and the conversation on social media, is the triangle between our Queen Natasha, Pieper, and Brendan. The way that Brendan treated Natasha is incredibly hurtful and manipulative. Both Megan and Danielle admit they were wrong and make public apologies. Megan's apology is to Natasha herself, and Danielle's to the listeners about her former stanning of Brendan (Megan also joins in this apology). AND THEN to watch a very similar triangle play out between Chris, Jessenia, and Alana… where everyone runs to Jessenia's side, really makes us want to hug Natasha. We also chat about Joe and Kendall, plus the Kenny, Demi, Tia, and Mari square. Monday's episode gets 40 BIPOC points. We saw Pieper on a date, heard from Serena P., Abigail, Mari, Jessenia, and Natasha. We also saw Deandra, Thomas, Maurissa, Riley, and Ivan. On Tuesday we saw Chris, Chelsea, Aaron, and Thomas go on dates. We heard from Mari, Tammy, Maurissa, and Riley. We also saw Ivan, Serena P., Abigail, Deandra, and Natasha. Danielle gave bonus points for our new host, Tituss Burgess, and bonus points for the BIPOC contestants invited to the VIP group date. The total for Tuesday is 87. In this week’s show, we discuss how arts based methodologies and the knowledge and skills of an artist can be used within the field of health to create new understandings and promote wellbeing in people living with dementia. Our first guest is freelance Artist and Academic, Dr Megan Wyatt. Megan recently completed her PhD at Wrexham Glyndwr University, investigated how people living with dementia engage with and experience painting. We are also joined by Megan’s PhD Supervisor Dr Susan Liggett. Susan is the Associate Dean for the Research Faculty of Art Science and Technology at the University, and her research considers how visual arts can contribute to a better society. Both Megan and Susan are passionate about the benefits of Art in dementia, having both experienced the impact of the disease within close relatives. Together they co-authored a paper on “The Potential of Painting: Unlocking Disenfranchised Grief for People Living With Dementia” and are in the process of writing a chapter for the practical handbook of dementia to be published later this year. Dr Megan O’Hare hosted the show which was recorded in November 2020. The growing prevalence of dementia, combined with an absence of effective pharmacological treatments, highlights the potential of psychosocial interventions to alleviate the effects of dementia and enhance quality of life. Art, Dance, Music, Singing and other interventions have been proven to be effecting as a means to support improved wellbeing and reduce agitation in people living with dementia. Delivering these interventions and measuring their impact can be challenging, we hope this show is useful to anyone working in this field, and would love to hear from others to discuss this field in a blog for the Dementia Researcher website. _____________________________________________________________________ Review the paper discussed here: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1054137318780577 You can find out more about our panellists, and their work on our website: https://www.dementiaresearcher.nihr.ac.uk A transcript of this podcast is also available here https://www.dementiaresearcher.nihr.ac.uk/podcast-researching-art-to-help-people-living-with-dementia _____________________________________________________________________ Like what you hear? In the final episode of the Business Wisdom Series (for now!), Megan asks Steph: "From here, it looks like it's all fun and success for you in your business. But is that the whole story?"Steph breaks down her recent (spontaneous) successful launch, and how exactly she sold 37 seats... without trying very hard at all. Both Megan and Steph also share the hard parts that aren't talked about as often: the fears, the uncertainty, and how we even make decisions about what things to try in our businesses in the first place. It might all look like a bunch of success, but there's a lot under the surface... explore it with us!
Amanda Scott with A Swanky Affair sat down with Megan to go over the Top Ten wedding planning mistakes couples make. Both Megan and Amanda are wedding planners in the Triangle area and have seen just about every mistake possible. In going over them, they get to share some of their stories usually reserved for parties, from both the planning process and the wedding day. The top ten wedding planning mistakes are: Planning outside your budget Booking the venue before hiring a planner Assuming a home wedding will be less expensive than a wedding in a venue Not having a rain plan Sending out save-the-dates too soon Using friends and family as vendors Planning for others Not hiring a videographer Not hiring a wedding planner Hiring vendors without due diligence Then Megan grills Amanda with some personal questions in the lightning round, the hard hitting questions like what her guilty TV and fast food pleasures are and what celebrity quote book she reads from every day. Episode 6 is brought to you by JustMensRings.com, the leader in affordable fashion and wedding rings. The rings on the website look amazing and are ridiculously inexpensive already - typically less than $50 for a ring you'd pay $500-$1000 for in a store. And if you use the promo code “real” at checkout, you’ll get an additional 15% off your purchase. So there’s no need to spend $1000 on a wedding band, just go to JustMensRings.com with promo code “real”. Excludes designer benchmark rings. Music for this episode by https://www.bensound.com. The host of the show is Megan Gillikin, owner and lead consultant at A Southern Soiree Wedding and Event Planning. She's also available for wedding and hospitality business consulting and can be reached at megan@weddingsforreal.com. Weddings for Real is edited and produced by Jason Gillikin for Earfluence.
