In this episode of If Not For God with Mike Zwick, Mike continues his conversation with Daniel Merrill of Cross X Change, exploring the origins and teachings of Islam from a Christian apologetics perspective. The discussion examines topics including the meaning of Islam, Muhammad's life, the Quran, jihad, taqiyya, the historical concepts of Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb, and how these ideas compare with biblical Christianity. Mike and Daniel also discuss persecution of Christians in predominantly Muslim countries, the martyrdom of the 21 Coptic Christians in Libya, and stories of Muslims coming to faith in Jesus Christ through dreams, visions, and the witness of faithful believers. Throughout the conversation, they contrast the Christian call to proclaim the gospel through love and persuasion with their understanding of Islamic doctrine, while encouraging Christians to be prepared to share the hope found in Jesus Christ.
Synopsis: Paul's farewell to the Ephesian elders reveals the heart of faithful Christian ministry and devotion to God's call to the minster of the Gospel. In a culture that increasingly pressures believers to remain silent, the scriptures call the Church to reject fear, proclaim the whole counsel of God, and fulfil Christ's mission with the boldness of the Holy Spirit. The June 2026 HARB meeting transcript details the review of a revised application for the historic property at 203 North Sycamore Street. Developer Adam Baratta and his design team presented plans to transform a former restaurant into a new dining establishment while preserving its historic significance. Key upgrades include a small 550-square-foot addition, a new pitched roof to replace a contemporary trellis, and extensive ADA accessibility improvements. During the discussion, board members provided feedback regarding the scale of the upper deck columns and the color of the window trim to ensure the new work complements the existing structure. The board ultimately granted a conditional recommendation for approval, requiring the team to refine specific architectural details before proceeding. The meeting concluded with a positive outlook on the project's potential to serve as a community legacy and a catalyst for local economic activity.

West Side Market updates Cleveland's historic, 114-year-old West Side Market has been undergoing major change in recent years. First, it went through structural change, moving from longtime city management to nonprofit management back in 2024, something that residents and vendors had been calling for for years to improve conditions at the market. Now it's going through a major revitalization, as once the nonprofit team called the Cleveland Public Market Corporation began, it launched a years-long, $70 million transformation project funded in part by the city of Cleveland and City Council, as well as philanthropy and other government sources. But there's still some millions left to raise to complete the vision, and many months left to go until residents see completion of the project. In the meantime, there will be a lot of construction to wade through as you get your groceries and support local vendors. We'll discuss these updates on Tuesday's "Sound of Ideas" and learn what you can expect when you visit the market. Guests: - Rosemary Mudry, Executive Director, Cleveland Public Market Corporation - Don Whitaker, Owner, DW Whitaker Meats & Former President, United West Side Market Tenants Association - Jessy Harb, Co-owner of Harb's Produce What to know about hantavirus More than a dozen American cruise passengers are currently under a 42-day quarantine in Nebraska in a specialized medical facility after spending weeks aboard a ship hit with a deadly hantavirus outbreak that infected at least 11 people, including three who died. Hantavirus is a pathogen that some rodents carry that can sometimes infect humans. The passengers under quarantine are asymptomatic. This incident is harkening memories of another virus that caused a global pandemic six years ago. But health experts say hantavirus is not the same as COVID-19. We'll learn why by talking to a local epidemiologist. Guest: - Tara Smith, Ph.D., Professor of Epidemiology, Kent State University

Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S54) The plague of Amwaas, 18 A.H: Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was now ~80. His son Yazeed رضي الله عنهم was martyred here. Umar رضي الله عنه appointed Muawiya رضي الله عنه as the governor of Syria. Umar رضي الله عنه had great love and respect for Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. Umar رضي الله عنه once summoned Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه and gave him a cushion to sit on. Umar رضي الله عنه said: “The Messenger ﷺ told us when a noble person comes to you, honour him”. When Umar رضي الله عنه was martyred, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was ~86 years old, making him 23 years older than Umar رضي الله عنهم.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S55) - Final session Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was now in his 90s, he fell ill and passed away from this illness. At ~94 years old, in ~32 A.H, during Uthmaan's رضي الله عنه caliphate, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه passed away. (There is a difference regarding the exact year, the range is from 30-34 A.H. The strongest view is 32 A.H). Thus passed away the cousin and father in law of the Messenger ﷺ, the father of Umm Habeebah, Yazeed and Muawiya رضي الله عنهم, the one promised Paradise twice upon the loss of his sight, the shaykh and sayed of the Quraysh, the one who saw many miracles, the brave preacher on the plain of Yarmook, the blessed companion of the Messenger ﷺ: Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه. Uthmaan رضي الله عنه performed his رضي الله عنه Janazah and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was buried in the blessed graveyard of al-Baqee.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (53) A fabricated report in the books of history accuses Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه and some other Makkans of cowardice and treachery. The truth is that Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه fought bravely and he encouraged his son Yazeed رضي الله عنهم to be steadfast. The Muslims fought defensively for the first 4 days. After this, there was a turning point and on the 6th day the Muslims were victorious. ~4,000 Muslims were martyred. ~70,000 Romans were killed. Thus, for every Muslim martyr, ~17-18 Romans were killed. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه thus had lost both his blessed eyes. One during the lifetime of the Messenger ﷺ and one during the battle of Yarmook. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى has Said: “If I take away the eyesight of a slave of Mine and he shows patience and seeks My reward, I will reward him with nothing less than Paradise”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه thus now resided in Madinah. He رضي الله عنه was in his mid 70s.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S47) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه is given the glad tidings of Paradise: The Muslims launched a siege against the disbelievers. It was here where Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was struck in the eye by an arrow. The Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه: “I can supplicate so that you may be healed. Or, Paradise can be yours”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه replied: “Let it be Paradise”. The Spoils were distributed. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was given 100 camels and 40 Ookiya of silver. He رضي الله عنه asked what about his sons Yazeed and Muawiya رضي الله عنهم. They رضي الله عنهم recieved similar.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S48) The destruction of the idol Al-Laat: Al-Laat was the idol of the Thaqeef. Al-Laat was a righteous man who used to mix saweeq for the pilgrims. When he passed away, the people would remain by his grave and ended up eventually worshipping him. A delegation of the Thaqeef tribe came to Madinah to accept Islam. The Messenger ﷺ sent Mugheera Ibn Shu'ba, Khalid Ibn al-Waleed and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنهم to destroy the idol. A Masjid was built over the spot where the idol was destroyed. The Masjid is named Masjid Abdullah Ibn Abaas رضي الله عنهم.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S50) Some of the chiefs of the Quraysh رضي الله عنهم came to see Umar رضي الله عنه. Umar رضي الله عنه spoke to Suhayb, Bilal and Ammar Ibn Yasir رضي الله عنهم first (they were the elite companions and Badris رضي الله عنهم). One of the chiefs رضي الله عنه said: “He [رضي الله عنه] has chose these slaves over us?”. Suhayl Ibn Amr رضي الله عنه then said: “They are Badris, we can never catch them up. The only thing we can do now is Jihad”. Suhayl رضي الله عنه then left to Shaam for Jihad and never returned. He رضي الله عنه was martyred by the plague of Amwaas. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه took these words to his blessed heart. He رضي الله عنه then made preparations for Jihad as well.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S51) Abu Sufyaan's رضي الله عنه participation in the Battle of Yarmook, 14 A.H: It was during Umar's رضي الله عنه reign that this battle took place. The main commander was Khalid Ibn al-Waleed رضي الله عنه. The Muslims were split into 4 battalions: The right was led by Amr Ibn al-Aas رضي الله عنه, the right middle by Shurahbeel Ibn Hasana رضي الله عنه, the left middle by Abu Ubaydah رضي الله عنه and the left by Yazeed Ibn Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنهم. Abu Sufyaan fought behind his son رضي الله عنهم. