For the Ninth episode of There Is No Planet Earth Stories I'm joined by guest Tommie Sunshine representing stories from Chicago, Atlanta, New York."Tastemaker to tastemakers, curator and shapeshifter, Tommie Sunshine is renowned for his reputation of being consistently ahead of the curve bridging the worlds of Rave, Disco, Tech House, and House while still standing firmly in the zeitgeist. Establishing his name as a fixture throughout the American Rave scene during the '90s, he became one of the most recognizable figures of the Electroclash movement during the early 2000s, his Rock & Pop remixes made him a key figure in the Blog House scene ('06-'09) and helped set the stage for the EDM boom of the 2010s. 31 years as a DJ and 37 years as a clubber gives Sunshine his unique perspective on the business & informs his present Rave Revival sound.Set apart by his iconoclastic productions, he is regarded as one of today!s most prolific remixers providing club-ready makeovers for countless household names, including Billie Eilish, Bob Marley, Katy Perry, Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Kim Petras, Nicki Minaj, Rosalía, Dua Lipa, Sofi Tukker, Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Presley, Lizzo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kelly Clarkson, Major Lazer, Santana, and Fall Out Boy. Tommie"s original production career spans collaborations with artists such as Oscar nominated and Grammy winner Junkie XL, Chocolate Puma, Grammy winner James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, legendary producer Arthur Baker, House Music pioneer Felix da Housecat, Peaches, The Disco Fries, and many more. His music has been released on all of the biggest Dance labels in the world including Spinnin!, Ultra, Armada, Musical Freedom, Heldeep, Size, Revealed, Mixmash, Dim Mak, and Mad Decent amongst others. On Spotify alone his original production has reached 26 million listeners & 127 million streams. Tommie also wrote and recorded 9 tracks for several editions of Konami!s classic arcade game Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). Now well beyond its 600th release, his label Brooklyn Fire provides a platform to young producers just getting started in the business giving their music mass exposure, DJ support from the biggest in the game & streams into the millions.Whether as a Producer, DJ or Artist, Tommie brings a unique enthusiasm to his craft; fueled by his encyclopedic (if not obsessive) knowledge of Underground and Pop music spanning the last half-century. His TV show After The Raves on Netflix took him around the world speaking intimately with Fatboy Slim, Solardo, Hardwell and Paul Oakenfold, and his deep musical knowledge and outspoken views have landed him airtime on numerous talk shows and radio programs. Sunshine, also known as a social media provocateur, has been known to cause an uproar in his firm stance on many issues most won't dare talk about & his activism has landed him on TMZ for gun control. Tommie served as an entertainment surrogate for the 2016 & 2020 Presidential campaigns of Bernie Sanders. He served 3 semesters and counting as adjunct professor at NYU - Tisch School Of The Arts - Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music & serves the Recording Academy as a voting member of the Grammys."Support the show

A Funky House Journey Through Musical Masterpieces Transitioning smoothly, we dive into "Your Heaven" by Mother of Pearl featuring Pearl Mae, a track that epitomizes the uplifting spirit of Funky House. This is quickly followed by Mike Newman's "Things I Do", which intriguingly blends a Robin S-like sound with lyrics from the Commodores' 1977 hit "Easy", creating an uplifting vibe. In a seamless transition, we experience Word of Mouth UK's creative mashup of Aretha Franklin's "A Deeper Love (Pride)" with Paul Johnson's "Get Get Down". Hope everyone is having a great holiday season so far and that you are ready for one hell of an interview. It is my honor to have legendary DJ/Producer LA Riots on for his 1st SITB! Daniel and I caught up last week and had an amazing conversation that I'm really excited to share with you. In 217 we discussed: Journey Into Music: Daniel has been around the world and has a very unique life story. He was born in New Zealand but grew up in North Carolina and always loved music. He fell in love with drum n bass and started pursuing a career as a DJ. He eventually made his way out to LA where he spent a bulk of his life. LA Riots was born in the early 2000's and since then he's grown to become a household name in electronic music. Discography: Throughout the interview, we touched on the evolution of his sound and how many different foundational influences still play a huge part in his current style. LA Riots has put out music on some of the world's most recognized labels like Dim Mak, Musical Freedom, Realm, Spinnin' and Hood Politics - just to name a few. We got the backstory on tracks like "House Philosophy", "I Call That Love", and "I Promise You" which was sooo much fun to hear. Amazing producer Life nowadays: Daniel moved to Bali last year and has taken a different approach to life and music - his only goal is to be happy. He spends most of his days surfing and is living life to the absolute fullest. He's been in the music industry for a long time and it was refreshing to hear his perspective on what really matters in and outside of this rat race. We also got the backstory on a documentary that he's been working on called "Amen Brother" which shines a light on a mixed race band called "The Winstons" whose track has been sampled by thousands of artists without ever being compensated. Cannot wait for this to come out. We've been trying to line up this interview for quite some time and I'm so glad we made it happen! Thank you so much for making the time to come on my friend and I'm looking forward to connecting with you again soon. Let's get into it right now so you can hear his full story for yourselves - this is episode 217 with LA Riots

