In this landmark 100th episode of Mind Yo' Life, recorded inside Morgenstern's Bookstore Podcast Studio, Andrew celebrates the close of Season 8 with a guest who embodies the Midwestern hustle, heart, and humor that define the show—Clayton Anderson, a Bedford, Indiana native turned rising star in country music. Clayton shares the story of his climb—from playing local events and pouring sweat into bar gigs, to eventually making it to Nashville, where he caught a career-changing break by winning Kenny Chesney's "Next Big Star" competition in Cincinnati. That victory landed him the opportunity to open for Chesney, and set him on a path toward national recognition. In this episode, Clayton talks candidly about the music business, brushes with superstardom (including almost being signed by Justin Timberlake and meeting Garth Brooks), and the relentless grind it takes to build a name. Things get lighthearted too, with a laugh-out-loud discussion about the viral internet theory that Garth Brooks is secretly a serial killer—a wild idea born from comedian Tom Segura's ongoing bit that has taken on a life of its own. We also explores Clayton's newest venture: opening his own country music bar in Indianapolis, creating a space where live music, local culture, and cold drinks come together. Packed with laughs, life lessons, and the spirit of someone who's never stopped chasing the next stage, this episode is the perfect way to close out a season—and a reminder that big dreams really do start in small towns.

In this crossover edition of Mind Yo' Life, recorded live inside Morgenstern's Bookstore Podcast Studio, Andrew hosts a special author talk with B.C. James to promote his latest novel Mjolnir—a mythologically charged reimagining of the legendary hammer that dives deeper than anything the Marvel universe has portrayed. B.C. James shares the incredible journey that led him here: from working with the Detroit mafia in his early years, to turning his life around through a passion for computers. He now works as a successful software engineer, helping develop the touchscreen systems found in modern-day vehicles. But beyond code and tech, writing remains his true creative outlet. In this interview, B.C. talks about his success with earlier novels, including how he managed to get Lzzy Hale, lead singer of Halestorm, to appear as a character in one of his books. He also offers his take on the pop culture misconceptions around Norse mythology—especially the hammer Mjolnir itself—and why telling a more grounded, authentic story matters to him as both an author and a fan of mythic narratives. His books, including Mjolnir, are available now on Amazon. Whether you're interested in transformation, storytelling, or the power of second chances, this conversation offers a behind-the-scenes look at an author who's lived a life as epic as the stories he tells. In this episode of Mind Yo' Life, recorded inside Morgenstern's Bookstore Podcast Studio in Bloomington, Andrew sits down with Malcolm Abrams (founder, editor and publisher) and Cassaundra Huskey (executive publisher) of Bloom Magazine—two leaders guiding a local publication that's entered its 20th year of serving the Bloomington community. Malcolm shares how his career in New York publishing and his discovery of Bloomington in 2005 laid the foundation for creating Bloom Magazine, which began in August 2006 and is now celebrating two decades of storytelling. Cassaundra explains how she joined the magazine in 2018 as associate publisher and rose to executive publisher, bringing her background in sales, real estate valuation, and community engagement to the mission of the magazine. Together, they discuss how the publishing industry has changed—print vs digital, audience expectations, advertising models—and how Bloom Magazine has adapted while staying true to its roots: local culture, arts, food, community, and storytelling. They dig into how visuals and narrative work hand-in-hand—why compelling imagery matters just as much as thoughtful writing in making a publication that stands out. Whether you're curious about how an independent magazine survives and thrives in the digital age, or interested in how image and story drive engagement in any media business, this episode delivers. If you believe in the power of telling real stories, building community through content, and making print still matter in a digital world—this conversation is for you. https://www.magbloom.com/ Podcast Studio Sponsor Podcast Sponsor Podcast Sponsor JF WALKER INVESTMENTS 812-327-0889

In this delightfully unpredictable episode of Mind Yo' Life, recorded inside Morgenstern's Bookstore Podcast Studio in Bloomington, Andrew sits down with theatre innovator, serial entrepreneur, and full-time idea machine Chad Rabinovitz. Chad is the Artistic Director of Constellation Stage & Screen, a one-of-a-kind arts organization blending professional theatre with independent film. He's also the founder of The Candy Space—a space-themed candy shop that launched in New York and quickly expanded into a national freeze-dried candy brand known as Space Candy. But Chad's story is more than stagecraft and sugar. A triplet, Chad and his siblings all graduated high school as valedictorians, which somehow makes perfect sense after hearing how he balances multiple businesses, dozens of productions, and a creative brain that never hits pause. In this episode, Andrew and Chad talk about building arts institutions from the ground up, creating magic both literally and metaphorically, and why failure is sometimes the best set piece in the show. They also get into Chad's love of risk-taking, the psychology of audience engagement, and what it means to bring both structure and surprise to every room you enter—whether it's a black box theater or a candy aisle. And just when things get too serious, Chad takes on a custom quiz designed just for him—full of theater twists, sugary curveballs, and triplet trivia. Yet, dementia family caregivers face this challenge without the coordinated support, training, or resources needed to provide the best care possible. But that's beginning to change. On July 1st Medicare is launching a new, first-of-its-kind program called GUIDE—Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience—created to provide comprehensive, FREE support for dementia family caregivers. Daughterhood has partnered with PocketRN, an approved Medicare provider for the GUIDE program and a nationwide organization offering families 24/7 access to nurses—right from their pocket. My guest today is Jenna Morgenstern-Gaines, the CEO and co-founder of PocketRN. In our conversation, Jenna will share more details about the GUIDE program and its comprehensive benefits, including ongoing caregiver support, education and training, access to respite care, how to enroll, everything you need to know to access the program. What does being an introvert in a profession centered on community and collaboration mean? For Katelynn Morgenstern, AICP, Director of Planning and Zoning in Kennett Township, Pennsylvania, navigating networking and building a brand used to feel daunting—until she discovered the power of social media to build authentic connections, explore planning passions beyond her day job, and grow her confidence. Through her online persona @CityPlannerKate, Katelynn cultivated a meaningful network that helped her engage in person with more ease, while exploring under-addressed topics like equity and hostile architecture. On this episode of People Behind the Plans, APA Editor in Chief Meghan Stromberg sits down with Kate at the NPC25 in Denver to talk about her journey from overwhelmed first-time conference attendee to confident speaker and thought leader. They explore how social media can be a powerful tool for introverted planners, why authenticity matters more than algorithm hacks, and how to stay connected while protecting your well-being. It's not every day you run across this skillful an abridgment of S. Morgenstern's classic tale of love and adventure, one that was also turned into a beloved feature film of the same name. But there's something weird going on here. Both author and abridger are editorializing a LOT, and I'm not sure I can even find the kingdom of Florin on a map. Oh well! It's probably nothing. This episode is sponsored by Squarespace.
