Like so many others, author Heidi Smith found herself unmoored by a confluence of personal and professional trials during the peak of the COVID pandemic. While several familiar and sustaining allies fortified her throughout this time, the most lifesaving of all was a new element that bloomed in her spiritual practice: prayer. Heidi has always had a relationship with prayer, but now that relationship was blossoming into a more liberating, soulful practice. As she sought to deepen this exploration into the ancient truths and wisdom of prayer, she longed for books that supported her journey but came up short. Ultimately, she decided to set out to write her own book presenting an empowering, radical reframing of prayer as a secular tool for healing, personal growth, societal change, and profound joy. In THE UNCOMMON BOOK OF PRAYER, Smith introduces a new definition of prayer: an active agreement that you make between your soul and the Divine (whatever that means to you). It is a sacred practice that can be called upon to bring about states of grace, healing, and change. THE UNCOMMON BOOK OF PRAYER, explores the idea of prayer as a highly personal practice that can bring joy and enlightenment, heal deeply felt trauma, and work toward planetary healing. Welcome back to the studio. This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up. The original purpose of these episodes was to give broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own. Then I realized that you are just as important. Share the reality of how it really went. We begin things with James Murr Murray from Impractical Jokers. The other side of his life sees him as a brilliant author. That's who we're tapping into. You know the dirty jobs guy Mike Rowe right? His mother is back with me with another fun loving book blessed with amazing reality and laughter. The very upbeat Peggy Rowe. Then we're gonna take a spin through this idea of what prayer is and isn't. Hold on… don't tap out yet. We won't be crossing religious lines. Heidi Smith is an amazing conversation. We'll wrap things up with David Scott from Court TV's True Crime. His latest series is Interview With A Killer. This is My Day of Play. Today on Asked and Answered By Soul, Jennifer Urezzio and Heidi Smith, sacred space alchemist, professional interior designer and founder of Sacred Space Living, talk about creating aligned sacred spaces which allow us a soft place to land and a strong place to launch our vision from. As we change our external environment, we can re-create where we live in a way that best suits who we have become, and who we sense we are becoming. Join us here as Jennifer and Heidi offer ideas for simple energy exercises that help us align our surroundings with the cosmic energies and the five natural elements to begin creating sacred spaces which encourages us to grow and thrive. Think about what you can do right now that will make your life feel better, and don't underestimate the energetic shift that can occur just by moving or changing one small thing in your environment. You can learn more about her at: http://www.heidilsmith.com/. About Heidi Things began to change for Heidi in miraculous ways as she awakened to a conscious spiritual path. Grace, wisdom, and love like never before, brought a greater depth and appreciation to Heidi's life. Decades earlier, she embarked on professional schooling for interior design which led to creating lovely home interiors for her clients, a traditional path that she followed for years. However, Heidi's ever-expanding path to awakening continued to offer more to her work in the world than what meets the eye. Her passions for spiritual practices, study of ancient wisdoms, deities that provided inner guidance, along with a developed depth of intuition, informed both a renewed life path, as well as a more aligned career direction for Heidi, thus revealing deeper, sustainable and more meaningful ways to serve her clients. Today, at the center of Heidi's life and her work are the loving and nourishing energies of Mother Mary, the deity Heidi most resonates with and is deeply connected to. Heidi's work is integrated with her channel to Mother Mary's essence and is a unique amalgamation of powerful, spiritual, intuitive and practical modalities that brings her clients into the realm and rewards of their own personal, spiritual sacred space experiences. Heidi's wish is for all to experience a soft place to land and a strong place to launch. The Asked and Answered by Soul podcast is dedicated to helping you understand that your Soul is the answer. Fr. Russ and Heidi Smith on the Law and Grace by Jesus the Good Shepherd Anglican Church
The 9th of August 2002 changed our family forever. This was the day our beautiful sister-in-law Gayle became caught in the PTO shaft of a post-hole digger while building their garden fence with her husband Mac. 22 years on and both Mac and Gayle continue to amaze their family and friends with their incredible resilience, tenacity, grace and kindness. They have both worked very hard – harder than most when you understand the processes they go through even before they start their day. To say they are inspirational is an understatement and something they don't particularly see – they're too busy getting on with their lives. There is certainly no time to look back to wonder why the accident had to happen and there are certainly no excuses in this camp. As family, we are all so proud of them both. I'm particularly grateful to Gayle for sitting down with me to share her story. Thank you too, to Bec Fing and Heidi Smith, the power behind ‘RISE' for so graciously supporting our interview. I hope you enjoy hearing from this amazing woman.

