Since wrapping her 137-episode run on Riverdale about two years ago, Lili Reinhart's been determined to craft a filmography with intention. As she noted during our Collider Ladies Night conversation, she's always been picky about the work she takes on, but in this next stage of her career, her time on Riverdale is giving her the opportunity to say no and only do films and shows “that make sense or speak to me in certain ways,” and she's going to take it.Thus far, that mentality is working in Reinhart's favor big time. This year she celebrated the release of American Sweatshop, a wildly intense and deeply chilling tale of a social media moderator responsible for ridding the internet of the most offensive content, and the toll that job takes on her. That movie, which features a exceptional lead performance from Reinhart is available to buy or rent on digital platforms. Next year the one to keep an eye on is Forbidden Fruits, in which Reinhart plays Apple, the leader of a coven called The Fruits that operates out of a Free People-like store in the mall. With an ensemble that includes Reinhart, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp, and Lola Tung, there's no doubt Forbidden Fruits will make waves when it hits theaters in 2026.But, a very special something you don't have to wait for? Hal & Harper, a limited series that's quietly one of the best new shows of 2026. From the mind of Cha Cha Real Smooth writer, director, and star, Cooper Raiff, Hal & Harper stars Reinhart opposite Raiff as the title brother and sister. Throughout eight episodes, the show explores Hal and Harper's codependent relationship, digging into the benefits of having an impossibly loving and supportive sibling, while also showing how that dynamic is holding them back. In order to do that to the fullest, the show also cuts back to pivotal points in Hal and Harper's childhood, scenes during which Raiff makes the bold decision to have him and Reinhart play the seven and nine-year-old versions of their characters — to great effect.Between American Sweatshop and Hal & Harper, Reinhart doesn't just go two-for-two in 2025, but she starts to lock in the fact that she's an undeniable star, an actor with range that Riverdale only scratched the surface of. Plus, it also proves that that pickiness is paying off. “Where you have maybe 25% control of your career, in that industry, I want to feel that I milked that percentage of what I could control.” So far, so good in that respect. “What makes a TV show truly binge-worthy—and what happens when Hollywood says ‘not so fast'?” That's the question Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray tackle as they break down the LA Times' year-end list of the best TV shows of 2025.At the top of the list? Hal & Harper—a series written, directed, and starring Skin's own nephew, Cooper Raiff. The crew celebrates this massive family win while debating what makes the show so unique, why it's better in small doses, and why the cliffhanger at the end of Episode 3 might be the funniest TV moment of the year.
Sibling duo Hal and Harper are best friends, and have been ever since they lost their mother as children. But is there such a thing as being too close? And when your family is your life raft, what does it look like to let go? Cooper Raiff, the writer, director and star of the TV series HAL & HARPER tells guest host Simran Hans why he had to get Lili Reinhart to play his big sister, and how he summoned his inner 7 year old to play Hal.All episodes of HAL & HARPER are now streaming on MUBI in the US, Latin America and FranceTo stream some of the films we've covered on the podcast, check out the collection Featured on the MUBI Podcast. Cooper Raiff returns to the podcast (first time was Ep. 128) to discuss his latest project, the eight-episode, independently-made, decades-spanning series “Hal & Harper.” He picks up right where we left off in the first interview, 5 years ago, taking us through the process of getting “Cha Cha Real Smooth” made, and how that green light helped him avoid compromising “Hal & Harper.” He explains why no matter what success you've had (like winning top prizes at the biggest festivals for his previous two films) the industry makes you start over and prove each new project's worth. He talks about how the grueling shooting schedule took a toll on his health, what makes Lili Reinhard the perfect Harper, how ignoring good advice paid off, and much more. “Hal & Harper” is streaming now on Mubi. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft. Follow Back To One on Instagram

"Are we losing our ability to form our own opinions—or are we just outsourcing our taste to strangers online?" In this thought-provoking and laugh-packed episode of The Ben and Skin Show, the crew—Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray (with Ben Rogers out sick but expected back Friday)—dive headfirst into the culture of reviews, reactions, and how they shape our experiences before we even have them. The conversation kicks off with a viral clip from Cooper Raiff, Skin's nephew and rising Hollywood filmmaker, who shares his hot take on why reviews should only be read after you've experienced something. His argument? Reviews are killing originality and turning us into carbon copies of each other.