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was in his mid 70's here. There was ~1,000 companions رضي الله عنهم present at this battle, 100 were Badris رضي الله عنهم. The Battle lasted 6 days.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S52) On the 4th day, Abu Sufyaan's رضي الله عنه name appears again: This day was known was the day of lost eyes, decapitated heads and severed hands. The Romans shot a large barrage of arrows at the Muslims. The arrows blocked out the sun. ~700 Muslims lost an eye. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was also struck, losing his remaining eye. Ikrimah, his son Amr and his uncle Haarith رضي الله عنهم were martyred at this battle. Many noble and courageous women also stepped forward to fight and defend, including Khawla and Umm Hakeem رضي الله عنهم.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S49) During the Era of the Khilaafur Raashideen رضي الله عنهم: The Messenger ﷺ passed away ~11 A.H. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was ~73 years old. He رضي الله عنه resided in Madinah, even though he used to be the chief of the Quraysh. Such was his رضي الله عنه love for the Messenger ﷺ. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه thought that the successor of the Messenger ﷺ should be from a prominent Quraysh tribe. He رضي الله عنه speaks to Ali and Abaas رضي الله عنهم. All the Companions رضي الله عنهم knew that the most worthy to succeed amongst them was Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه. They رضي الله عنهم pledged to him رضي الله عنه. Abu Sufyaan and his sons Yazeed and Muawiya رضي الله عنهم were loyal to Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه. They fought at the battle of Yarmook.

Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S46) The Banu Hawazeen descended into Hunayn to attack the Muslims. They gathered more men, their force was ~20,000. They brought their women and children as well. The Muslims numbered ~12,000. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was ~70 years old here. His sons Yazeed and Muawiya رضي الله عنهم were also present. The disbelievers set a trap in the valley. The Messenger ﷺ was at the front with his mule. Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan Ibn al-Haarith رضي الله عنه were also with him ﷺ.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S45) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه jokes with the Messenger ﷺ. The Messenger ﷺ smiles. Onto Abu Sufyaan's رضي الله عنه first campaign with the Messenger ﷺ: The battle of Hunayn. When Makkah was conquered, the Messenger ﷺ stayed there for 10 days. The Banu Hawazeen were a tribe ~30 miles away from Makkah, they defied the authority of the Messenger ﷺ. The Messenger ﷺ tells Ali, Zubayr and Miqdaad رضي الله عنهم to intercept a letter.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S44) Abu Sufyaan's wife, Hind رضي الله عنهم, also embraced Islam on this special day. Hind رضي الله عنها pledged to the Messenger ﷺ using a cloth. The Messenger ﷺ didn't touch the hands of women. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was from Banu Umayya. This tribe had Companions such as Uthmaan Ibn Affaan and Sa'eed Ibn al-Aas رضي الله عنهم who were extremely generous. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه requested 3 things from the Messenger ﷺ
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S40) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw the various tribes رضي الله عنهم entering Makkah and said: “What do they have to do with us?”. (I.e a tribal thing). Abaas رضي الله عنه elucidated the matter to Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. The Messenger ﷺ walked past with the Muhajireen and the Ansar رضي الله عنهم. All that was visible of them was their eyes. Abaas رضي الله عنه recalled Abu Sufyaan's رضي الله عنه words all those years prior, about how he'd only accept Islam if he saw horses high on mount Qada. At this moment, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw this very thing! He رضي الله عنه said: “All praise be to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى Who Has guided me to Islam”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه thus embraced Islam in the blessed month of Ramadan.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S43) All the idols were destroyed and there was now constant worship around the Ka'ba. At night, the Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) continuously performed Tawaf and uttered the Takbeer and Tahleel. Upon seeing this blessed scene, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to his wife, Hind رضي الله عنها: “Do you not see that this is all from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى?”. Hind رضي الله عنها replied: “Yes indeed, this is certainly from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S41) Whilst entering the city on the evening of the Conquest of Makkah, Sa'ad Ibn Ubadah رضي الله عنه said: “Today is a day of slaughter!”