Chapter 10 - Hallowe'enQ1 - Is it shady that McG has bought a Nimbus Two Thousand — the current best broomstick in the world — for Harry?“Potter's been sent a broomstick, Professor,” said Malfoy quickly. “Yes, yes, that's right,” said Professor Flitwick, beaming at Harry. “Professor McGonagall told me all about the special circumstances, Potter. And what Model is it?” “A Nimbus Two Thousand, sir,” said Harry, fighting not to laugh at the look of horror on Malfoy's face. “And it's really thanks to Malfoy here that I've got it,” he added.Q2 - Is the Snitch worth too many points?Ron looked still more awkward at this [news Hermione was crying and wanted to be left alone], but a moment later they had entered the Great Hall, where the Hallowe'en decorations put Hermione out of their minds.Q3 - What position would you want to play in Quidditch?Q4 - Theories on how on earth someone could smuggle a troll into the castle?Q5 - Why didn't Hermione tell the truth?Q6 - Is five points a little too skimpy for two first years taking on a mountain troll and winning?Q7 - The point system at Hogwarts seems absolutely arbitrary, do you think there is a rule book for the point system? But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend. There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.IlvermornyMarble statues of Isolt and James flank the front doors of Ilvermorny Castle. The doors open onto a circular room topped by a glass cupola. A wooden balcony runs around the room one floor above. Otherwise the space is empty except for four enormous wooden carvings representing the houses: the Horned Serpent, the panther Wampus, the Thunderbird and the Pukwudgie. While the rest of the school watches from the circular balcony overhead, new students file into the round entrance hall. They stand around the walls and, one by one, are called to stand on the symbol of the Gordian Knot set into the middle of the stone floor. In silence the school then waits for the enchanted carvings to react. If the Horned Serpent wants the student, the crystal set into its forehead will light up. If the Wampus wants the student, it roars. The Thunderbird signifies its approval by beating its wings, and the Pukwudgie will raise its arrow into the air.Should more than one carving signify its wish to include the student in its house, the choice rests with the student. Very rarely – perhaps once a decade – a student is offered a place in all four houses. Seraphina Picquery, President of MACUSA 1920 - 1928, was the only witch of her generation so honored, and she chose Horned Serpent. It is sometimes said of the Ilvermorny houses that they represent the whole witch or wizard: the mind is represented by Horned Serpent; the body, Wampus; the heart, Pukwudgie and the soul, Thunderbird. Others say that Horned Serpent favours scholars, Wampus, warriors, Pukwudgie, healers and Thunderbird, adventurers.Chapter 11 - QuidditchQ1 - How much would you pay to watch the Quidditch World Cup match in 1473 that had all seven-hundred ways to commit a foul committed?Harry thought Flint looked as if he had some troll blood in him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the fluttering banner high above, flashing Potter for President over the crowd. His heart skipped. He felt braver.Q2 - How do we feel about Lee Jordan shooting his shot with Angelina during his commentary for the match?Q3 - The Weasleys are poor, how does one of the twins have a gold wristwatch?Q4 - Should they have magical protection for the players during a quidditch match?Q5 - What do you think about Quidditch?Q6 - What do you think about Snape jinxing Harry?Chapter 12 - The Mirror Of ErisedSo Malfoy, jealous and angry, had gone back to taunting Harry about having no proper family.Q1 - The wizarding world needs google? This book is kinda at the dawn of the internet, so Hogwarts probably isn't set with a computer lab, and most tech doesn't work around Hogwarts, but how much time would they save with a google search?“And you could ask your parents if they know who Flamel is,” said Ron. “It'd be safe to ask them.” “Very safe, as they're both dentists,” said Hermione.“Will you look at this? I've got presents!” “What did you expect, turnips?”Q2 - How much would you pay for a Weasley jumper?Something fluid and silvery gray went slithering to the floor, where it lay in gleaming folds. Ron gasped. “I've heard of those,” he said in a hushed voice, dropping the box of Every-Flavor Beans he's got from Hermione. “If that's what I think it is — they're really rare, and really valuable.” “What is it?” Harry picked the shining, silvery cloth off the floor. It was strange to the touch like water woven into material. “It's an invisibility cloak,” said Ron, a look of awe on his face.Q3 - Who did you think the cloak was from on the first read?Q4 - Is a hundred fat, roast turkeys excessive for the amount of kids likely staying at Hogwarts for Christmas?Q5 - Is it irresponsible to give an eleven year-old an invisibility cloak and just say “use it well?Q6 - Did you catch the riddle of the inscription on the mirror: Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi? He looked in the mirror again. A woman standing right behind his reflection was smiling at him and waving. He reached out a hand and felt the air behind him. If she was really there, he'd touch her, their reflections were so close together, but he only felt air — and she and the others existed only in the mirror.Harry was so close to the mirror now that his nose was nearly touching that of his reflection. “Mum?” he whispered. “Dad?”Harry was looking at his family, for the first time in his life. The potters smiled and waved at Harry and he stared hungrily back at them, his hands pressed flat against the glass as though he was hoping to fall right through it and reach them. He had a powerful kind of ache inside him, half joy, half terrible sadness. How long he stood there, he didn't know. The reflections did not fade and he looked and looked until a distant noise brought him back to his senses. He couldn't stay here, he had to find his way back to bed. He tore his eyes away from his mothers face, whispered, “I'll come back,” and hurried from the room.Q7 - This is way too personal, and I'm not going to ask this, but what would you see in the mirror?