Send us a textJoin Dr. Almitra Berry and educational technology entrepreneur Heather Wiederstein for a timely revisit of their powerful 2023 conversation, newly urgent in today's climate. This episode unpacks the intersectionality of Black/Brown and queer identities within DEI frameworks, exploring how systemic marginalization manifests in education and society.  **Key discussions include**:  - The weaponization of **book bans** against marginalized voices, with analysis of their ties to racial and LGBTQ+ demonization  - Personal narratives about navigating intersectional identities in hostile environments  - Psychological roots of self-hatred and its exploitation by power structures  - The rise of performative censorship tactics like targeting drag queen story hours  Two years later, these issues remain critical as education battles intensify. Heather and Dr. Berry's insights now carry added resonance amid ongoing legislative attacks on inclusive curricula and library freedoms.  **We want YOUR voice**: How have you witnessed intersectional erasure or censorship in your community? Share your stories via the link in our show notes—your experiences shape this movement.  *Before we part ways, I want to hear from you. Text me your questions, stories, or topic suggestions - you'll find the link in the show notes. I help them figure out where to start and what to do next so they can plan and write the book they can't stop thinking about. My mission is to add more color to the bookshelves by helping Black + Brown writers get clear on their ideas and confident in their writing skills so they can share their experiences, expertise, and stories with the world. My vision: Books by us are as widely known, accessible, and revered as the “classics.”I am a nerdy, intuitive, creative soul with a notebook obsession that is kind of getting out of hand. (Okay, it was out of hand when I had two full boxes of journals during our last move.) I'm also a professional nap-taker, a recovering hot cheetos puffs addict, and I've watched Parks and Rec so many times I can listen to it like a podcast and know exactly what's going on. And after a 7-year career as a licensed architect (it was a vibe, just not the one for me), I returned to my first love: books. I got certified in Nonfiction and Fiction Book Coaching through Author Accelerator, and I've been living the dream ever since.I intentionally work with mostly BIPOC because I know there are so many of us who have s**t to say, and there aren't a whole lot of people helping us get it said. So, I made my writers' (and my own) expression my job. Three years later, it's still the best job in the world. Before we dive into today's replay episode, I have some exciting updates to share. As we gear up for the summer season, I'll be taking a brief hiatus to refine our mission and enhance your listening experience.  While we take this short break, look forward to revisiting some of our most cherished conversations from the past. These timeless gems are filled with wisdom and insights that are as relevant today as ever. Have you ever been told, "you are aggressive", or "next time think about not being so vocal", or maybe "why do you keep making such gross error" when your mistakes are no different from others? More times than I can count, I and other Black and Brown women around me have experienced microaggressions in the form of feedback at work. Sometimes they're about the quality of our work or our body language or behavior. One thing that's sure about microaggressions that come through as feedback in the workplace is that they are not always overt. In fact, they sometimes sound like a compliment. "So how do I know the difference and what should I do in such a situation?" This is a burning experience that we as Black/Brown women need to know how to navigate in order to create and maintain a space of equal respect for ourselves at work so listen in as I share how to successfully manage such work place environments.   Get your free Workplace Confident Guide: https://thetee.lpages.co/workplace-confidence-lead-magnet/   Connect with Linda: bit.ly/teeconnect https://www.lindataliaferro.com/ https://www.facebook.com/theteewithlinda/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/lindataliaferro https://www.instagram.com/TheTeeWithLinda/

CONTENT WARNING: Recent Sonya Lynaye Wilburn-Massey Police Murder + Racially Motivated Murder of Anthony Walker. - In this week's Black World News, Kehinde Andrews makes plain three news items. Firstly the recent unlawful murder of Sonya Massey by the police for no reason; and the need to center Black women killed by the police too (#SAYHERNAME). Secondly, he makes plain that Jamaica (and the Caribbean) is a prison colony. Third, he makes plain that probable presidential nominee Kamala Harris is not the solution to our problems; she's a Black face in a high place (#WhiteHouseNegro). She has no program, no solution, and will not do anything for Black people because the US president by design can't do anything for Black people.  - In this week's Black United Front interview, Kehinde Andrews talks with Dominque Walker, an ex-police officer, about Dominque's far-reaching abolitionist and antiracist work, particularly with the antiracist charity Anthony Walker Foundation. Her work in academic spaces as a lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University and with The Goddess Project, a Black women's group. They talk about Dominque's experiences of racism and sense of safety living and growing up in Liverpool in White-majority and Black & Brown-majority areas.  