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه related these words to the Messenger ﷺ. He ﷺ said: “No, today is a day of mercy”. When Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw all these faces he didn't recognise (رضي الله عنهم), he رضي الله عنه said to the Messenger ﷺ: “O Messenger (ﷺ) of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى), you have preferred these people over your own?”. The Messenger ﷺ replied: “This is the result of your people's actions. These people [رضي الله عنهم] believed in me when you all called me a liar. They supported me when you expelled me”. Thus the peaceful conquest of Makkah took place. The Quraysh went into the safe zones. The Messenger ﷺ entered Makkah with humility, showing no pride nor boasting.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (42) Khalid's رضي الله عنه division رضي الله عنهم was attacked by a group of the Quraysh who didn't want to go down without a fight. Khalid رضي الله عنه acted in defence. With the conquest of Makkah, the Ka'ba was now cleansed of the idols surrounding her. The Messenger ﷺ pointed at the idols with his blessed staff and they fell. The Messenger ﷺ then went inside the Ka'ba with some companions رضي الله عنهم and prayed. The Messenger ﷺ forgives the Quraysh. He ﷺ recited Surah Yusuf (a.s): Verse 92. He ﷺ said the same words as his brother Yusuf (a.s), when he (a.s) forgave his brothers. The Messenger ﷺ told Bilal رضي الله عنه to climb the Ka'ba and give the Azaan

Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S36) Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه defends Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه at this point still wasn't a Muslim but Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه said: “He [رضي الله عنه] is a shaykh and a sayed”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه returned to Makkah. The Quraysh said to him that you've been played. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to them: “What would you have done?”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was a noble leader. Although the mess wasn't his he still tried to fix it.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S37) The Conquest of Makkah: On the 10th of Ramadan ~7 A.H the conquest of Makkah took place. The Messenger ﷺ supplicated and the Quraysh didn't know he ﷺ was coming to Makkah even when he ﷺ was close. ~10,000 Companions رضي الله عنهم left with the Messenger ﷺ. En route Makkah, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه had a dream and the Messenger ﷺ told him رضي الله عنه the meaning. The Muslims set up camp ~16 KM away from Makkah. Abaas رضي الله عنه went to the Muslim camp.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S38) Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه encounter each other. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه went with Abaas رضي الله عنه on the Messenger's ﷺ mule. As they رضي الله عنهم passed by the people (رضي الله عنهم), no one showed concern as it was the Messenger's ﷺ uncle رضي الله عنه on the mule. However, when they passed by Umar رضي الله عنه he enquired about who it was. He رضي الله عنه realised it was Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه, and was happy that he was brought to him so he could deal with him رضي الله عنه. Umar رضي الله عنه raced to the Messenger's ﷺ tent to seek permission to deal with Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه were on the Messenger's ﷺ mule and beat Umar رضي الله عنه to the tent. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه sees the Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) get ready for Fajr prayer. He رضي الله عنه saw them waiting for the Messenger ﷺ and was shocked. He رضي الله عنه saw all sorts of kings and leaders, but the best leader he ever saw was the Messenger ﷺ.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S39) The Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه: “Shame on you O Abu Sufyaan. Has the time not come for you to testify there is none worthy of worship but Allah? (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى)”. The Messenger ﷺ said: “Has the time not come for you testify that I am indeed the Messenger of Allah? (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى)”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was honoured as per Abaas's رضي الله عنه request. The Messenger ﷺ said: “Whoever enters Abu Sufyaan's house is safe”. The Messenger ﷺ tells Abaas رضي الله عنه to take Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه to the mountains. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه would thus be able to see the horses and Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) high up on the mountains.