In “Tickled”, a story stranger than fiction, journalist David Farrier and filmmaker Dylan Reeve uncover a strange tickling subculture. Delving deeper into the dark world of a tickling competition, they are with fierce resistance as they uncover a dark empire ensnaring and exploiting vulnerable young men. Dylan shares with Tiller how he and his co-director David Farrier blindly stumbled into this story (1:00), why they had to reshoot virtually everything (11:00, getting threats the deeper they went down the rabbit hole (18:30), the lies and bravery of his main characters (30:00), when they realized the film had transitioned from silly to dark and investigative (34:00), and the enduring legacy of making a film like this (41:00). “Grandma, would you tell us that old adage again?” “Yes dears. A long time ago, your ancestors used to say: if all the computers in the world shut down, it's because the furries logged off for a day.” In this season 6 premiere, Hannah and Maia chat about the most maligned subculture on the internet: furries - a group of people with an above-average interest in anthropomorphic creatures, who everyone seems to despise. Thanks to some unflattering depictions in popular media like CSI and the Tyra Show, the world believes furries to be a group of maladjusted sexual deviants. But have furries gotten a bad rap? Is it really sexual deviancy, or a post-humanist movement that has been way ahead of us this whole time? We may very well be f*cking with the wrong group of people (after all, they created their own ISP before the White House did). Tangents include: the emotional power of Aquamarine, Tyra teaching Hannah about Islamophobia, and the Kyle Jenner-ification of My Little Pony. REBROADCAST PARTY PLEASER: In this rebroadcasted episode (originally released June 28th, 2022) you'll hear Daniel and Melvin discuss one of the single-most bizarre stories to come from the documentary world. Journalist David Farrier stumbles upon the strange world of Competitive Endurance Tickling. What ensues is a long-stretching borderline "true-crime" drama of Jane O'brien Media.Topics: Tickled, as an experience, triggers everything: disgust, surprise, laughter, mockery, heartbreak, excitement, intrigue. It's the full package. Detailing caveats to engaging this movie, because there's no getting around it; the tickling is fetishistic. Beginning the long, twisted adventure of explaining Tickled from start to finish. Competitive Endurance Tickling... except they never explain how to win? How much would they have to pay Melvin to do one of these videos? Detailing how Jane O'Brien Media manipulated and harassed talent that merely said 'no'.Discussing the cultural strangeness of the West which dictates that men cannot be physical by any means without putting their sexuality in question, despite it being typical in other countries for comfortably heterosexual men to hold hands or be physically closer to one another.Getting into the subsequent 20-minute short-doc The Tickle King which details continued interventions from Jane O'Brien Media during the events of Tickled's festival and limited theater run, including a damning final confrontation. The final tragic nail in the coffin of the Tickled saga.Discussing the potential availabilities of certain sexual fetishes, regarding they adhere appropriately to biblical sexuality (basking in one another's beauty, other-oriented satisfactory experiences, and honoring each other's image-bearing nature).Recommendations: The Wolfpack (2015) (Documentary)Welcome to Leith (2015) (Documentary) The Drama of Scripture, Second Edition Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks! This week, we bring you our strong opinions and thoughts on the documentary, Tickled (2016) and its relation on a subplot in Riverdale. Tickled is a 2016 documentary brought to us by David Farrier and Dylan Reeve, who traveled to the United States from New Zealand in pursuit of learning more about the United States Extreme Tickling Competitions. If you haven't seen this season of Riverdale, be warned you might be slightly spoiled, but for our non-Riverdale watchers, you do not need to have any background knowledge to follow along. Warning: This episode is a little darker in terms of its subject - we speak briefly about what is covered in the doc and how these main media "tickling rings" are used to manipulate the underprivileged as well as how they use derogatory language around homosexuality (none of which is used or said in the recording of this podcast). It's not what you think. After stumbling upon a bizarre "competitive endurance tickling" video online, wherein young men are paid to be tied up and tickled, reporter David Farrier reaches out to request a story from the company. But the reply he receives is shocking-the sender mocks Farrier's sexual orientation and threatens extreme legal action should he dig any deeper. So, like any good journalist confronted by a bully, he does just the opposite: he travels to the hidden tickling facilities in Los Angeles and uncovers a vast empire, known for harassing and harming the lives of those who protest their involvement in these films. The more he investigates, the stranger it gets, discovering secret identities and criminal activity. Discovering the truth becomes Farrier's obsession, despite increasingly sinister threats and warnings. With humor and determination, Farrier and co-director Dylan Reeve summon up every resource available to get to the bottom of this tickling worm hole.

Fetish or sport? That’s what New Zealand TV journalist David Farrier wondered when he came across online videos of athletic young men in sports uniforms being tickled. The videos were billed as “Competitive Endurance Tickling.” Farrier reached out to the American video producer Jane O’Brien Media for an interview. They replied with a stream of […] The post PN 12: Talking “Tickled” with David Farrier & Dylan Reeve appeared first on Pure Nonfiction.

Episode 17 of One Week Only! This week our key film is the incredible documentary "Tickled" about the dark underworld of Competitive Endurance Tickling. It's one of the strangest stories you'll hear all year, and it's an exhilarating documentary with unbelievable twists you won't see coming. Directed by David Farrier & Dylan Reeve, from Magnolia Pictures. This week on "Not Yet in Theatres" we're covering "Lilith's Awakening," a black-and-white feminist vampire horror film that had it's World Premiere at Dances With Films. We talk with director Monica Demes and actress Barbara Eugenia about shooting the film in Iowa and getting script advice from none other than David Lynch. We also talk about "Raiders! The story of the greatest fan film ever made" about the cult remake of "Raiders of the Lost Arc" made by teenagers, crazy comedy "Cosmos" by Andrzej Zulawski, heartbreaking documentary "My Love, Don't Cross that River" from South Korea, and Colombian drama "Land and Shade" which won the Camera D'Or at last year's Cannes Film Festival. Hosted by Carlos Aguilar & Conor Holt. Music by www.incompetech.com
One of the most talked-about films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, TICKLED begins with reporter David Farrier stumbling upon a bizarre “competitive endurance tickling” video online, wherein young men are paid to be tied up and tickled, and reaching out to request a story from the company. But the reply he receives is shocking—the sender mocks Farrier's sexual orientation and threatens extreme legal action should he dig any deeper. Discovering the truth becomes Farrier’s obsession, despite increasingly sinister threats and warnings. With humor and determination, Farrier and co-director Dylan Reeve summon up every resource available to get to the bottom of this tickling worm-hole. Reeve joins us for a conversation on the world of competitive tickling, the competitors and promoters involved in tickling as well as the litigious and threatening environment that making TICKLED has engendered. Dan Slevin chats to Tickled co-director Dylan Reeve about the making of the film and what makes a documentary 'cinematic'.
Once again, Dan Slevin is filling in for Simon Morris and this week he reviews X-Men: Apocalypse, in which our mutant heroes defend the planet from an ancient Egyptian mutant who thinks he is a god; City of Gold, a documentary about the acclaimed Los Angeles food writer Jonathan Gold and Dan talks to Dylan Reeve, co-director of the brilliant new Kiwi documentary, Tickled.
One of the oddest documentaries you're likely to see, as evidenced by the interest from audiences at Sundance and beyond, TICKLED opens in NZ cinemas on May 26. David Farrier joins us on the phone from Canada, while Dylan Reeve joins Steve Newall and Liam Maguren in the Little Empire studio. Thanks to Tim Batt and Little Empire for engineering this episode.
