(halfway) BACK from the dead to dig through the ABOMINATION called California Son (2019) with the REAL California son Glen Rockney of Rare Candy I love Morrissey. You love your uncle. We're the same person. SECOND episode of a limited 8pl8s series on Steven Patrick Morrissey (/ˈmɒrɪsi/ MORR-iss-ee; born 22 May 1959), known mononymously as Morrissey. While he's most well-known for his contribution to The Smiths, his solo work is some of the most personal, touching music I've ever had the privilege of hearing. A privilege I indulge in on a daily basis. MOZNAISSANCE 02: California Son (2019) -- OUT NOW ON SPOTIFY / APPLE PODS / ETC. Tracklist: 1 - Morning Starship (Ft. Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear helped shaped the sound of modern indie music. Across their five albums they layered intricate and nuanced guitar music with choirboy vocals and a whole lotta heart. They broke through in 2006 with their second album, Yellow House, but it was 2009's Veckatimist which took Grizzly Bear to a whole new plane and became one of the most loved albums of the decade. To mark its 15th anniversary, I'm throwing back to a brilliant chat I had with frontman and founding member, Ed Droste back in 2018. Ed is a gorgeous human, and I have such fond memories of this conversation. With Grizzly Bear's layered music in mind, I gave him the theme “songs that unravel.” Beach House - 'Master of None'Björk - 'Army of Me'Pavement - 'Fight This Generation'Aaliyah - 'One In A Million'Adele - 'Rolling In The Deep' (Jamie xx Shuffle)This episode was originally broadcast in 2018.

This week it was reported that Ed Droste of the fine art-rock band Grizzly Bear is now working as a therapist (:25). That this was news at all speaks to the weird navieté that we as indie-rock fans have about the financial realities of the musicians we love. Steven and Ian begin the episode by talking about the "Joe jobs" of indie-rock lifers, and the potential "indie star to therapist" pipe line. From there, the guys talk about Steven's recent column on the best soundtrack albums of all-time, and why the golden age for soundtracks is from the mid-'80s to the early '00s. While it's true that a big film like Barbie can still spin off a successful soundtrack, the golden age of B and C-tier soundtracks — when an otherwise forgotten film like 1993's Judgment Night can be paired with a famous soundtrack — seems to be over (11:08).After that, Steven and Ian review new albums by hardcore collective The Armed and the Chicago guitar-pop band Ratboys (27:39). In Recommendation Corner (56:01), Ian praises the bloghouse throwback DJ Sabrina The Teenage DJ and Steven gives the nod to the new solo album from Big Thief guitarist Buck Meek.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. It's our first pod of 2022! And so much is happening. Mich and Dan catch up about her covid-safe Italian adventures, West Side Story, Don't Look Up, and a quick Sistine Chapel rendezvous. Then Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear) joins Michelle to cosplay those horrible kids who study abroad in Europe and return with an accent. They discuss problematic movies with A-listers, leaving the music business, the wonders of travel, and the tragic downfall of Soho House.
The four piece Brooklyn indie rock band "Grizzly Bear" originally started out as a collection of songs written and recorded by frontman Ed Droste, however feeling that he didn't want to release a solo project, or shine the light on himself, he ended up recruiting fellow musicians Christopher Bear, Chris Taylor and Daniel Rossen in order to bring his project to the live stage, and for a debut US tour.Since those early days the band have released five studio albums and toured the world, opening for massive acts such as Radiohead, and have even composed songs for the "Twilight" movies.Their last album dropped in 2017 and Ed Droste has since announced he has left the band. The future for "Grizzly Bear" may be uncertain, but what is for sure is that they have put out a solid back-catalogue of impressive material and in this episode Jay and Jesse discuss the band's early formation, their approach to music and the guys spin some of their favorite tracks from across the five albums."Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.https://www.signlradio.comhttps://www.instagram.com/signlradiohttps://www.twitter.com/signlradiohttps://www.facebook.com/signlradiohttps://www.mixcloud.com/signlhttps://open.spotify.com/user/96mhz6qfjoztxbl2dpm0uj903?si=aAZpsoEnRAKdx85kr1QWhg

This episode digs into the Brooklyn quartet formed in 2002 consisting of Ed Droste, Daniel Rossen, Chris Taylor and Christopher Bear. A band with an ethereal and searching sound, a sweet counterpoint to the current climate. A group that boasts exceptionally intricate musicianship, discovering plateaus of indie-folk-rock not yet found or even attempted.

It's not every day that a rock star becomes a therapist and then eats lunch and comes on a podcast to analyze it, but that's precisely what happens in today's episode of Lunch Therapy with former Grizzly Bear front man, Ed Droste. Learn why Ed decided to give up the not-so-glamorous life of a musician, the kind of food he ate on the road, how he dealt with reviews and Tweets, how he got over his stage fright, and the role therapy played in his life. We also talk about Ed's parents' adventurous eating, loving lobster but hating the juicy explosions, how he makes a salad, Postematesing from Sqirl, his obsession with candles, and how his neighbor roasts a chicken. From 2008: I was a correspondent for the St. Petersburg Times back in 1983, and I convinced my editor that we should write about these Hooters guys, of which Ed Droste was one of the six co-founders. It’s a story I have gone back to over the years because it’s never gotten dull. The company has hundreds of restaurants in dozens of countries, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in October. And nobody understands what gets the media’s attention better than Ed Droste.
As founding member for Grizzly Bear, Ed Droste has shaped the sound of modern indie music. Across five albums, the American band have layered intricate and nuanced guitar music with choirboy vocals and a lot of heart. Their breakthrough album was Yellow House, but since then they've held fans enraptured and toured Australia multiple times over the years. Their latest album is Painted Ruins, a record that came after a five year break from the band. With Grizzly Bear's layered music in mind, I gave Ed the theme “songs that unravel.” The mid 90's reigned supreme as the meat in this sandwich, but he really did go all over the place and spoke about the songs he loved as well as the time we're living in, as music fans. From album vs playlist culture, to the risks we take in music, this is a wonderful conversation not only diving into his own collection but his deepest thoughts on the state of the industry. Beach House - 'Master of None' Bjork - 'Army of Me' Pavement - 'Fight This Generation' Aaliyah - 'One In A Million' Adele - 'Rolling In The Deep' (Jamie xx Shuffle)

Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes. Source: WikipediaThis show features the Three Songs EP from hirsute Baroque-folker Robin Pecknold, better known as the frontman of Seattle's Fleet Foxes. The EP was somewhat clandestinely released via Fleet Foxes' Twitter account on March 7. The tracks should help sate the appetite of fans anxiously awaiting the sophomore record from the band, which is slated for release on May 3. Though Pecknold (and his amazing set of pipes) are behind these tracks, they're quieter and less layered than full band tracks. I'm particularly fond of the first cut featuring Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. Download the EP below and enjoy with your favorite amber-colored libation.Robin Pecknold - I'm Losing Myself feat.
