System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has won a Grammy and played on multi-platinum selling records, all fueled by the creative boost he gets from cannabis. In fact, he loves the plant so much he started his own brand, 22 Red, and serves as his own quality control expert. We talk about his first puff, the weed dealer who changed his life, the adventure and occasional pot-holes of trying to score good herb while touring the world, discovering sativas in Amsterdam, and why he became an outspoken advocate for legalization way back before that was cool. Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage is our guest this week and we're here to make sure everyone out there picks up their upcoming album This Consequence, coming out February 21. The conversation starts with the journey from Atonement to the latest album, re-releasing the debut record with new ears and years behind it, growing up in the New England metal and hardcore scene, and how the bands brought vulnerability and positivity to an entire genre that lacked much of both. We also talk about the importance of truth to our lives and how the definition adapts and changes as we grow older, how the coldness of technology can limit a revolution of the heart and being human, and the hardcore and punk bands that influenced him in so many ways, and if Killswitch would ever tackle an unplugged type of performance. Petar and Brandon discuss the smells that come to mind when thinking about nu metal, how James “Munky” Shaffer is changing the narrative of that smell by releasing his new fragrance, the return of Spineshank and Snot, and Shavo Odadjian's statement on System of a Down "testing the waters" with their 2025 tour plans. In this episode of Aftershocks TV, hosts Matt and Chris dive into the ongoing debate about nu metal. The genre exploded in the late '90s, but was it truly a unique musical style or simply a product of its time? The discussion is sparked by a recent comment from System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian. Shavo suggested that nu metal was more of an era than a lasting musical movement. Matt and Chris break down the evolution of nu metal, its key bands, and its cultural impact. They explore how the genre reshaped rock music during the late '90s and early 2000s. Was nu metal just a flash in the pan, or did it leave a lasting imprint on the music industry? The hosts analyze whether nu metal was defined by its unique sound or the cultural moment it represented. Get ready for a thought-provoking discussion about the legacy of nu metal. Does it still hold up today, or has it become more of a nostalgic trend? Tune in to hear both sides of the debate and get a closer look at what nu metal really means in the modern era. #numetal #shavoodadjian #systemofadown #aftershockstv #rockmusic #90smusic #metalheads #musicdebate #musicdiscussion #rockhistory #metallegacy #nu-metalera NOTE: Everything said here, and on every episode of all of our shows are 100% the opinions of the hosts. This week, we've got Bartek Krysiuk and Monk Boruta of Patriarkh on The MetalSucks Podcast! Their debut album Prophet Ilia coming out January 3! We begin the conversation with the historical figure that they cover, choosing to use regional instruments while recording, and how the first vision of the album completely changed over the two years it took to create it. We also discuss which modern figure can be seen as Prophet Ilja, if there's a documentary outside Poland on the figure they recommend, and performing the album in its entirety being something they feel it needs. We also discuss potential worldwide touring plans they'd like to do, and why Prophet Ilja was the perfect fresh start for them. Petar and Brandon also tackle Shavo Odadjian's comments about “cheesy bands” ruining nu metal, Primus looking for a new drummer and how intimidating it would be to even send an audition tape to Les Claypool, Otep calling it quits on her music career and why we feel the timing is right, and King Diamond canceling a fair amount of shows on his current North American tour. How's it growing folks?! Welcome to a very special episode of Here Weed Go! I hinted last week that this new season, this new year of Here Weed Go! would be different. The difference is you'll be hearing a lot more about my personal journey, not just with cannabis, but through life: my travels, my success, my troubles and my failures. Part of that means taking a slightly new tack with my interviews and interview subjects. That will all start with this episode and my interview of the bassist for System of a Down and cannabis company 22Red founder, Shavo Odadjian. In our conversation, Odadjian and I touch on his time growing up in LA as a recent Armenian immigrant, and how that experience shaped his outlook on music, his work ethic and how he interacted with the City of Angeles other immigrant communities. We also talk about the years of working the LA music scene before hitting it big with System of a Down, and what sort of attention fame brings with