Eve of 20th Ramadan 1446 AHMarch 19th 2025- Imam Ali divided his life into four phases, with a focus on his 25 years of silence, during which he worked the land to support his family and engaged in charitable acts. - He established numerous endowments (waqf) by cultivating land, planting palm trees, and digging wells to make barren lands arable. - His endowment deed was made purely for seeking Allah's pleasure, ensuring benefits for the poor, his family, and the broader society. - His properties in Yanbu, Wadi al-Qura, Daymah, Udhaynah, and Faqirayn were designated as waqf, with their revenues used for charity and supporting Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib. - Imam Ali appointed Imam Hasan as the custodian of the waqf, granting him full authority to manage and distribute its resources as needed, including settling debts if necessary. - If Imam Hasan passed away, the custodianship would transfer to Imam Husayn, with the same responsibilities and authority. - If both Hasan and Husayn were no longer alive, the next custodian would be chosen from Imam Ali's sons or, if necessary, from the descendants of Abu Talib or Banu Hashim. - The waqf properties could not be sold, gifted, or inherited, and only their revenues were to be used for designated charitable and familial purposes. - Imam Ali also freed several of his slaves, ensuring their welfare and sustenance for a transition period, and set clear conditions for their continued service. - He personally wrote and signed this endowment deed in 37 AH, ensuring witnesses were present to validate its legitimacy. The Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): Understanding His Noble Lineage and Early LifeIntroductionIn the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Studying the Seerah (biography) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is an essential part of understanding Islam. His life serves as a timeless example of virtue, patience, and unwavering faith. This blog highlights key aspects of the Prophet's lineage, early life, and significant events, with references from the Quran and authentic Hadith.1. The Noble Lineage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) belonged to the prestigious Quraysh tribe, tracing his lineage back to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) through Ismail (AS). His noble ancestry is affirmed in the Quran:"Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of 'Imrân above all people of their time." (Quran 3:33)His ancestors were known for their moral integrity, and no instance of illegitimacy tainted his lineage.2. His Blessed Birth and the Year of the ElephantProphet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in the year of the Elephant, marked by Allah's divine intervention when Abraha's army attempted to destroy the Kaaba."Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the Army of the Elephant?" (Quran 105:1)While the exact date remains disputed, many scholars agree he was born on the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal.3. Orphanhood and Allah's CareHis father, Abdullah, passed away before his birth, and his mother, Amina, died when he was six. Despite these losses, Allah provided care through his grandfather Abdul Muttalib and later his uncle Abu Talib."Did He not find you as an orphan and then sheltered you?" (Quran 93:6)4. The Story of the Wet NursesIn accordance with the Arab tradition of sending infants to the desert for better upbringing, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was nursed by Haleemah Sa'diyah. This practice is supported by Quranic guidance on breastfeeding:"Mothers shall breastfeed their children for two whole years, for those who wish to complete the nursing period." (Quran 2:233)While reports about his miraculous birth exist, scholars classify some of these narrations as weak (da'eef).https://islamqa.info/en/answers/247681/is-it-proven-that-when-the-prophet-blessings-and-peace-of-allah-be-upon-him-was-born-he-rested-on-his-arms-raising-his-head-to-heaven5. The Incident of the Chest OpeningWhen Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was around four years old, Angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared, opened his chest, and purified his heart.Anas b. Malik reported: "Gabriel came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) while he was playing with his playmates. He took hold of him, opened his breast, removed a blood-clot, and said: 'That was the part of Satan in you.' Then he washed it with Zamzam water and restored it." (Sahih Muslim 162c)6. Significance of Avoiding InnovationsNeither the Prophet (PBUH) nor his companions celebrated his birthday. Introducing acts of worship not practiced by him is considered innovation (Bid'ah)."This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved Islam as your religion." (Quran 5:3)ConclusionReflecting on the Seerah deepens our understanding of the Prophet's (PBUH) journey and enhances our appreciation for his exemplary character. May we strive to embody his teachings in our daily lives."Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah often." (Quran 33:21)May Allah guide us to follow the footsteps of His beloved Messenger. Alhamdulillah, tonight is the 12th night of Ramadan, and we continue our study of Surah al-An'am. Before we dive in, yesterday marked an important date—the passing of Sayyidah Khadijah رضي الله عنها, the beloved wife and strongest supporter of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. She passed away around the 11th of Ramadan in the tenth year of prophethood, a few weeks before the passing of Abu Talib, marking a year known as ‘Aam al-Huzn (the Year of Sadness).BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Yesterday, we stopped at verse 38, where Allah addresses the Quraysh's demands for miracles. Allah reminds them—and us—that miracles are all around us: birds flying, animals walking, and the very earth we walk upon. These everyday occurrences should remind us constantly of Allah's greatness and power, embedding Taqwa into our daily lives.Allah then describes those who deny His signs as “deaf, mute, and trapped in darkness.” This isn't literal deafness or blindness—it describes hearts and minds closed off to guidance. Allah can guide or misguide, but His misguidance only comes after people repeatedly choose to reject His signs. Remember, we are blessed with Islam purely through Allah's mercy, not by our own superiority. There should be no arrogance or judgment toward others, especially those in need.Every act of charity is an opportunity—like investing in a divine portfolio with guaranteed returns, infinitely better than worldly gains. Imagine, Allah promises a minimum return of tenfold, and during Ramadan, it can be up to seven hundred times or more! So rather than feeling superior, we should actually be thankful to those we help—they're providing us with opportunities for our Akhirah. We also reflected on the nature of As-Sirat Al-Mustaqim (the Straight Path). Interestingly, linguistically the word “Sirat” implies a wide path, spacious enough to accommodate many who seek Allah sincerely. Within Islam, multiple paths lead to the pleasure of Allah—some people excel in prayer, others in fasting, charity, Qur'an recitation, or even simple acts done sincerely at home. For example, a busy mother's daily struggles taking care of her family in Ramadan can be just as rewarding—or more so—than someone who spends all their time in worship at the mosque, purely based on sincerity. There is no single route to Jannah. The Straight Path is broad and accommodating, with numerous paths within it suited to our individual strengths and inclinations.

