ePower is to supply over 20 shopping centres across 14 counties nationwide with high speed EV charging points, following a partnership agreement with Lanthorn, which manages a portfolio of over €1.6bn of property throughout Ireland. Rollout will begin in 2025, and the sites where chargers will be installed include Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway, as well as busy urban areas like Navan, Dundalk, Mullingar, Athlone, Maynooth, Portlaoise and Kilkenny. ?ePower is working closely with Lanthorn in association with their project managers, KSNPM. ePower has been selected following a competitive process, which took into account the company's ability to offer high speed charging facilities, tailored specifically to each site, and crucially, the assurance that the sites would be maintained and serviced by ePower's 24/7 help desk, field engineering and remote management. Commenting on the development, John O'Keeffe, CEO of Power, said: "We're very proud to be part of the drive towards making electric vehicles a better choice for consumers. The rollout and delivery of chargers, be it through public or private partnerships, is key to this. Through this partnership with Lanthorn, ePower plans to have super-fast chargers installed at shopping centres around Ireland, from Donegal to Cork and many places in between; it's a great expansion for us in what's been a hugely successful year of growth." It's been a busy year for ePower; the company recently joined forces with Dublin's local authorities to bring online up to 200 fast chargers across the region in 2025. The initial phase of the project will see ePower's high-speed chargers installed at more than 40 Dublin locations across the four Dublin local authorities. The company also won six of 17 government contracts for the rollout of new high-speed electric car charging hubs across Ireland, due to be operational by the end of 2025. I meet a lot of very hard working people on this podcast and Donal Skehan must be up there with one of the hardest working of them all. He's a true grafter and someone I really admire. After spending years in the music industry, and with a couple of Irish number 1s under his belt, Donal followed his lifelong passion for food and created a remarkable career for himself in that world. He has over 11 cookbooks, countless TV shows, a meal planning web platform (donalskitchen.com), a collab with Dunnes Stores and many others strings to his bow.And on top of all that, Donal has recently become embroiled in a wonderfully frivolous and entertaining Eurosong feud, involving contenstent Samantha Mumba, and his fellow judges Laura Fox, Arthur Gourounlian and Bambi Thug. It has been described by comedian Joanne McNally as the “showbiz feud Ireland needs and deserves”, and personally I'd have to agree with her. So – yeah, no – I'm in Dunnes Stores in, like, the Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, grabbing a few bits for Sorcha, who's making a special dinner tonight. I dump my items on the checkout belt and make a mental note to find out if it's her birthday, or our wedding anniversary, when all of a sudden I hear an old woman's voice go, “Mind if I just go ahead of you there, son?” Hosted on Acast. It's claimed improvements in personal behaviour will be the driving force in stamping out littering in Ennis. The county town has fallen eight places in the latest Irish Business Against Litter rankings, which have just been published, with An Taisce's report determining the county town is no longer cleaner than European Norms. Ten sites in Ennis were assessed as part of the judging process. Half received an ‘A' Grade, beginning with the Westfield Housing Estate, where inspectors commended house-proud beautiful flower arrangements and a complete absence of litter. The dualcarriageway from Skehanagh Roundabout to Clare Abbey Roundabout was also recognised for its cleanliness, along with the approach road from the Kilrush Roundabout and the stretch from Rocky Road Roundabout to Kilrush Road Roundabout, which was described as a "very good impression, with a striking sculpture." Cathedral Court rounded off the top tier ratings for its "well maintained residential site." Merchants Square, O'Connell Street and Ennis Bus and Train Station each earned a B+ rating, with small amounts of litter noted in all. Notably, judges described the public realm enhancements as "looking fantastic" and the station to be "much improved from its condition two years ago." Issues with alcohol related litter in the grass and hedges were flagged at Kilrush Road Car Park, which received a B Grade. The worst performing area in Ennis, meanwhile, was Dunnes Stores, where the surface area car park and store entrance, gave "the overall impression of a littered environment." Most items were food related, along with significant quantities of receipts, with accumulations in trolley bays, grass verges and hedges. IBAL Spokesperson Conor Horgan says the issues in Ennis are not major and require improvements in personal habits. Ultimately Ennis was judged to be ‘clean to European Norms' and finished 13th overall in the Irish Business Against Litter League for 2024; falling eight places on its position from six months ago. Between March and September, Ennis Tidy Towns had a record number of volunteers collected an average of 20 bags of rubbish every night. Ennis Tidy Towns member and Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard says given their efforts, the result is disappointing, but believes there are simple initiatives that can change the tide. Overall, Naas retained top spot and was one of 13 towns cleaner than European Norms. Limerick City and Galway's Inner-City were both judged to be littered, while Dublin's North Inner City was the only ‘seriously littered' area nationwide.

