Happy Lost Lands Week! Enjoy a throwback episode from our live series at Lost Lands 2021 with special guest Funtcase. Producer and DJ from Bournemouth, UK, FuntCase aka James Hazell is known for his raw and dirty sound, forging the way with his controversial ‘filthy' style. “FuntCase produces sensory overload bass music that wobbles, womps and machine guns through your body, making you dance whether you want to or not.” James first expressed his love of music through jamming with his schoolmates, taking his energetic and aggressive drumming style from death metal as well as being heavily influenced by happy hardcore and jungle, growing up to a background of Helter Skelter and Dreamscape mixtapes. In 2009 James began to dabble with producing dubstep, giving his tunes a big energy by incorporating the drum and bass layering technique into his dubstep sound. His first track ‘Make Our Day' was quickly signed to 4:20 Records. And so began the raw sound that is FuntCase. It wasn't long before FuntCase began trading tracks with Doctor P, and an offer soon followed to bring James into the Circus Records camp with the release of his famed track ‘So Vexed', with ‘Mattress Punch' on the flip, in 2010. Since then the phenomenon has grown, FuntCase has become a legend of the DJ world. With an incredibly loyal fan base Funty is known worldwide for working hard, playing hard, travelling hard – and DJing hard on stages globally. Over the years, championing other artists in the scene with his DPMO compilation albums and expanding the brand into its very own clothing line, it was a natural progression for FuntCase to head up his own imprint label falling under the DPMO brand. The first release, “Corruption EP” gave us a glimpse at what's in store for his label as well as showing no signs of FuntCase slowing down when it comes to releasing neck breaking new music guaranteed to open up a pit where ever it's played. Better known by his musical alias DMVU, Denver based producer Matthew Phillpot-Jones continues to etch his own indelible mark into the future of electronic music.  From a young age, Jones' always displayed an unmistakable inclination towards music. An only child of two musically gifted parents, Jones grew up in an environment in which he was constantly exposed to a diverse selection of music, and quickly learned to play the piano and drums very early on in his adolescent years. Infatuated by the hip hop culture of the late 90s and early 2000s, Jones traded in the drumsticks for a copy of FL Studio, hoping to test his hand at emulating the beats that were so instrumental during his teenage years.  Citing unmistakable influence derived from the rich underground dance music scene native to Colorado, Jones soon graduated from hip-hop and redirected his artistic focus on producing bass music - a critical turning point in his ascent that ended up proving to be pivotal in the project's life cycle.  After the project's inception in 2015, it didn't take long before Jones' began to see the fruits of his labor.  In late 2016, Jones' received the co-sign of dubstep legends TRUTH, releasing the ‘Bloccd EP' on their Deep Dark & Dangerous imprint.  The title track from that release, Bloccd, instantly made waves across the dance music genre and became a festival circuit anthem moving into the Summer of 2017.  Among the acclaim gained from the Bloccd release was recognition from Circus Records label heads Doctor P and Flux Pavillion, resulting in Jones becoming the first North American producer to ever release on the London based label. While continuing to release his regular share of dancefloor bangers across labels such as Wakaan, DMVU quietly directed his attention to a new creative endeavor - writing his first solo studio album.  These efforts culminated in Two Pairs of Eyes, Gazing Only at Each Other, released on Dome of Doom in April 2020.  This body of work served as a testament to Jones true artistic range as a producer, showcasing an introspective, delicate side of him that was seldom reflected in previous releases.  Continuing to push the boundaries of his creativity, Jones released Praise Be Delusion or, The Ripple in 2021, an important continuation of the cinematic sound Jones established in the previous year.  The album received recognition at the highest level of music achievement, being nominated to the first round ballot for Dance Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Moving into the future, Jones continually strives to perpetually embody the core pillar of the DMVU project: risk taking.  