Episode 12: 'Brothers In Arms' by Dire Straits'Mark's Latest Trick'Mark Knopfler's ability to understand the true meaning of Rock 'N' Roll shines ever brighter with what would be Dire Strait's penultimate album. In the mid 80s, where technology was advancing, popular music becoming more electronic and the breakthrough of MTV as a platform for said Pop Music, Mark and Dire Straits were able to bridge the gap between traditional Rock 'N' Roll and 80s Pop - resulting in one of the most well known guitar riffs of all time, songs written by a virtuoso Guitar player with almost no guitar solos in and an album that really does preach our Rock 'N' Roll mantra: Musical Freedom.LONG LIVE ROCK ‘N' ROLL!- Follow the Podcast on Social Media: https://linktr.ee/longlivernrpod- Get in touch and/or leave us a review: longliverocknrollpodcast@gmail.com- Episode 12 Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0UJjHvWHSmpAvVu20T4yz0?si=e796dae05b1642fc- Music by GeriArt, NaturesEye, astrofreq, Twisterium from Pixabay- Artwork by Ross Davidson

Toni Menage has a career most aspiring singers envy. She's toured the world with Lisa-Lisa Cult Jam, sang with and was produced by the legendary Stevie Wonder, and performed on legendary television shows including Soul Train, The Grammy's The Arsenio Hall Show, and many others. But her path to get there was not as full of rainbows as you might think. Andy and Toni discuss what it's like to grow up as an up and coming singer in the projects of Harlem, and how she first got noticed by a producer when she was in just 7th grade and had a hit song on the radio! For Toni, there were plenty of big star-struck moments, as well as a few regrettable ones too, as she recollects in this week's podcast. Listen to the full interview to hear about Toni's upbringing in the music business, what she wishes she knew then that she knows now, how her consulting business gives other up and coming singers all the tools to succeed in the industry, and who her true inspirations are. DJ Marlon Flohr and producer Ralph van Hilst, who together form Bassjackers, are perfectly in sync as a duo. Marlon is the wild one, rocking each and every stage they play, and Ralph is more cool and collected, preferring to shine behind the scenes on the producer seat. Their opposing personalities are a perfect combination for this unique one DJ-one producer collaboration. The duo exploded onto the scene in 2011 and their dance hit “Mush Mush” was picked up by Tiësto and released on his label Musical Freedom. Bio Merk & Kremont (Fede and Joe) first met in Fede's basement in their home town of Milan. They started talking music, soon realizing they had the same vision, and started working together on a series of bootlegs all the way to their first successful original production, Tundra, in 2013. The Italian duo's musical influences range from Daft Punk to Fedde Le Grand, and the great House classics – and although Joe started out producing Hip-Hop beats whilst Fede was more into Pop– they found the perfect combination of ingredients to develop what is now recognized as their unique sound. A sound that has been described as “grinding ‘n' groovy”. Merk & Kremont have received support from huge acts such as Avicii Steve Angello, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Benny Benassi and many more. They've been unleashing massive club hits for almost two years now and they still have plenty of ammo to shoot for the future. Their tracks have featured on labels like Flamingo, Protocol, Size, Premiere, Revealed, Ultra and Spinnin' and their remix of “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit reached 1M downloads on Soundcloud, played by hundreds of djs all over the world. The hit 'Get Get Down' – out on Spininnin Records - is something of a viral phenomenon thanks also to its insanely entertaining video and its their first track to enter the Beatport chart in the top 10. BIO As dance music tends to deliver younger bright stars every year, here's a prodigy the world surely will be talking about. 17-year old DJ/producer Curbi isn't even new to the game, he has already making tunes for a couple of years now. For sure, he's the talk of the town, early 2015, after signing a deal with Spinnin' Records and MusicAllStars management at the tender age of sixteen. But the signs were all there; a young lad from Essex, UK, making music in his bedroom, breaking borders as he created a house sound of his own. After Dutch tastemaker Oliver Heldens got hold of his track 'Discharge', it didn't take long for Curbi to get signed to Heldens' home label Spinnin' Records. The story is enchanting. 'Discharge' getting hundreds of thousands SoundCloud plays in mere days, getting picked up by the biggest DJs out there, remaining in the Top 10 of Beatport's main chart for 28 days (!) while the video is now counting over 2 million Youtube views and over 2.5 million SoundCloud plays. Not bad for a debut, the buzz around Curbi is only becoming larger by the day. After releasing his first mixtape early June, which scored 125,000 plays within a week, his second single 'Rubber' comes out on Spinnin' Records. And surely, this is a worthy follow-up, a gem for the clubs, including Curbi's characteristic raw bass lines, adding tension with some deep synth chords creeping up on you during the breakdown. Pete Tong can't wait to premier it in his BBC radio show, while artists like Diplo, Oliver Heldens, Martin Solveig, David Guetta, Michael Calfan as well as Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike give it full support. Genre crossing, you could say, which is exactly what Curbi does with his bass heavy house music - his sound hits a nerve everywhere. Summer 2015 also sees Curbi make his DJ debut, playing at Martin Solveig's event My House in Pacha Ibiza - not bad for a show debut. After that, the young Brit sets on doing more performances, while also venturing into some collabs, releasing the exciting club tune 'Hoohah' together with fellow Brit Fox Stevenson (a track getting picked up by jocks like Hardwell, Diplo and Showtek), followed in October by the release of 'Butterfly Effect', a collab with Dutch duo Bougenvilla. In short, Curbi is going through a rollercoaster ride in 2015, concluded with a personal 'thank you' to his fans when he releases the free downloadable 'Fraternité EP', including three full tracks by the youngster. 