In this episode, I discusses the pros and cons of using multiple points of view (POVs) in writing. Point of view (POV) is the narrative perspective that guides the reader through the story. Multiple POVs can add depth and complexity to a story, but they also come with potential pitfalls. Pitfalls of multiple POVs include character chaos, plot complexity, and reader overwhelm. Start with one additional POV before diving into multiple POVs. Exercises like character journals, dialogue-only scenes, and POV shifts can help in distinguishing character voices and maintaining distinct perspectives. 00:00 Introduction and Background 03:27 The Allure of Multiple POVs 05:05 Pitfalls of POV Polygamy 06:30 Maintaining Character Voice in Third Person 11:33 Exercises to Hone Your Skills 12:53 It's Your Turn 15:48 Deciding Whether to Use Multiple POVs

Has your organization returned to five days in the office? If so, how was the reasoning behind it communicated to you? Or maybe you made the decision for your team. I have been hearing more and more of organizations going back to the five days in the office work week. There is nothing wrong with that, but it seems that also the majority of people I've talked to don't fully understand what the rationale behind this decision is. And when we don't understand the reasoning - we tend to create our own in the form of gossip. In this episode I explore the idea of five days in the office versus a hybrid office-remote approach, and the reasons I could see to justify each one. Unfortunately I believe many of these decisions are being made more out of fear and scarcity than trust and motivation for staff. What do you think? You can let me know here and I will share it on a future episode.
In this powerful discussion, Amanda and Ashley open up about their experiences with religious trauma, specifically within the context of the LDS Church (Mormonism). They share their personal journeys of questioning, leaving, and healing from the effects of growing up in a highly conservative religious environment. The conversation covers a wide range of topics, including the damaging impact of shame around sexuality, the lack of proper mental health support within the church, and the importance of seeking outside perspectives for healing. The biggest thing here is that we want you to know you are not alone. And whether you choose to stay, leave, or are beginning to question, this conversation is for you. These same principles apply to ALL organized religion, but the only church we've had experience with in our own personal lives is the LDS church which is why this conversation is heavily based around it. Little ears are not recommended for this one. Topics Covered: Amanda and Ashley discuss their backgrounds and experiences within the LDS Church. Both share how they began to question their beliefs and navigate the complexities of leaving the church. Religious Trauma and Shame Around Sexuality They discuss the shame and guilt associated with sexuality that stemmed from the teachings They share personal stories of how this shame affected their relationships and views on pleasure. The Lack of Mental Health Support within the Church Amanda and Ashley talk about the inadequate support provided by church leaders, especially on taboo topics like sex and trauma. They highlight the need for trained professionals who can offer unbiased guidance. The Impact of Religious Trauma Religious trauma extends beyond leaving the church and how it affects every aspect of life. They address the difficulty of finding support when leaving a tightly-knit religious community. Empowerment and Healing Amanda and Ashley discuss their journeys towards empowerment and healing after leaving the church. They emphasize the importance of seeking support and finding professionals who resonate with your beliefs. Deciding Whether to Stay or Leave Advice for individuals questioning their beliefs or considering leaving the LDS Church. They encourage listeners to take their time in making decisions and to seek support during this process. You're Not Alone Amanda and Ashley reassure listeners that many others have experienced similar struggles and feelings of religious trauma. This is a safe space to discuss these issues openly. An author's decision about whether to pursue traditional or indie publishing, or a hybrid model that incorporates both, is a deeply personal one. It should be an educated decision that is made on the basis of (among other things) what business model the author is most comfortable with. In Episode 28 of The Write Approach we aim to help inform that decision. We discuss why we've each chosen traditional or indie publishing at various times, any why one of us is opening up our options. Barbara Hinske's website: https://barbarahinske.com/J. W. EPISODE 99 - Clark, Hyung and John talk about their initial thoughts on the newly released 2022 Topps Chrome Sapphire Baseball Set and the fact it doesn't come with an autograph hit this year. Then the guys discuss some recent sales of big time sports cards, how much it's dropped since the peak of the hobby hype, but also how much it's increased if you had bought the card pre-hobby boom, and deciding what they would do with the card if they still owned one. For example, the Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders rookie autograph card (BGS 8.5) sold for $6,500 in January 2018, sold for $84,000 during the hobby peak in January 2022, but came back down in December 2022 for $25,100 (a nice 4X if you bought pre-hobby hype, but a major loss if you bought at the 2022 peak). -------------------------------- CONNECT WITH US! This week Delanie, Kelsey, (and Taylor!!!) discuss their decision, and indecision, around having children. They share how they used to feel about this topic 5 years ago when they first started the podcast vs. how they feel now, what experiences and exercises have helped them become more decisive about kids, the variety of FOMO they have, and sooo much more. This is not an episode about the pros and cons of having kids or the selfishness vs. selflessness of either decision. It's a very honest conversation among women and friends who want the best for each other, and who want to give other people the permission to feel empowered in their own choices. *** If you want children but are struggling to become a parent in one way or another, this episode might not be for you. In this weeks episode we discuss why for sellers there are so many challenges when it comes to accepting an offer. Accepting the wrong one can put you in a much worse position. When looking at offers, checking over every contingency is important. Understanding what each term means is the best way to ensure you only choose the right one. Keep in mind while it is important to understand every term it is also important to understand the demand for the home. Turning down a good offer at the start could lead to worse offers in the future.