it. And of course, we touch on 22Red, one of my favorite producers of top shelf flower. I ask Odadjian about his first experience with weed, how he got into the cannabis industry and what his plans are for 22Red in the future. Rob GEE on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 1/12/23 About Rob GEE - Rob GEE is famous all across The Universe as "the hardest DJ to ever play the Limelight in NYC." In the club's early 90's heyday, the versatile GEE kept delirious audiences going through spinning at Limelight's "Future Shock" dance/techno nights and performing with his live band as well as spinning at the club's "Rock And Roll Church" metal/ rock/ industrial nights. The crowds kept coming back to Limelight, just like they did in Australia, Japan, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Austria, Hungary and Belgium to name a few. GEE is a recurring headliner at Sensation,Thunderdome, Mysteryland, and Love Parade, where GEE played before one million people. His diverse appeal keeps him performing weekly at all types of musical events and concerts. GEE has shared the stage with everyone from Hatebreed and Biohazard to Crystal Method, Busta Rhymes, Kurtis Blow, and Afrika Bambaataa. His GEEness has also has spun at many Slipknot and Korn after parties with his good friend, DJ Starscream a.k.a. #0 of Slipknot. GEE's history of DJing and live performances shows his dedication of bringing the fusion of organic and electronic music to a wide variety of listeners. GEE's love of hip-hop, hardcore, techno, metal and every other genre for that matter set him apart from the rest. While other DJs make tracks and spin records, GEE is an Artist who writes original songs. His indecisiveness as to whether or not he wanted to breakdance and spin hip-hop or jump in the mosh pit and play in a metal band was one of the reasons he began to cultivate his own style of both. Rob GEE is the only artist of his kind to collaborate and create with members of respected rock, metal, hardcore and hip-hop acts such as Slipknot, Hatebreed, Biohazard, Wu-Tang Clan, Cypress Hill, and System Of A Down (just to name a few) creating a unification of Rock, Electronic, & Metal as well any other style GEE chooses to use. The GEEsult is Rob GEE gabber music. Rob GEE says, "There are no boundaries in music" . GEE is writing history launching gabber into the scene of the galaxy...... "The Gabber Guru," as GEE is known for his constant motivation of #PositivianVibes gained worldwide fame after the release of "Ecstasy You Got What I Need". The song went Gold and was the #1 video on The Box for 13 straight weeks. At the same time, "Ecstasy" rose to #9 on the pop charts and earned him Best Artist, Best Producer and Best Song of the year at The Thunder Awards in Holland. The GEE Man has recently enjoyed more worldwide success along with band mates Neophyte and Tieum with their collective efforts "Coming At You Strong", "Anxiety", & "Rage With Pride" under the name "Riot Squad". Rob GEE is still pushing solo success globally with his most recent hit "Right Now". GEE, always with his open mind, has enjoyed recent Hardstyle & Rawstyle bangers teaming up with heavy hitters like The Prophet and Adaro. While in the same breath has been rocking the mainstream airwaves collaborating with hardcore giants Noize Suppressor, Mad Dog, & Furyan. It is officially one of those times again... System Of A Down are one of my biggest musical inspirations. Toxicity literally did not leave my Discman for about a year and a half. (Yes Discman. I said what I said.) The dudes at Ashdown Engineering hooked Shavo and I up while I was at Gearfest and we had an EPIC conversation. We dove into the new North Kingsley record, the grey areas of the world, his new solo record, and a whole lot more. This is definitely one of those "pinch me" moments. Enjoy the chat! OF A DOWN , a Armênia.

Has it really been more than 15 years since System Of A Down released ANY new music? Well then, are the band’s two new songs “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” (recorded to raise awareness for the recent conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed region of Artsakh) worth the wait? Do the singles make us want more new music from Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan? Find out what Matt and Zach think in Epic Footnote Productions’ “2 Minutes to Review,” a podcast that’s part album review and part competition. In each episode, both hosts are given two minutes each to review a newly released album, a recent reissue, a record they’re revisiting after years of going unlistened, or in this case a collection of new singles. Whoever gives the longest review in under two minutes wins.

Shavo Odadjian is a member of the Grammy Award-winning band System of a Down. Aside from playing bass guitar, he is also a songwriter and backup vocalist. This week, Shavo opens up about life growing up and what his Armenian heritage means to him. He and Mike then discuss entrepreneurial pursuits and how to spot new industries with potential.