Episode 56: The Death of Abu Talib Welcome to Seerah Pearls, which aims to highlight some tantalising learning points from each episode of the Seerah- Life of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). The 11th year of Prophethood marks the Year of Sorrow, in which the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) lost his beloved wife Khadijah (RA) and dear Uncle Abu Talib. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was eight when he came to the care of Abu Talib, who became a father-figure in his life. The Prophet's (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) father died before he was born, his mother when he was aged 6, and his grandfather when he was aged 8. Abu Talib and the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) became very attached to each other, with the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) consulting him about major decisions e.g. with regards to his career and marriage. On proclaiming Prophethood, Abu Talib did not accept, but he defended the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) against the Quraysh. Abu Talib falls ill Abu Talib was in his late 70s and very ill. Quraysh realised he was approaching death and they sent a delegation of the leading Qurayshi figures, like Umayyah bin Khalaf and Abu Jahl. The delegation expressed their respect of Abu Talib, but also recognised that he was terminally ill. They wanted to address the political situation without any ambiguity. They did not agree with the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), so they asked for him to be called to negotiate something between them: that he should leave them and they would leave him. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) came and Abu Talib explained that the dignitaries of his people had gathered for negotiations. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) agreed, but never compromised in Tawhid. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) made one request- if they gave this to him, they would rule over all the Arabs and the non-Arabs would come and follow them. Abu Jahl said, ‘Sure, by your father, I am ready, I will agree to 10 things!' The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, ‘Say there is no God but Allah and you leave everything else'. The delegation clapped their hands as a sign of displeasure of this proposition. The delegation started saying to each other that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was not here to compromise, so they would continue the same and see who would come out on top. Everyone walked away, leaving the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) sitting with Abu Talib, who commented, ‘I swear to God, beloved nephew, I do not think you asked them for a lot'. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) thought this was the opportunity to address his uncle. He encouraged him to accept Islam, so that he could vouch for Abu Talib on the Day of Judgement. Abu Talib said, ‘Beloved Nephew, if I was not afraid what these people would do to you and your family and I did not think the Quraysh would assume that I did it to escape death, I would have done it. I will not say it just to please you.' Abu Talib's final moments A few days later, Abu Talib became extremely ill and was breathing his last. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) ran to his bedside, as did the Quraysh leaders. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) kneeled in close and said, ‘Dear Uncle, say there is no God but Allah, just once. Just one word and I will fight on your behalf in front of Allah.' Abu Jahl started screaming, ‘Oh Abu Talib, will you leave the religion of your father, Abu Muttalib?' They kept saying this, almost heckling the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), to the point where Abu Talib could not hear the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Finally, he looked at the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and said, ‘Upon the religion of Abdul Muttalib', and passed away. Allah knows best whether Abu Talib accepted Islam or not, but this is something we do not need to ruminate over.

