Suspense "Forcast The Lodger Audition" (July 21, 1940) CBS Presented "The Lodger" as its audition program of the hugely successful radio series Suspense. Mr. Alfred Hitchcock brilliant English director of such outstanding motion pictures as "The Thirty-Nine Steps", Rebbeca and Foreign Correspondent was eager to create a very special type of radio drama, the suspense stories. As narrator and star of his production he thought at once of the distinguished actor with whom he had been associated in countless British film successes, Herbert Marshall. Mr Marshall suggested that they dramatized a certain favorite story of his and that story happened to be the very one Mr Hitchcok had in mind, Marie Belloc-Lowndes classic in chills, The Lodger. The Lodger is a work of fiction, which springs from recorded fact a story that begins in the year 1888 in London, a London terrorised by the fifth in a succession of recent murders. It is believed that these deeds were the works of one person, a tall gaunt figure in a black Inverness cape carrying a small narrow bag. The mysterious killer known as the Avenger preyed on young attractive blond haired women just like Daisy the daughter of the Buntings, the Buntings who had taken in a gentleman lodger… --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/waldina/message

¡Disfruten!
Chris is back as our permanent co-host and to welcome him we are talking about a favourite of his, the Hughes Brothers' 2001 Jack the Ripper horror From Hell, starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham and a stellar supporting cast including Ian Holm and Robbie Coltrane. The film is part of a long history of Ripper-inspired horror films going back to Hitchcok's 1927 The Lodger, and it is also based on Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's graphic novel of the same name. With a stellar cast and an intricate plot, it's a film that is steeped in legend and wears it well, like a shadowy figure in the London night.

Yo fam. We have been DYING to do the Desperate Housewives episode and HERE IT IS! Jaunt along with us to Wysteria Lane (which Haase totally forgets and then remembers) as we enter a world of what we think may actually be brilliantly humorous satire. It also might just be terrible. We're not sure. Still a little shaken from the Hitchcok-lisque twists and turns of Bates Motel. We have some very important questions like "Will Katherine ever be sane again?", "Is Danny Douche Hair as awful, or worse, than we think?" and "Where exactly are the Bolen's from, and why can't Haase do a consistent accent of them?" It's a good time guys, but you already know that's in store when you click the download button. If you dig our show please share it with friends and family, maybe a well placed Facebook link, or a billboard on the 405, we're not picky. Either way, enjoy. Tune in each Monday as we choose a new show and make more wildly inaccurate assumptions. Okay byeeeeee.

It's the heartwarming story of a Welsh commando and his intrepid American sidekick, their girlfriends, and a great deal of dynamite cutting a swath of destruction across the German mountainside and a trail of dead bodies a couple of miles long. Richard Burton shuffles off his Shakespearean coil and dons an SS officer's uniform to wax poetical about how much he loves Hitler or maybe not or maybe, it's very confusing. I think at one point he is acting as a quadruple agent. The plot is nevertheless watertight; the acting is terrific; the directing workmanlike; and the stunt work spectacular. It's one of the greatest WW2 adventures committed to film and my teenage memory, keeps up a breakneck pace (sometimes literally), and it's so long you can take a nap at a couple of points and not miss any of the ridiculously complicated plot. I wax poetical about the guns, cars, and aircraft, explain who is who, determine if the film passes the Bechdel Test, and generally have a good time, altho I mix up the aerial tramway with an inclined railway and sing a bit of "Funiculi Funicula", and I may have suggested that Alec Guinness starred in Hitchcok's Secret Agent when it was in fact John Gielgud. I compare it to Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Inception, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, other WW2 movies, Hammer horror, James Bond, Top Secret, buddy cop movies, and The Thing.

Leading Hollywood actors of the time starred in suspense films.PLOTThe Lodger served as an audition show for the wildly popular radio series Suspense. Mr Alfred Hitchcock, the renowned English filmmaker of films like The Thirty-Nine Steps, Rebbeca, and Foreign Correspondent, was eager to create a unique sort of radio drama called suspense stories. He immediately thought of Herbert Marshall, the great actor with whom he had been associated in several British film hits, as narrator and star of his project. Mr Marshall recommended that they reenact one of his favorite stories, which proved to be the one Mr Hitchcok had in mind, Marie Belloc-Lowndes' chilling classic The Lodger. The Lodger is a work of fiction based on true events that opens in 1888 in London, where the fifth in a series of recent killings has terrorized the city. These crimes are thought to have been committed by one individual, a tall gaunt figure wearing a black Inverness cape and carrying a little thin satchel. The Avenger, a mysterious serial murderer, preyed on young attractive blond haired ladies like Daisy, the Buntings' daughter, who had taken in a gentleman lodger...About the Podcast:Mystery Theater Old Time Radio PodcastWe bring you the best radio plays and programs of mystery, intrigue, and comedy from the Golden Age of Radio.
