Security footage shows a dark-colored sedan with dark rims speeding near the scene, now identified as a vehicle of interest. Police have released images and are seeking public help to identify the car and its occupants. Anyone with information or dash cam footage is urged to contact the investigating detective at 770-904-7650. STORY 2: Parkview student brought unloaded gun to school A Parkview High student was arrested Thursday for bringing an unloaded gun to school, discovered after a classmate reported it. Administrators quickly located the student and found the firearm in their book bag. Principal David Smith assured parents that no threats or harm occurred but emphasized the seriousness of the incident, which violates school policy and the law. Officials urge parents to discuss the dangers of bringing weapons to school and encourage students to report concerns via text, the "GCPS Tips" app, or P3Campus.com/5105. Smith praised the community for prioritizing safety and vigilance. STORY 3: Legislation invites lawsuits against cities and schools that ignore immigration law The Georgia Senate Public Safety Committee advanced Senate Bill 21, which would allow lawsuits against school districts and governing bodies that violate state laws requiring cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. The bill targets "sanctuary city" policies and mandates compliance with federal immigration detainer requests. Critics, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, warn it could lead to lawsuits against teachers, while the Georgia School Boards Association raised concerns about accusations triggering legal action. Supporters argue the bill enforces accountability by waiving sovereign immunity for noncompliance, potentially imposing financial penalties on violators. Democrats opposed the bill, leading to economic boycotts, including MLB relocating its 2021 All-Star game. Raffensperger called the lawsuit "frivolous," citing polls showing 98-99% of voters reported no issues voting in recent elections. He also accused the Biden administration of political motives in pursuing the case. The grant underscores GGC's commitment to education and workforce development. STORY 5: Looking Back At 2024: Trump turns tables on Georgia Democrats In 2024, Georgia's political landscape was dominated by former President Donald Trump's victory, reclaiming the state's 16 electoral votes from Democrats. This marked a significant shift after President Joe Biden's 2020 win. Additionally, two major crimes influenced state legislative agendas: the murder of nursing student Laken Riley at the University of Georgia and a mass shooting at a Barrow County high school that resulted in four deaths. Jo Jorgensen secured the Libertarian presidential nomination with Spike Cohen as her running mate, and Howie Hawkins secured the Green presidential nomination with Angela Nicole Walker as his running mate. The central issues of the election included the public health and economic impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic; civil unrest in reaction to the police murder of George Floyd and others; the Supreme Court following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett; and the future of the Affordable Care Act. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a record number of ballots were cast early and by mail. Thirty-eight states had over half of all votes cast using these methods, and only three states had fewer than 25%.Many more registered Democrats voted by mail than registered Republicans. As a result of a large number of mail-in ballots, some swing states saw delays in vote counting and reporting; this led to major news outlets delaying their projection of Biden and Harris as the president-elect and vice president-elect until the morning of November 7. Major media networks project a state for a candidate once there is high statistical confidence that the outstanding vote would be unlikely to prevent the projected winner from ultimately winning that state.Biden received the majority in the Electoral College with 306 electoral votes, while Trump received 232. Trump was the first president to lose re-election since George H. W. Bush in 1992. Key to Biden's victory were his wins in the Democratic-leaning Rust Belt states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which Trump narrowly carried in 2016 and whose combined 46 electoral votes were enough to swing the election to either candidate. Biden also became the first Democrat to win a presidential election in Georgia since 1992 and in Arizona since 1996, as well as Nebraska's 2nd congressional district since 2008.Before, during, and after Election Day, Trump and numerous other Republicans engaged in an aggressive and unprecedented attempt to subvert the election and overturn the results, falsely alleging widespread voter fraud and trying to influence the vote-counting process in swing states in what has been described as an attempted self-coup d'état. Attorney General William Barr and officials in each of the 50 states found no evidence of fraud (widespread or otherwise) or irregularities in the election. Federal agencies overseeing election security said it was the most secure in American history. The Trump campaign and its allies, including Republican members of Congress, continued to attempt to overturn the results of the election by filing numerous lawsuits in several states (most of which were withdrawn or dismissed), spreading conspiracy theories alleging fraud, pressuring Republican state election officials (including, notably, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in a phone call that later became widely publicized) and legislators to change results, pressuring the Department of Justice to declare the election "corrupt" and intervene, objecting to the Electoral College certification in Congress, and refusing to cooperate with the presidential transition of Biden. With Trump vowing that he would never concede the election and after exhorting his followers to "fight like hell", a mob of Trump supporters attacked the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, during the joint session of Congress held to certify the Electoral College count. On January 7, Trump acknowledged the incoming administration without mentioning Biden's name. Biden and Harris were inaugurated on January 20, 2021; in a break from tradition, Trump did not attend his successor's inauguration. Trump was indicted on August 1, 2023, on four counts relating to conspiring to overturn the results. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:12 UTC on Thursday, 7 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see 2020 United States presidential election on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Russell.

