Idaho Travel and Packing Advice. My mission is world peace through cultural exchange. In this episode, the FAQ is: You asked about packing tips. Listen to how you can cut out half. Today's Destination is: Idaho Travel Today's Mistake- Losing my skis on the way home from the resort Travel Advice: Follow the Five Steps to Solo Travel FAQ: Do you have any good packing tips for me? Answer: Yes, take half of what you think you need. You don't need it all. You can purchase what you forgot at the nearby store when you arrive. Keep your pack light and your path easy. Do you need a hair dryer? Maybe not. Ask whether the hotel has one. Do you need a lot of makeup? Maybe not as you are traveling. Do you need an outfit for every day? No, you can mix and match, so keep the colors simple, and don't overdo the clothing. You may not even need half of it. Now you have room in your suitcase for souvenirs and gifts for those friends back home. The 60-second confidence challenge is to remove half of your items from your suitcase before you travel. Lighten your load. You can get it later, most of the time, if you really need it. And you likely don't need all of those clothes you packed. You are not packing for Instagram photos, you are packing for you. That's the challenge. If you pack lighter, you are more sustainable, can relax more about your "stuff", and pay less in baggage fees. You are lighter in every way. Find out more about this in my 5 Steps to Solo Travel series, available on my website and on Amazon.com. Let me know if you have any questions we can use for future podcasts. This is number 368, so keep listening for more. Today's destination: Idaho Travel Here is a Summer and Fall Travel Guide When I think of Idaho, I used to think first of potatoes, but the real story is much bigger. Idaho is a wonderful destination for a summer or fall vacation, with mountain scenery, lakes, charming towns, outdoor recreation, and easy access to some of the most beautiful parts of the American West. I've been fortunate to visit Idaho on several different trips, and each one showed me a different side of the state. Idaho is a Step 2 travel destination. It's far for most people, but it's still quite familiar for a solo traveler. One of my most memorable visits was a week-long ski trip to Sun Valley. Although Sun Valley is famous as a winter destination, it also makes a terrific summer and fall getaway. The mountain scenery is stunning, the town has an upscale but relaxed atmosphere, and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and simply enjoying the fresh air. Sun Valley has long attracted celebrities, and during my visit, I had a truly special experience: I met Clint Eastwood there. He was also skiing, and I, with my friends, met him in a restaurant. He joined our group, and we danced with him. He was very kind and gracious to us, and that made the trip even more unforgettable. It's not every day that a vacation gives you both beautiful mountain memories and a Hollywood story to tell. https://www.sunvalley.com/ If you visit Sun Valley in summer, you can enjoy long sunny days, wildflowers, scenic chairlift rides, golf, horseback riding, and peaceful walks through town. In the fall, the changing leaves bring beautiful color to the valley, and the cooler temperatures make it especially pleasant for outdoor activities. Ketchum and nearby Hailey also offer restaurants, galleries, and a welcoming small-town feel that make the area attractive even beyond the natural scenery. On another trip, I passed through Idaho Falls on the way to and from Yellowstone National Park. That's one of the great advantages of Idaho: it works beautifully as either a destination of its own or as part of a larger western road trip. Eastern Idaho offers dramatic landscapes, rivers, and open spaces that help set the mood for a national park adventure. If you are planning a Yellowstone trip, consider spending extra time in Idaho rather than rushing through. You'll find scenic byways, small towns, and a quieter pace that can be a nice contrast to the crowds often found in the national parks. I also spent time in Boise, which gave me yet another perspective on Idaho. Boise is the state capital, but it feels approachable, green, and easy to enjoy. For travelers looking for a mix of city attractions and outdoor access, Boise is an excellent choice. You can stroll through downtown, enjoy local restaurants and coffee shops, visit parks along the Boise River, and explore the city's cultural side with museums, public art, and neighborhood markets. In summer, Boise is lively and active, while in fall, the cooler weather makes sightseeing very comfortable. It's a city that feels friendly and manageable, which can be a real plus for vacationers who want a relaxed urban stop. https://coeurdalene.org/ Another Idaho trip took me north to Coeur d'Alene, where I spent a weekend on the lake. And I can tell you, it was absolutely beautiful. Coeur d'Alene is one of those places that instantly makes you slow down and appreciate the scenery. The lake is the star of the show, with sparkling water, forested hills, and plenty of opportunities for boating, walking, or simply sitting and taking in the view. For a summer vacation, Coeur d'Alene is ideal for lake activities, waterfront dining, and enjoying the long daylight hours. In the fall, the scenery becomes even more colorful, with crisp air and changing leaves reflected in the water. It's peaceful and perfect for a weekend escape, especially for solo travelers. You will meet great people here. So what makes Idaho such a strong choice for summer and fall travel? It's the combination of variety and space. You can enjoy mountain resorts like Sun Valley, urban discoveries in Boise, scenic stopovers on the route to Yellowstone, and lakeside relaxation in Coeur d'Alene. Idaho gives you room to breathe, room to explore, and room to create your own kind of vacation. My advice is simple: don't overlook Idaho. Whether you want outdoor adventure, scenic drives, a relaxing lake weekend, or a charming mountain town, Idaho delivers more than many people expect. And sometimes, if you're lucky, it even delivers a surprise celebrity encounter. Today's Mistake- Losing my skis in Idaho They were loaded onto the truck, taking me back to the airport after a week of skiing. We had such a great time. But when I arrived at the airport, my skis were missing. Be more careful about loading your skis in a large vehicle. Keep a closer eye on them on a truck. Always have insurance in case you lose your skis or other luggage. Today's Travel Advice- Follow the 5 steps to Solo Travel, and be prepared for anything. You're doing the work. You're following the playbook from the videos, the socials, the group platforms. And something still isn't clicking. Here's what nobody's telling you: a lot of that advice was accurate 5 or 10 years ago. Some of it still is. Some of it isn't. And nobody's sorting it out for you. In the kickoff to a four-part Coach's Corner series, Brian and Robin Joy lay out the four shifts Amazon quietly built into the platform while the older content kept aging in place. None of them are hacks. All of them are visible to anyone paying attention. Why the rank-drop chart you learned to read is now the wrong line to watch, and which line is right How Amazon's 150 fulfillment centers create regional pricing variation Keepa can't show you What the "Panic Window" is, why your repricer can't see it, and how it ends in the Prime Window Why the sweet spot most sellers walked past sits at 50 to 200 units a month, not the high-velocity targets the old content chased Each of the four shifts gets its own deep-dive episode in the coming weeks. This one is the map. Plus, the Plato's Allegory of the Cave moment that frames the whole shift, and a Wayne Dyer line that lands it. It's not the work. It's the playbook. Let's go test more ASINs. In this episode of Founder Talk, Alex Sheridan sits down with Adam Hodge, founder of Farr and Swit, to unpack how a microbrand watch company grew in a saturated market by competing on identity, nostalgia, and meaning instead of pure utility.Key Takeaways:00:00:00 Introduction00:06:30 Why do people still buy watches when phones and smartwatches already tell time?Answer: Adam argues the best watches are not about utility alone; they signal identity, create conversation, and become “magnets for memory.”00:09:15 Can a premium brand launch cheaper products without damaging its positioning?Answer: Adam says it can work when the lower-priced line has a clear role, distinct design language, and still reinforces the broader brand mission.00:17:55 What makes an affordable product feel differentiated instead of generic?Answer: Design originality, emotional resonance, and a strong story can make even a low-cost product feel memorable rather than commoditized.00:24:30 How can founders use scarcity without faking demand?Answer: Limited runs, waitlists, and real stock constraints can validate interest, increase urgency, and reveal whether the market truly wants the offer.00:31:25 What do founders misunderstand about brand?Answer: Many treat brand like decoration instead of building it around a real differentiator, customer outcome, and consistent experience.00:41:45 Does brand story actually matter for conversion?Answer: Yes, when the story connects to the customer's mission, it gives the brand a point of view and makes the buyer feel part of something bigger.00:49:30 How does a founder build a business that runs without becoming the bottleneck?Answer: Adam shares that better inventory systems, support operators, and stronger financial oversight are the next steps to free him up for design, sales, and brand building.Watch the full episode and subscribe for more authentic founder interviews, and go watch Joe Barron's guesting on the Founder Talk here! https://youtu.be/ebMGuJaesns