Solidarity WorksForty years ago this month, ten workers from the Henry Street branch of Dunnes Stores in Dublin's city centre went on strike to protest against the selling of produce from Apartheid South Africa. A year later, the group was joined by another worker, Brendan Barron, from the Crumlin store, bringing their number to eleven. The strike lasted for almost three years. I remember it well. I joined the picket line a few times and Sinn Féin and An Phoblacht were firm supporters of the Dunnes Store strikers. Their courageous stand led to the Dublin government banning South African goods from Irish stores. The strike followed a decision by the Irish Distributive and Administrative Union IDATU, now the Mandate union, not to handle South African produce. Release Leonard Peltier Earlier this month 79 year old native American indigenous activist Leonard Peltier was denied parole. He won't be eligible now for another parole hearing until June 2026. His legal team will appeal the decision.Leonard has consistently denied that he was responsible for killing of two FBI agents in 1975. His family and supporters are now deeply concerned that after almost 50 years in prison that Leonard will die there as his health has severely deteriorated in recent years. Lies and HypocrisyLies, hypocrisy, double standards, starvation, and the mass murder of civilians have been essential tools in the Israeli government's genocidal war against the Palestinian people. Some have also been a feature of the policies and propaganda employed by those governments allied to Israel's war strategy. Last week Russian missiles destroyed much of a children's hospital in Kyiv. A wave of other similar attacks took place against cities across the Ukraine. There was justifiable criticism of Russia which this column shares. Meanwhile the deliberate destruction of so-called ‘safe zones' in Gaza by Israeli bombers continues using armaments supplied by western powers. Over a hundred and fifty Palestinians are known to have been killed. Many hundreds more have been left grievously injured trapped in a place that has almost no medical facilities or resources.

In this episode, Yvonne is joined by Julie Peelo the founder of PEELO the Irish premium handbag and accessories brand. Without realising it Julie has been using manifestation techniques to get herself to where she wanted to be at each stage of her life. At 23, she went to Italy without having a job lined up and not being able to speak Italian and worked across the world but came back to Ireland to become the design director for Ireland's largest retailer, Dunnes Stores and marry her soulmate. Before setting up PEELO she had worked at John Rocha in Dublin, Marni in Milan, and John Galliano's studio in Paris, DVF and was asked to re-invent the Juicy Couture brand. She and Yvonne discuss her journey and the role manifestation played. KEY TAKEAWAYS From a relatively early age Julie has followed her gut instincts and took risks. You cannot manifest something out of thin air. You have to take action, hustle for it, and work hard. When you see an opportunity, be brave and take it. Sometimes it can take a couple of years for everything to fall into place. Visualisation is enormously powerful for manifestation. The universe throws you challenges. Follow your gut when deciding how to tackle them. If bad things happen, decide what to do about it, then move on. BEST MOMENTS ‘You gotta hustle a little bit. I worked my ass off which got me an absolute dream job in my 20s. ´ ‘It was just really wild and creative.' ‘I am trying to target cruise ships because I think that would be interesting for my business.' Cork-based Velo Coffee Roasters is the first coffee roastery in Ireland to obtain the prestigious B Corp Certification, marking a significant milestone in the company's commitment to social and environmental responsibility. B Corp status is bestowed upon businesses dedicated to upholding the highest standards of positive impact on society and the environment. It evaluates a company's holistic social and environmental impact across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. Just over 30 businesses headquartered in Ireland hold this certification. Velo coffee roastery achieves B Corp status Suzanne Casey, General Manager of Velo Coffee Roasters said: "We are thrilled to achieve this gold standard of sustainability, and to be the first coffee roastery in Ireland to have done so. Our decision to pursue B-Corp certification stemmed from our genuine