In just a couple of years, the American has become an absolute mainstay on labels like Drumcode, Machine, and We Are The Brave. Now he offers up ‘In My Mind', a widescreen artistic statement across 13 immersive tracks. ‘In My Mind' is an accomplished and adventurous album that takes melodic techno in bold new directions. “One of the biggest problems that we have in the world today is that we've devalued music to, it's basically free. And, you know, I keep seeing these articles like, well, ‘what if Spotify charged you $14.99 a month?' That isn't going to fix the problem. Getting another billion dollars in the system so that Universal or Sony can get another $800 million into their coffer... it's not going to the artists.” – Randy Sosin This episode's guest is a groundbreaking filmmaker who has been at the helm of some of the most important music videos, concert films, and livestream events, driving the sales of millions of albums, downloads, streams, and concert tickets. From Eminem to Pink Floyd, from Sarah Silverman to the Electric Daisy Carnival, he has been at the forefront of music visual storytelling for over twenty-five years. He's currently focused on Music and Entertainment blockchain projects: he's a blockchain Shaman and can help anyone understand and embrace the new Web 3.0 reality. His name is Randy Sosin, and this discussion will definitely be looking to the future. What's new under the sun for musicians, and for all of us who appreciate good art when it comes to sound? What does Randy recommend and what does the future look like to him? Listen in to find out.As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. If you have questions for me, visit www.audiobrandingpodcast.com where you'll find a lot of ways to get in touch. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available. And if you're getting some value from listening, feel free to spread that around and share it with a friend, along with leaving an honest review. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that. A Changing IndustryAs our conversation starts, Randy tells us about his early memories of sound. “I remember the first time hearing the Beatles,” he says, “and that was something that really changed my life. You know, like, just the sound that came out of the radio, the harmony, and the whole thing.” We go on to talk about the music industry and the changes the digital age has brought about, and how those changes sometimes don't get as much attention as they should. “Oh, you'll see articles like vinyl outsold CDs,” Randy tells us. “and that may be true. Vinyl may have outsold CDs in 2022, but if you go back to 1985, there were hundreds of millions of units sold. Now you're talking about a million units sold.” The Music of MySpaceRandy tells us about social media's current role in brand promotion, and how blockchain technology can help cut out the middleman between bands and their audience. “All that data and all that information goes to the other platforms,” he explains. “You can use it and you hope your algorithm works, but coming soon will be the direct-to-consumer where they'll be able to connect to you directly in your world.” We also talk about how MTV once held, and then lost, the cultural influence that social media now holds, and how today's platforms haven't focused on music the way MySpace once did. “And it was, people loved it, you know?” he says. “But then it's gone away. I'm shocked that there is, I guess TikTok is what people say to me, but it's not necessarily about music.” Moving Beyond RoyaltiesWe discuss the challenges of making money as a musician in the digital era, and how utilizing the blockchain can ensure that the artists are being rewarded

It was a long week when our fearless leader EstoBro came down with a cold, and it was even worse that it happened over his birthday (2:00), which he does not necessarily wish anyone experiences at all. His co-host TV had all the sympathy for him, but their shared birthday celebration could only mean one thing: that summer is here and the Gents are ready to party! One thing EstoBro was fortunate to enjoy for his birthday celebrations was the release of the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (9:00), the latest installment of the popular Nintendo RPG series. The celebrated sequel of Breath of the Wild has taken the video game world by storm and has already sealed itself as an automatic phenomenon in the mystical adventure. After acknowledging the hectic weekend of the Electric Daisy Carnival, the Gents are only weeks away from EstoBro's bachelor party with going to Bonnaroo (28:30), and they can barely contain their excitement. The Gents were also shocked to see that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was upset by Fast X (37:00), the recent release of the Fast and Furious franchise; and it is safe to assume that they're not finished with that franchise anytime soon. With the small focus turned to sports, TV is hyped to celebrate that the Miami Heat are very close to returning to the NBA Finals (44:30), and gives the tip of the hat to Michael Block being an amateur at the PGA Championship that hit a hole-in-one. Finally, EstoBro wants to celebrate this year's issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition which features Martha Stewart on the cover (60:00). Who knew that America's favorite homemaker would turn into America's favorite GILF? Be sure to have a safe Memorial Day weekend and for all of our Florida listeners, start preparing your hurricane season safety plans because that follows right after the holiday. Ekali's Breakthrough: From Sleeping in the Van to Sampling Drake. SUMMARY Aaron Della Vedova chats with Nathan Shaw, known as Ekali, who is a music producer, DJ, and EDM trap-style artist. Ekali has worked with heavy hitters from his first song out of the gate which was picked up by Drake. He has worked with Skrillex, Zoo, and Wafia, to name a few. His journey to get to the top of the food chain in the music industry and that first confidence boost he got when Drake sampled one of his songs. Ekali's love of music started at a young age in Vancouver, Canada. When he was in elementary school a special teacher, Ms. Tomlinson, gifted him a violin that changed his life forever. In high school, he struggled academically and eventually dropped out to pursue music full-time. He joined a band but eventually felt creatively unsatisfied only playing bass. In the early 2000s, electronic music began to gain popularity, especially in America. This is when the protagonist began to get interested in EDM and started making his own music. His first song was Unfaith, which Drake and Party Next Door sampled, giving him his first big break. He eventually hired an agent in Europe and went on four or five full European tours before becoming a well-known sought-after DJ and producer in America. But it hasn't all been easy, fun, or pretty. Ekali gets real about drugs, anxiety, and loneliness on the road as a solo artist, and what, or who, is the catalyst for him to course correct and move into the next phase of his career and life. Tune in. We hope you enjoy this open, honest conversation with the remarkably talented Ekali. What we chat about: 0:01:55 A Journey from Vancouver to the Music Industry 0:03:20 Ekali's Musical Journey 0:06:32 Ekali's Breakthrough Moment and Early Career Experiences 0:11:09 From Touring in a Van to Making Lemonade Out of Lemons 0:14:06 Touring and Substance Abuse 0:16:34 Touring as a Solo Artist 0:20:19 Balancing a Rock Star Lifestyle with Self-Care 0:21:47 Social Anxiety, Solo Album, and Touring During COVID-19 0:25:29 Impact of the Pandemic on Musicians' Live Performance Income 0:27:25 Navigating Touring and Relationships in the Music Industry 0:28:39 Fiance, Touring Life, Marriage Plans, and AI Art 0:30:21 AI and Its Impact on the Arts 0:32:08 Use of AI in Art and Music Creation 0:33:47 Benefits of Utilizing Technology in Music Production 0:35:23 Exploring AI as a Creative Assistant and His Upcoming Music Project 0:41:04 Meaningful Tattoos and Decorating the Human Body 0:46:11 Upcoming Projects and Tour Plans Quotes: I kind of put myself in a box, and the type of music that I make isn't necessarily ideal for dance, which is what these events are all about. Like, really heavy trap and dubstep is really fun and there's a lot of high energy, but there's not as much groove as other genres of music. There are Instagram accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers, and there are artists who just do AI art, and that's it. And to me, that's a little bit scary because it's sort of eroding the integrity of the art. I don't think that there will ever be a replacement for human art, but I do think that it's going to make living and prospering off of your art even more difficult than it already is for people who are just beginning, people who are trying to get into the field. And the environment you're in, it's just like I don't know. I'm sure she trusts you, but I know most women would be like, wow, my husband is traveling around the world surrounded by drugs, alcohol, and women. That's got to be stressful a little bit. Even if they feel completely comfortable and trusting of you, you know, that kind of probably eats at them a little. It would eat on anybody. It like, at my peak, I was playing, I think, close to 150 shows a year, so it was very busy. And coming out of COVID my first tour back, I think I played about 30 dates on the tour, and that was over the course of two months, so it was show every other day. But I got burnt out real quick the past few years. I'm getting older, and I'm finding that I want to spend more time at home now, and luckily I'm able to have that luxury. I can afford to just play a show here and there and then spend more time at home with my loved ones and making music. ARTY on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 5/25/22 About ARTY - ARTY continues to shock the dance world with a record-breaking 2018, and his first single of 2019 “Save Me Tonight” going to #1 on US dance radio. In 2018, famed DJ/Producer and EDM heavyweight Artem ‘Arty' Stoliarov a.k.a. ARTY started with his single “Sunrise” going to #2 on US dance radio, and then closing the year with “Velvet” released on Ninjawerks — the first ever EDM and gaming collaboration soundtrack. In 2018 alone ARTY released 20 new songs between his two projects: ARTY, and progressive trance-focused, ALPHA 9, including incredibly successful remixes for Skrillex, Above and Beyond, Axwell / Ingrosso, and Armin Van Buuren — making him #1 in 2018 for most releases by any EDM artist. 