This past weekend's sold-out Aftershock Festival not only provided an eclectic array of musical offerings on the stage, it also provided an opportunity for fans to engage with some of the non-music creative rock and roll endeavors. More than ever, bands are branching out to get involved in new ventures, many of them in the beverage industry, Slipknot has their No. 9 whiskey, System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian was in town for his 22Red cannabis line, next year's headliners were in full feature with their Blackened Whiskey and Enter Night beer collaboration, while present year headliners Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's Caduceus Cellars Wine from Arizona was also prominently featured. Rock'N Vino was on the scene to check out all of this, take in the show, as well as to catch up with some of the bands performing throughout the electric weekend. First up, Chris 'Motionless' Ceruclli is the frontman for Scranton metal band Motionless in White. The band fuses hard rock sounds with goth and electronic influences, while still mixing melody into the mix. The band has been riding high following the release of the latest album Disguise, as well as touring the country with some of their idols. The band first toured alongside metal heroes Atreyu before jumping on the road opening for the legendary Alice Cooper and Halestorm. Motionless joked that being a member of a band and touring with your idols isn't drastically different from being a fan and having nerves about meeting your favorite artists and hoping they match up with the internal portrait you've painted of them. Luckily for Motionless, he says his tourmates could not have been more gracious. He said the opportunity to open for Cooper even allowed the band to play for a generation of fans that might not have otherwise heard the band. Motionless in White also getting set to reveal their early 2020 tour plans; while Cerulli couldn't reveal quite yet who the band plans to tour with in the new year, he did drop the hint that they were friends and shared a spot on the Aftershock bill on the same day. While it's been three years since the release of their last album Fury, the band has not spent idle time in between projects. The band has made it a point to travel overseas and play for active duty members of the armed forces in a number of locales. The band is grateful for an opportunity to give back and have found that playing the live shows is the best avenue for them to do it. Recently the band was even dispatched to Guantanamo Bay Cuba to perform for the troops, a part of the world that few get to see at all, let alone a rock band. The trio is putting the finishing touches on their latest as-yet-untitled album to be released in the new year, a project produced by Goldfinger frontman John Feldman. The band took advantage of the Aftershock stage to premiere hard rocking Rage Against the Machine-inspired new track "There Goes the Neighborhood." Frontman Bryan Scott says he's feeling as comfortable as ever both on the stage and in the studio as he prepares for the release of his second album as frontman with the band. He teases that fans can expect the band pushing the envelope in both directions to discover some of their heaviest sounds as well as their softer side. Finally, newcomer Evan Konrad sits down to talk about his eclectic musical foundation of influences as well as his love of storytelling through lyricism as well as creating dramatic and creative visuals. It's been a whirlwind year for the Canadian born artist, who was signed on the spot when LAVA Records founder Jason Flom heard Konrad's music from his SoundCloud on headphones at an underground vegan restaurant in Toronto. Konrad takes a very DIY approach to his music, locking himself away to write, record, and produce his own music. He says the process can take anywhere from a couple hours to a number of weeks to figure out when a song is ready to go. Konrad also made waves for the release of a haunting piano-driven cover of Soundgarden's "Back Hole Song." A longtime fan of frontman Chris Cornell, Konrad said covering the song was in a way an homage to his own musical upbringing.

Shavo Odadjian is best known as the bassist for System of a Down, but he's also an avid smoker and cannabis connoisseur. This weekend, Shavo makes his entry to the industry with the launch of 22Red, a new line that's part fashion brand, part music label, and part cannabis brand. We talked about System of a Down's first visit to Amsterdam, which was blessed by an impromptu smoke session with famed strain hunter Arjan Roskam. We also learned what strains Shavo is excited to share with California cannabis consumers, including Church Weed, a frankincense-scented strain that smells like Sunday service. And of course, we also found out what Shavo and our hosts are smoking these days, including the novel cannabinoid Delta 8 THC.
Today on Cannabis Confidential we speak to Shavo Odadjian, a founding member of System of a Down. Shavo's fans also know him as a producer, painter, director, and actor.