commitment to transparency - we want to adhere to comparable standards that will drive tangible change. The process involved a comprehensive evaluation of every part of our operations - from packaging choices to policies to sustainability targets. While the accreditation system was rigorous, it compelled us to be even better and optimise our operations for the betterment of the planet, which ultimately will foster trust among suppliers and customers alike." As part of its social and environmental responsibility, Velo, which is stocked in Dunnes Stores, Tesco, and premium SuperValu stores along with Aldi stores nationwide and in the UK, sources speciality coffee beans in collaboration with their partner Covoya. This ensures full traceability to the farm and fosters sustainable partnerships with farmers. The company, which employs 15, has just announced it's on track to invest over €7,000 this year into local community projects where it works, with a total of almost €20,000 invested in the past five years. The company's efforts include impactful initiatives such as supporting agricultural and social projects at origin, such as the Finca las Mercedes farm in El Salvador. By paying a premium on their coffee beans, Velo allows for funds to be directed back into the communities to support specific projects - including a new access bridge for a local school to shorten commutes and organising STEM education initiatives. Already recognised as an Origin Green Gold company, the B Corp certification is the next progression in Velo's journey toward social and environmental responsibility. With a commitment to continuous improvement and transparent reporting, Velo has also led the industry in sustainable packaging commitments, introducing completely recyclable packaging to their retail coffee in 2021. Suzanne added: "At Velo, our primary objective is to make a meaningful impact on communities. From our team members and loyal customers to our inspiring suppliers and local communities, we view Velo as a cohesive community. Coffee has the power to bring people together, and we aim to leverage that power through responsible sourcing and production." Velo Coffee Roasters was established in 2018 by cafe owner Rob Horgan. The coffee was initially roasted on-site in the café managed by Suzanne Casey. After the success on the Grow With Aldi programme in 2018, Velo Coffee Roasters moved to a purpose-designed facility in Mayfield Business Park, Cork city in 2019 with Rob and Suzanne both moving into the roasting business full-time. Today, they run a successful e-commerce business and have recently sold their one-millionth bag of coffee in Aldi Ireland, while also launching into Aldi UK. See more breaking stories here. Last weekend, millionaire businessman and former Dunnes Stores chief executive Ben Dunne died suddenly in Dubai. He was 74 years of age,In 1992, Dunne made headlines again when he was arrested in his Florida hotel room for cocaine possession. Shortly afterwards, back in Ireland, Dunne's siblings moved against him to wrest control of Dunnes Stores from him. It was this intense family feud that led to journalists exposing Ireland's deeply entrenched political and financial corruption in the 1980s and 1990s.Had it not been for Dunne's cocaine-fuelled psychosis in Florida, would the revelations of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey's secret financial dealings ever have happened? On today's podcast, columnist Fintan O'Toole reflects on Dunne's eventful life and the extraordinary impact he had on Ireland.Presented by Sorcha Pollak. In this Global Irish conversation, we search for the true origins of Western Civilization with a most global of guests, Naoíse Mac Sweeney, author of The West: A New History in Fourteen Lives. Her father is from Cork City, her mother is Malaysian Chinese, she grew up in London, studied the Greek and Roman world, and is a professor of classical archaeology at the University of Vienna. And to make her even more global, her husband is from Malta, which we visited in our episode with Malta's ambassador to Ireland, Giovanni Buttigeig. She tells of how both Greek and Irish mythology pulled her into the ancient world, through the lure of the ancient Greek diaspora communities, her fascination with Troy, and her growing realization that “Western Civilization”—the concept of a single cultural inheritance extending from ancient Greece to modern times—is really a figment of our collective imagination. In The West, our award-winning guest thoroughly