In 2005, when Dominque was 19, her brother Anthony Walker, 18, from Huyton, Liverpool, was brutally murdered by two White males Paul Taylor and Michael Barton on July 30, 2005. It was a racially motivated axe attack as Anthony walked with his cousin and his White girlfriend across McGoldrick Park in Huyton (a predominantly White area), Liverpool. This special podcast series dives deep into the journeys of A&T alumni who have earned their PhDs, featuring thought-provoking conversations and memorable moments. You'll hear from Dr. Ebony O. McGee, who revisits her critical insights from her powerful book, "Black, Brown, and Bruised: How Racialized STEM Education Stifles Innovation." Guided by Dr. Rihanna Roby, the discussion emphasizes the essential role of community support among Black educators and scholars.Ever wondered about the true cost of systemic racism on mental and physical wellbeing? This episode tackles the severe health impacts faced by Black professionals, critiquing the false narrative that resilience is merely a personal responsibility. We shed light on the alarming rates of premature deaths among highly educated Black individuals and the physical manifestations of stress, from anxiety attacks to fibroids. By examining these issues, we argue for systemic changes to prevent such tragedies and advocate for structural solutions rather than individualistic approaches to resilience and self-care.We then pivot to the foundational flaws in STEM education and the necessity for inclusive and affirming spaces. This episode challenges the exclusionary practices rooted in eugenics and examines the overlooked contributions of Black innovators in STEM. Through personal stories and broader systemic critiques, we advocate for an equity ethic in STEM that prioritizes racial justice and community well-being. Finally, we explore the critical role of Black STEM faculty in transforming academia and the importance of adequately funding HBCUs to nurture Black talent and future leaders. We did a unique study, polling black and brown people's support for Trump or Biden in New York City, particularly Harlem, Manhattan to ascertain how the black and brown population would vote if the elections were called today. This is part 2 of a series in response to a video clip on Twitter showing how blacks in Chicago are supporting Trump. We at The NeoLiberal Round decided to conduct a study via the podcast where we ask black and brown people at random who they are voting for and whether they are Republicans or Democrats and also their socio-economic status (financially stable or not), plus other demographical questions such as age, heritage - Caribbean, Latin America or African American with little to no connections to any foreign heritage, etc. The interviews comprised over 25 individuals from various age groups and political affiliations. We aired the interviews of the individuals who agreed to be interviewed on the show for the broadcast. The episode also contains an in-depth analysis of the interviews with the respondents. It wraps up at the end with a summary of the findings and the interviews which included a comparison of Philly black voters against NYC Black Voters. The findings will be published in The NeoLiberal Journals and The NeoLiberal Post at The NeoLiberal Corporation The episode is a compilation of the various video interviews we conducted between March 10th and March 30th in NYC on location at 125th and Morningside and other locations in Harlem. The episode starts with a clip excerpt of the respondents and the host on several takes mashed together for a sensational and epic blend which then segways into the introduction by the Host of the individual short interviews. This episode has over 10 respondents on short clips between 28 seconds and 4 minutes. Summary Points: 1. Many people who are Democrats say that they are voting for Trump, but the Republicans we spoke to indicated that they are voting for or supporting Biden. 2. Four/Five years ago, when Trump ran against Biden, many if not most New Yorkers in NYC, who may have been supporting or thinking about voting for Trump, would not bravely share or discuss this with anyone; for their safety and sanity. Today, that is not the case, as is evident in the episode, since many publicly, boldly, and bravely discussed some in groups with other onlookers around and others spoke so loudly as if they were delivering a gospel message at an outdoor church service. How does the Support differ? 3. College-educated, Versus the non-college 4. Financially stable Vis-a-vis those struggling economically and getting by on odd jobs or low wages 5. Caribbean/West Indians 6. Latin and Hispanic Americans 6. Abortion, Conservative Values 7. White Americans who are politically entrenched 8. Younger people versus Older peoples 9. Verbalizing support versus actually going out to vote on election day. This episode was created, written, filmed, edited, and produced by Renaldo McKenzie, the President of The NeoLiberal Corporation, Doctoral Candidate at Georgetown Univ, and Author of Neoliberalism, Globalization, Income Inequality, Poverty and Resistance. Impact of Educational Leadership Podcast Episode 184 Hosted by: I. D. III for Isaiah Drone III Panelist: Jerry Green | Karl Berry| Buddy Thornton | The Child Benefit Theory I am deeply saddened by the Supreme Court's ruling on June 29, 2023, concerning Affirmative Action and its impact on minorities in the United States. I say that because the fight for Affirmative Action was the only due process most minorities possess, and now they have deemed it unconstitutional as it relates to the equal protection clause. The equal protection clause is a clause that protects the rights of those minorities, predominantly black and brown, giving them equal insured rights, much like the privileged majority. Affirmative Action leads me to another critical decision: the Child-benefit Theory. The child-benefit Theory is a principle that says state funds can be given to private-school students if it helps the child. Child-Benefit Theory means that it is allowed if buying textbooks for all children in the state, including those in private schools, can benefit the child. However, direct government aid to religious schools is generally held to violate the First Amendment's establishment clause. Karl Berry: Is there a constitutional problem with approving child benefit theory with religious-based schools? Buddy Thornton: Why should stakeholders in public schools be aware of these practices to access additional resources as needed to support learning? Jerry Green: What's the impact of the Supreme Court's decisions to overturn affirmative action and how does it affect Black/Brown families. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/isaiah-drone-iii/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/isaiah-drone-iii/support

In this episode, they dive deeper into the racially-charged challenges they've had to overcome.
