Shawn Levy is riding a major wave with the succsess of Deadpool and Wolverine. His Star Wars film has been the question on many interviewers docket when interviewing the director. Josh Horowitz os Happy Sad Confused asked Levy about his film. He confirmed it will be a standalone and played coy when asking if he had cast in mind. "You're asking the right questions" was the response Horowitz received. Should this happen? Will it be good for the brand or is it a box office play. Talking Trash is a show to discuss movies that some people deem to be garbage, mediocre or just one that people never knew existed, we talk through the plot in spoiler fashion while asking "is this a bad movie?" And if not "what is the worst movie ever made?"It's may and we are randomly watching movies from this year (2024) that we've found insane. This week we discuss Zack Snyder And his Netflix streaming space operas, Rebel Moon part 1 and 2. Of course we talk all the Snyder things like Jesus imagery, Slow Motion and Grain. Lots of Grain. Music by Karl Casey @whitebataudio on Instagram and YouTube. Also clips from YouTube channels interviewing Mr. Snyder like Josh Horowitz and Yahoo UK. In the interview, he asked them about their Star Wars project. It was reported that they were the ones who came up with the idea of exploring the origins of the force, the first Jedi etc.. After they departed, it was announced that James Mangold would be doing a movie in the same time period. It seemed as if Lucasfilm made it seem that Mangold pitched this time period. Josh asked them about this and their response is interesting. So what happened? Katy O'Brien could be the new villain in MissionImpossible and tons of TV talk. Prophecy Radio episode #113 dives deep into Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 2, “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom.” This is our in-depth, spoiler-filled analysis of the second episode. We also go through some of the articles that came out of Percy Jackson press week, and read out a few pieces of listener feedback. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and we keep our discussions PG-13. News and Updates (00:02:53) Josh Horowitz had the trio and Rick and Becky Riordan on Happy Sad Confused. Logan Lerman wrote a little message to Walker! Aryan has CALVES OF STEEL. Did you remember that the owls in the second episode were wild!? Leah didn't know Nirvana was a band and Lin was very upset. Walker is terrified of Dior, and we love it. We debate the merits of Percy Jackson vs. Harry Potter. Everyone is so excited for us to see Ares! All signs point toward Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. TV Insider quizzed the trio on their knowledge of the book, and it was TOUGH. Percy Jackson and the Olympians led the charge for the top 25 buzziest shows of the week. Screenrant's interview might be full of ads, but we break down the important bits. Liam's interview with the trio was, of course, highly anticipated. He also got to play a game of Heads Up with them! Essence spoke to Leah Jeffries about staying true to herself. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiere was the event of the year! We talk about the blue carpet and the outfits that stood out to us. We also got to see Adam Copeland and Dior Goodjohn meet for the first time. There's also plenty of BTS footage from the premiere. Have you checked out the show's ratings on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes? Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 2, “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom” (00:42:12) SO glad we got the “you drool when you sleep” line! Percy is still very mad at Grover, and you can tell Grover feels terrible. He's the one who told everyone about the minotaur! The Big House is so incredibly beautiful. PETER JOHNSON IS HERE! Percy is so sassy, even when his life is hanging in the balance. Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus! Percy is not at all phased by the fact that Mr. Brunner is actually Chiron the centaur. Can we please have more Chiron and Mr. D banter? Camp Half-Blood is everything we could've dreamed and more. Percy's already got the measure of the gods, and he's been here for two seconds. Being the new kid really sucks. But at least Luke seems nice? We're OBSESSED with the dryad we meet in the next scene. And we loved the Council of Cloven Elders even though we didn't get to see much of it. Mr. D is actually kind of scary when he wants to be. What does Percy's dream mean and WHO is talking to him?? We love all the representation we see amongst the campers! Was that Charlie Beckendorf? There IS a a goddess of failure after all. That scene where Percy burns the candy to talk to his mom was DEVASTATING. Clarisse is up to no good, and even though she isn't how we pictured her from the books, we like her portrayal a lot. Annabeth totally figured out who Percy's father was in this scene. Why-oh-why do we have to pronounce Thalia that way?? FINALLY we get the Capture the Flag scene, and it is GLORIOUS. The fight choreography is great so far. How much do you want to learn about crested geckos? The way Percy just smashes Clarisse's sword? Oh, he's gonna pay. Percy Jackson, son of the sea god, Poseidon. We get a quest and a deadline. Must be a Percy Jackson story. It makes SO MUCH SENSE to tell Percy that his mom is still alive. Feedback (02:15:40) WisdomsDaughter correctly states that we've been waiting YEARS for an adaptation like this. Annie tells us that Percy Jackson trends every day in Brazil! The Demigod Disasters Podcast agrees that we're OLD. We have a new friend in the A Bite Of Podcast! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 114, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 3 in detail! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #111 is our biggest and best episode yet. After attending several press conferences during Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week, we break down all the new information and behind-the-scenes stories. We also got to watch the first two episodes of the show, so we give you our spoiler-free thoughts on our initial reactions. December 20 is fast approaching! Black Sails is coming to Netflix US in January. The Sun and the Star is on Kirkus' Best Of 2023 Middle Grade list. If you went to one of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians advanced screenings, be sure to let us know! Did you see the new Percy Jackson character posters? Don't forget the quick clip of Percy, Nancy, and Mrs. Dodds at the museum. There's a Your Morning interview with Walker, Leah, and Aryan. We also got posters of Medusa, Alecto, and the minotaur. Jason Mantzoukas was on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The trio present Greek Mythology 101 and absolutely kill it. This video also gave us our first look at the Fates and the Oracle. There's new promo left and right, like this clip with Grover saying, “Bad dog!” to Cerberus. Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused with the trio will premiere soon. We LOVE that Logan sent in a little message to Walker. Liam is getting his own show called Riptide Radio, and we couldn't be happier! Rick answers five questions from Instagram, and then answers some more in his December 13 blog post. Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week (00:27:50) We've got A LOT of interviews to cover, so sit back and enjoy our breakdown of the highlights. (You can also read the accompanying article.) First up, we've got showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, plus Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. How familiar were the kids with the books? How did they make these characters their own? Which scenes best showcased Percabeth? What was it like being on the Camp Half-Blood set? Someone asked Walker if he was going to be in Deadpool 3! What aspect of their own personalities did they put into their characters? Which scenes were they most excited to film? How much babysitting did Aryan have to do!? How did they toe the line between being faithful to the books and bringing this story to life in a different medium? What did they take home from the set? (Aryan's answer got us VERY excited.) What did Walker learn from his co-stars? Our friends at Monster Donut Podcast got to ask what their favorite myths are. There were several questions about being faithful to the books, and we love Jon and Dan's answers. Next up, we got to talk to Jeff White, the visual effects supervisor for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. How did the team make the world of Percy Jackson stand out? What creature did they have the most fun creating? We get some really cool behind-the-scenes information about how Chiron was brought to life. We also learned how much Aryan did to bring Grover to the small screen. Jeff also talked about the Volume stage and how integral it was to creating the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He also told us a few fun stories about figuring out different ways to bring aspects of the story alive, like Riptide and Iris Messaging. What drew Jeff to this project? Time and time again, everyone said how often they'd go back to the books for inspiration! Next up, we heard from set designer Dan Henna and costume designer Tish Monaghan. They both talk about their process for expanding on what was given in the books. We also learn how they both helped bring Camp Half-Blood to life. Hearing about Alecto's transformation really added to our feelings about the scene. There was so much talk about Medusa's portrayal, and we're even more excited to see her on screen now. And who can forget about the Lotus Hotel and Casino? They both describe their favorite costumes and sets. Again, the constant mantra on set was “go back to the book.” Lastly, we also got to hear from Rick and Becky Riordan! There was lots of talking about refreshing the story and doing some things Rick wished he would've done 20 years ago. They also talk about how they just knew when they found the trio. There were no pre-conceived notions about who would be cast as the gods. Becky commented on the fact that they got to expand upon Luke's motivations. We also learn about some moments from the series that can't be found in the book. They didn't want slapstick comedy, but there are still plenty of laughs. It's important that the show feels modern and timeless. We can't wait to learn more about Sally and Poseidon's relationship! Did you know that Rick and Becky didn't go see Camp Half-Blood until it was all finished? We were so excited to learn how important Becky was to the process of adapting the series. Seaweed Brain Podcast got to ask them if Percabeth was the greatest love story of all time! Would we want to see a Percy Jackson and the Olympians musical episode? We'll have more to discuss next week! Be sure to leave us your thoughts! Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 spoiler-free review (02:12:21) We got to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 ahead of the premiere date and WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SHOW. First, we have to give you our overall thoughts, which is that we absolutely loved the episodes we got to see. The quality of the show is immaculate, between the set production, the costuming, and the visual effects. It's also extremely accurate to the source material! Anything they changed was small-scale, and felt logical for the tone of the story. Seeing Camp Half-Blood was surreal, and the Big House was beautiful! It was amazing that they somehow made everyone look like individuals despite all wearing the same shirts. And Chiron and Mr. D's costumes were perfect and fit them so well. We talk more about the dryad that Tish Monaghan mentioned. Okay, but now we need to get into our thoughts on everyone's performances. Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson is literally perfect. He OWNS this character. We also can't get enough of Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. She's silent a lot through her scenes, but she says SO MUCH. And then there's Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. He's got great chemistry with Walker, and his comedic timing is also genius. But we were super impressed by Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson. And no one will be surprised that Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus. And the same goes for Glynn Turman as Chiron, who is more perfect than anyone could've dreamed. This is, without a doubt, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation that we've always dreamed of. Feedback (02:42:58) Mac wants to know if CRITICS will enjoy the show? Ark is curious if there are some fan-favorite quotes that made it into the series. Dr. Tiezn needs to know more about Camp Half-Blood coming to life. Solomon's son wants to know if the show is accurate to the book. Meanwhile, Ennis is worried about Grover's hair. We also hear from Rebeca, who talks about Chalice of the Gods and might start her own podcast in Spanish! Darcy also writes in to tell us which Rick Riordan Presents book are currently optioned and at which streaming services. Stick around for our updated schedule! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 112, in which we'll discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 1 in all its glory! This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Before the time-travelling talks, the programmable rooms, the ladders and rocket launchers, we had the first real Bret Victor essay: Magic Ink. It set the stage for Bret's later explorations, breaking down the very idea of "software" into a few key pieces and interrogating them with his distinct focus, then clearly demoing a way we could all just do it better. All of Bret's works feel simultaneously like an anguished cry and a call to arms, and this essay is no exception. For the next episode, we're reading Programming as Theory Building as Peter Naur, with a little bit of Gilbert Ryle's The Concept of Mind thrown in for good measure. The Witness is a game where communicating ideas through (essentially) graphic design is the whole entire point of the game. The (Not Boring) apps are arguably a counterpoint to Bret's theses about information apps and harmful interaction, where the interaction and graphic design are balanced against being maximally-informative, toward being silly and superfluous, to great effect. Did you know there's a hobby horse, but also a hobby horse? I didn't! During an interview with TheWrap, Wakanda Forever producer Nate Moore discussed the legal issues standing in the way of Disney and Marvel Studios producing a Namor solo film. Like the Hulk, Namor is still controlled by Universal, and has essentially been "borrowed" by Marvel Studios. In the MCU, Namor can appear in team-up films and the like, but cannot star in a solo movie. Namor also cannot appear by himself in promotional material, with the only exception being for a character poster that's released as part of a larger series of posters. MCU – MARVEL STUDIOS NEWS Marvel Studios Develops Ideas on a 'Not-So-Secret' Retreat https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-secret-retreat-mcu/ Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore has pulled back the curtain of the company's creative process ever so slightly, dishing on an occasional retreat held for key personnel. During an appearance on The Town podcast, the producer of films such as Black Panther and Captain America shared that the "not-so-secret retreat," held at Palm Springs "every year or two," is where top executives discuss ideas and aspirations for major films made by the studio. While studio boss Kevin Feige has discussed them previously, Moore has shed some new light over what goes on behind closed doors. "We just talk about interesting characters or stories we'd love to tell or,‘Hey, if we could do anything we wanted, what would it be? Who would it be? What characters haven't we used that we're passionate about?'" Moore explained. The retreat typically leads to one or two major "tent poles" that are then further discussed. In fact, Moore revealed that the concept of the Multiverse and building Phase 1 around the Infinity Gauntlet were all products of ideation at the retreat. He also shared that working together on such massive ideas is made easier since they have "50+ years of material to pull from." Despite an "overwhelming" number of ideas that are shared at the retreat, the most passionate individuals work on bringing these ambitious projects to life. Delving deeper into the workings of the retreat, Moore also highlighted how characters are created and the importance of an executive becoming an expert on a specific character once they're given the go-ahead. "For instance," Moore said, when I was put on Captain America 2, literally reading every appearance of Captain America in publishing. It takes about, I would say about 3 to 4 months." Creatives often have to go through archives of Marvel content after an idea is pitched at the retreat. During this process, they also begin building an "internal document" that makes note of the most compelling characters and their stories. Moore shared the process of his research for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, explaining that it gave him the opportunity to encounter "characters that are really great, moments that are really great, cool facts that you maybe don't know off the surface or off a Wikipedia entry." This in-depth research is also crucial because it gives creatives a chance to filter out problematic content in the comics and tweak it for the big screen while simultaneously coming away with "a document that's a little bit indicative of what we think the movie could be." Once executives do their homework, the ideas are fleshed out and the pitch is then broken down and rebuilt and eventually translated into the blockbuster films that we watch onscreen. Chris Hemsworth Explains Why He Hasn't Watched Tom Hiddleston's Loki https://www.cbr.com/chris-hemsworth-mcu-watchlist-not-up-to-date/ Actor Chris Hemsworth has played an integral role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor. The franchise star recently revealed, however, that he isn't quite up-to-date on all of the expansive franchise's films and Disney+ shows. Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Hemsworth stated outright that he was unable to keep up with everything Marvel Studios has had to offer. He only recently caught an episode of the Loki series. When asked if he hadn't seen the entire show yet, the MCU star explained, "I've got three kids and… I'm off gallivanting around the place… No, I haven't watched anything. It's not because I don't want to. I just haven't had time." Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3 trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3V5KDHRQvk X-Men's James McAvoy Addresses Rumored MCU Return as Xavier https://www.cbr.com/x-men-james-mcavoy-return-secret-wars-responds/ Former X-Men star James McAvoy has debunked rumors that he will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Professor Charles Xavier. In an interview with GQ, the actor stated that he had no desire to join the MCU even as his former X-Men co-stars join the franchise. "I'm very quick to say, 'No, I'm done.' Or 'I'm not that bothered about coming back.' Because you move forward," McAvoy said, who also addressed rumors that Marvel Studios had asked him to return for Avengers: Secret Wars. "I've definitely not got the call. And if I did I would definitely not be telling you." OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:19:39] We would love to hear back from you!