debunks that figment through the stories of fourteen figures who each played a role in the creation of the Western idea—from Herodotus, a mixed-race migrant, to Phylis Wheatley, an enslaved African American who became a literary sensation. From these narratives, a more nuanced, expansive, and intriguing view of the West emerges.Naoíse wraps up Irish Stew with the most unexpected “Seamus Plug” to date, which got your co-hosts thinking of approaching Dunnes Stores for sponsorship. And we'll happily endorse her comment early in the conversation, when she said, “part of the joy of following Irish Stew is to hear the origin stories of so many people in the diaspora.”Links:The West: A New History in Fourteen Lives Smithsonian Magazine: “The Myth of the ‘Dark Ages' Ignores How Classical Traditions Flourished Around the World,” University of Vienna: Naoise Mac SweeneySeamus Plug: Dunnes Strores, Helen James plates

Getting to drop off is hard enough without your kid refusing to go into school! Jar and Tina get an email from a parent who finds herself in the worst drop off scenario. Tina has seen it all with her 20 years of experience in behaviour and early intervention but is there a silver bullet for the clinging behaviour or do we just have to grin and act like it's not happening? The teenage years just got a lot scarier. With phones available to film their antics, teens and pre teens are making decisions that could change their life forever. Listen to this parent explain what is going on in their house and you might think twice about issuing a smart phone to your kid. Can a family meeting and some basic security checks prevent the online shaming of a sibling? A return listener gets in touch to explain that the original strategy Tina provided has worked but now she has a new problem. Her daughter picks at her finger until it bleeds which leads infection. She needs help fast. Tina and Jarlath struggle with this one as everything she's doing is exactly what they would suggest. They try and guide her through upping the rewards and making her plaster game more fancy pants. A very tough question to receive but there's even more over on Patreon.com/irishmanabroad - bonus episodes / XL episodes and a range of other podcasts to keep you company during night feeds or those precious times you get to yourself. Jarlath thinks you should be allowed monitor your kid's movements at all times even if that means installing an air-tag on their shoes. Tina disagrees. What's your take on this one? Is chipping your kid a step too far in overseeing their behaviour or will it become the norm in years to come? You can't completely avoid the stress of being a parent but you can get your groceries delivered to your door. And that should help. You're not the only parent on the verge of losing it completely with your kids. How can you reach a kid that appears spoiled beyond repair? We hear from one mom who can't handle her child's entitled behaviour anymore. Tina has some tactics to help those of us that are trying to ignore the most disrespectful little darlings. How do you get the respect back to where it should be fast. Is Dad the good guy and Mom the enforcer in your house? Does your kid treat both parents alike or do they save all the glorious annoying stuff for you? Tina has seen it all before and knows the fastest way back to a respectful fun home. WhatsApp groups are back to haunt us! How do we teach our children to manage this new social jungle. What is the etiquette of the WhatsApp group when nothing seems to be set in stone? How do you condition your child to observe the "dos and don'ts" of text messaging. It's a struggle for grownups. What chance do our kids have? Thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel. This week's episode finishes with our favourite and bravest question yet. What can we expect from relatives we have entrusted with our kids for the day? If you leave your child in their care are you entitled to updates or is a physically well child all you can hope for? Should you just have to be grateful to have the help. We absolutely disagree on this one. Get in touch by emailing - honeyyouareruiningourkid@gmail.com - if you have a different answer. We need to hear from you? How are you coping? Not every questions have to be read out on the show but Tina replies to them all. Our proud partner for this episode is buymie.ie - Dunnes Stores groceries delivered to your home in as little as an hour? That will definitely help your parenting stress levels go down.
