Chris Merola on Lemonade Blessing

Some films aim to entertain; others aim to provoke. Lemonade Blessing dares to do both—and does so with unapologetic flair. At first glance, the film is a bold, raunchy sex comedy. But peel back the irreverent humor, the teenage horniness, and the sacrilegious hijinks, and you'll find something much deeper pulsing beneath the surface: a raw, reflective exploration of generational trauma, toxic masculinity, and the quiet desperation of growing up with inherited wounds. In this interview, Following Films sits down with writer-director Chris Merola, a Gen Z filmmaker whose work channels both playful nostalgia and piercing cultural critique. With scenes shot in his own childhood home and props pulled from his real-life video game collection, Lemonade Blessing is as personal as it is provocative. Merola opens up about the journey of making the film, the adolescent awakening that inspired it, and his hope that the film's outrageous "skin" might draw in teen boys—particularly those vulnerable to toxic influencers—and leave them with something more lasting: its soul.Audiences will have the chance to experience Lemonade Blessing at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, with four scheduled screenings:Thursday, June 5 at 7:15 PM – SVA Theater (Beatrice), 333 West 23rd StreetFriday, June 6 at 9:00 PM – Village East Cinemas (VEC-04), 181-189 2nd AvenueSaturday, June 14 at 6:00 PM – Village East Cinemas (VEC-04), 181-189 2nd AvenueSunday, June 15 at 11:15 AM – Village East Cinemas (VEC-02), 181-189 2nd AvenueDon't miss this bold, timely, and soul-searching debut from a filmmaker with something vital to say—and a wild, unforgettable way of saying it.

Thank you for listening to The Following Films Podcast. Today, I'm joined by Directors Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell to discuss their film YOU'LL NEVER FIND ME In the Australian outback, a lonely, paranoid man, Patrick (played by Brendan Rock) gets a knock on his door during a torrential storm. He finds a woman, only known as "The Visitor" (played by Jordan Cowan, who also produces) in need of a phone to find her way home. He cautiously lets her in, which sets off a claustrophobic night of doubt, hidden motivations, and a tense, ever-shifting game of mental cat-and-mouse. All of which leads to, without spoiling anything, an explosive finale that turns the paranoia thriller format on its head! Directors Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell approached their feature debut like a challenge. Indianna, who also wrote the film, set out to see how much tension they could conjure with potentially limiting factors like a singular location and just two actors. With a small team of trusted collaborators from their previous short films, such as their remarkable cinematographer Maxx Corkindale, the duo sought to capture a brooding and anxious atmosphere a la 'Enemy' or 'It Comes At Night' while channeling the darkness and isolation that Australian filmmakers do best. The final product that subverts the dialogue-driven, chamber piece structure on its head and serves as yet another bold entry to the recent renaissance of horror down under! Welcome to the Following Films podcast! I'm Chris Maynard, your host. Today, I had the chance to sit down with Christoffer Guldbrandsen director of the documentary film  A STORM FORETOLD. A STORM FORETOLD is centered on Roger Stone. With a colossal cigar dangling from the corner of his mouth, a libation in hand, and an unmistakable disdain for his political adversaries, Roger Stone emerges as the quintessential ally to Donald Trump. Revered as a right-wing powerbroker, Stone's influential journey traces back to the era of President Nixon, a legacy inked onto his own back. If you haven't seen it, do a Google search for Roger Stone Nixon tattoo, its a sight to behold. In a film marked by unparalleled access, the film captures the tumultuous final months of the Trump administration, centering on the heart of power and climaxing with the unprecedented storming of Congress.   Our director and occasional voice of reason, finds himself amidst the chaos as Trump supporters converge on Washington, witnessing firsthand Roger Stone's strategic retreat from his hotel suite as the 'Stop the Steal' campaign spirals into a riot. A Storm Foretold – unfolds the narrative of a once-established political party metamorphosing into an anti-democratic movement, where impassioned rhetoric evolves into tangible violence. Before our conversation with Christoffer, I would like to thank our sponsor, Bookmans, an independent bookstore that believes in the magic of storytelling and the cinematic arts. Thank you for listening to this episode of the FOLLOWING FILMS podcast. A movie podcast that takes you on a weekly journey into the world of cinema and the minds of the talented individuals who shape it. I'm your host, Chris Maynard, and today we are joined by editors Timothy A. Good and Emily Mendez to discuss their Emmy nominated work on THE LAST OF US. After a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope. While the series has more than enough gore and action to satisfy the most craven of genre fans, the show, in its heart, is about survival, moving on in the face of great loss, and ultimately hope. About the importance of vulnerability in dangerous times, at least to me it is. To you, it could be something wildly different.  But before we dive into our conversation with Tim and Emily, I'd like to take a moment to thank our sponsor, Bookmans. Bookmans is your go-to independent bookstore, where you can find an extensive selection of books, movies, music, and more. It really does help the show. Personally, I got my fingers crossed for Tim and Emily on Emmy night, great people making great art. THE LAST OF US is currently available to stream on HBO Max. Or is it just Max now? That sounds weird, but it's right. I'll Tweet about it on X. Strange days people, strange days. Enjoy the show. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/followingfilms/support