“So — back again, Harry?” Harry felt as though his insides had turned to ice. He looked behind him. Sitting on one of the desks by the wall was none other than Albus Dumbledore. Harry must have walked straight past him, so desperate to get to the mirror he hadn't notices him. “I — I didn't see you, sir.” “Strange how short-sighted being invisible can make you,” said Dumbledore, and Harry was relieved to see that he was smiling. If you ever do run across it, you will now be prepared. It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.Q8 - What do you think Dumbledore saw in the mirror?Chapter 13 - Nicholas FlamelChess was the only thing Hermione ever lost at, something Harry and Ron thought was very good for her.“There's no need to tell me I'm not brave enough to be in Gryffindor, Malfoy's already done that,” Neville choked. Harry felt in the pocket of his robes and pulled out a Chocolate Frog, the very last one from the box Hermione had given him for Christmas. He gave it to Neville, who looked as though he might cry. “You're worth twelve of Malfoy,” Harry said. Q1 - What are your thoughts on Neville?Q2 - Is there a serious issue that the trio could not find the only known maker of the sorcerer's stone — something that makes the elixir of life which makes the drinker immortal — in anything they read until they got to the chocolate frog? Is this bad searching, or bad recorded history?Q3 - What position would you want to play in Quidditch?
THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta Scarlett Marlowe is a young scholar, continuing her dead father's search for the philosopher's stone, a legendary alchemical substance discovered by the alchemist Nicolas Flamel. The reputed stone is allegedly capable of turning base metals into gold or silver and granting eternal life. Scarlett discovers the "Rose Key" artifact in a cave slated for demolition, but after she sees a vision of her father as a hanged man, the demolition begins and she narrowly escapes. Scarlett travels to Paris. She enlists her former lover George and her cameraman Benji. Using codes from the key, they solve a riddle on Flamel's headstone and get coordinates pointing to the Catacombs of Paris. Scarlett tries to reach the location on an official tour, but it is off-limits. A stranger tells them a guide called Papillon will help them if they find him at a nearby club. Scarlett recruits Papillon, his girlfriend Souxie and his friend Zed. Papillon takes the group to an off-limits entrance. George initially refuses to enter, but when a policeman confronts them, the group escapes into the caves. They encounter singing female cultists, including a woman they saw at the club (Representing condemned souls and angels of the First Vestibule of Hell). The group finds a blocked tunnel, Scarlett removes a brick unsealing the tunnel, but Papillon explains people who go through that tunnel disappear. His friend La Taupe (i.e. "The Mole") is among the missing. As the group takes an alternate route through a narrow tunnel, it collapses behind them, and they inexplicably find themselves in front of the same blocked tunnel with no choice but to break through. Inside, the group encounters La Taupe, a condemned ghost trapped within the purgatorial catacombs. He tells them going further down is the only way out. They eventually find a tomb with a preserved Templar Knight, a mound of treasure, and the Flamel Stone. After they take the stone, attempting to take the treasure triggers a trap and collapses the room. La Taupe seems lost under the rubble. Using the Flamel Stone, Scarlett is able to supernaturally heal a wound on Souxie's arm. They find a drawing of a door on the ceiling along with a Gnostic Star of David, symbolizing "As above, so below", which reveals a hidden opening in the floor. Going through, they find a tunnel marked with the phrase "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here" in Greek, identical to the script on the entrance to Hell in Dante's Inferno. On the other side of the tunnel, the group finds an upside-down reflection of the room they just left, where somehow La Taupe is waiting. He kills Souxie and disappears. Deeper in, the cultist from the club pushes Benji to his death. Papillon is then sucked into a burning car by an apparition of a man who looks just like the stranger who told Scarlett to find Papillon. The car implodes and buries Papillon in the floor. Scarlett, George, and Zed move on and see apparitions of terrifying spirits and demons. Statues in the wall come to life, and one rips open George's throat. Scarlett tries to heal the wound with the Flamel Stone, but cannot. She realizes she had stolen a false stone, and must return it to its original place to find the real stone and heal George.