For the first time, we're going back for seconds! That's right, it's time for a sequel as we go back to our history of Ducati's Desmosedici and take care of our unfinished business. Haven't heard the first part yet? Then quickly go here to change that! So, last time we saw how the incredibly talent of Casey Stoner brought victory to the Italian manufacturer. But nothing last forever, and now we're going to see Ducati take a tumble from the top of the world to one of it's all-time lows. Left without their champion and stuck with a bike even the legendary Doctor can't fix, things are definitely looking grim. The Italians need a change, and they need it yesterday. Luckily, a certain engineer with the nickname Gigi is about to make some suggestions…We hope you enjoy this episode, and cheers!Want more? Visit our website or support us on Patreon. Hey everyone! This week, I'm afraid that Mat and Peter are lost in the late-December limbo. So instead, we're giving all of you a holiday present in the form of a (formerly) Patreon-exclusive post. This interview with Casey was first published in March, and was one of the first things we uploaded exclusively for our subscribers. Like this? Then why not start 2025 with a subscription to our Patreon, and get cool stuff like this on the regular? Trust us – you'll love it! We'll be back with you in 2025, so see you all in the new year! Cheers,Mat, Peter and SamOriginal Patreon description follows below: Mat's been a journalist for longer than our producer's been alive, so he's got quite the archive. For this series we've asked him to pick some of his favourites, and we're kicking things of with the legend himself: Casey Stoner! Mat called Casey to talk about how his riding technique changed over the course of his career, from the 990cc to 800cc and the inevitable 1000cc. Mat: “And oh my god, he's so fucking good at explaining how he rides the thing!"Want more? Visit our website or support us on Patreon.

Moto1Pro y EnduroPro Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 8, 2023 17:22

You know you've made it when you have your own Wikipedia page, PURELY for your own achievements on the track. Welcome to our 400th episode, a special look back at The Doctor, Valentino Rossi, the greatest Motorcycle rider of all-time and oone of the most recognisable athletes in the history of Motorsport. The end of 2021 marked the end of a 26-year career in bike racing that included 432 races, 115 wins, 235 podium finishes, 65 pole positions and of course, 9 World Championships. But there was so much more to Valentino Rossi than that. He essentially saved a fleeting MotoGP in terms of popularity twice in the 2000's. He became a transcendent star who made yellow cool again. He drove Rallys, tested a Formula 1 car, and made the post-race celebration a huge part of Motorsports culture, way before the Shoey became likeable. He was a lovable maverick but also a ruthless competitor. He had some of the greatest rivalries in Motorsport history. Max Biaggi, Jorge Lorenzo, Sete Gibernau, Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez all had to get past the #46 to establish their own legacies. Valentino Rossi was MotoGP, and he'll continue to be long after he retires. This 400th episode is a feature-length, 2 and a half hour retrospective, not only on Rossi's career, but those rivalries, highlights from some of the greatest races in GP history, the brand that still sells over £25m in merchandise to this day, and what his legacy has done to MotoGP as a whole. This special was originally recorded in 2021, but it never left the cutting room shelf until now. We openly admit, the audio isn't perfect, but this was such a good time, we felt compelled to save it. And finally, thank you to our listeners, fans, friends, our wonderful co-hosts RJ O'Connell, Cameron Buckley and Ryan Erik King, all our Patreon backers for supporting us on Episode 400. It's been an 8-year journey and it still makes us all smile being able to do this. You're the best audience in the world, and we're so grateful to each and every one of you. Thank you. Enjoy!

¡En menudo charco me he metido! ¿Me ayudáis?

The final episode of 2021. And it's a big one. Over half an hour of unfiltered Casey Stoner. The two-time MotoGP World Champion came to the paddock for the final two races of 2021, and was kind enough to give us a substantial amount of his time fitting around his understandably busy schedule. In this episode we talk: his entry into the World Championship and how that first year changed his entire outlook on racing, what he thinks of the current crop of MotoGP riders as well as his tips for the future, *hat tip* Pedro Acosta. We also put that classic pub-chat ‘what if?' question to him… what if Marc Marquez and Casey Stoner raced each other? This is not an episode to be missed, plenty to be learned about top flight racing and life from this MotoGP Legend. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

After another victory for Pecco Bagnaia and Ducati, in a race with five Ducatis in the top nine positions, Toby Moody, Simon Patterson and Valentin Khorounzhiy look at what this could mean for the Italian marque's title prospects in 2022. We also explain why it was the correct decision to red flag the Portimao race late on, and look at a rare error from newly-crowned champion Fabio Quartararo. Talking of champions, Casey Stoner was back in the paddock, with plenty to say and a few ideas about how he could stick around more often in the future. Marc Marquez's concussion-enforced absence is discussed, although this episode was recorded before an update on his condition and the news that he would definitely miss this weekend's Valencia event was issued.

Livio Suppo has the remarkable achievement on his CV as a MotoGP team boss of tasting championship glory with two manufacturers. The Italian was the man in charge of Ducati when it decided to enter grand prix racing for 2003, and he took the red bikes through a rollercoaster first few years until everything came good with Casey Stoner in 2007. In the years that followed he would switch to Honda, where he tasted championship success again with Stoner, and then the early years of Marc Marquez's dominance of the series. In this incredible interview, Suppo talks host Toby Moody through his career in great detail, all the way from his early experience in the paddock with Benetton in the 1990s, to the role he played in getting Ducati to make the leap into MotoGP, the gambles taken that led to that first title, what it was like working with Stoner, why he switched to Honda, the emergence of Marquez, what led to his departure from HRC and what he thinks of the Japanese firm's current situation in MotoGP.