From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Wednesday, October 30th and I'm Keith Ippolito. Transit Tax Continues to Stump Some Early Voters Cobb County voters face a significant decision on a proposed transit tax, the M-SPLOST, in the upcoming election. Many voters, like first-time voter Kamari Crenshaw, were surprised to find the referendum on the ballot, feeling unprepared to make an informed decision. Marietta residents expressed confusion and concern over the tax, with some, like Derrick Harvey, unaware of its existence despite staying informed on local news. New resident Kelsey George made efforts to understand the local elections by consulting the county's sample ballot and discussing with coworkers. Voter turnout has been strong, with over 232,000 ballots cast in Cobb County and a statewide turnout exceeding previous years. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger highlighted the ease of voting due to increased Early Voting days and infrastructure improvements. The advanced voting period ends Friday, with resources available for voters seeking more information. For more news about our community, visit mdjonline.com. Chairman McKoon shares insights on election integrity and recounts his recent clash with CNN's Jim Acosta, who incessantly interrupted him during a heated exchange on the topic.Additionally, the pair go on to discuss Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's connection with the Election Defense Fund, which has come under recent fire for allegedly raising funds to pressure election officials into certifying the election without any challenge. However, the state Republican Party Leader points to significant strides Georgia has made in election security, with a decrease in absentee ballot requests and more voters choosing to cast early ballots in person. Furthermore, Chairman McKoon underscores the importance of transparency in election processes and details how President Donald Trump's appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast might affect voter engagement. If you're in Georgia or simply wanting to keep up with all that goes on in the battleground state of Georgia, be sure to follow Chairman Josh McKoon (@JoshMcKoon) and the Georgia Repubican Party (@GARepublicans) on social media.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Today's show opens with a reminder about Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech after the death of Hamas leader Sinwar and how Israel will keep people safe who surrender and turn over the hostages. But, those who don't will be hunted down. Over the weekend, 100s of Hamas terrorists did just that, surrendered. Troubles deepen for former J6 Reality TV star Cassidy Hutchinson and Liz Cheney. Looks like a handwriting expert has Hutchinson perjuring herself and Liz likely knew it. Kamala is trying a new tactic. In an effort to appear “strong” she is screaming about not allowing Donald Trump to get back behind the Presidential Seal. It's reminiscent of Hillary Clinton. On top of that, over the weekend, someone at her rally yelled, “Jesus is Lord,” and she openly mocked that person and, by way of extension, all Christians. Even a political analyst on Fox News said it should be a campaign killing response. On the flip side, JD Vance handled a similar comment in a completely different way. When someone yelled, “Jesus is King,” JD not only acknowledged the comment, but also agreed with it. 60 Minutes is still trying to avoid giving up a transcript of the Kamala Harris interview, showing how they manipulated the edit to help her. They keep saying they did nothing wrong, but then refuse to release the transcript. Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) was asked about people mocking his hunting photo-op and he said he can shoot better than anyone and has the trophies to prove it. Okay, Elmer Fudd, whatever you say. Anne Hathaway reminds us the only topic Kamala Harris owns is the ides of killing a baby up to (and maybe even shortly after) the moment is born. The fear-mongering around being a parent really needs to be addressed in this nation. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was on Face the Nation on CBS and told them 75% of the votes cast in Georgia will be counted on election night, but the rest of the votes would not come in until Friday because they are going to be coming from mail-in ballots from out of the country. Is he serious?? Donald Trump kept his promise of working the fry machine at a McDonald's. The Left is trying to mock him for it, but it only shows us how badly they are losing this race. He's having a great time and the Harris campaign is having a meltdown. Finally, Elon Musk weighs-in on just how bad government bureaucracy really is. While it's funny to hear, it's also really sad and frustrating to see how out-of-control we have allowed the Federal government to become. Today, on The Two Mikes, we spoke with Kim Brooks, who is a trained engineer and, for the past three years, the leader of a group called the “Georgia Nerds” (Twitter Handle: @georgianerds_real) This group has relentlessly pursued what increasingly appears to be the fairly complete bipartisan corruption of the Georgia's electoral system. The Nerds have spent three years examining the files of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office for the years 2020, 2022, and 2024. Ms. Brooks spoke to us just after she participated in a press conference in which she and other of the Nerds called on Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to call a special session of the Georgia legislature and issue an order that only paper ballots be used in this November's national election. The call for Kemp to do so was buttressed by a long sampling of the corruption found in the files of the state's Secretary of State. During this press conference, Ms. Brooks and the Nerds focused on Republican corruption, but noted that the Democrats' electoral corruption is just as bad, and there also are corrupt operations that are cooperatively executed by the two parties.

