The biggest story in North Carolina politics right now remains the unsettled race for a seat on the state Supreme Court. A stroll through the woods listening to one summer last fall causes us to wonder who we've become. What is this Toxic Trace in the air? Let's think about Vincent instead and realize that Oka is everywhere. I guess we have no friends anymore.

Today's return guest is a Mark O. Hatfield (R, Oregon) type of Republican, Dr. Vernon Grounds, Ph.D., former Chancellor, President, and long-time professor of Philosophy and Psychology, and founder of the Counseling Department at Denver Seminary, where TRP's host Dr. Lucas J. Mather, Ph.D. knew Dr. Grounds during Dr. Mather's graduate student days. Dr. Grounds taught in the philosophy department as well courses on Existentialism and Christian worldview. Our topic today on The Republican Professor Podcast is emotional problems and American Politics. Last Fall, we did a series on Anxiety and American Politics. Last Spring we did a series on Hatred and Anger in the Normative Christian Tradition. We return today with a focus on the concepts and phenomena of Pride in Biblical and Political Phenomenology in the American context. You've probably noticed the relevance to American Politics if you're paying attention. I can think of no better guest than Dr. Grounds, who is a rare bird in that he was one of the first to get the in depth Psychology training--a Ph.D. in Psychology--and applied that to Christian ministry and Apologetics. Dr. Grounds got his bachelors from Rutgers during the Great Depression, and struggled mightily with his Christian faith. He got seminary training, and later a Ph.D. in Psychology from Drew University, where he wrote a dissertation on the concept of love in the thought of Sigmund Freud. He wrote several books, but the one we discuss and read from today is his "Emotional Problems and the Gospel" (Zondervan, 1976). Last Fall, I ran a special giveaway to my listeners and the winner would win a Past Life Regression with me. I really enjoyed connecting with the winner to see how I can help her today. One of the things she wanted to learn more about was the relationship dynamics with her sister in law. Overtime, their relationship became strained and due to this strain, my clients relationship with her brother suffered the consequences. It's been a while since the session, but I believe they were not on speaking terms. One of the benefits of exploring a past life is tapping into the unresolved issues that might resurface while recalling a past life. Addressing these underlying issues through hypnosis can lead to healing or having more patience or even closure for some. When we spoke initially, My client shared an interesting story …..that she was married with 2 children and thought she was complete until she began having reoccurring dreams about a little boy, a little soul wanting to be born. Intuitively, she knew what this was…but the thought of having another child and starting over is a big decision, as many of us can relate to this. So…I wanted to surprise her at the end of her session. This surprise gave her the clarity that she needed. The last year of the First World War was one of startling about turns in fortune. In the spring, making highly effective use of a different approach to artillery in combination with new tactics for infantry, the Germans broke through the British lines in France. It looked for a moment as though victory might be in their grasp. But clever tactics weren't enough once they were through the lines, since to turn the British around and drive them back to the sea needed something more: massive numbers of men. And they didn't have them. Not that the Germans learned the lesson. They kept trying, in offensive after offensive, against both the British and the French, at one point getting right back to the Marne and threatening Paris once again. But they were blocked each time. What was worst for them is that as they started to run out of men – and they lost 1.1 million in all those offensives – the Allies were getting huge reinforcements. The American Expeditionary Force was seriously increasing its numbers in France and, indeed, beginning to win some battles. Slowly the tables turned. By the autumn, far from seeming to be on the brink of victory, the Germans began to look defeated. And the other Central Powers were cracking too. Bulgaria, Turkey and Austria-Hungary signed armistices with the Allies from late October into early November. Finally, the Germans too asked for it all to end. And on 11 November at 11:00 – eleven o'clock on the eleventh day of the eleventh month – they signed their own armistice. The guns, at last, fell silent. Last Fall, the World Health Organization declared that loneliness is a threat to our well-being. In fact, it can be just as detrimental to our health as smoking, excessive alcohol intake, or obesity. I think for most of us, this is shocking news because we tend to separate our emotional and mental health from our physical health, but this just shows how interconnected these areas are. They went on to say that people who are socially isolated tend to have a higher risk of anxiety, depression, dementia, and stroke. What is it about social connection that is so protective? How can we tap into that? Friday, February 23: Wrestling With Sales: Author Of The Last Fall Sheldon Goldberg by FiredUp Network
What is happening under the guise of public education is both frightening and appalling. Last Fall we learned of a Christian student who filed a religious discrimination lawsuit indicating she was ordered by Chicago Public School staff members to meditate during a required quiet time. She was told to bow to deity that she didn't recognize and to internalize mantras in order to reach -Zen.- --Other school districts have required students to memorize the Islamic pillars of faith and even take a field trip to a mosque. Textbooks have been rewritten to push Critical Race Theory and a false accounting of our nation's history. Planned Parenthood has been invited into schools for their services. Then there's the account earlier this month of a drag-queen teacher in West Virginia that was arrested on child sexual exploitation charges. In Colorado, legislation is being considered that would require the state's public and charter schools to socially transition any gender-confused student by adopting that child's preferred name and pronouns. Finally, the U.S. Department of Education has submitted to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget it's final Title IX rule that would force widespread recognition of LGBT identities throughout the entire education system in America. --Is all of this just happenstance or is there history proving that the education system has been steered toward this result-- Returning to Crosstalk to answer that question was Alex Newman. Alex is an award-winning international freelance journalist, author, researcher, educator and consultant. He's senior editor for The New American and co-author of Crimes of the Educators.