2019 has been even more exciting with “Save Me Tonight” going to #1 on US Dance Radio in under nine weeks, with a highly-acclaimed music video released at the same time, directed by Noah Centineo and starring Golden Globe Nominated actress, Lily Collins. ARTY has built an international following mixing his trademark big-room anthems with downtempo electronica year over year. With nods to classic trance, Arty continues to produce under the moniker ALPHA 9, and is currently wrapping up a United States tour with special performances internationally. With an XS Encore Las Vegas residency under his belt, and a pedigree of performances at Ultra, Electric Daisy Carnival, Tomorrowland, Ushuaïa, Amnesia Ibiza, and Creamfields, Arty has established himself as one of the music industry's most consistent artists, a prodigious talent, and has become a go-to for others artists, crafting immensely popular remixes for Skrillex, Axwell / Ingrosso, Armin Van Buuren, Halsey, OneRepublic, London Grammar, Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson, and Years & Years. As a leading influence in the music scene and top 25 DJ, ARTY has several new works of original music and collaborations set for release later this year. Recently he toured in Asia, and played sold out shows in Ibiza with Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren, and also toured Japan, Russia, and played major festivals including EDC, Tomorrowland, and Dreamstate. How much power do you give the random strangers in Las Vegas. On Friday we had tickets to see Jim Gaffigan in Las Vegas. I was looking forward to it. Darcy was, too. Unfortunately, Jim got Covid and the show was canceled at the last minute. We didn't find out until after we were down there and had dinner. So, we decided to catch another show. While I went to the bathroom Darcy and our friends picked Penn and Teller. It was ok. Kind of cool to see people that are famous. We went to dinner, we went shopping at Trader Joe's because we don't have one here in St George. So, if you are listening and have any clout with the TJ's people, please let us have one here. Then we went over to the Rio where the Penn and Teller show is. We were about an hour early, so we decided to just hang out in the parking lot since none of us gamble and the inside of a casino is still a place where you can smoke in Las Vegas. Boy did we get a show before the show. To our surprise, we found that the Rio parking lot was the shuttle area for those going to an outdoor music event that features electronic dance music called Electric Daisy Carnival. From what I could tell this is a music festival where the women dress in their absolutely most revealing clothes and the men dress up in the same thing they would wear to go play basketball. This was an amazing opportunity for us to practice what we preach here on the podcast and that we help people work on and through in our membership and individual coaching. We would like to share our experience with you and a few tips on how you can thrive as individuals and couples when life offers you an experience like the one that we had on Friday. Just because someone is showing their body, that doesn't mean my partner is sexualizing it. It was good to see the body objectively They were just moving across the stage It was a physical representation of letting something come into your mind and allowing it to move off on its own. They came and then they went one after another. Really, objectively noticing but not sexualizing. In the past, would have been a lot more on high alert I wasn't a zero on the calm level, but I wasn't panicking. It was so absurd that we could talk and joke about it rather than making it more than just what we were seeing. Just because there is a nearly naked body, that doesn't mean that it's a problem. - In the past I would have to pretend that I'm not seeing this. I wouldn't have been able to mention anything that I was seeing and I would not have been able relax at all. It was a dishonest position inherently. Indicating that I was seeing it would have created greater tension But there would have been a lot of tension there already. It would have been this fake moment. Then I would have waited for the inevitable questions from Darcy “What were you looking at” “were you fantasizing about it” Were you wishing I wasn't there so you could just gawk? Is that going to lead to something? I don't have to give my power and emotional energy to the random strangers I wouldn't have been able to be present, or enjoy myself, There wouldn't have been laughing or joking This would have felt like a threat, almost like a life and death situation The way i don't give away my power is by realizing, I don't have control over this and neither does my partner. Also, realizing that this is legal, Other people find this ok, and I don't have to be mad about that. “Ok, alright, these people are dressed for the moment” and that's ok I wouldn't have worn that. It was asking, how much power do I want to give these strangers that are...