This Day in Legal History: William Rehnquist BornOn October 1, 1924, William Hubbs Rehnquist, the 16th Chief Justice of the United States, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Appointed to the Supreme Court in 1972 by President Nixon, Rehnquist became a polarizing figure, known for his staunch conservatism and originalist approach to the Constitution. His judicial philosophy often focused on restricting federal authority and bolstering states' rights, positions that critics argued rolled back civil rights protections and hindered federal progress on social justice issues. In 1986, President Reagan elevated Rehnquist to Chief Justice, a decision that pushed the Court further right. At his swearing-in, Reagan hailed him as a defender of constitutional values, but opponents viewed his appointment as the solidification of an increasingly reactionary judiciary. The same ceremony saw Antonin Scalia, another conservative, sworn in, signaling a shift that would influence rulings on affirmative action, voting rights, and church-state separation.Rehnquist's tenure included controversial rulings, notably his role in Bush v. Gore (2000), which critics argue undermined democratic principles by halting the Florida recount and effectively deciding a presidential election. His leadership on the Court was also marked by decisions that curtailed congressional power under the Commerce Clause, weakening federal authority in areas like civil rights and environmental regulation. While his supporters celebrated him as a guardian of limited government, his legacy remains contentious, with lasting impacts on the Court's direction and the balance between federal and state power.A fun Rehnquist fact is that you'll see in any official pictures or portraits of him as Chief Justice, his sleeves have yellow arm bands. Rehnquist insisted on adding four gold stripes on each sleeve to distinguish himself from the associate justices. He was inspired by the costume of the Lord Chancellor in a production of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera Iolanthe. Rehnquist's addition of the stripes was an unusual departure from the traditional plain black robes worn by justices, and it became a symbol of his unique approach to the role.New York Mayor Eric Adams has brought on three high-profile litigators as he faces federal criminal charges. Burck, known for representing figures like Stephen Bannon and Don McGahn, joins Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan partners John Bash III and Avi Perry on Adams' defense team. Alex Spiro, a partner at Quinn Emanuel with experience defending high-profile clients like Elon Musk, is leading the defense. The charges involve allegations that Adams accepted lavish travel perks and had improper ties to the Turkish government. Adams has denied wrongdoing and vowed to continue as mayor while fighting the charges. His legal team has requested the case's dismissal.Meanwhile, a legal defense fund for Adams has paid over $877,000 to law firm WilmerHale, and several staffers have left his administration amid ongoing investigations. Additionally, Theresa Hassler was recently appointed general counsel for the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, a nonprofit under scrutiny for its fundraising practices.Ex-Bannon Lawyer With Fox News Ties Joins NYC Mayor Defense TeamToday, on October 1, 2024, a Georgia judge will hear a challenge from Democrats against new election rules introduced by the Republican-led Georgia Election Board. These rules, approved in August, allow county officials to investigate discrepancies in vote counts and scrutinize election-related documents before certifying results. Democrats argue that these changes, which came just before the November 5 election, are designed to erode trust in the process and could delay certification. The rules were backed by three board members who are allies of Donald Trump, who continues to challenge his 2020 loss in Georgia. Trump has praised these board members for their efforts to increase election security, though critics, including Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, say the changes could undermine voter confidence and strain election workers.A separate lawsuit was also filed to block a new requirement for a hand count of ballots. Democrats contend that these rules create confusion and provide too much leeway for local officials to investigate alleged fraud, potentially delaying results. The trial in Fulton County Superior Court is part of a broader national focus on battleground states like Georgia, where both Republicans and Democrats are intensely focused ahead of the upcoming presidential election.Challenge by US Democrats to Georgia election rules goes to trial | ReutersAs artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform industries, more U.S. law firms are appointing executives to lead AI initiatives. District officials demonstrated the devices to the media, addressing concerns about prioritizing stadiums over schools. Will new election board rules lead to election night chaos?

