Send us a textEpisode 478"The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot"Actor: Nika King.King's talents as a comedian and actor are versatile and dynamic. She is best known for her comedic abilities but in her new breakout role playing Leslie, on the Emmy winning HBO series Euphoria opposite Zendaya and Storm Reid, King showcases a much more dramatic side of herself. In this role, King pulls from her early life watching family members battle addiction and triumphantly overcoming. It is from that resolve and resilience that King offers a dramatic perspective and newfound depth in this character.Nika has recently starred and executive produced her first feature film, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot being released in theaters nationwide on July 4th. Inspired by the powerful true story, this film follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a fire in the hearts of their rural church to embrace kids in the foster system that nobody else would take. By doing the impossible--adopting 77 children--this East Texas community proved that, with real, determined love, the battle for America's most vulnerable can be won.King's comedy has landed her roles on Kevin Hart's Guide to Black, the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, Canada and hosting Nika King & Friends, a monthly show at the Improv Lab in Hollywood CA. She has also act, wrote and produced on award winning webseries Funny Married Stuff, which is currently streaming on KweliTV. While King has a passion for acting and producing, her talents do not end there. #euphoria #angelstudio #movie #fyp #shorts #actor #podcast #interview #standupcomedy https://linktr.ee/mondaymorningcritic

Screenlife has been solidified as a bonafide film style thanks in large part to its pioneers and its knack for turning small budgets into large box office profits. Screenlife films present stories through the screens of our familiar digital devices like laptops, tablets, and smartphones giving the audience a familiar point of view as we spend countless hours of our lives on these devices.2018s Searching, starring John Cho, was a massive box office success earning $75 million dollars against an $800,000 budget. So naturally, the film was ripe for sequel, and in 2023, the film Missing starring 19 year old Storm Reid was released in the theaters earning praise by critics and audience alike.Hangout with us, as we discuss and review 2023s MISSING on the Brothers in Armchairs Podcast. Our journey through "The Last of Us" continues with our penultimate recap of the season, covering episodes 6 and 7, titled "Kin" and "Left Behind." A brief detour in Jackson, Wyoming leads to another devastating flashback, this time focusing on Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and her tragic past. We discuss the trajectory of the series right before the finale while Derek breaks down the expectations and reality of the series as it relates to the games.
Do you know who made the absolute most out of her Hollywood breakout opportunity? Storm Reid. Not only is she exceptional in Ava DuVernay's adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, but ever since, she's been scooping up a wide variety of projects and delivering big in every single one including Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, playing Zendaya's sister in Euphoria, and then some. (Also, be sure to check out Reid's underseen pre-A Wrinkle in Time title, Sleight directed by J.D. Dillard.) Next up on Reid's list? A movie in the screen thriller subgenre, Missing, from the filmmakers behind 2018's Searching.Reid stars as June, a typical teenager who butts heads with her mother (Nia Long) and leaves the majority of her check-in text messages unanswered. June gets a hefty dose of that digital radio silence herself when her mom never returns from her trip to Colombia with her new boyfriend. Desperate to find her and frustrated with the significant amount of international red tape she encounters, June takes matters into her own hands by using every resource available to her online to track down her mother. In celebration of Missing's January 20th nationwide release, Reid took the time to join me for a Collider Ladies Night interview to revisit her journey from Matilda super fan to headlining her own thriller and appearing on the hit HBO series, The Last of Us.Note: This episode was recorded on January 10, 2023. We return to the computer screen in the new film Missing which takes place almost entirely on laptops and mobile phone screens. The film is from the creators of the 2018 film Searching, which we covered way back in Episode 22. The other special thing about this film is it stars Storm Reid, the lead girl from A Wrinkle in Time, which we covered in our very first Lodgecast and which gave us the Salad Dragon. In this movie Storm Reid's mom goes missing on a trip to Colombia and she does her best to track her down using the power of the Internet. It's got many twists and turns which we will spoil. It also stars Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, Daniel Henney, and Nia Long. Join us for a thrilling screenlife adventure!