If you're a podcaster who has dreamed of having your own book, you'll love today's episode! Last Fall, my good friend Jody Maberry and I co-led a webinar called “Podcast to Published.” The goal of the webinar was to test-drive some material we may later use to help podcasters use their podcast material as the basis for a book. I've been podcasting since 2013, and I'm a huge fan of repurposing your podcast content into books. Let me tell you a bit about Jody. He's a former Park Ranger who is now a sought-after podcast producer, speaker, and consultant. He's been featured in Inc., Entrepreneur, The Business Journals, at Podcast Movement, and many other places. Jody works closely with business leaders such as David Hancock, Lee Cockerell, Dan Cockerell, and others to bring their podcasts to life. In addition, he hosts three of his own podcasts: The Jody Maberry Show, The Park Leaders Show (for Park Rangers), and In the Front Row, a show he created for his son. Jody is not only one of the most brilliant minds in podcasting, but a kind and generous human being as well. I encourage you to check out Jody's site at https://jodymaberry.com to find out more. In this webinar, you'll learn all about the benefits of turning your podcast into a book, including what kind of book you should write based on your podcast, how to outline a great nonfiction book, and the steps to move from podcast to published book. * * * Today's episode is sponsored by Karen Hunsanger, an incredible editor known as “The Word Wizard.” I've worked with Karen many times, and she is your secret weapon for crafting the highest-quality book possible. They fell through the sky holding hands, laughing and smiling. They let go of each other, preparing to open their parachutes. The fleeting feeling of happy exhilaration was followed by fear and dread as Els Van Doren discovered that hers wouldn't open properly. From the sky, her teammates watched as she plunged to the ground screaming. As the investigation unraveled, like the strings of her parachute, it was discovered that the cords had been cut. She had been murdered. Today on The Call Room Rising Stars is Nicki Southerland! If you're not familar with Nicki, she won her state title in the 1600-meter run and took second in the 800 this past spring, clocking a personal-best time in both events, with her 1600 (4:43.73) and 2:05.06 in the 800. She went on to win the mile and finished second in the 800 at the national RunningLane Championships, capturing All-America honors in both events. The Assistant Professor of Football: Soccer, Culture, History.
On Thursday, November 2nd, the second largest city of Austria, Graz, will see its second soccer derby in the last 16 years, in the Austrian cup tournament. Sturm Graz, currently leaders of the Austrian Bundesliga and Europa League starters, face GAK (Graz Athletic Sports Club), the city's oldest club, its first one to win a national title, and currently on the verge of returning to the 1st tier. This episode hits close to home: 20 years ago, in elementary school, I attended my first Sturm Graz game. Sturm was fighting relegation that season. My dad, a life long fan, took me. I went in as a neutral, and went out mesmerized - not only by the game, but even more so by what went on in the stands, the sights, the smells, the language and the social and cultural prism in the old, crammed Sturm ground. Last Fall, the first derby in 15 years was on, again in the cup. I was in Austria at the time, and gathered at Sturm's old ground before the game, with thousands of fellow supporters and one of today's guests. You can find some photos here. (We won the actual derby 1-0 )Two guests will help me walk through the history of both clubs, especially the drama and bankruptcies of the last 20 years, the culture and vibe that each club has, the rivalry, and also what they share in common. Fabio Schaupp is a soccer professional. A lifelong GAK fan and former player, he is currently the sporting director of Austrian 3rd league team FC Weiz. Peter K. Wagner is the chief editor of Graz's street newspaper, the Megaphon, also a football journalist, and a lifelong fan of Sturm. Together, they produce a wonderful and funny and insightful weekly podcast on the vibe of the Austrian 1st league.HELPFUL LINKS FOR THIS EPISODE:Graz Derby 2022, fans in action (Youtube)Sturm Fans compilation (Youtube)GAK Fans in the 3rd league (Youtube)Graz Derby statistics, German WikipediaGraz Tourism: book your soccer vacation now ;)The Guardian (2016), “Why Avant Garde Graz is Vienna's Cooler Little Sister”Please leave a quick voicemail with any feedback, corrections, suggestions - or just greetings - HERE. This talk holds a special place in Tara's heart. Last Fall she had the honor of talking to an incredible young woman who landed in Deia during the Pandemic with her small baby. She's a punk rocker, a documentary filmmaker, and a journalist, Hannah Brooks. After a long and arduous journey with addiction, Hannah and her partner were creating a life together here in Deia when her partner suddenly had a fatal relapse, not very long after their talk. It was for this reason that Tara was hesitant to release the talk, but after recently speaking with Hannah, they are both ready to share their talk, and Tara looks forward to having Hannah back on. Warning that we do discuss addiction.

Last Fall, our first children's book “Lucky Cat” made its way onto bookshelves all around the world. Since then, we've had such a heartwarming response from parents and kids who have loved June and her family's story as immigrants in America, along with their adorable and magical Lucky Cat. Writing a children's book has always been a “blue-sky goal” for us, and we're so proud to share our journey with you all today, a process that stretched over the course of several years. From being contacted by a UK publisher, to where we found inspiration for the story, and the several drafts of revisions, we really got a crash course in what it takes for a book to come to life! Joining us to discuss our creative process is our amazing illustrator, Eunice Chen. Eunice is an Asian-American artist who lives in New York City with her husband, son, and corgi. After building a 10-year career in education, she returned to her childhood love of art, which led her to our stunning picture book that you can hold in your hands today! We are currently holding a book drive to donate 2,500 copies of “Lucky Cat” to libraries and early childhood literacy. Join us in bringing greater representation in children's storytelling and sharing the Lucky Cat story!
