Growing up in a small Christian community, I was judged and rejected for being gay and different. After a futile two year attempt to change who I was born to be, I called myself a human abomination and almost took my own life. Fortunately, in my darkest moment, I saw the light and ventured on a healing journey of love, forgiveness, and spiritual awakening.   Yet, my gay dating life since hasn't always been all roses and rainbows, and my past dramas and traumas have definitely kept things spicy. Fast forward past many awkward dates and disappointing sex, I Created Can't Host to challenge toxic gay stereotypes, explore the complex dynamics of gay sex and relationships, and create opportunities for healing and growth. https://georgelizos.com/   Connect With Me   Instagram: https://instagram.com/georgelizos/ Website: https://georgelizos.com/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@iamgeorgelizos Facebook Group: http://www.yourspiritualtoolkit.com/   My Books   Be The Guru: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1TtCj Lightworkers Gotta Work: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1TmKf Protect Your Light: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1TmJd Secrets of Greek Mysticism: https://l.linklyhq.com/l/1uPvr

#932 - Josh Kear The Josh Kear Interview is featured on The Paul Leslie Hour. Are you here? One of the things we like most about The Paul Leslie Hour is that we can uncover something that went out over the radio years ago and listen to it in the here… and now. People just like you listen to these interviews totally in the present. The present we're in. We're going to give this interview with Grammy award-winning songwriter Josh Kear a spin. Back in 2007, three songs co-written by Kear entered the country charts: “That's How They Do It in Dixie” by Hank Williams, Jr., “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood and “Bama Breeze” by Jimmy Buffett. (Josh wrote the Buffett track with Chris Tompkins and Mark Irwin)  The same year “Before He Cheats” won the Single of the Year Award at the Country Music Association Awards. A few months later, it won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song. It's one of the longest-charting hits in Billboard history. Josh Kear did this interview with Paul Edward Leslie to talk about some of his famous songs and also about “Blue Pearl Paradise,” his somewhat underground album of original island songs. Josh is such a nice guy he sent us the demo of “Bama Breeze” to play and we'll all listen to that together. Before you forget, remember to subscribe to Paul Leslie's YouTube channel and also like this video and leave a comment. You won't want to miss any of our interviews or reviews so ring that bell. Now let's hear from our special guest Josh Kear. Whatdya say? It's time we listened. Together.

After traveling around the world, Chris Tompkins returned to the United States with a dream. He wanted to open a seafood-centric mobile raw bar in California. This would include world-famous oysters and lobster rolls topped with caviar and uni. They first started at the open-air market known as Smorgasburg in LA and quickly amassed a loyal following. So when they opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Malibu people flocked with excitement. It only took a day and a half after opening for Broad Street to sell all of its inventory. To say they were underprepared would be an understatement, but Chris and the team quickly adapted to the new volume. Now, this fan favorite continues to grow at a rapid pace and is soon to open its 5th and 6th locations in San Francisco and Huntington Beach. Today we chat with Chris, the founder of Broad Street Oyster about:

Chris Tompkins knew he was gay at age 6, but things weren't talked about openly in his home so he internalized the idea that it should remain a secret and he grew up ashamed, and hypervigilant. At 24, he came out and jumped into an LGBTQ community that used drugs and alcohol to deal with the internalized shame they'd felt in their own childhoods. Chris eventually moved to LA and he spent the next 11 years working at a gay bar in West Hollywood where the alcohol and drugs played an even bigger part of his life.In LA he began a search for a god that didn't hate him. Chris was deep into his spiritual journey when he found out he was HIV positive and was forced to come out once again into a world full of stigma and old ways of thinking. It was in a decisive moment, staring at himself in the mirror that he couldn't keep his spiritual self and his drug using self afloat any longer and made the choice to end his relationship with drugs and alcohol. Today, Chris is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, life coach, TEDx speaker, and author of the best-selling book, Raising LGBTQ Allies: A Parent's Guide to Changing the Messages from the Playground, which aims to create a world where closets don't exist.Episode ResourcesA Roadtrip to Love | aroadtriptolove.comRaising LGBTQ Allies Book | Raising LGBTQ AlliesConnect with ChrisInstagram | @aroadtriptoloveConnect with The Courage to ChangePodcast Website | lionrock.life/couragetochangepodcastPodcast Instagram | @couragetochange_podcastYouTube | The Courage to Change PodcastTikTok | @ashleyloebblassingamePodcast Email | podcast@lionrock.lifePodcast Facebook | @thecouragetochangepodcastLionrock ResourcesLionrock Life Mobile App | lionrock.life/mobile-appSupport Group Meeting Schedule | lionrock.life/meetings

Recently we read a book called Raising LGBTQ Allies by Chris Tompkins. One of the major concepts that stood out to us was the analogy of a universal playground that we have all experienced. The “playground” is a symbolic metaphor for our minds and the messages we receive reflect dominant societal world views. As children, we absorb conscious and unconscious messages that ultimately shape our beliefs and perspective on the society in which we live. Many adults experience apprehension and discomfort introducing complex concepts like heteronormativity, homophobia, transphobia, etc, to young children. What we often fail to realize is that children are introduced to these concepts whether we discuss them explicitly or choose to remain silent. We have discussed socialization on the podcast before, but Chris' book gives an in-depth explanation as it relates to the LGBTQ community in a thoughtful and digestible manner. Today Chris Tompkins joins us to help us discuss this topic further.Hosted by Malik Seelal, Steve Kramer and Sydney Pinn.Follow us @discriminology_podcast on Instagram, @discriminology3 on Facebook and Twitter.Discriminology is produced by Launchpad 516 Studios.Subscribe to Discriminology on Apple Podcasts and get notified of new episodes: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/discriminology/id1521770510Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/discriminology/donations
