Brian Carr is the chief advancement officer for Northwest Assistance Ministries. They currently have a record number of people in need of their services. Homelessness and hunger have become much bigger problems in the past few years. They help people with rent and mortgage assistance and offer learning and vocational training. Brian Carr, MD, discusses results of the Standing Up to Knee Pain: The Physical, Social, and Mental Impact of Knee OA survey, which polled 500 US adults who have been treated for chronic knee pain and/or osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. It found that although 100% of patients have tried some form of treatment to address their pain, a staggering 97% still report that their daily lives are negatively impacted by their condition. The majority (75%) had trouble climbing stairs and exercising, and more than one-half reported that knee pain impaired their overall health and fitness.Also, Physician's Weekly's editorial Board member Alex McDonald, MD, speaks with Dana Corriel, MD, a board-certified internist, entrepreneur & digital strategist. She is the founder of an online platform that works to centralize the efforts of verified health experts (@SoMeDocs). After speaking with soldiers for part 1 and the senior civilian in the Army for part 2, today we’ve got two experts on the show: Brian Carr, an Army lawyer, and Rob Payne, an FBI Special Agent and Colonel in the Army Reserves. This episode’s first guest, Brian Carr is an Army lieutenant colonel from Denton, Texas who commissioned into the Army as an aviator in 2003. Six years later he became an Army lawyer through the Funded Legal Education Program. Today he serves as the Chief of Administrative and Civil Law for the XVIII Airborne Corps. Our second guest, Rob Payne, a Supervisory Special Agent with the FBI since 2008, has investigated and studied soldier radicalization for years. In fact, last year as a resident student at the U.S. Army War College, he completed a strategy research project titled “Radicalization within the Ranks: Countering Military Extremism.” Before the FBI, Robert was commissioned into the Army as an active duty Medical Service Corps Officer in 1999. He transitioned to the Army Reserves in 2003. A DEA Special Agent from 2004 to 2008, he began serving in FBI domestic counterterror missions in 2008. Rob was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Brian Carr is the chief advancement officer for Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM). They are a community-based nonprofit, serving basic human needs to their neighbors. The pandemic has not slowed them down one bit. Their Meals On Wheels plan is going strong and in August and September, NAM served nearly 5,000 families during its 3 food distribution events. And they will be doing it again. They are starting their annual Season of blessings during which they plan to serve over 5200 kids and their families. They will deliver turkey dinners on Thanksgiving and for Christmas, on top of the meal, NAM will give away some 15,000 gifts.