Scaling usually does not break because of the strategy first. It breaks because the people side of the business cannot support the next stage of growth. In this episode of Founder Talk, Alex Sheridan sits down with Lindsay Dagiantis, founder of blueprintHR, to unpack what founders miss when they wait too long to build real people systems. Lindsay is a Chicago-based fractional HR leader who helps growing companies build the structure, clarity, and senior-level perspective needed to scale, and this is a practical conversation for founders and operators trying to grow without creating chaos. Alex and Lindsay get into the work behind scaling a business: leading with more honesty, building trust, auditing meetings, knowing when HR becomes a real business need, and handling performance issues before they become expensive problems. Key Takeaways:00:00:00 Introduction00:01:10 Why should founders stop using autopilot greetings with the team?Answer: Lindsay explains that leaders build trust when they acknowledge reality instead of pretending everything is normal.00:09:29 How can founders get better at small talk that actually builds relationships?Answer: Better conversations start with curiosity, context, and listening, not scripted check-ins.00:15:00 Should founders rethink early Monday morning meetings?Answer: Yes; leaders should question recurring meetings, audit calendars, and stop creating stress for the sake of routine.00:23:00 What should HR actually do in a growing company?Answer: HR should connect people, operations, compliance, and business goals across the full employee journey.00:27:39 When does a 15 to 25-person company need real HR systems?Answer: Usually before the founder thinks it does, especially once hiring, promotions, and compliance start creating friction.00:37:33 How should founders handle an underperforming employee before jumping to a PIP?Answer: Start with a direct human conversation, ask what is going on, and look for the real issue first.00:53:35 What is one of the highest-ROI things a leader can do for retention and performance?Answer: Give specific recognition early and often, because thoughtful feedback from leadership carries real weight.Watch the full episode for a grounded conversation on scaling a business, people systems, and the management decisions that shape culture long before they show up on a dashboard. Why do so many sellers stay stuck even after watching courses, reading books, and buying tools? In this Coach's Corner episode, Brian and Robin share a powerful story about the Wright Brothers and Samuel Langley. One had funding, prestige, and a perfect plan. The other simply kept testing. Only one of them flew. That story opens a conversation about a common trap Amazon sellers fall into. Over-planning. Endless research. Waiting for the perfect moment to start. Brian and Robin break down a simple three-question filter that helps you cut through the noise and focus on the next right move in your business. You'll learn: • Why planning too far ahead keeps sellers stuck • How to tell the difference between real progress and "feeling busy" • The simple Now vs. Later filter that keeps you focused • Why boring systems usually mean your business is working • The one action challenge you should complete this week If you feel overwhelmed by tools, courses, or endless advice, this episode will help you reset and focus on what actually builds a business. Because the antidote to confusion isn't more information. It's action. Three paradoxes feature in this episode:Paradox 1: You must disclose a bankruptcy stay to the Court of Appeal. What about a bankruptcy that does not create a stay?Answer: Yes, the disclose-bk-stay rule also means disclose a bk non-stay.Paradox 2: Deadbeat dad owes $500k. He settles and agrees to pay $250k. How much does he owe?Answer: Still $500k.Paradox 3: District court 1 rules AI work product is protected because, among other things, no court has ruled otherwise.District court 2 then rules otherwise.Key points:Local rules mean what they say: The First District's Local Rule 21 requires "prompt" notice of any bankruptcy that could cause a stay—not just bankruptcies you've confirmed do trigger one. Counsel must explain whether the stay applies, not decide unilaterally that it doesn't and stay silent. No stay for debtor-initiated lawsuits: The automatic bankruptcy stay under 11 U.S.C. § 362(a)(1) does not apply to actions brought by the debtor itself. Debtors need to marshal assets through litigation; they don't need protection from their own lawsuits.Counsel pled ignorance of Local Rule 21 and reliance on "faulty advice" from bankruptcy counsel—neither excuse worked.Courts view violations of notice requirements as a waste of limited judicial time, particularly when discovery occurs days before oral argument.Even without sanctions, the published admonishment serves as a lasting professional rebuke. The broader ethical duty: appellate lawyers must notify courts of any occurrence that could cause the court to lose or question its jurisdiction.
What does it actually mean to use AI and still feel like yourself? In this episode, Jill breaks down her personal approach to AI — not the flashy, let-it-do-everything version, but a quieter, more honest one. If you've ever felt uneasy about AI but couldn't quite explain why, this one's for you.Top Topics Covered:1. Why AI Makes So Many of Us Uncomfortable It's usually not about being afraid of technology. Most people are really worried about three things: taking jobs from others, getting fed fake information, or pretending to be someone they're not. Naming that discomfort is the first step.2. The "Jill Method" of Using AI Three simple rules for using AI without losing yourself: use it as a mirror, not a mask. Let it reflect your thinking back to you — not replace it. The moment it starts covering for you instead of clarifying you, that's the line.3. AI Isn't New — We Just Didn't Call It That Remember when Amazon started suggesting books you might like? That was AI. It's been woven into our lives for a long time. What's changed is how smart and conversational it's become — not what it fundamentally is.4. The Job Question Nobody Wants to Answer Yes, AI will change some jobs. The internet did too. But the internet also created millions of jobs no one could have imagined in 1990. History gives us reason to be cautious — and reason not to panic.5. Using AI to Think Better, Not Less The best use of AI isn't outsourcing your ideas — it's sharpening them. Use it to find holes in your thinking, practice hard conversations, organize your thoughts, or understand something confusing. It's the assistant you could never afford to hire.Takeaway: This episode isn't anti-AI or blindly pro-AI. It's about finding your own honest middle ground. Tools don't steal your authorship — abdicating your thinking does. When AI helps you become a clearer, stronger version of yourself, that's exactly what it's for. And when it starts to feel like a mask? That's when Jill puts it down.Jill's Linkshttp://jillfromthenorthwoods.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@startwithsmallstepshttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/startwithsmallstepshttps://twitter.com/schmernEmail the podcast at jill@startwithsmallsteps.comBy choosing to watch this video or listen to this podcast, you acknowledge that you are doing so of your own free will. YES, I AM FORGIVEN... 1. The Debt is Canceled (Colossians 2:13–14) 2. The Wealth is Credited (Romans 4:4–5) 3. The Memory is Forgotten (Hebrews 8:12) New City Catechism Question 25: Does Christ's death mean all our sins can be forgiven? Answer: Yes, because Christ's death on the cross fully paid the penalty for our sin, God graciously imputes Christ's righteousness to us as if it were our own and will remember our sins no more (WCF 8.4–5, 11.1, 11.3, 15.3; WSC Q.25, 33; WLC Q.38, 44, 70, 71, 77).