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Albus Dumbledore and the discovery he made in his youth that made him famous. I am of course talking about his discovery of the 12 uses of Dragon's Blood- an alchemical feat worthy of a place in the history books. Today, when we think of Dumbledore's achievements, the accomplishment that stands out most was his 1945 defeat of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, as he effectively saved the wizarding world from a perilous fate. After 1945, there wasn't a wizarding household in the world that didn't know his name. However, what many don't realize is that Dumbledore is also quite famous from his OTHER achievements in the wizarding world. Dumbledore lived a long time, 115 years to be exact, and during his formative years he was able to achieve a LOT, beginning to impress other witches and wizards as early as the year 1893. “In a matter of months, Albus's own fame had begun to eclipse that of his father. By the end of his first year, he would never again be known as the son of a Muggle-hater, but as nothing more or less than the most brilliant student ever seen at the school.” And for the remainder of Dumbledore's studies, with his negative associations now a thing of the past, Dumbledore continued to excel- achieving every award and accolade imaginable. After the death of his sister, he decided to take a trip to France where he visited his old friend Nicolas Flamel. Flamel was a famed alchemist, and it was in France that Dumbledore studied the ancient art and science of alchemy under his tutelage. After an unknown period of time, Dumbledore returned back to Britain- and it just so happened that in this time period Dumbledore became infatuated with the study of dragon's blood- specifically it's uses- a relatively uncharted subject in wizarding culture. Dragon blood was the blood of any of the many species of dragon, and it had 12 uses - all of which Dumbledore ‘discovered' and subsequently published, earning him widespread recognition. Dumbledore was now world famous. But despite this discovery catapulting Dumbledore to stardom, there are still a lot of UNKNOWNS when it comes to Dumbledore's discovery- at least, from our perspective. While the uses of Dragon's Blood were published in all sorts of alchemical manuscripts, we- the muggle readers- have never been enlightened as to what these 12 uses are. Today, I want to dig in and see what I can find on this subject. First things first- what IS Dragon's blood? Dragon's blood, as you might have expected, was blood extracted from any species of dragon- a dark red glutinous substance. The blood of a dragon was particularly powerful- but also adaptable- which is why it was eventually discovered to have so much practical application in the wizarding world. It's worth noting, however, that Dragon's weren't the only magical creature with POWERFUL blood. One sip of unicorn blood could keep witches and wizards alive even when they were an inch from death, but it did come with a big price tag- a condemnation to a cursed existence- a half-life. Drinking the blood of a Re'em, a type of rare giant horse, granted the drinker immense strength for a short period of time. And the blood of a Qilin, a mythical creature that was part-dragon and part-horse, had the ability to show people visions. It's clear that the blood of certain magical creatures has extremely powerful capabilities, but oddly enough the first two uses of Dragon's blood that I want to discuss in this video seem fairly mundane by comparison.
Nicolas Flamel was a French scribe and manuscript-seller who lived in the 14th century. After his death, Flamel developed a reputation as an Alchemist, believed to have created and discovered the Philosopher's Stone and to have thereby achieved immortality. These legendary accounts first appeared in the 17th century. According to texts ascribed to Flamel almost 200 years after his death, he had learned alchemical secrets from a Jewish converso on the road to Santiago de Compostela. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/simon-bloom/message
Chapter 11 - QuidditchQ1 - How much would you pay to watch the Quidditch World Cup match in 1473 that had all seven-hundred ways to commit a foul committed?Harry thought Flint looked as if he had some troll blood in him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the fluttering banner high above, flashing Potter for President over the crowd. His heart skipped. He felt braver.Q2 - How do we feel about Lee Jordan shooting his shot with Angelina during his commentary for the match?Q3 - The Weasleys are poor, how does one of the twins have a gold wristwatch?Q4 - Should they have magical protection for the players during a quidditch match?Chapter 12 - The Mirror Of ErisedSo Malfoy, jealous and angry, had gone back to taunting Harry about having no proper family.Q1 - The wizarding world needs google? “It's an invisibility cloak,” said Ron, a look of awe on his face.Q3 - Who did you think the cloak was from on the first read?Q4 - Is a hundred fat, roast turkeys excessive for the number of kids likely staying at Hogwarts for Christmas?Q5 - Is it irresponsible to give an eleven-year-old an invisibility cloak and just say “use it well?Q6 - Did you catch the riddle of the inscription on the mirror: Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi? He tore his eyes away from his mother's face, whispered, “I'll come back,” and hurried from the room.Q7 - This is way too personal, and I'm not going to ask this, but what would you see in the mirror?“So — back again, Harry?” Harry felt as though his insides had turned to ice. He looked behind him. Sitting on one of the desks by the wall was none other than Albus Dumbledore. Harry must have walked straight past him, so desperate to get to the mirror he hadn't noticed him. Is this bad searching, or bad recorded history?Q3 - What position would you want to play in Quidditch?Chapter 14 - Norbert The Norwegian Ridgeback“But there aren't wild dragons in Britain?” said Harry. “Of course there are,” said Ron. “Common Welsh Green and Hebridean Blacks. The Ministry of Magic has a job hushing them up, I can tell you. Our lot have to keep putting spells on Muggles who've spotted them, to make them forget.”Q1 - Now that you'd know but do you think the Ministry of Magic has ever put a memory spell on you?Q2 - On your first read, did you think Snape was the one who was going after the stone?Q3 - How much brandy and chicken blood do you think Hagrid went through to feed Norbert?“Wonder what it's like to have a peaceful life?” Ron sighed.Harry suddenly turned to Ron. “Charlie,” he said. “You're losing it, too,” said Ron. “I'm Ron, remember?”