Politically Georgia

Georgia's election board on Friday approved new rules requiring poll workers to count the number of paper ballots by hand after voting is completed.  On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, hosts Bill Nigut and Tia Mitchell are joined by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Georgia state Senator Gloria Butler to discuss the rules changes being made by the MAGA-dominated state election board. Raffensperger believes the board may be acting outside its authority to pass rules that could create chaos at local polling sites on election night.   Then, after a long absence from Georgia, Donald Trump returns to the state to hold an event in Savannah on Tuesday. His absence has worried state Republicans because most agree that Trump must win Georgia to retake the White House. His running mate JD Vance campaigns in Flowery Branch in Hall County on Thursday.      Links to today's topics:  State election board passes rule that could delay results of Georgia's presidential vote How new election board rules could lead to disputes over results Trump is returning to Georgia for first time in almost two months       Have a question or comment for the show? STORY 5:   Fulton judge tosses three counts in Trump's election interference case A Fulton County Superior Court judge has dismissed three counts in District Attorney Fani Willis' election interference case against former President Donald Trump. The dismissed counts involved accusations of filing false documents in federal court, which Judge Scott McAfee ruled the state does not have jurisdiction to prosecute. The remaining charges, related to a scheme to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, remain intact. This ruling leaves five of the original 13 counts against Trump. The case has been on hold since June due to concerns about Willis' impartiality, which were addressed after the special prosecutor she hired resigned in April. This honor, given to less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, is based on exceptional PSAT scores. These students will be recognized at the Cherokee County School Board meeting on October 17. To advance, they must complete an application detailing their achievements and pass additional requirements. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will select 15,000 finalists to compete for 7,500 scholarships worth around $30 million. STORY 7:  West, De la Cruz tossed from Georgia presidential ballot Two Fulton County judges have disqualified independent Cornel West and socialist Claudia De la Cruz from Georgia's presidential ballot due to improperly filed nominating petitions. Despite the disqualification, their names will still appear on the November 5 ballot because of timing issues. This decision reduces the list of qualified candidates in Georgia to four: Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, Libertarian Chase Oliver, and Green Party's Jill Stein. The Democratic Party of Georgia had appealed the earlier decision by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, concerned that West and De la Cruz could affect votes for Harris. Personal anecdote last night I was involved in a scuffle where a guest in our condo building got belligerent and unruly. He'd had a long day of drinking and was wandering the building and making some residents anxious and nervous. Some neighbors and I tried corralling him to guide him back to whatever unit he was staying in, and the guy got physical. My 8:45pm call to 911 likely caught it all on audio recording before Atlanta PD end the call. No one from the department arrived until 12:15am. Atlanta doesn't need "Cop City" as much as Atlanta needs more COPS in the city. What my neighbors and I dealt with last night wasn't deadly - but what if it could have become deadly? I went to bed having given up on my city's police department to show up two hours after waiting and one hour before they arrived. Atlantans deserve better. Okay, enough about that; Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's roaming the state testing counties' voting machines and tabulation processes. Then, get this: former Fulton County Elections supervisor Cathy Woodard - frequent pundit on local TV's "The Georgia Gang" - recorded her appearance for that show Friday morning, then filed an ethics complaint against the "MAGA-3" not he Georgia Elections Board. Legislative Democrats followed with their own call for action over the weekend, as well. Woolard's action is particularly delicious in that Governor Brian Kemp is mandated to do something - and that something will anger Donald Trump. Competing economic messages have been unleashed by the two major Presidential candidates; one a rambling off-prompter tirade of incoherence by a buffoon in front of tables of grocery items, the other a pointed list of actions the American people need relief on: grocery prices, more and attainable housing and tax breaks for families raising kids. Seems an easy choice to make.

The Georgia Election Board - now with election denialists - wants to (again) look into Fulton County's 2020 "curiosities." Ya know what? I say go for it. As my (returning) guest today - Marilyn Marks (VP and executive director of the Coalition for Good Governance) believes, I don't think there'll be a change in Georgia's outcome (and we know it wouldn't alter the Presidential outcome either), but the margin may change (obviously). Hell, it could pad Biden's advantage. But yeah, I say "go for it." I "math" the math to spell that belief out, but I also had Marilyn return today to explain why it's Democrats who have it "all wrong" and Republicans who have "some if it right" but gets that lost among their haul of nonsense, too. More importantly, though, she (and I agree with her, fully now) believes Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is solely to blame for doubts about 2020 lingering and for not moving us away from Dominion touch screens and back to landmarked paper ballots.

Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for their roles in Georgia's 2020 election results, accusing them of undermining Republican chances for 2024. Trump's remarks came as he and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, attacked Harris' liberal stance, while the DNC defended her focus on working families and reproductive rights. We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: INGLES 5 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. I won't filter my exuberance in watching as Donald Trump remains consistently "Trumpy," just as he was Saturday afternoon in the same - albeit less full - venue Kamala Harris held a raucous rally just days ago. Trump spent more time attacking Governor Brian Kemp - and Kemp's wife, Marty - than he did his ballot opposition, and local Republicans are anything from perplexed to flat-out livid. Hear the juiciest tidbits from that, along with me bringing new Pro Public reporting that Georgia's "voter cancellation portal" is already inviting foul play - with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green each seeing their voter registration targeted for removal. Good job, Raffy! Nate Silver's giving a slight edge to Kamala Harris in his latest forecasting and - bear with me - this RFK Jr. story has me questioning if there's a glitch in the matrix we're all obviously living inside of.