In this episode, Anderson attorneys Amanda Wynalda, Esq., and Eliot Thomas, Esq., tackle listener questions on reducing capital gains taxes and advanced tax strategies for real estate investors and business owners. They explore the intricacies of cost segregation studies and bonus depreciation versus Section 179, including timing issues for renovations. Amanda and Eliot discuss strategies for minimizing capital gains after decades of depreciation, converting ordinary income to capital gains in development deals, and the tax implications of oil and gas working interest investments. The duo also covers deductible expenses for corporate retreats, entity structuring for piano tuning and bookkeeping businesses, and sophisticated trading partnerships using C corporations. Finally, they take a deep dive into Solo 401(k) contribution limits, explaining the differences between employee contributions, employer matches, and the mega backdoor Roth strategy for maximizing retirement savings. Tune in for expert advice on these and more! Submit your tax question to taxtuesday@andersonadvisors.com Highlights/Topics: "I purchased a rental and did a cost seg in 2024. I renovated it in 2025. Can I use a cost segregation and/or Section 179 to depreciate the new renovation assets in 2025?" Answer: Yes, bonus depreciation works; 179 has limitations. [21:16] “How can I reduce capital gains on the sale of a rental property after nearly 27 and a half years? The accelerated depreciation reduced the basis to zero." Answer: 1031 exchange, installment sale, or opportunity zones. "How can I get capital gains on my K-1 instead of ordinary income on my investment into a real estate developer corporation?" Answer: Development corporations typically generate ordinary income, not capital. "What expenses for an off-site retreat for an LLC member and officers meeting are deductible? For example, travel, lodging, meals, activities." Answer: Travel, lodging, 50% meals if genuinely business-related. "If I invest in an oil and gas working interest and I have a first year larger intangible drilling cost loss than is needed for a given tax year based on adjusted gross income, can the excess be carried forward to a future tax year as a net operating loss? Would the NOL have alternative minimum tax implications as well?" Answer: Yes, NOL carries forward; minimal AMT concerns today. "How do I set up a holding company in California? I want the holding company to own my two companies. One's a piano tuning business and then a bookkeeping business. I have an average income of $125,000 per year combined: $45K for piano, $80K for bookkeeping." Answer: Wyoming LLC holding company owns two California entities. "I want more information on how I can structure my LLC more efficiently for day trading. What can I do to minimize my taxes for the new year? How can I lower my capital gains tax from day trading?" Answer: Trading partnership with C corporation for deductions. "Please take a deep dive into Solo 401(k) contributions. What are the individual contribution limits, employer match limits, and especially the voluntary after tax contribution limits. Which components need to be earned income and how does this change if contributing to a Roth 401(k)?" Answer: $72K total; $24.5K employee; mega backdoor uses after-tax. In this episode, Brian and Robin Joy unpack why sourcing is no longer the hard part of building an Amazon business. Matching ASINs has become easy, but knowing what will actually work only shows up once products are tested in the live marketplace. They explain why Keepa tells only part of the story, how the buy box behaves differently across locations and timing, and why sellers often panic and lower prices when nothing is truly broken. They also zoom out to the bigger picture. ASINs are not the asset, systems are. The first twelve weeks are meant to feel messy, even when progress is happening. And the sellers who last are the ones who build repeatable testing and decision processes instead of chasing certainty or perfect data. This is why 99% of business owners and entrepreneurs are doing the Augusta Rule Wrong. The Augusta rule is one of the most popular tax strategies on the internet with endless amounts of financial gurus and entrepreneurs teaching about it. But so much of what is being shared is wrong and dangerous. In this 60 minute masterclass, Nethaniel Ealy, an Augusta Rule Expert who has been helping people do this properly for 8 years, breaks down the dos and don'ts of this strategy, and gives the industry insights into how to maximize the most money out of this powerful tax deduction. 00:00 Understanding the Augusta Rule02:52 Challenges in Implementing the Augusta Rule05:56 Key Components of the Augusta Rule09:09 Documentation and Compliance Essentials12:06 Historical Context of the Augusta Rule14:56 Practical Steps for Business Owners18:05 Common Mistakes and Misconceptions21:00 Best Practices for Meetings and Documentation24:09 Final Thoughts and Encouragement33:20 Understanding the Augusta Rule and Its Implications39:55 Real-Life Applications and Case Studies45:28 Optimizing the Augusta Rule for Maximum Benefit51:40 Navigating Complexities of the Augusta Rule57:31 The Future of Tax Strategies and Business GrowthLearn More About The Augusta Rule Team: https://theaugustarule.com/Join the Waitlist for the Tax and Assets Community: https://taxandassets.comWant Us to Review Your Current Tax Strategy Before the End of the Year? Each person can establish the property as their own “dwelling unit” for the required days. But doing this can likely be an audit magnet.Q2 (Reverse Augusta with a family member's home)Question: If a family member owns a home, can a business owner use that home for a business purpose and structure it so they receive the rental income instead of the family member, essentially a “reverse Augusta”?Answer: Yes, a reverse Augusta structure is possible, but it must be for a legitimate, defensible business purpose. Proper documentation is essential.Want a Life Insurance Policy? Go Here: https://bttr.ly/bw-yt-aa-clarity Want FREE Whole Life Insurance Resources & Education? Question: does an affair cause marital problems or do marital problems cause affairs? Answer: YES. Longer answer: for the majority of affairs, weak points in the marriage create a vulnerability to infidelity. There is another necessary element... but problems do cause vulnerability. But when infidelity is committed, the problem deepens. Affairs end up creating both a personal and a marital crisis... often for both spouses. And then, there is the aftermath... what comes AFTER the affair is ended. In this episode of the podcast, I tackle two submitted questions: "What causes an affair? Why did it happen in OUR marriage?" and "What is the typical aftermath in an affair for the spouse who broke it off?" In these two cases, the questions are not academic. They are wound up in the marital crisis that is unwinding... or stuck... and infidelity is a major issue. If you are in the midst of a marital crisis, your relationship could be vulnerable... and if your spouse (or you) has committed infidelity, this can help you understand what might happen when the affair is ended. Phlogiston? Elan Vital? Caloric? Mention of any of these at a party, and Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be sure to take you out back and kick you in your essences. So why do "essences" have no place in science? In this episode we explore that question (and dive into some of the history behind this debate) by reading Chapter 6 of Conjectures and Refutations: A Note On Berkeley As Precursor Of Mach And Einstein. In one corner, we have the estimable Sir Isaac Newton and Roger Coates (and of course Andre the Giant, upon whose shoulders they are standing), and in the other, we have Bishop Berkeley and Ernst Mach, looking to throw down at the speed of sound. Berkeley can't get Newton and his forces out of his head (literally), and boy oh boy is the fight ever on. We discuss How should teachers address the "students using ChatGPT to write their essay" problem? Can we learn a bit from Stalin here? Is Ben basically Gandhi? (Answer: Yes of course) How can one be both an idealist and an empiricist? WTF is a 'force'??? Instrumentalism and Essentialism The history of the debate between Berkeley and Newton The lifelong feud between Ernst Mach and Ludwig Boltzman What's the difference between essences and unobservables? Is Mach a filthy plagiarist? Who won the essentialism vs instrumentalism debate? (Answer: Neither side won. Popper won.) References