Het valt vooral op dat Visma | Lease a Bike het in een tijdrit verliest, want ook Matteo Jorgenson - die in tegenstelling tot Vingegaard wél zei goede benen te hebben - kreeg een pak op zijn donder. Terwijl de ploeg toch jarenlang leidend was op het gebied van tijdrijden. Dat zal pijn doen. De enige positieve verrassing in het hele verhaal was Europees kampioen Edoardo Affini, die derde werd tussen de supermensen.Evenepoel was van hen de allerbeste woensdagmiddag. De wereld- en olympisch kampioen zag een veel betere Pogačar, maar was dan weer niet verrast door het grote verlies van Vingegaard. De Belg had daar ook een verklaring voor: Vingegaard is de lichtste van de drie kleppers, waardoor hij qua absoluut vermogen sowieso het onderspit moet delven tegen hemzelf en Pogačar. De Deen had dan ook het parcours nog eens tegen én Evenpoel stipt aan dat hij en de Sloveen solo's in klassiekers kunnen rijden. Volgens hem is dat de reden voor het tijdsverlies van de Deen.Overigens blijft Evenepoel ook de headlines van de (inter)nationale wielermedia beheersen op een ander vlak. Andermaal zingt het gerucht rond dat hij na dit seizoen tussentijds naar Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe gaat vertrekken. Zijn oud-ploegbaas Patrick Lefevere was ook een dag in de Tour en moest de laatste jaren vaker met dat bijltje hakken. Volgens hem is er van een mug een olifant gemaakt. Zaterdag schalt voor het eerst 'C'EST PARTIiiiiiiii!'uit de speakers in Lille en vertrekken we voor drie weken koers dwars door Frankrijk. Dat eindigde vrijdag met wat opvallende nieuwtjes en de laatste tips voor je pooltje. Je hoort en ziet het in een nieuwe WielerFlits Update!Deze podcast wordt mede-mogelijk gemaakt door Alpecin DMG shampoo en de casual (wieler)kleding van Le Patron.Het was ook de dag van de laatste persconferenties. 's Ochtends was het de beurt aan Visma | Lease a Bike en Intermarché-Wanty, 's middags deden de renners bij Picnic PostNL hun verhaal. Daar leerden we toch het een en ander. Warren Barguil raadt renners namelijk aan om geen doel te maken van het bergklassement, Frank van den Broek verklapte de vier etappes waarin hij ten aanval hoopt te trekken, de sprintverdeling tussen Pavel Bittner en Tobias Lund Andresen werd uitgelegd en Oscar Onley mag tijd verliezen in het eerste deel van de Tour. Volgens de ploeg kan hij dan alsnog als achtste eindigen, bijvoorbeeld.Maxim en Youri stellen ook vast dat topfavorieten Tadej Pogačar en Jonas Vingegaard een beetje lief zijn voor elkaar. Beiden staken voor elkaar de loftrompet af. Maar misschien is dat juist wel omdat ze elkaar ook nodig hebben in die eerste helft van de Tour. Ook opvallend: naast Matteo Jorgenson is ook Simon Yates niet van plan om tijd te verliezen. En Wout van Aert mag voor ritzeges gaan, maar gaat het hoofddoel niet vergeten: geel veroveren met Vingegaard. En dus is het groen geen doel, net als voor Mathieu van der Poel niet. Zodoende gaan ze niet in op de lokroep van de ASO, die het puntenklassement juist voor hen aantrekkelijk heeft gemaakt.Diezelfde Van der Poel kondigde donderdag aan dat hij een partnerschap aangaat met een privéjet-bedrijf. De kritiek daarop nam een enorme vlucht, waardoor MVDP zich genoodzaakt voelde om erop te reageren. De uitleg die hij gaf, snijdt wel hout. En dan was er ook nog de op handen zijnde transfer van Dylan Groenewegen naar Unibet Tietema Rockets. Een flinke verrassing voor het gros van de mensen, maar vooral een mooie opsteker voor Bas Tietema, Josse Wester en Devin van der Wiel.
