Lebanese DJ and producer Arabian Panther, famed for his keffiyah stage mask and his distinctive sound which can transition swiftly from a warrior's march anthem to a club banger tinged with Arabic scales and instrumentals. His dynamic sets and productions pay homage to his multicultural heritage as a French child from the Lebanese diaspora, demonstrating solidarity with the Palestinian cause.  Arabian Panther's journey of solidarity commenced with the release of his EP ‘Desert's Anthem' in 2019, which caught the attention of Palestinian DJ Odai Masri, aka Oddz and helped him forge connections within the Palestinian music scene. After signing his first track with the first Palestinian techno label ‘Harara' – managed by the late great Oddz. For our 230th episode of Select, Arabian Panther has created a set exclusively for SceneNoise, which he recorded in one take at his home. The set is infused with some of his favourite tunes that he has been incorporating into his sets over the past year, along with a selection of tracks from his latest EP, ‘The Death of the Panther', which he released on Ritmo Fatale on March 22nd of this year. Featuring his own original tracks like ‘Hafla For Our Dead', as well as ‘Lala Torkia' by Cheb Hamar and more, the 66-minute set begins with an eclectic mix of Palestinian Dabke music, incorporating classic Middle Eastern instrumentals like Tabla, Mezmar, and Darbuka drums, which serve as the base for the set. As the set unfurls, Arabian Panther brings in versatile elements of techno, with dreamy vocal undertones. Proceed with loudspeakers in hand...

We love art, music, and people and interview some of the wonderful people we meet. We met Raquy in Istanbul, Turkey, where she is now based. About RaquyHailing from unlikely Western roots, Raquy has distinguished herself as a unique phenomenon and earned a place of renown in the genre. She has collaborated and performed with some of the most famous Middle Eastern drummers in the world and has given concerts and workshops across the USA, Canada, The Middle East, Asia, Europe, Russia, and South America. Raquy specializes in the Turkish split-hand technique. This style was born twenty years ago when Turkish drummers began splitting the hand, thus attaining unprecedented speed and dexterity. In 2012 Raquy opened her “Darbuka Ofis” in downtown Istanbul, where she trains daily under the direction of her teacher, master drummer Bünyamin Olguncan.  Her Ofis has become a center for drumming, attracting drummers from all over the world who flock to Istanbul to learn from Raquy and Bünyamin.EPSIODE LINKShttps://raquy.com/https://www.facebook.com/RaquyDanziger/https://www.instagram.com/raquytabla/https://soundcloud.com/raquytablahttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzPUz0KpcUxPsl2uXH8S8NQhttps://www.etsy.com/shop/RaquyArthttps://www.instagram.com/darbukaschool/https://darbukaschool.com/http://www.raquydrumstore.com/▬ CONTENT OF THIS VIDEO ▬ (00:00:01) - Discovering Istanbul's Music and Art(00:15:26) - Drumming Lessons and Online ClassesSupport the showPODCAST INFOPodcast website: http://theconrad.family/podcast YouTube Full Episodes: https://www.youtube.com/theconradfamily365Apple Podcasts: https://www.theconrad.family/apple Spotify: https://theconrad.family/spotify RSS: https://theconrad.family/rss SUPPORT & CONNECTSupport on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Theconradfamily Share a review: https://www.theconrad.family/review-our-podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theconrad.familyFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/theconradfamilyTwitter: https://twitter.com/theconradfamily

Danny Shamoun, a Los-Angeles based multi-instrumentalist originally hailing from Detroit, discusses how he started with Middle Eastern Music and transitioned to performing with System of a Down (SOAD), joining Scars of Broadway as a keyboardist, learning the Arabian Ney Flute and the impact of music theory and Makam modal based music. Topics include: Discussion of how Shamoun’s interest in music blossomed early, from the very young age of 3 with listening and watching to an Ibraham Tatlises video Shamoun’s youth in Detroit featured exposure to various ethnic groups like Chaldeans, Lebanese, Syrians, etc., and his parents frequently attended Arabic music banquets as opposed to rock concerts like what he saw others doing around him Shamoun was impacted by seeing musicians and their lifestyle and that influenced his interest in music, and he also noticed a little bit of “funk” from the music scene which piqued his interest At a local community festival, Shamoun was goaded into playing the dumbek on stage with the Levendes, a prominent Greek ensemble based out of the Detroit area, and he started to take note of the various time signatures and began learning about Greek music and prominent Greek singers Over time, Shamoun took his practicing quite seriously, and began studying with Johnny Seduwet to learn music theory which prepared him very well for the rest of his musical career Shamoun later traveled from Detroit to California and became involved in the music scene through an introduction to hard rock band One Side Zero, where he was able to meet and work with Ray Mayorga and was also introduced to John Dolmayan from System of a Down, and other bands such as Viza and The Apex Theory, and even a brush with Metallica Shamoun was invited to perform with System of a Down on stage to do a dumbek solo during various shows, which was a very inspirational to him as an aspiring musician, which led to his relationship with System guitarist Daron Malakian and his eventual work with Malakian’s side project Scars on Broadway Shamoun began working with System with PA work and Malakian’s guitar pedal controls during System concerts, which really helped him learn about production and sound, and became good friends with Mike Bordin from Faith No More as they all toured together Shamoun then began work with Scars on Broadway, and expanded from dumbek and percussion to keyboard playing to round out the band’s sound Shamoun came full circle from his music theory training with Seduwet as a youth and applied his knowledge on the keyboard, including his makam training which he could play on his Yamaha PSR 62 (which can play quarter tones), and then began taking piano lessons at the suggestion of Malakian and studied with Howard Richmond in Los Angeles which improved his playing Shamoun really focused on practicing and studying and preparing for Scars recordings and tours Discussion of Shamoun as a unique musician with his background and involvement in both middle eastern music and rock music Shamoun then turned his attention to the Ney (Middle Eastern flute), which expanded his musical horizons dramatically and Shamoun recorded Ney on Viza’s Aria record Ali Jihad Rasy at UCLA took Shamoun under his wing where Shamoun was able to key in on his Ney playing and also Shamoun started scoring films, in particular for a movie named “The Queen of the Desert” with such actors as Nicole Kidman, Daniel Day Lewis and James Franco Shamoun recently released an original song and music video where his percussion and Ney work are featured in “Seaside Sultress”, part of his ambient music projects for film scoring Shamoun’s group “The Global Trance Ensemble” is on various social media platforms Shamoun also worked at a studio in Detroit where he ran in to master kanunist Ara Topouzian which involved so much experience learning about studio life and techniques which had an enormous impact on his musical development Discussion of the uniqueness of the Ney with a double reed sound and embouchure technique which is exceedingly difficult to make a tone on the Ney, and the similarities in spirit of the “fresh water” instruments made of wood such as the oud Podcast listeners can enjoy the end of the podcast which features Shamoun’s track “Seaside Sultress”

Come on, you haven't had this much fun since 1978, when your brother took you to a Lenny and the Squigtones concert.

Part two of the "slap" technique on the congas. In this lesson we will explore further the slap technique of hand drumming as it pertains to the congas. More specifically we will be explaining the open slap tone. Victor VillaFania will be with us in this episode and the next several ones to come. He is a tremendous percussionist and very humble. So humble in fact he requested himself that he'd rather not speak much. We will however have him speak more in the very near future since he has so much to offer in the way of playing and teaching. Enjoy, and please feel free to send us your questions. The link to our podcast is on the site www.heartbeatforworship.com. God bless you all!