While Jones has repeatedly displayed his natural ability to produce at both ends of the dance spectrum, his next goal is working towards bridging the gap between the two. As Jones continues to work tirelessly towards the completion of his next album, he remains excited about why he started producing music in the first place: sharing the music that he loves with the world. Native to Greensboro, NC, but currently settled in Denver, CO, Mike Hayes has gravitated towards an innate musical influence since an early age. From playing a range of instruments to writing music, production instinctively came next in his individual progression, leading to the emergence of the HEYZ project. Promptly garnering interest in his palatable dance floor techno from top labels such as deadmau5's mau5trap following his introduction to the electronic scene in 2018, HEYZ eventually began leaning into a more bass-heavy approach. Comfortably finding his footing in unfamiliar territory, HEYZ' avant-garde take on bass music immediately cemented its rightful place, quickly attracting attention from all quarters of the community. Narrowly bordering the line between a contemporary and nostalgia-inducing sound, HEYZ has since released on a number of critically acclaimed labels, including Circus Records, Bite This, Lowly, and Deadbeats, only further confirming his natural ability to appeal to a wide scope of audiences. Hand in hand with his skyward trajectory, HEYZ has also built an increasingly substantial fanbase through alternative channels such as TikTok, where he predominantly broadcasts his likable comedic personality. Firm in his whimsical ideology, he translates this seamlessly to the musical realm through his growing discography and live settings. With performances at large scale festivals across the nation among the likes of Electric Zoo, Imagine Music Festival, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and many more, HEYZ remains steadfast in his endeavors, proving his longevity in the dance arena.    To listen, visit: https://bit.ly/3Oj83Gx This episode was brought to you by VitaPlur & Lunchbox Packs. Anita Rojo donned the Green Matter alias in 2019, after several years of cultivating a love ofbass music. This fiery passion was first sparked in 2012, when her sister took her to a Skrillexperformance. Ever since, Roja immersed herself into the bass music scene as a fan, but sheeventually grew a desire to contribute more to the community. She then dove headfirst into DAWs and dubstep production, finding her creative calling with the Green Matter project. The Latina artist shines unforgettably bright among the Denver, CO bass music scene. Green Matter stands as a bright neon bastion about the rest, attracting bass music fans of all genres. Her sound cross-pollinates the nostalgia of earlier dubstep and the constant innovation ofmodern bass production. Such talent impressed Circus Records, prompting them to release herremix of Conrank's “Simulation Breach.” Indeed, at just 21 years old, Green Matter found herplace within the densely saturated Denver scene and developed a sound to flatten the Rockies.Although she mingles with a fanbase of “Earthlings,” her live performances are interstellar. With the return of shows, she shattered speakers and expectations with her performance at Mission Ballroom alongside Bear Grillz. Not only that, but Green Matter eviscerated the Wakaan takeover in Denver, blasting bass with heavyweights including Redrum and fellow Electric Hawk artist, Common Creation. After winning the 2022 Excision Bass Music Initiative, Green Matter plans to abduct more Earthlings and rattle the Gorge with her Bass Canyon set. Jockstrap, Flux Pavilion and Mala discuss writing music on games consoles, passing the baton between each other in collaboration, music connecting in the right time and place, and hearing your songs in a club. Jockstrap are Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye, a duo from London who are changing the indie world with their genre-bending debut album I Love You Jennifer B. The pair met when Georgia was studying jazz and spotted Taylor wearing tartan pyjamas on his way to do his laundry. They meld together a kaleidoscopic blend of pop, disco, jazz, dubstep, with classical influences, impressionistic lyrics, and lush melodies. For more than a decade, electronic producer and dubstep trailblazer Josh Steele, aka Flux Pavilion, pioneered new bass sounds for the dancefloor, before co-founding the influential Circus Records label. He's now in a new era of productivity, using analog synth-driven melodies to create new soundscapes. Pioneering dance music producer and DJ Mark Lawrence, aka Mala, changed UK dance music forever with the creation of dubstep, slowing down the tempo, increasing the snap of the percussion, and adding shelf-wobbling, ear-splitting bass to the music. He's also the co-founder of production duo Digital Mystikz.