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S32) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to Heraclius that he has one thing on the Messenger ﷺ: He ﷺ claims to have gone from Makkah to Jerusalem, then return in one night. The Patriarch of Jerusalem said: “I know that very night!”. The Patriarch would always close the gates, however this one night he could not close the gate. In the morning, he said that last night a Prophet (ﷺ) came here and prayed. Heraclius said to Dihya al-Kalbee رضي الله عنه that he knows that the Messenger ﷺ is indeed a Divine Messenger, however he said he won't proclaim this as he feared he would be killed. He didn't pay attention to what the Messenger ﷺ said in his letter: “Embrace Islam and you will live in peace”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S33) Heraclius stored the Messenger's ﷺ letter in a golden case. Years later, the descendant of Heraclius, King Francis, had the same letter of the Messenger ﷺ wrapped in silk and stored in a golden chest. He said as long as they have this letter, their empire would remain. Abu Sufyaan and Safwaan ibn Umayya رضي الله عنهم saw a wolf hunting a deer. When the wolf got to the Haram at Makkah, he stopped attacking the deer. The wolf spoke! He said to Abu Sufyaan and Safwaan رضي الله عنهم (who at the time weren't Muslims): “The Messenger ﷺ calls people to Paradise, whilst you are calling to them to the fire”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S34) The Treaty of Hudaybeeyah was broken by the Quraysh and their allies. The Banu Khuza'a joined the Messenger's ﷺ side and the Banu Bakr joined the Quraysh. The Banu Bakr attacked the Banu Khuza'a. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was angry and had nothing to do with this. The Messenger ﷺ sent Dhamura رضي الله عنه to give the Quraysh a message: Break away from the Banu Bakr, play the blood money for the men of Banu Khuza'a you killed. If not, we will go to war.

You're doing everything right — attending duroos, watching Islamic videos, filling pages with notes. But deep down… you're not changing. The more you learn, the more disconnected you feel. You thought seeking knowledge would soften your heart. But it's only making your head heavier. You're probably moving fast, but not forward. Why? Because somewhere along the way, we skipped what the Salaf never did. Study the explanation of Kitab al-ʿIlm by Imam Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr ibn Harb (d. 234 AH) — the teacher of five out of the six major hadith collectors. This book gathers over 160 narrations from the Prophet ﷺ, the Companions رضي الله عنهم, and the early scholars — not on fiqh or fatwa, but on how to seek knowledge the right way. It exposes the cracks in our foundations: - Learning without action - Studying without adab - Gaining facts but losing sincerity - Consuming lectures without any transformation If you've been chasing course after course, quoting scholars but ignoring your own tarbiyah — this is your reset. Watch now — and revive your journey of knowledge the way the Salaf began theirs. Dr. Alexander Harb, author of The Kingdom of the Heart: Meditations from the Christian East, joins Bear Woznick to explore the heart-centered theology of Eastern Christianity. Together they dive into the mysticism of the early Church Fathers, the origins and meaning of the Jesus Prayer, and the fierce, solitary spirituality of the desert monks like St. Anthony the Great. The discussion centers on how these early Christians pursued holiness not through comfort but through stillness, silence, and struggle—preparing daily for death as the gateway to eternal life.In this episode:⚔️ Spiritual warfare was seen as literal, internal battles with demons and passions.
As regulatory expectations evolve under the FDA's Project Optimus oncology dosing initiative, biostatistics is emerging as a central pillar in designing and executing trials that move beyond the traditional maximum tolerated dose (MTD) approach. In this fourth episode of our Project Optimus series, host Dr. Wael Harb is joined by biostatistics expert X.Q Xue, PhD, Vice President and Global Head, Biostatistics at Syneos Health to explore how statistical science is transforming dose optimization in oncology drug development. Dr. Xue discusses the limitations of legacy 3+3 dose-escalation designs and introduces innovative alternatives, including Bayesian modeling, adaptive trial strategies and randomized parallel dose-response studies, which support more precise dose selection and can ultimately improve patient outcomes and trial efficiency.Together, Drs. Harb and Xue examine how smaller biotech companies can overcome barriers to implementation, the role of simulation and AI in trial planning and how a biostatistics-driven approach may increase the likelihood of late-phase success, reduce post-marketing adjustments and support faster regulatory approvals. The views expressed in this podcast belong solely to the speakers and do not represent those of their organization.