Today on the podcast, I will be unpacking how to navigate situations that make us doubt ourselves and lack trust in relationships. I will break down my 3 KEY STEPS for checking our triggers and developing trust in ourselves and our relationships. 1. Checking Trigger 2. Deciding Whether or Not to Pursue 3. It Starts With Me We can all be triggered at times. Life happens! Things can kick off and we suddenly find ourselves in highly activated states. The trouble is when we find ourselves LIVING in activated states. Then, once we are regulated and have entered a receptive state, what happens next? Episode topics: - What happens when our activated state becomes our "always state" - Discussing why people who have been hurt may hurt others - Exploring other ways in which we can stay stuck in our trauma - 3 key steps: 1. Checking Trigger 2. Deciding Whether or Not to Pursue 3. It Starts With Me - Explaining how we can take ourselves out of REACTIVITY and place ourselves into RECEPTIVITY - Understanding that it's not an attack on us - it's not about us - What is about us - Some final thoughts Happy listening! With love, G

Kelsey and Armando had the absolute pleasure of having Jackie Graybill share her trauma to triumph. She talks about how she found herself in an abusive relationship, and through education, she began to see the signs of just how abusive it was. Jackie left that relationship and found herself having to rebuild her life independently. Jackie talks about how she learned to set boundaries and stick with them. Jackie began to work on herself and found her calling through the process. With a unique background in music, communication, and the arts, Seattle, Nashville, and London-based transformational keynote speaker/singer/songwriter/podcaster and soon-to-be author Jackie Graybill inspires and transforms her audiences. Jackie has taught piano for the past 22 years, has lit up the stage in eight plays and musicals, and placed in the Top 10 as Miss Puget Sound 2006 at Miss America's Miss Washington Pageant. She has released two albums and multiple singles to Spotify success (as Jackie Gray). Jackie's colorful life came crashing down into darkness when she found herself in an abusive marriage. Now free and an overcomer who holds a Masters in Understanding Domestic and Sexual Violence, Jackie combines her original music with a message of hope by helping others recognize, escape and heal from abusive relationships.Follow Jackie:Facebook: Jackie GraybillFacebook Group: Trauma to Triumph SisterhoodInstagram: @traumatotriumphsisterhood“The Verbally Abusive Man, Can He Change?: A Woman's Guide to Deciding Whether to Stay or Go”-Patricia EvansDon't forget to hit that Subscribe button and leave a review. Today's episode begins with perhaps the most important news in show history: Emily Su Bin Ko has joined The Video Essay Podcast as associate producer! The show starts with a conversation between Emily and Will and an introduction to Emily and her work. The episode also features a conversation with Jordan Schonig, a lecturer at SUNY Binghamton. Schonig's work is particularly interesting in the ways it bridges divides between academic and popular videographic criticism. In 2020, Schonig founded the YouTube channel, "Film & Media Studies with Jordan Schonig," which features lecture-style videos that sometime dip into the essayistic to explore concepts in Film and Media Studies. Schonig has also published academic video essays and is the author of the new book from Oxford University Press, The Shape of Motion: Cinema and the Aesthetics of Movement, which features audiovisual criticism in addition to the written text. We discuss his video, "The 'Wind in the Trees' from Early Cinema to Pixar," and Grace Lee's "What Isn't a Video Essay?" 0:00 - Introducing Emily Su Bin Ko 18:50 - Jordan Schonig's Origin Story 21:44 - A Brief Encounter 27:23 - Video Camp & Working With Pretty Images 35:55 - Creating Videographic Criticism as an Early Career Researcher 41:06 - Starting a YouTube Channel 53:56 – "Lev Manovich's 'What is Digital Cinema' and 'Compositing'" 1:02:47 – Deciding Whether to Upload a Work to Vimeo 1:06:55 – "The 'Wind in the Trees' from Early Cinema to Pixar" 1:21:20 - Zooming in On the Marginal 1:25:40 - "What Isn't a Video Essay?"