The South Bay Los Angeles native on everyone's mind and soul has carefully disrupted modern musicality as we know it. With what can only be described as a violently-beautiful display of deeply-primal introspection, the evolution of this artist's technical prowess is personified by high-energy bass lines and a monstrous ear for drum synthesis. Cut surgically by the treacherous molds of the deepest underground framework, this maniacal maverick of sound and bass has carefully carved his name into the walls of dubstep's bloodline, and he's here to stay. Rejuvenating a creative landscape when listeners truly need it most, the export of one of California's finest producers has quickly reached international territories with unapologetic success. With massive support by some of dubstep's founding figureheads such as Funtcase, Cookie Monsta, Excision, and many more, this prodigy of production has harmoniously bound the veins of the underground with a new generation of super fans. As we near the end of one of mankind's most convoluted eras lined by death and distraught, one thing can be absolutely certain. The world needs this now, more than ever. Reconstructing the ethereal soundscape surrounding him, SweetTooth has championed millions of plays through a plethora of heavyweight releases on Circus Records, DPMO, and many more groundbreaking labels. Engineering an ominous cohesion of calculated chaos, this boundary-breaking powerhouse has taken the world's attention by storm. As we turn the page to the final chapter of Earth's unavoidable descension, this musical mastermind's story has only just begun. Episode 16 This week sees the UK based duo Duke & Jones stop by for an interview and huge guest mix jam packed full of originals and wall slapping goodness. Duke & Jones are ushering in a new wave of electronic forward-thinkers, & they're positioned to push a blend of hip-hop, trap, & house into exciting new directions. Among the UK's brightest new exports, the 24-year-old Manchester duo are creating a deep catalog of primal, earthy productions, all wrapped in a spine-tingling minimalist aesthetic – the duo's signature sound can best be described as "less is more." They emerged on the scene quickly, & it didn't take long to catch the attention of electronic music's biggest power players, like Marshmello, DJ Snake, & Diplo. The pair's meteoric rise found their fearless sonics landing on some of today's most elite labels, including Interscope, Deadbeats, & Circus Records. Duke & Jones' come up wasn't quiet — they caught the ears of dance music's top dogs and leading labels, and almost instantly had the entire industry abuzz from Billboard to talent buyers, all eager for what the pair have up next. Starting out strictly in the studio, building a brimming index of bold dance pieces, the gifted wunderkinds have too much material now to keep behind the console. Just a short trip from home, the young DJs live debut comes full circle to London's legendary Ministry of Sound in September 2018. Duke & Jones are bringing their exploratory, textured sound to the masses, but they won't be satisfied with just chart domination or club circuit acclaim — their aspirations aim much higher. Duke & Jones are dead set on blazing new trails and blurring old boundaries, and they're off to a staggering start already.

A producer and DJ from Bournemouth, UK, FuntCase (AKA James Hazell) is known for his raw and dirty sound, forging the way with his controversial “filthy” style. James first expressed his love of music through jamming with his schoolmates, taking his energetic and aggressive drumming style from death metal. He was also heavily influenced by happy hardcore and jungle, growing up to a background of Helter Skelter and Dreamscape mixtapes. After hearing “Bandwagon Blues” by Twisted Individual, James fell in love with the drum and bass sound and began to focus his talents on producing. Sharing his tracks with D&B radio stations led to the first recognition of his foot-thumping talents, and under the alias DJ Dose he released for the first time in 2007. In 2009 James began to dabble with producing dubstep, and gave his tunes a unique energy by incorporating the drum and bass layering technique into his dubstep sound. His first track “Make Our Day” was quickly signed to 4:20 Records, and the raw sound that is FuntCase had begun. It wasn't long before FuntCase began trading tracks with Doctor P, and an offer soon followed to bring James into the Circus Records camp with the release of his famed track “So Vexed' in 2010. Since then, FuntCase has become a legend of the DJ world. With an incredibly loyal fan base Funty is known worldwide for working hard, playing hard, traveling hard, and DJing hard on stages globally. ------------------ Tracklist: 1. Bio Unhindered by the constraints