S11E14: Testing of the Prominent Companions of the Prophet: The Battle of Chains and Other Events

The Light of Reflection

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 21, 2023 22:27

Some of the events where the prominent companions of the prophet were tested first is the battle of chains: there was a tribe in Najd who was a bitter enemy of the prophet. The Prophet has said that the Satan's horn will rise from Najd. This tribe took protection of the mountains and prepared an army to fight the Muslims and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. the prophet gave leadership of an army to Abu bakar and ordered to fight them tell they were finished. Abu Baker wasn't considered a strong fighter or general the enemy asked who he was and Abubakar replied I'm here to finish you they told him that we are large in number and if he doesn't leave we will kill him and send his head and body to Medina upon hearing this he'd retreated the prophet upon seeing Abubakar scolded him and as dinner didn't they tell you to stay there and fight till the end After this the prophet gave the flag to Omar and asked him to go to fight the enemy. It was again a test of Omar and his bravery but the same thing happened the army kept going back and forth and Omar came back empty handed as he was scared. The prophet blamed him that I had given explicit orders to fight those people and not to return till they were defeated. After this the prophet gave the commandership to Amir Abbas to lead the army Amir was considered a skillful general but he also retreated. Next slide after three failed attempts prophet gave the flag to imam Ali al Salam hey Mama Lee went to the army who asked who was he and he replied I am Ali son of Abu Talib. He did not retreat he camped nearby and then the next morning he started the sudden war one hour before the dawn. Victory was given by Allah and imam Ali tied all of the enemy in chains and brought them to Medina. This is also the point when the Surah al Hadid was revealed. Upon seeing the victory of imam Ali AS the prophet said that if I wasn't worried that what will people do after hearing what I know about your attributes I would tell them your blessings and they would start truly revering you. Another event discussed in this podcast is the story of the father of the Khawarij. the prophet asked Abu bakar to go and kill this person but he came back and said prophet how can I kill that person because I saw him in Salah then the prophet asked Omar to kill that person and Omer came back saying I could not kill that person because he was in sujood. Then the prophet asked him out earlier list Salam to go and kill that person but imam Ali al Islam came back and said I could not find that person then the prophet told immaterial Islam that you will see that person in the battle of nahrawan and you will kill that person. After the battle of nahrawan, Imam Ali AS asked this companions if they found that person the companions came back in they said they did not find that person. So Imam Ali AS himself vent and found the person and told them that the prophet did not lie and this is the person. The way I recognize this person is with his third breast. Another point when both Omar and Abubakar disobeyed the prophet was when they were ordered to go under the army of Osama and they did not go but hey mom was not asked to do so. This shows that imam Ali AS was both superior to both Omar and Abu bakar and he completed the orders of the prophet which others fail to do so.

S11E4: Question 4 - Was Abu Bakr jealous of Ali Ibn Abu Talib AS?

The Light of Reflection

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 18, 2022 9:41

Question 4 - Was Abu Bakr jealous of Ali Ibn Abu Talib? This jealousy is proven through historical events. Two examples: 1- Revelation of Surah Al-Bara'a (Surah Taubah) When the Prophet made treaties, the Muslims went for Hajj the next year of the treaty of Hudebiyah. This first group of Muslims was led by Abu Bakr. However, as the non-Muslim tribes broke the treaty, Allah revealed Surah Al-Bara'a and asked the Prophet to convey the message to the Kufar of Makkah. The Prophet asked Abu Bakr to inform the Meccans when he reaches there. However, Angel Jibrael came from Allah and asked the Prophet to either convey the message himself or someone like him should convey it. Even though Prophet knew what Allah meant, he explicitly asked Jibrael, who should do this work. The angel replied Ali Ibn Abu Talib AS. So the Prophet asked Imam Ali to rush and take the leadership of the Hajj caravan from Abu Bakr and convey this message to Abu Bakr. Once Imam Ali took the charge, Abu Bakr got really angry. Instead of completing the Hajj, he returned angrily to the Prophet and didn't complete Hajj for Allah. According to some narrations, he even didn't say Salam to the Prophet and asked why did he ask Abu Bakr to give over the leadership. If there was no animosity, he could've just continued the Hajj and submitted to the Prophet's saww command. 2- Revelation of the verse about raising houses When this verse was revealed, Abu Bakr pointed towards the house of Syeda Fatima Zehra and Imam Ali AS, asking if this house is included. The Prophet replied that this is the best of those houses. Why would someone ask about some other house than his/her own house when a general verse is revealed? It is just out of curiosity, love, or hatred. We have seen that from the above example, Abu Bakr didn't have love for Imam Ali AS otherwise, he would've continued the Hajj. So the only justification is that he was jealous and wanted to know whether this house is included or not to make him feel better (if not included).

Ok, so Europe was reeling from the volcanic winter of 536, and then the subsequent Plague of Justinian in 541, and it was beginning to descend into the Dark Ages. But nearby, in the Arabian Peninsula, things were just about to get really busy. In AD 570, in the small desert town of Mecca, a boy was born into the Arab tribe of Quraysh, the tribe that controlled Mecca. This boy was named Muhammad ibn Abdullah, which means, Muhammad, the son of Abdullah. But his father, Abdullah, died very shortly after Muhammad was born, and his mother, Amina, died when he was 6. So he was raised by his uncle, his father's brother, Abu Talib.