Coaching is an interesting field with many nuances, and we hear a LOT of buzz about coaching right now. There are coaches for literally EVERY aspect of life. While there are things to appreciate about the field of coaching, there are definitely things to look out for, as well. I'm joined by my good friend, Heidi Smith, who is a Licensed Professional Counselor. In Part 2 of this conversation, I'm joined by Rachel Ambrose for a coach's perspective. Rachel is a coach for neurodivergents who has been diagnosed with ADHD and autism. As someone who holds multiple coaching certifications, she is here to give us a better look at the coaching field. She talks about the bounds of coaching and her personal experience around green and red flags in the industry. Rachel shares tips to help people know how to find a helpful coach and be more knowledgeable about the coaching field. Show Highlights: How Heidi partners with clients and coaches in her counseling work Why there are legitimate questions about the training and oversight in the coaching field Why coaching is, by definition, a less intimidating relationship than with a therapist but is like “paying for a friend” How coaching and therapy embody very different relationships, lanes, and ethics What to consider in questions about licensure and certifications The ethical rabbit hole around the client's relationship with therapists and coaches Why the coaching field is like the Wild West right now Pitfalls in the coaching industry around sexual integrity, case management, interventions, and narcissism KC's experience in researching ADHD coaching The vagueness around a “spirituality coach” The bottom line about coaching: “Do your research and be aware of potential drawbacks.” Part 2 from Rachel Amrose: Green and red flags around coaching around the following: Power dynamics in the relationship “I have the cure/the magical answer for your problem!” Concrete, actionable items How to know if a coach's training is worthwhile or not How to gauge a coach's willingness to refer out–and stay in their lane Resources and Links: Connect with Rachel Ambrose: Website Get KC's book, How to Keep House While Drowning We love the sponsors that make this show possible! Small things can make all the difference, and each person gets to decide for themselves what those little steps are that uplift our spirits and lighten our load. These little things are NOT the same for everyone! A simple thing, like having her hair washed and styled twice weekly, helps energize today's guest and makes her feel that she can take on the world–and she doesn't need to make excuses for it. Join us to hear my conversation with Heidi Smith. Show Highlights: How Heidi decided that having someone “do her hair” twice each week is a BIG deal for her mental health Why we have to decide for ourselves how to spend our emotional energy, which is in limited supply Why it is ridiculous that women put so much pressure on themselves to be presentable because of external motivation Why our self-care routines should serve us and have a place in our functionality How parenting responsibilities evolved for Heidi to finally allow her to take time for yourself Why the best advice around self-care tasks is to find what works best for YOU Resources: Connect with KC: TikTok, Instagram, and Website Get KC's book, How to Keep House While Drowning

What happens when a psychosomatic therapist and a somatic psychotherapist team up? They do incredible work about topics like co-dependency that you and I get to benefit from. Today's episode with Heidi Smith of Moon and Bloom, and Deborah Bagg of Love is Juniper is filled with helpful information. What is co-dependency? How can we know it when we feel it? What's a caring relationship versus controlling one? Both Heidi and Deborah give some tools to navigating the topic for as Deborah put it "optimal relationships," which I am stealing and love. Games people play: we've all been guilty at one time or another, whether intentionally or not. I'm referring to the disingenuous forms of communication we use in daily life. There are various reasons why we alter our communication in certain situations, and it's usually because we want something from another person. I'm joined by Heidi Smith, LPC, and one of my best friends, who just happens to be my former supervisor when I was learning to be a therapist. Let's dive deep into games, manipulation, boundaries, and relationships. Join us for the conversation around this fascinating topic! Show Highlights: Is it disingenuous communication, manipulation, or something in-between? Why attention-seeking behavior might really be connection-seeking behavior The “games” people play: The trump card, (the “Ace of Spades”), is the issue, trauma, circumstance, or affliction that someone believes gives them carte blanche to never have to change and to always be accommodated by others. Examples: ADHD, PTSD, a serious illness Some people learn the script to say that excuses them from accountability, like “I'm working on it.” Even with their objectionable behaviors, people deserve and want to be loved and accepted. Why, in our relationships, we have to be well and not allow others' behaviors that damage us How different people have different tolerance levels for discomfort in relationships The most powerful, insidious trump card: “If you do/don't do _______, I will kill myself.” Resources: Connect with KC: TikTok, Instagram, and Website Get KC's book, How to Keep House While Drowning

We wouldn’t have posters without paper, and we wouldn’t have paper without trees. Posters were one the earliest forms of advertisement, and they are to this day the most cost-effective form of promotion. But we also buy posters for their design and art value, as well. Today, I talk with Angelina Lippert, Poster House chief curator, the first museum in the US—based in New York—dedicated exclusively to posters. She will tells us, of course, how plants and nature are represented on posters, but also the value of collecting them as historical documents. Angelina will talk about the World’s most famous posters and why they are so valuable. Heidi Smith, Poster House director of retail operations, is joining us as well to discuss why buying objects with great craftsmanship from a museum’s store is like bringing part of its collection home, and will highlight a few favorites that make great holiday gifts. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/paloola/message

Heidi Smith graduated with Full-time Web Development Cohort 35. My husband shared with me about NSS and how he thought it would be a good fit. He loved the program and it changed his life. I really enjoyed the coding challenges that were presented in the required pre-work and decided to apply to NSS. I love learning new concepts, and ways to incorporate those concepts, and being challenged. Through web development I hope to combine my passion for helping people with my love for learning.