Go amuse yourselves and watch some videos of Newton's spinning bucket thought experiment (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz3mOlUOGoY&t=1093s&ab_channel=Dialect). Boltzmanns Atom: The Great Debate That Launched A Revolution In Physics (https://www.amazon.ca/Boltzmanns-Atom-Launched-Revolution-Physics/dp/1501142445) Quotes Everybody who reads this list of twenty-one theses must be struck by their modernity. They are surprisingly similar, especially in the criticism of Newton, to the philosophy of physics which Ernst Mach taught for many years in the conviction that it was new and revolutionary; in which he was followed by, for example, Joseph Petzold; and which had an immense influence on modern physics, especially on the Theory of Relativity. Popper, C&R Chapter 6 (20) A general practical result—which I propose to call ‘Berkeley's razor'—of this analysis of physics allows us a-priori to eliminate from physical science all essentialist explanations. If they have a mathematical and a predictive content they may be admitted qua mathematical hypotheses (while their essentialist interpretation is eliminated). If not, they may be ruled out altogether. This razor is sharper than Ockham's: all entities are ruled out except those which are perceived. Popper, C&R Chapter 6 No attempt was made to show how or why the forces acted, but gravitation being taken as due to a mere "force", speculators thought themselves at liberty to imagine any number of forces, attractive or repulsive, or alternating, varying as the distance,[4] or the square, cube, or higher power of the distance, etc. At last, Ruđer Bošković[5] got rid of atoms altogether, by supposing them to be the mere centre of forces exerted by a position or point only, where nothing existed but the power of exerting a force.[6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imponderable_fluid Mach's antipathy to theorizing and to the invocation of "metaphysical" and therefore unprovable notions led him to some extreme opinions. In The Conservation of Energy he remarks: "We say now that water consists of hydrogen and oxygen, but this hydrogen and oxygen are merely thoughts or names which, at the sight of water, we keep ready to describe phenomena which are not present but which will appear again whenever, as we say, we decompose water. David Lindley, Boltzmann's Atom In Mach's world, there was to be no such thing as "explaining" in the way scientists had always understood it. Mach even went so far as to argue that the traditional notion of cause and effect-that kicking a rock makes it move, that heating a gas makes it expand —was presumptuous and therefore to be denied scientific status. David Lindley, Boltzmann's Atom But it was not always so. Well into the latter half of the 19th century, most scientists saw their essential task as the measurement and codification of phenomena they could investigate directly: the passage of sound waves through air, the expansion of gas when heated, the conversion of heat to motive power in a steam engine. A scientific law was a quantitative relationship between one observable phenomenon and another. David Lindley, Boltzmann's Atom Errata Vaden incorrectly said this that this essay was referenced in Mach's wikipedia page. Wrong! Fool! It was Berkeley's wiki page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Berkeley) # Socials Follow us on Twitter at @IncrementsPod, @BennyChugg, @VadenMasrani Come join our discord server! Let's see if Hot Springs Village is your retirement sweet spot. Take this quick 10-question quiz. Answer YES, NO, or MAYBE. Do you enjoy a quiet, slower-paced lifestyle surrounded by nature? Would you love being near lakes, hiking trails, and golf courses? Are you comfortable living outside a major metro area, knowing that the closest big airport and hospitals are 45–60 minutes away? Are low crime and a strong sense of community important to you? Do you enjoy small-town friendliness — waving to neighbors, chatting at the dog park, joining clubs or volunteer groups? Do you value a low cost of living and want to stretch your retirement income? Are you okay with limited nightlife, shopping, and dining, but plenty of nature, recreation, and community events? Are you looking to downsize or simplify your lifestyle? Does the idea of a gated, POA-managed community sound appealing, or at least acceptable to you? Can you imagine yourself living in a rural, forested environment with four seasons — including humid summers and mild winters? How did you score? If you answered yes to 7 or more, HSV could be an excellent fit. If you answered 4–6 yes, it's worth visiting and exploring more. Fewer than 4? HSV might feel too quiet or remote for your lifestyle. What do you do next if you think Hot Springs Village might be ideal for your retirement? Visit. If possible, spend a week or two here to experience living like a local. In the latest State of the Thunder, we're answering your questions about the upcoming Thunderbird Pro offerings and introducing our new head of Community Programs. Michael Ellis is here to help us better serve our community, and he's placed a call for ideas on Mozilla Connect for ideas to improve the Thunderbird community: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/have-ideas-to-improve-the-thunderbird-community/m-p/100264#M38972 Question 1: With these new services, will there be less effort spent on desktop and mobile? Answer: No! Lately we've added several new developers to our desktop and mobile teams. TB Pro is a collecting of projects (not products) that mean to coexist besides our core products and fill in missing pieces for users. Question 2: Why is Appointment being developed as a stand-alone? Answer: As a stand-alone, users can adapt it for their individual use, and core users don't have to use it if they don't want to. Also, this gives us time to help the underlying protocols add support for what Appointment needs to run natively. Question 3: Can you deploy Appointment on your own infrastructure? Answer: Yes! We know many of our users like to self-host and so we wanted this option. But offering to manage it on our own infrastructure is not only good for people who don't want to manage it themselves, but it's an opportunity to not only keep Thunderbird financially sustainable but to raise the resources to make it truly competitive. Question 4: Are there plans to make Send part of the core Thunderbird app? Answer: No, not for the foreseeable future. We'd like to have it as an opt-in system add-on. We still have Filelink, which has allowed us to build Send. Developing Send can possibly allow us to expand on Filelink's abilities! Question 5: In Send, is there a file size limit for each file? Answer: As far as we know, no. You'll have a limit of how much storage you'll have, which right now we're imagining will be 500GB for a normal subscription. Subscription costs will both pay for the storage itself and its management. As Send is open source, we'll have free options for folks who want to self host with their own storage. Question 6: Will I be able to use Thundermail with another client? Answer: Of course! As you can imagine, we're big fans of open standards! Thundermail will also support JMAP. Question 7: Any plans for future Google-like products connected to Thundermail? Answer: This is largely up to the community! We have no shortage of ideas how we could expand TB Pro into those spaces, but this depends on our success. (So be sure to sign up for the mailing list and use the service if you us to move closer to a fully featured suite.) For some of those services, stakes are very high, so before moving into them we'd want to be certain we could do them well. Question 8: Do we have a public roadmap for these projects? Answer: We've started a process to make a public roadmap, along the lines of our mobile roadmap which shows current and planned sprints. This will be done in collaboration with the Thunderbird Council and will help our community get involved with these projects. Is the Bible applicable in today's modern society — and can its content be trusted to help believers solve every question that pops up, from which job to take to where to live to what to cook for dinner? Answer: Yes. Many modern Americans believe in God; that is to say, believe God exists. But far too many believers don't think God works in their own personal lives. They think God is too busy, too distant, too unconcerned to deal with the day-to-day. But that's completely untrue. Mark Gerson, author of "God Was Right," has much to say about the matter.