Much to our surprise, Cooper Raiff's "Cha Cha Real Smooth" came out at the beginning of this summer, not sometime last year, and has just been shimmying under the radar as the funny, feel-good coming of age story of an up and coming motivational dancer for the local Bar Mitzvah circuit. There is surprisingly zero cringe and plenty of actressing from Leslie Mann as his nameless mother, Odeya Rush as his hometown hookup and, of course, the Mother of Tears herself Dakota Johnson, who can do no wrong, ask anyone, ask your producer. Plus, some necessary swooning over the multi-talented Raiff and love for Brad Garrett as Stepdad Greg and "Looking" alum Raul Castillo as the surprisingly gentle Joseph. As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis's life, Priscilla Presley.LISTEN NOWInterview with Director Deborah Chow and Actor Hayden Christensen aka Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader of Star Wars Obi-Wan KenobiInterview with Iman Vellani aka Kamala Khan of Ms. MarvelInterview with Cooper Raiff, Director, Writer, Producer, and Actor of Cha Cha Real SmoothInterview with Lightyear Director Angus MacLane, Producer Galyn Susman, and Composer Michael GiacchinoInterview with Lightyear Animators Rob Gennings, Emilie Goulet, and Donald Chan of Pixar Animation StudiosInterview with Directors Adil & Bilall of Ms. MarvelInterview with Akiva Schaffer, Director of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and Member of The Lonely IslandInterview with Sam Raimi and Michael Waldron Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessInterview with Actor Ke Huy Quan of Everything Everywhere All At OnceThe Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent ReviewInterview with Academy Award Winning Director Domee Shi, Producer Lindsey Collins, and Actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of Pixar's Turning RedDaniel on Twitter, Instagram, and LetterboxdShahbaz on Twitter, Instagram, and LetterboxdAnthony on Twitter, Instagram, and LetterboxdThe Movie Podcast on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Discord, and YouTubeRATE US 5 STARS ON SPOTIFY AND APPLE PODCASTS!

"Cha Cha Real Smooth" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, where it received a warm reception and was later picked up by Apple. It is now streaming on AppleTV+ where thousands of people are getting the opportunity to see the acclaimed follow-up film from Cooper Raiff, co-starring Dakota Johnson in what many are calling her best performance to date. Like his directorial debut "Shithouse," Cooper Raiff wrote, directed, acted, and produced the film, imbuing it with his own style and voice, which is clearly speaking to many people. Cooper was kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about the film from multiple sides of production. We hope you enjoy the conversation. Thank you! It's been a while since we did a "counter programming" episode, covering the three movies released this weekend outside of theaters. We opened the show with a topical discussion about Lightyear's weak box office weekend and the overall direction of streaming releases as alternatives to theatrical event movies. Then we slide into our discussion of Spiderhead, a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller, which is now streaming on Netflix. After that, we head over to Apple TV+ for our full review of Cha Cha Real Smooth, which stars Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson. And we finish things out with Good Luck to You Leo Grande, which is now on Hulu and stars Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack. Cooper Raiff's debut film, 2020's "Sh*thouse," put the young writer/director on the map with a tale of collegiate malaise, and was made not long after Raiff himself left college. His follow-up, the new CHA CHA REAL SMOOTH, sees Raiff exploring the existential restlessness that awaits college grads. As with his debut, Raiff is back in a starring role, this time with a legit movie star as his co-star, Dakota Johnson. Adam interviews Raiff, who talks about crying in movies, his mentor Jay Duplass, and why Michael Caine isn't right about everything. And with Buzz currently flying solo in the new "Lightyear," we revisit Adam's TOP 5 STORY STORY MOMENTS (2019) with guest Griffin Newman from the Blank Check podcast. And Adam adds to the praise that has met the latest Netflix Adam Sandler joint, HUSTLE. 0:00 - Billboard 1:24 - Interview: Cooper Raiff ("Cha Cha Real Smooth") 25:01 - Review (AK): "Hustle" 34:37 - Next Week / Notes 44:51 - Polls 54:09 - Top 5: Toy Story Moments w/Griffin Newman 1:50:40 - Outro Learn more about your ad choices.