On today's show, I finally decide to address the faux controversy around Kansas City Chief's kicker, Harrison Butker's, speech he delivered at a Catholic university's commencement. It's illustrative of how far the Left has pushed our culture and just how disturbing that divide really is. I'm always encouraged when I see people push back against the false, state approved narratives from the Legacy/mainstream media. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was on NBC's Meet the Press and did a great job pushing back on Kristen Welker and her agenda-driven questions. Then we dive into the disgusting and bigoted commencement speech delivered by President Biden to Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Filled with lies, misrepresentations, anger, division and his bleak view of the world, I cannot imagine those students left feeling uplifted. A CBS News poll in Arizona reveals 72% believe Donald Trump would put the interests of U.S. citizens over immigrants, while only 13% said the same of Biden. And a new Gallup poll shows dismal marks for Biden's economic management. Dr. Johnston from the Georgia State Elections Board recently addressed a large gathering in the state and apologized to the voters for not taking election fraud claims seriously. It took over three years to hear the case! Speaking of voter fraud in the state of Georgia, the Gateway Pundit is reporting that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, along with his right-hand man Gabriel Sterling, are set to use Power to the Polls to get their poll workers. The issue with that is they are a Left wing funding organization that is funded, in part, by George Soros. Michael Cohen is back on the stand in the NY trial of Donald Trump and insiders are tweeting more revelations. Seems Cohen is now an admitted thief and an embezzler. We are also seeing Judge Merchan doing all he can to block the defense and aid the prosecution. What's even more astounding, the lead prosecutor, who was third in line form AG Merrick Garland, was the person who facilitated Michael Cohen's elections interference plea before going to work in Bragg's office. It's almost like they were working on the setup before anyone knew. Finally, we close similarly to how we opened, with another commencement speech from Harrison Butker, this time to the graduates at Georgia Institute of Technology. I'm still baffled how he is considered the threat to our country as compared to the rot and debauchery endorsed by the Left. Today we open with a bit of a look-back to when Fani Willis first decided to bring forth the Special Grand Jury to look into Donald Trump and the others. It was right after she heard that Donald Trump had called Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and supposedly asked him to find or manufacture votes to help him win the state of Georgia. We covered this a while back, that the Special Grand Jury was convened and had as it's first piece of evidence, that phone call. But, that call was completely and intentionally misconstrued to the Washington Post. It wasn't until a few months later that the audio recording of that call was discovered in the recycle bin of a laptop that we learned Trump never said anything wrong nor did he ask anyone to betray their oaths of office. By then the damage was already done in the court of public opinion. Well, as bad as things are for DA Fani Willis right now, it may have gotten even worse. According to the book that just dropped called, “Fine Me the Votes,” the authors admit the recording of that call was done illegally from the state of Florida by Jordan Fuchs, the Chief of Staff for Raffensperger. With that knowledge in place and writing that Fani Willis gave Fuchs immunity for that criminal act, shows Willis knew that call was illegal, and still allowed it in the Special Grand Jury. The fruit of the poisonous tree is a legal concept that has been in place since 1920. It states that if they initial tree of evidence is illegal, than all the fruit on the tree is also illegal. And Willis knew it. We also get some additional comment from WSB Legal Analyst Phil Holloway about the purpose of the GA Senate Committee and the thought that maybe the Attorney General for the state of Georgia might already be pursuing a criminal investigation. And, to make it even worse for Willis and Wade, the judge over this case has just been challenged in the upcoming election. In a country that vote 73% in favor of Biden over Trump, there is no way this judge is going to be re-elected. Instead of an intimidation move, I believe they have given Judge Scott McAfee the nudge he may have needed to disqualify Willis and Wade and likely refer them to the Ethics Commission for disbarment. The UN has finally concluded, after five months, that Hamas did commit war crimes on Israel. They also conclude that there are ongoing rapes and war crimes being committed on the hostages still. It's nice of the UN to finally catch up to what the rest of us have known for five months now. Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) just signed a bill to keep China and five other nations from being able to purchase farmland in her state. And, Noem said that countries to our south have, in fact, been sending their prisoners and mentally ill to our border, telling them the US wants them. Finally, tonight in the State of the Union.