This episode leaves us here at YGTMAMA a little torn. We think it is an important topic and needs to be talked about. Sabrina has personally suffered silently with aspects of this issue. The mandate of YGTMAMA is to service mamas by talking about the grey areas we encounter on this journey that is motherhood. So this may not be an interesting or popular topic with every mama, but it is certainly an issue that affects some of you out there. We struggled with the questions: Is it too controversial? Will we lose listeners and community members? Will we hear #truthbombs we are not ready to hear? You see there are some mixed emotions and powerful stigmas associated with motherhood and the consumption of alcohol. How much is too much? Are we numbing a deeper issue? Isolation, boredom, postpartum depression. Has society encouraged a new demographic of the ‘Wine Mom?” You see, Sabrina is the proverbial "wine-mom", we sometimes do playdates with a 'traveler' in the form of a wine filled adult sippy cup. Just 'one glass with dinner' is not the way it goes in her household. We here at YGTMAMA enjoy wine, Sabrina worked in the beverage alcohol industry for many years. It wasn't until becoming a mother though, that she started seeing her consumption as a potential 'problem'. Sabrina found herself drinking not for enjoyment, but necessity, to calm her shattered nerves after a long day of baby talk, temper tantrums and wiping butts. This episode is not to judge or make mamas feel bad about their habits. We have society and other mommy groups for that. Or to say that every mama who needs a glass of wine to unwind after a tough day of mommin' is an alcoholic. This episode is to empower mamas and let them know IF they are struggling with something (anything really), they are not alone. This episode is to ignite the conversation without the shame and embarrassment. Not unlike the #metoo movement, sometimes it is not easy to come forward and speak up. This is the safe space to do so! We have some fabulous guests with us today to shine some light on the darkness: Jillian West AKA Soberlicious Mama and Heidi Smith. Jillian is a Mother of 3 girls and wife to James West. She is an active member in the recovery community and very passionate about helping women, especially mothers, live a life free from addiction to any and all substances. Jillian is an advocate for women entrenched in the sex trade wishing to exit. You can follow her on social media where she features her life as a Mama, an influencer and her personal recovery journey. Jillian is an upcoming co-author in YGTM2. She is the creator of the Soberlicious Mamas Support Group and a personal trainer specializing in Postpartum Fitness. Heidi Smith is a professional business woman - CEO of Addictive Designs Inc., Operator of Right Sized Coaching and Founder of Arch Angels Society; that supports new moms in recovery. However, her greatest title is ‘mom'. She is a full-time mom to her son Rocco 12, and stepmom to Savannah 17 and Jacob 15. It is Heidi's mission to unify those that are recovering from what was lost. She is an outspoken, feisty advocate around recovery and has been heard and seen in media across North America over the last 7 years. She believes that everyone is recovering from something. Heidi is in full-time recovery from her addictions and trauma - none of which works against her. She is here to smash the stigma around addiction by letting it fuel her passions with design, media, and coaching. Heidi will always stand on the frontline supporting Women and Moms in recovery - showing them that they too can be their true authentic self. You can follow her journey on social media too We want to preface this again by saying we are not here to judge. Wine is talked about a lot on this show and we have no negative judgments towards the ‘wine moms' out there.

"Would've been a quiet night, too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids!" Stop-motion animation has been a part of film since nearly the beginning, starting with a toy circus coming to life in 1898's “The Humpty Dumpty Circus.” Since then, it's undergone many critical changes and improvements as filmmakers have experimented with what they could do with it, and in 2012, Laika released the first stop-motion animated feature film to use a 3D color printer to create the character faces. The movie, “ParaNorman,” was a comedy horror for kids and certainly seemed to find its audience while also creating quite a bit of controversy. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we start off our brief vacation challenge series with Chris Butler's and Sam Bell's horror comedy for the kids, “ParaNorman.” We talk about why Pete picked this movie and what he loves about not just this film but stop-motion animation in general. We chat about the directors behind this animated film and what sort of the criticism the film received upon its release (and still to this day!) due to the violence it depicted, the sexual situations and the fact that it has an openly gay character. We discuss not just the actors that voiced the characters – from Kodi Smit-McPhee and Tucker Albrizzi to Anna Kendrick and Casey Affleck – but also Heidi Smith who designed the characters and the animators who brought them to life. We look at Butler's screenplay and chat about why it's such a strong script. And we marvel at the cinematography, production design, rigging, effects and everything else that goes into making a stop-motion animated film, thrilled with how well this team did at focusing and working together to create a wholly realized world. It's an absolute blast to watch and certainly one well worth talking about. Is it safe for the kids? We think so and argue the point but some people aren't so sure so perhaps look into it a bit before watching with your own children. Regardless, tune in after you've seen it to hear our thoughts!