Knowing the best time to retire is tough to figure out because of all the details involved, but if you can answer 'YES' to these 5 questions, it might be time to start thinking about it!

What does a bee sting have to do with burnout, boundaries, and saying “yes” or “no”? Everything. In this episode, Carole Jean Whittington shares a personal story from the past week—an unexpected MCAS reaction to a bee sting—and how it became a deep practice in rest, self-check-ins, and honoring her own “yes, no, or maybe” in real time. She also brings in reflections from her Accelerate Circle students in The UnVeiling Method, where they explored the powerful questions that help us recognize what we're agreeing to—both with others and ourselves.Whether you're navigating people-pleasing, energetic overwhelm, or the fuzzy in-between of not knowing what your body or nervous system is saying… this episode offers real insight, warm encouragement, and a reminder that checking in with yourself is a form of radical care.✨ Key Questions We Explored:What does your body say when it wants to say “no”?Is this really a “yes,” or just a habit? How can you begin practicing a pause, even when it's uncomfortable? This episode is an invitation to move from auto-pilot into authentic alignment—one conscious “yes,” “no,” or “maybe” at a time.

INTRODUCTIONThe Tightrope Walker and the WheelbarrowIn the 19th century, a famous tightrope walker named Charles Blondin became famous for walking across Niagara Falls on a rope. Niagara Falls has three main waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls. The entire width of Niagara Falls (including all three sections) is about 3,950 feet (1,204 meters), or roughly ¾ of a mile wide. It's height ranges from 90 to 181 feet high (9 to 18 stories)He performed the stunt multiple times, each time adding a new challenge—walking blindfolded, on stilts, even carrying a stove and cooking an omelet in the middle of the rope. One day, a huge crowd gathered to watch as he planned to push a wheelbarrow across the rope. Before starting, he asked the crowd, “Do you believe I can push this wheelbarrow across the falls?”The crowd cheered, “Yes! We believe!”Then Blondin pointed to a man in the front and asked, “Do you trust me enough to get in the wheelbarrow?”The man froze. Believing from the sidelines was easy. But trusting enough to get in? That was a different question. Can I trust Jesus with everything? It's one thing to say we believe Jesus can provide, protect, and lead us. But do we trust Him enough to truly depend on Him with everything? To put our whole lives in His hands? That's the question in John 6:1-21—the disciples and the crowd see Jesus' miracles, but will they truly trust Him? Will we?“Can I Trust Jesus With Everything?”Bottom line: I can trust God with everything, even when in need, because he provides, he cares, and he is with us.I. Answer: Yes, You Can Trust Jesus With Everything.Jesus provides abundantly (He cares) (John 6:1-15): Jesus doesn't just meet immediate needs—He provides more than enough.Jesus steps into our storms (He is with us) (John 6:16-21): He walks on the water to His disciples, showing He has control over the chaos we face.Jesus offers eternal life (He is able) (John 6:35): He's not just here to meet temporary needs; He's the Bread of Life, offering lasting satisfaction.II. Why Can I Trust Jesus? (He Cares & Provides because He is Able)He is the Provider (He cares)"The problem, of course, was how to meet the needs of such a vast crowd of people. Four solutions were proposed.First, the disciples suggested that Jesus send the people away..." (No, hungry people faint. Plus almost night.)Second, buy food. That's a lot of money. Remote place. Third, get people to share their food. Way too little.Fourth, trust the Lord to provide. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 309). Victor Books. In the feeding of the 5,000, Jesus shows He has the power to meet physical needs abundantly, even when resources seem scarce. Why trust Him? He is the One who provides for our needs, and He does so with more than enough. He is Present in Our Struggles (He is with us)Jesus meets His disciples in the middle of their storm, walking on water to reassure them. Why trust Him? He sees us, is present with us in our difficulties, and has the power to bring peace. He is the Source of Eternal Life (He is able)Jesus offers Himself as the Bread of Life, the one who satisfies our deepest spiritual hunger. Why trust Him? His provision goes beyond the temporary—He offers us eternal life.III. How Do I Trust Jesus?Offer What You Have (John 6:9) (Hint: Something & Everything)Like the boy with the loaves and fish, bring what little you have to Jesus and trust Him to multiply it for His purposes."The practical lesson is clear: whenever there is a need, give all that you have to Jesus and let Him do the rest. Begin with what you have, but be sure you give it all to Him." Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 309). Victor Books. What You Give to God, He MultipliesHattie May Wiatt, a six-year-old girl, lived near Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia, USA. The Sunday school was very crowded. Russell H. Conwell, the minister, told her that one day they would have buildings big enough to allow everyone to attend. She said, ‘I hope you will. It is so crowded I am afraid to go there alone.' He replied, ‘When we get the money we will construct one large enough to get all the children in.' Two years later, in 1886, Hattie May died. After the funeral Hattie's mother gave the minister a little bag they had found under their daughter's pillow containing 57 cents in change that she had saved up. Alongside it was a note in her handwriting: ‘To help build bigger so that more children can go to Sunday school.' The minister changed all the money into pennies and offered each one for sale. He received $250 – and 54 of the cents were given back. The $250 was itself changed into pennies and sold by the newly formed ‘Wiatt Mite Society'. In this way, her 57 cents *kept on multiplying*. Twenty-six years later, in a talk entitled, ‘The history of the 57 cents', the minister explained the results of her 57-cent donation: a church with a membership of over 5,600 people, a hospital where tens of thousands of people had been treated, 80,000 young people going through university, 2,000 people going out to preach the gospel – all this happened ‘because Hattie May Wiatt invested her 57 cents'. The theme of multiplication runs throughout the Bible. What cannot be achieved by addition, God does by multiplication. You reap what you sow, only many times more. What you give to the Lord, he multiplies. How to trust Him? Give Jesus what you have, even if it seems small, and trust He can do more with it than you can imagine. If the only thing you have to offer is a broken heart, you offer a broken heart. So in a time of grief, the recognition that this is material for sacrifice has been a very great strength for me. Realizing that nothing I have, nothing I am will be refused on the part of Christ, I simply give it to him as the little boy gave Jesus his five loaves and two fishes — with the same feeling of the disciples when they said, "What is the good of that for such a crowd?"Naturally in almost anything I offer to Christ, my reaction would be, "What is the good of that?" The point is, the use he makes of it is none of my business; it is his business, it is his blessing. So this grief, this loss, this suffering, this pain — whatever it is, which at the moment is God's means of testing my faith and bringing me to the recognition of who he is —that is the thing I can offer.Do you have nothing to give? Then give that. Your nothing plus God is everything. We need to believe that God is big enough, that he wants to help us. Then we must give our problem to him. May we set aside our pride and give it all to him."Recognize His Presence in the Storm (John 6:19-20) (He is with you; Immanuel, God with us)Did Jesus know that a storm was coming? Of course. Then why did He deliberately send His friends into danger? Quite the opposite is true: He was rescuing them from greater danger, the danger of being swept along by a fanatical crowd. But there was another reason for that storm: the Lord has to balance our lives; otherwise we will become proud and then fall. The disciples had experienced great joy in being part of a thrilling miracle. Now they had to face a storm and learn to trust the Lord more. The feeding of the 5,000 was the lesson, but the storm was the examination after the lesson.Sometimes we are caught in a storm because we have disobeyed the Lord. Jonah is a good example. But sometimes the storm comes because we have obeyed the Lord. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 1, p. 310). Victor Books. When life feels overwhelming, turn to Jesus. When the disciples invite Him into the boat, the storm calms. How to trust Him? In the midst of your struggles, look for Jesus and invite Him into your situation. Trust that He will bring peace. Conclusion:Bottom line: I can trust God with everything, even when in need, because he provides, he cares, and he is with us.Can I trust God with some things?I often use a stool to represent trusting God with everything. This is represented by me sitting on the stool with my full weight believing it will hold me up and not collapse in front of everyone with me on it.I sometimes trust God with travel. *puts car keys on the stool*I sometimes trust God with my health. *puts medicine/pills on the stool*I sometimes trust God with my marriage. *puts wedding ring on the stool*I sometimes trust God with my finances. *puts wallet on the stool*I sometimes trust God with my education. *puts class ring on the stool*But until I sit on the stool, my faith is only temporary and not saving faith because I'm not putting the full weight of my life on the stool. I'm not fully relying on God to carry me through life no matter what I'm going through. Can you trust Jesus with everything? Yes. Jesus is fully trustworthy because He provides abundantly, steps into your struggles, and offers eternal life. To trust Him, offer what you have, recognize His presence in your struggles, and receive His words of life. What about you?Has God warned you?Do you hear his warning? Peter puts it all in perspective in his first sermon:““Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”” Acts 2:36-39 NIVInvitationHow do we respond? (past, present, and future)PrayNOTES"Regard the weak"Psalm 41:1-4 shows us how God blesses those who "regard the weak" by blessing them. God blesses those who do this. David also gives us a one verse prayer asking God to forgive us for not regarding the weak as we should."I am, I am"“In all of these sayings, Jesus prefaced descriptions of His office by a strange combination of Greek words, ego eimi. The word ego in Greek means “I am.” We get the word ego from it. But the word eimi also means “I am.” If you put them together, ego eimi literally means “I am, I am,” as if one were stuttering”“In order to understand what Jesus was doing, we need to look at the Greek translation of the Old Testament, where we see that the ineffable name of God, Yahweh, was translated into the Greek language by this same strange construction, ego eimi, which can be translated “I AM WHO I AM” (Ex. 3:14). Therefore, almost every commentator recognizes that when Jesus said, “I am the door,” “I am the bread of life,” and other “I am” sayings, He was using the divine name for Himself.”“However, when scholars enumerate the “I am” sayings in the Gospel of John, they don't include Jesus' statement here: “It is I; do not be afraid.” I'm not sure why, because it's exactly the same structure, ego eimi. Jesus said to His disciples, “Don't be afraid. It is I AM WHO I AM.”Excerpts From John - An Expositional Commentary, R.C. SproulChrist carries his people“There's an illustration here. I don't want to be maudlin, but this is the way our lives are. This story is not a parable; it is a historical narrative. However, it certainly illustrates what happens when Jesus comes into our lives. Life is a time of pulling against the oars, against resistance, trying to get somewhere. However, we're not getting anywhere and we're about to be engulfed. But as soon as Jesus gets in the boat, we're home free. That's what happens when Christ comes into the lives of His people. He doesn't take away all difficulties and make our lives beds of ease, but He gets us through the darkness. He gets us through the violence. He carries us through the storm.”R.C. Sproul"Gave thanks"It is significant that twice John mentioned the fact that Jesus gave thanks (John 6:11, 23). Matthew, Mark, and Luke all state that Jesus looked up to heaven when He gave thanks. By that act, He reminded the hungry people that God is the source of all good and needful gifts. This is a good lesson for us: instead of complaining about what we do not have, we should give thanks to God for what we do have, and He will make it go fartherWiersbe, W. W. (1996). Introducing Mountain to Molehill: A Mindfulness and Meditation Newsletter Mental Health Melissa Llarena Why Stressed Professionals Quit Meditation (And How Not To) Meditating is a good alternative to that third glass of wine at night – and might even serve as a replacement for psych meds for the most restless, stressed-out marketers, sales professionals, and ad executives dealing with the unpredictability of their virtual lives, workplace, home life, and everything else that gets logged in your head as stressful mountains to climb when in reality you're looking at a molehill you can simply hop over. Q: Why did I write this article encouraging you to return to meditation instead of relying on quicker fixes for stress? A: I know firsthand how psych meds play out. I've been an unwitting observer of a personal longitudinal study as the daughter of a mom who has been on them since 1982. My thinking is simple: if you can avoid them, do. I don't say this as a psychiatrist – I say it as a witness who has watched decades of science experiments performed on my single parent, from my toddler years through today, when the impact of this four-decade-long chemical warfare is irreversible. This deeply personal experience is why I'm committed to my mental health, and why I believe adopting and keeping a meditation practice is a powerful approach to life's realities. A consistent practice will increase your capacity to bear any weight you may be carrying – something we all need, don't you agree? Now, I know it's hard to adopt a practice from scratch, so I decided to focus on those of you who once meditated and might secretly wish to return. Let's start with the top reasons for this kind of "quiet" quitting. Notice the pun? I'll try to keep you chuckling throughout this read. But first, let's look at some serious stats... According to the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, approximately 60% of people who start a meditation practice discontinue within the first year. The primary reasons include: 1. Perceived lack of time 2. Difficulty maintaining consistent practice 3. Feeling they're "not doing it right" 4. Not seeing immediate results Let's explore doable workarounds for these four reasons, considering our modern omnichannel lives. Interestingly, this study aligns perfectly with a recent LinkedIn survey I conducted, asking mid-career professionals what they wanted me to cover. Time emerged as the top concern, so let's start there. Perceived Lack of Time Let's talk about time – or the common excuse of not having enough of it. Let's dispel the idea that you're too busy to drop in and pay attention to your breath for five minutes a day. Where can you steal these five minutes? Let's start with the low-hanging fruit. According to the Harvard Business