The story of Seamus Golf, a golf headcover and handmade products company, begins with a beer bong of all things. A beer bong in Corvallis, Oregon on gameday between Oregon State and the University of Oregon. Megan Kenton convinced Akbar Chisti to do a beer bong, and though they barely knew each other at the time, they had a future in business together, as well as marriage. Both Megan and Akbar talked with Sean Zak recently about how they created a giant in the headcover business, and got the attention of every governing body in golf. This is a story of a startup company, but also a story of living freely with your present and your future, and stepping out on a limb with business decisions.

Hey hey! Welcome to episode 188 of Life on Fire. Today we’re talking about what I learned from recently competing in a Tough Mudder competition. If you don’t know what a Tough Mudder is it is basically a 10-12 mile obstacle/mud course that you and your team run together. Recently Megan and I participated and you’ll see footage of it on episode 188, thanks to our teammate Carlos’ GoPro footage! You’ll also hear the four biggest lessons I learned from competing. You’ll definitely want to hear those - especially a technique I share that you can use today to make your goals a reality (even if goal-setting hasn’t worked for you in the past). In this episode you’ll hear: Why you have to let people in and ask for help. (2:35) How our mental perception is often worse than reality. (4:50) Are you capable of more than you think you are? (6:20) What is the difference between a goal and a commitment? (8:05) Why integrity matters so much, and how to keep it. (10:45) And so much more! Doing a Tough Mudder was on our Life on Fire list - something I encourage you to do too. Megan and I wrote out 100 things we want to do while living our life on fire, and then each month we do one of those things. We call this a life on fire list which is more positive and inspiring than a bucket list! One of those things on our list was a Tough Mudder, and even though it lived up to its name I’m so glad we did it! Both Megan and I learned so much, and today’s episode is all about my four biggest personal takeaways. 4. Teamwork. Number four is the importance of teamwork. In a Tough Mudder I went through crazy obstacles, obstacles that I never could have completed without the help of my team. There is no way a person can do this thing alone. Just like every aspect of life from career to health to your personal life, you can’t do it and it’s okay to ask for help. The lesson here is don’t try to keep doing things by yourself, especially if you are running a business. Join a mastermind, get a team to support you and help you through the good and the bad. 3. Perception. Coming in at the number 3 spot is perception. The perception I had before doing the Tough Mudder was that the electroshock therapy part of it would be terrible! Based on the Tough Mudder video and my friend’s experience I had the perception that this part of the race would be just awful, but looking back now it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. And don’t you say the same about certain things you’ve done in your life now? Remember that the next time you are faced with a challenge - your perception is making it worse than it will be! 2. You are capable of 10x more than you think you are. One of the purposes of the Tough Mudder is to show you this. When you are going through these crazy obstacles you have to dig deep to keep running. Once you’ve done this in the race you realize you can do more than you thought you could in the rest of your life: you can ask for that promotion, start that new business, etc. 1. Goal-setting. And the number one takeaway from doing a Tough Mudder is goal-setting, specifically why making a commitment is different than setting a goal. Commitments have more power: think of marriage vows: do you make it a goal to stay true to your spouse or do you commit to it? You commit to it of course, it is more powerful. A simple technique I used to achieve our goal of doing a Tough Mudder, and to make it a commitment, was to share it publicly. There’s no way I would’ve stuck to doing the Tough Mudder if I hadn’t done this! I shared it with my Facebook community that I would do a Tough Mudder and I also shared the date by when I would do it. In the mean time I started to get in shape, started training for it. As the date got closer I thought people would’ve forgotten about my commitment to competing in the race, so I considered not doing it. I have a lot of other things I could do with my Saturday, and some other fears started to creep in. But between Megan’s encouragement and my public commitment, I went for it and completed my goal of competing in a Tough Mudder. I believe it’s important to honor your commitments like I did with the Tough Mudder, personally I would’ve lost the respect of many of my clients and my mastermind community. Instead I chose to stay in integrity and have congruence between my words and my actions. The next time you are setting a goal use this technique: share it publicly and watch what happens to your results! You’ll begin to see goals differently too. So why not get what you want out of your own life on fire and share your commitments publicly? Listen to to episode 188 to hear all of that and more, then go share your goals with your Facebook community.