of a particular genre, Fox Stevenson pushes against imposed limitations. Growing up in an artistic environment, with a musician, writer, and theater director for a father, Fox didn't need much prodding to explore art from the inside-out. Laying down his tracks from scratch, he will also write and perform his own vocals. As a live musician, he is unafraid to pick up the guitar, drums, bass, or mix a live DJ set on stage. The casual listener is immediately struck by the emotional pith and complex narrative structures of his songs. Most dance song lyrics are throwaway, but Fox's tracks are genuine, space-creating oddities of a new generation. They are indebted to the old singer-songwriters of the past, while also challenging traditional expectations for beat-based, electronic music. In a world that often prefers we choose ‘one or the other', Fox is one of the few willing to balance and create a free-flowing tri-force of dance, pop, and rock in his music. A rare master of the live and digital, he is always experimenting and improving on his own structural artifices. “There is no best way,” he says, “that I would prefer to learn. When someone tries to tell me the ‘best' way of compressing a snare, I prefer to learn it myself, because otherwise I would never try and go outside of that.” Keeping true to this spirit—to his own standards—he has been performing under the alias Fox Stevenson, reflecting his maturing growth as an artist, and culminating in the release of his first EP, Endless, with Firepower Records. Following his debut EP, Fox released songs on Spinnin' Records, Circus Records, Firepower Records, and on his own record label Cloudhead Records. With six Beatport #1 Releases under his name, in 2016, Fox Stevenson partnered with powerful bass music taste-making label, Disciple, while continuing close ties with Spinnin' Records for house/electro music. Be on the lookout for Fox Stevenson as he gets his music out to a wider audience, ups the ante with world-tours, produces in more sophisticated studios, and hosts a plethora of collaborations with other artists—as he tries simply, in his own words, “to be better and better.” Tracklist Fox Stevenson - ID Shakecraft - Patchy Ft. Any true fan of electronic music should instantly recognize Doctor P as one of the original godfathers of modern bass-driven music. A true music lover at heart, Doctor P, aka Shaun Brockhurst, has had an intense love of music since he was just a teenager jamming with his friends on drums and guitar.   Doctor P is what you might label as a triple threat since his talent can be found in the roles he effortlessly balances as a musician, producer, and DJ. He also founded Circus Records with long time friend Flux Pavilion.   Shaun began to professionally create tracks in 2007, predominantly Drum and Bass but always experimented across all styles. He had some early releases signed up but things didn¹t get serious until he formed Slum Dogz with DJ Swan E and signed to Maximum Boost Management.   Immersed in experimenting with new sounds Shaun fell for the then emerging sub-genre of more energetic bass-driven dubstep, with tracks like Rusko's ‘Cockney Thug'. He was inspired to try his hand at making a few dubstep tunes in the same vein, and created the joyous and body-popping ‘Gargoyle', shortly followed by the blindsiding ‘Badman Sound' (Dub Police) which were quickly picked up by Rusko and other DJs. To reflect his new sound, Shaun became Doctor P.   When he posted his new track ‘Sweet Shop' on his MySpace to test for interest, little was Doctor P to know that this was to change the course of bass music history and inspire a whole new generation of electronic fans. ‘Sweet Shop' quickly became a staple part of just about every DJ's set, from junglist to house, it became an anthem for every floor. The track was one of the first releases on Circus and helped make it one of the forging labels of EDM.   Since that first release, Doctor P has continued to grow with releases including ‘Superbad' with label protégé Flux Pavilion, ‘Music is Dead' with Dillion Francis, 2013 smash ‘The Pit' with Adam F featuring hip hop royalty Method Man and Mixmag free download ‘Shishkabob' plus 2014 summer smash ‘Going Gorillas' which was given a triple bass VIP remix earlier this year. Collaborating with P Money and having remixed for Plan B, Example, Datsik, Dan le Sac vs Scrubius Pip and Blame amongst others, Doctor P is making a name for himself as a go-to remixer.     Shaun continues to develop Circus Records and his own career in a recorded and live sense having played globally recognized stages at Ultra Music Week, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrow World, Pukkelpop, the main dance stage at Daur Festival plus MysteryLand and legendary Global Dance Fest at Red Rocks in Colorado.
