William Lees-Jones took over the family's brewing company, JW Lees, in 2004 and now owns pubs across the North-West of England and Wales. His forward thinking and proactive approach has earned him a reputation for invoking radical changes within his industry whilst sticking to traditional values and championing the culture that surrounds the local. He recalls the struggle of ensuring the safety of his employees over the course of the covid lockdowns and the various actions they took to protect the JW Lees pubs. You'll also hear how he has helped to support underprivileged communities and young people across Manchester through projects such as the Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham and Manchester's Community Foundation, Forever Manchester. ------ Your host, Lisa Morton, started PR company Roland Dransfield in 1996, one month after the fateful IRA bomb that tore apart the city centre. From that point, the business, and its team members, have been involved in helping to support the creation of Modern Manchester – across regeneration, business, charity, leisure and hospitality, sport and culture. To celebrate the 25 years that Roland Dransfield has spent creating these bonds, Lisa is gathering together some of her Greater Mancunian ‘family' and will be exploring how they have created their own purposeful relationships with the best place in the world. A brand new group set up to support young people affected by bereavement in Wythenshawe made the news when it was featured on BBC Radio Manchester.Gaynor Jackson from Benchill, who established Bereavement 4 Kids was interviewed live on the breakfast programme where she talked about the new weekly group that meets from 4pm to 5.30pm every Monday afternoon at Benchill Community Centre in Wythenshawe. The group was established by Gaynor for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Gaynor was encouraged and supported to set up the group by Forever Manchester’s Community Builder Vikki Snowden as part of her ongoing work in the area. As a result, Gaynor recognised a need and planned the development of the group and, along with Vikki’s support and assistance, received a £250 Cash 4 Graft award from Forever Manchester to purchase necessary equipment and refreshments. When Gaynor lost her husband, she felt like there was no support for her children. This inspired her to create a group where children and adults sharing similar experiences could come together to do an array of activities aimed at helping them to deal with their loss.Gaynor said “We met Vikki from Forever Manchester, we had a few chats and organised a couple of activities such as an Easter Hunt and a Bingo & Breakfast in the Community event. We got a good bond going and came up with the idea of the Bereavement Group for local families affected by the loss of a loved one.”Forever Manchester's Community Builder Vikki Snowden said “Bereavement 4 Kids is great example of what can be achieved with just with a little bit of encouragement and support”. Notes:Forever Manchester is the only charity that raises money to fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester. If you live or work in Greater Manchester, Forever Manchester will have funded a community group or local project within a mile of where your home or place of work.

Following the Manchester Arena terror attack on May 22nd 2017, more than 60 Manchester creatives, including Peter Saville and Malcolm Garret, came together to turn Tony Walsh's ‘This is The Place’ poem into a book. The poem, originally written for Forever Manchester, gave language to our city in a moment when it wasn’t sure what to feel and This is the Place quickly became an iconic piece of literature, spreading across the globe as a symbol of defiance, unity and love. The resulting creative collaboration has materialised as a brilliant & unique hardback coffee table book that not only marks a tragic moment in time but equally looks forward with hope for our city alongside benefitting three significant charitable funds. In this interview, James Torry from Doodledoo Motion who initiated and headed up the development of the book, talks about what has become a truly unique creative project. For more information on the book, including where you can purchase it, please visit: http//forevermanchester.com/this-is-the-place-choose-love-manchester-hardcover-book