Review, professionals spend an average of 28% of their workweek managing email. That's about 3.1 hours per day reading, writing, and responding to emails, with an estimated 25% of those being unnecessary or unproductive. Take my librarian email saga, for example. I received a ridiculously long email about a book renewal that could have been summarized in three sentences. Instead, this well-meaning librarian wrote paragraphs explaining a simple process. I thought to myself: she could have meditated in the time it took to write this novel of an email. Seriously, couldn't you shave five minutes from your 3.1 hours of daily email writing for a relaxing breathing session? I have full confidence you can steal some time from email writing to meditate. It can be that simple – or perhaps meditation can become your pre-meeting ritual? My pandemic meditation journey was ritualistic. I needed a tool to reliably catch my breath and return to my three sons as the calmest version of myself; the stakes were staring me in the face. I'd drag my son's bean bag out to my wrap-around balcony – my "lanai" in honor of the Golden Girls – and sit under the sun. The benefits were two-fold: it gave me something to do during lockdowns, and I returned refreshed enough to homeschool three sons. Ultimately, I returned to my teaching post with greater patience, not totally "unsnappable," but feeling more able to relax. Pro Tip: You can always find time when a boss drops a last-minute request. Somehow, you'll complete other assignments, shorten your timeframe, stay up later, or wake up earlier. Imagine treating meditation as vitally as that urgent work assignment. This is just your way into starting a practice – not necessarily how you'll have to make it stick – which brings me to the second reason for quitting. Difficulty Maintaining Consistent Practice Willpower is overrated. There, I said it. If I had unlimited willpower, I wouldn't have half a bottle of wine in my fridge or pair my glass with partially dry Manchego cheese at six p.m. when I nestle in my corner of the sofa before my sons fight me to the death to take over the TV. This is why I endeavor to do as much as possible before 9 am every single day – it's not because I want to challenge myself but because I don't trust myself as the day gets later. There's science to back this up, which is why I apply simple heuristics to maintain a consistent meditation practice. My decision-making process is brutally simple: · Question: Do I plan to eat today? · Answer: Yes. · Action: Then I guess I'll go to the gym, walk 10K steps, and meditate before starting my workday. Don't think you need to do these things before meditating or before 9 am like me. Instead, use my question to spark your own chain of daily habits. Yours can be as simple as: · Question: Do I plan to breathe today? · Answer: Yes. · Action: Then I'll take 5 minutes to pay attention to some of those breaths. This decision tree below is for those of us who've been trained to overthink... just follow the nodes. I've found that thinking is often what gets in our way. Arnold Schwarzenegger shared the same sentiment about his workouts in his Netflix documentary: he said he could think after his workouts. Same goes for meditating. Think later. See Substack. https://open.substack.com/pub/melissallarena/p/why-stressed-professionals-quit-meditation?r=fetqt&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true My meditation practice looks different every day. Sometimes I'll light a candle, drop on my carpeted floor with earbuds, and hum along to a guru telling me: "I am not my body. I am not my mind." Let's call this my "scruffy, get it done" meditation. Other times I've meditated with my eyes open during a commute. I believe in habit stacking – pairing one existing habit with a new one. Not Seeing Immediate Results On Halloween 2023, I self-published my book "Fertile Imagination." My goal was to become an Amazon bestseller. While my three boys were putting on Halloween costumes, I was copy/pasting/pitching/praying. My ranking wasn't moving despite my efforts. I had two choices: toss my laptop out the window and curse Bezos, or maintain unwavering belief in the process. I kept going. When I woke up at 5 am, I was number one in two categories. Sure, I was just a good night's rest away from seeing my goal come true – but writing the book had taken two years, securing early readers required 35 outbound emails a day for months, and Amazon needed 24 hours to update their stats. A LOT went into it behind the scenes. This experience mirrors the practice of meditation. It requires consistent effort, even when you don't see immediate results. You must trust that the benefits will manifest over time, just as I trusted my book would eventually rise in the ranks. It's about cultivating a deep-seated belief in the power of the practice, even when your mind whispers doubts. Feeling They're "Not Doing It Right" The internet paints a picture of meditation that's a bit... idealized. You know the image: serene folks, Lululemon-clad, perched on fancy meditation pillows, humming along to some ethereal YouTube guru. That's not exactly my reality. This morning, I was planning to meditate, but my phone battery died. So, I grabbed my timer and dropped onto the carpet, aiming for those 25 minutes of blissful silence. But let's just say, my meditation practice looked a little different. If I'd meditated any longer, my husband might have gotten out the masking tape to document a crime scene. Let me explain. If you could have seen me, I was definitely not dressed for a yoga retreat – just my usual work attire: brown boots, ripped jeans, and a cashmere sweater. Picture it: a perfectly respectable professional, now sprawled on their living room floor, looking like a crime scene victim. Pause for a second to see how Canva's image-generating AI "Dream Lab" doesn't care about doing things "right." Let's learn from it. The first try is so wacky and wrong. See Substack for images. https://open.substack.com/pub/melissallarena/p/why-stressed-professionals-quit-meditation?r=fetqt&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true The image below is closer to my original description, but it's still not "quite right" – like many AI-generated images. So give yourself some grace and aim for "good enough right now" rather than "perfect." See Substack for images. https://open.substack.com/pub/melissallarena/p/why-stressed-professionals-quit-meditation?r=fetqt&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true Side note: if you had a second to take that pause, then you have time to meditate. ;) No side-eye from me – just pointing this out. Here's the truth: There's no right way to meditate. You can meditate in a closet, on a Trader Joe's line, or in a nursery room. Simply be present. Here's the easiest way to begin your meditation practice: Wear your work clothes. Perfect. Find a comfortable spot: A bed, sofa, or even a random rug. Even better. Set a timer for 10 minutes. Focus on your breath. Your thoughts will arise — that's normal. Gently guide your attention back to your breath. Give yourself a mental high-five when you return to breathing. Commit to finding your own meditation style. Meditation has two-fold benefits when it comes to managing stress. Harvard Health Publishing confirms that meditation activates your body's relaxation response, which helps you navigate stressful situations with a sense of calm. Additionally, a JAMA Internal Medicine meta-analysis found that mindfulness meditation significantly reduces perceived stress. So, whether you have to climb a mountain, you'll feel more capable of doing so. Or perhaps you can quickly shift your perception of a mountain and see it for what it really is: a surmountable molehill. You'll want to adapt or bring back your meditation practice if you wish to see more molehills than mountains and feel resourced if it's a real