2016 sees Curbi continue living up to all the promises. His first release '51' already meets widespread DJ support (including Hardwell, Calvin Harris, Oliver Heldens, R3hab and Porter Robinson) before it's officially released, reaching #2 on Beatport's Electro House chart. The follow-up to this, the mighty club tune 'Triple Six', Curbi's first release on Tiësto's label Musical Freedom, reaches the same height, getting support from the label boss as well as DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Oliver Heldens, Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix. May 2016 also sees Curbi play his first show in his home country, performing at the DOORN Records Label Night in London, while the young Brit also gears up to play key events across Europe in summer 2016, including Creamfields, Amnesia Ibiza, Myseryland and Parookaville. Cutting through the masses of young electronic music producers like a knife through butter, J-Trick has quickly risen to the top with a consistent flow of quality productions, DJ sets and stage presence. Don't take our word for it though, with a support base that includes Tiesto, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Hardwell, Zedd, Steve Aoki & Martin Garrix to name a few it is very apparent that this young gun has got the skills. With a sound firmly planted in the realms of club driven Electro, J-Trick has already gained enormous success well beyond his years. Not many people can hold acclaim to having their track edited by the Worlds #1 DJ Hardwell, followed by a #1 overall Beatport ranking, however this is a reality for J-Trick. His first release on the Revealed records imprint was closely followed by a signing to Tiesto's label Musical Freedom which again achieved great success on the charts hitting #2 on Beatport. A string of remixes & originals on labels such as Armada, Dim Mak & OWSLA closely followed, once again gaining support from the biggest names in the industry. As if juggling tireless hours in the studio, holding down coveted residencies across Australia and touring the globe wasn't enough, the motivated and driven youngster is the head honcho at Club Cartel Records. Dedicated to delivering only high quality releases since mid 2011, this label spearheaded by J-Trick has already received plenty of international support and has been the home ground for the likes of Deorro, Uberjak'd, Will Sparks, Reece Low and more. This is a testament to not only J-Trick's skills as a producer but also his knack for knowing what makes a great record. With his upcoming overseas tours and collaborations with some of the biggest names in dance music, its evident that this is just the beginning for J-Trick! Tracklist: 1. Lissie (Disco Fries Remix) 17 Ramin Djawadi - Game of Thrones Theme (Armin Van Buuren Remix) Bio: The Disco Fries are an American production duo, consisting of Nick Ditri and Danny Boselovic. In late Fall of 2007, the duo started making music together as roommates at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. From the beginning, Nick & Danny have consistently blurred the lines between genres and managed to create a unique balance between big-room classical melodies and their signature blown out basslines. Their music has been supported by some of the biggest names in EDM such as Tiesto, Hardwell, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, and R3hab. Their presence in the blogosphere is equally as impressive with features in Dancing Astronaut, This Song Is Sick, & Gotta Dance Dirty. Additionally, the duo has hit the Hypem Popular Chart #1 spot multiple times with both their original productions and remixes. 2013 was a big year for the Disco Fries, which began by being named one of VIBE Magazine's "30 DJs to Watch in 2013." Their buzz continued to grow when they released their track, "Lose It," which was premiered by Tiesto during his set at Electric Zoo in NYC. His support led to a working relationship that flourished through the latter part of the year, culminating in their first official collaboration, "iTrance." Released in October of 2013 in celebration of Tiesto receiving the DJ Mag & KLM DJ Legend Award, the free download saw critical acclaim, was supported by Above & Beyond, and was embraced by fans old and new. Following the success of "iTrance," the Fries released their first track on Tiesto's Musical Freedom, "Philtrum." Applauded for its creative and unique sound, the record cemented the duo's position as a production powerhouse who isn't afraid to think outside of the box. Not content with just releasing their own music, the Disco Fries started their own imprint, "Liftoff Recordings," to nuture up-and-coming talent, giving them a platform to grow. With only a few releases under its belt, the young label has been well received and continues to grow in support with each new record. To reinforce the label's vision, the Fries launched their monthly "Liftoff Radio" show to highlight this young talent. With scheduled releases in 2014 on Zouk, Musical Freedom, and Ultra, the Disco Fries are making the music they want to make and the world seems to be taking note. "We're always looking to push ourselves to explore new sounds. We want to keep making music that we enjoy sharing with people and people enjoy hearing. The party never ends for us." - The Disco Fries Socials:www.DiscoFriesMusic.com www.facebook.com/TheDiscoFries www.soundcloud.com/thediscofries www.twitter.com/thediscofries www.youtube.com/thediscofries