SIGN UP FOR THE POTTER DISCUSSION NEWSLETTER AND CLAIM YOUR GUIDE HERE!In this episode I reveal what Dumbledore's actual plan was. Enjoy!Summary: We never truly understand what Dumbledore's plan is. That is because he doesn't confide in anyone. And, his plan is forever changing. This is Dumbledore's true plan in the first Harry Potter book. Dumbledore started by bringing Harry to the Dursley's where he grew up. When Harry turned eleven, Dumbledore could have sent anyone to pick Harry up, but Hagrid was the one picked. That may have been because Dumbledore wanted Harry to become good friends with Hagrid from the start. That turned out well, as Hagrid helped Harry a lot through his days at Hogwarts. Then, after Harry got all his things from Diagon Alley, he spent a fortnight at the Dursley's house before going to King's Cross to catch the Hogwarts Express. But oh no! Harry has no idea where to go. That is when Mrs. Wealsy shows up, loudly saying how the train station was packed with muggles. That seems a little too perfect. And as we see the Weaslys being great assets to Harry, we can assume Dumbledore might have told Mrs. Weasly what to do. Then Harry goes to Hogwarts. There, all seems well until the students are informed of a mystery in the castle. When Harry and his friends are running from Filch one night, they stumble into that very secret. They find Fluffy the three headed dog. Only a day later, Hagrid let slip that the dog was his, and the secret behind it was only between Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel. It's odd that Hagrid tells Harry the exact information to get the answer. Did Dumbledore tell him to? On Christmas, Harry conveniently gets a present (from Dumbledore) that allows him to move around the castle at night. Harry goes to the library to find Flamel. After another run in with Filch, Harry runs to the mirror of Erised. Entranced, Harry goes back every night. The last night he does this, Dumbledore is waiting. But Harry isn't expelled. When Harry finds out who Flamel is, they hurry down the third floor corridor. Somehow, Harry makes it through the whole thing! It's as if Dumbledore designed it that way... SIGN UP FOR THE POTTER DISCUSSION NEWSLETTER AND CLAIM YOUR GUIDE HERE!In this episode I tell you what the true project was for Flamel and Dumbledore. Enjoy!Summary: The creation of the Sorcerer's Stone by Albus Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel was an enormous leap forward in magical technology. But all the pieces don't add up. Flamel was working on the stone for about 500 years before Dumbledore came along. Dumbledore only helped with the final tweaks a perfections. When the two announced their making to the world, it seemed as if both Flamel and Dumbledore had put in an equal amount of effort into the creation. What else did they do? I think Dumbledore was trying to bring his sister back to life. Here's why. Dumbledore had a stone that gave a person endless life. If his sister was dead, that might be something Dumbledore wanted to use the stone for. The only roadblock here, is the stone only extends a life and doesn't bring it back. What part of Ariana could still have been alive that day? Her obscuruse. Remember Newt Scamander? He had an obscuruse in a bubble. Newt says he got that obscuruse from a little girl around the time Ariana would have died. But we don't see Ariana at all. Where is she? Did it even work? I think it did, but not for the intended reason. An apple seed taken from a tree makes an apple tree, but not the same one. Can you think of another obscuruse creation in that same timeline? Credence. Dumbledore developed an obscuruse as a child. While Dumbledore's life went by, his obscuruse got stronger. When he finally started the process of bring Ariana back to life, some of his obscuruse affected the change. They created something new. And they didn't even know it.Gmail: ThePotterDiscussion@Gmail.comInstagram: @thepotterdiscussionWebsite: https://www.thepotterdiscussion.buzzsprout.com

Y algunos otros más. ..