mountain you must climb up or down to get to the other side. So, are you ready to give it a try? Conclusion Meditation is a practice, not a magical solution to stop thinking altogether. Be patient with yourself, and remember that even a few minutes of mindful presence can make a difference. A brief pause can give you space to reconsider a knee-jerk reaction or simply feel more capable of a tough conversation. I hope this article has provided helpful insights and encouragement. My Story – Melissa Llarena I'm a meditation practitioner and #1 Amazon bestselling author who has spent years peering into the minds of marketers and executives, both as one of them and as their trusted guide. My articles in ForbesWomen have reached over 4 million readers, but what really lights me up is the deep work I do with people who, like me, have spent years shape-shifting to succeed. My own journey through the corporate world – 10 years at powerhouses like Ogilvy (working on IBM) and P&G (yes, even Charmin!) – taught me firsthand about wearing different hats across 14+ business functions. For the past 13 years, I've had the privilege of coaching over 200 marketing and advertising executives worldwide, having raw, honest conversations about what it really costs us to morph ourselves every single day. When I'm hosting the Mom Founder Imagination Hub podcast, I get to dive deep with remarkable leaders like Beth Comstock and GaryVee, exploring how to tap into our most overlooked superpower: imagination. My psychology degree from NYU, Dartmouth MBA, and Transformational Coaching certification gave me the foundation, but it was the pandemic that showed me – and my clients – that we needed something more. In 2021, when ambition felt impossible and imagination seemed out of reach, I realized we were all exhausted from trying to power through. That's when I took a leap – pausing my coaching practice to write a book filled with soul-searching questions, while earning my meditation certification from the Jack Kornfield organization. Now, I blend all these pieces – my corporate insider experience, thousands of honest conversations, and meditation wisdom – into workshops, sessions, and immersions that truly connect. Using imaginative meditation, mindfulness practices that even the most restless executives love, and revealing journaling exercises, I help people find their way back to themselves. Because here's what I know: when we stop losing ourselves every time life or business throws us a curveball, we can finally use our energy for what really matters – creating the impact we're meant to make.
In this episode of The Vet Dental Show, Dr. Brett Beckman, a board-certified veterinary dentist, shares valuable insights into pain management, anesthesia protocols, and best practices in veterinary dentistry. The episode discusses the cautious use of lidocaine in cats, the role of bupivacaine for effective local blocks, and the potential applications of Renia for managing chronic pain in refractory stomatitis cases. Packed with actionable advice, this episode is a must-listen for veterinarians and technicians looking to elevate patient care in their practice. Podcast Details Host: Dr. Brett Beckman, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC, DAAPM Key Highlights Topic 1: Lidocaine Use in Cats Question: Should lidocaine be used with caution in cats? Answer: Yes, lidocaine can potentially cause seizures in cats, especially when used as a continuous rate infusion (CRI). Recommendation: Replace lidocaine with bupivacaine for local nerve blocks to ensure longer-lasting analgesia (6-10 hours). Use lidocaine sparingly and with proper discretion. Topic 2: Lidocaine for Intubation Discussion: Historically, lidocaine was applied to the larynx for intubation in cats. Dr. Beckman and his team now prefer using a blunt cannula for safer intubation without the risks associated with lidocaine. Topic 3: Pain Management for Chronic Cases Case Example: Use of Renia (NK1 antagonist) in refractory stomatitis Mechanism: Blocks Substance P at the postsynaptic membrane to prevent ascending pain signals. Clinical Context: Effective for managing chronic pain when combined with ketamine (NMDA receptor antagonist). Outcome: While Dr. Beckman's team hasn't used it extensively, anecdotal feedback from the veterinary community is positive. Topic 4: Local Blocks with Bupivacaine Best Practice: Use 0.5% bupivacaine for local nerve blocks in cats and small animals. Dosage: 0.2 mL per foramen ensures safety and efficacy. Rationale: Provides prolonged analgesia compared to lidocaine, minimizing the risk of complications. Actionable Takeaways Transition to bupivacaine for local nerve blocks to enhance patient comfort and safety. Consider using Renia for managing chronic pain in severe stomatitis cases. Adopt safer intubation techniques, such as using blunt cannulas, to mitigate risks in feline patients. Leverage evidence-based pain management protocols to improve patient outcomes. Election season is well underway and politics is everywhere. It's one of our busiest time at Bolder Advocacy. On this episode, we bring you three of your questions to answer on the pod... it's another round of Ask Us Anything, Electionpalooza Edition! Lawyers for this episode Tim Mooney Susan Finkle Sourlis Monika Graham Shownotes - Question: Presidential campaigns working with outside groups on door-to-door canvassing for their get-out-the-vote efforts— is this illegal coordination under federal election law? - Answer: - Base coordination rules - Exception to coordination rule: FEC AO 2024-01 states that scripts and canvassing literature are NOT public communications, and therefore consulting with candidates and parties is not illegal coordination. - Both presidential campaigns are doing this, with one reportedly relying on it more than the other. - This practice is likely happening in many federal races (Senate and House). - Important: This is NOT available for 501(c)(3)s or for state/local candidates - Question: Can 501(c)(3) organizations comment on candidates or political parties in the context of an election? - Answer: - Yes, but tread carefully. - 501(c)(3) organizations must remain nonpartisan. - Comments should have an independent, nonpartisan, non-election-related reason. - Focus on the issue, not the candidate (e.g., correcting factual errors without discussing the candidate's attributes). - Before responding, consider: 1. Decide who speaks on behalf of the organization. 2. Script responses to stay on message and avoid crossing any lines. 3. Avoid discussing qualifications or endorsing/opposing candidates. - Example: Instead of “Voters should reject this misinformation,” say “Americans won't stand for misinformation on public health issues.” - Criticizing or praising incumbents is less risky, but avoid implying support or opposition for re-election. - Question: Can nonprofit staff support candidates and express their opinion? - Answer: - Individuals have the right to participate and voice their own opinions when acting in their individual capacity. - 501(c)(3) organizations must remain nonpartisan. This applies to staff, board members, and volunteers when acting on behalf of the organization. - In official organizational events, staff should not engage in partisan activities (e.g., wearing a pro-candidate t-shirt). - In their personal time, employees can: - Participate in partisan election activity at home, online, or at rallies. - Use their own resources (email, social media) and must act outside work hours. - Put up lawn signs but not use them as Zoom backgrounds for organizational calls. - Canvas for candidates on the weekends but not encourage others during the workweek. - Every nonprofit needs a policy outlining the prohibition of using organizational resources for political activities. - Alliance for Justice has an example of such a policy. This simple realization shows how sometimes we hold onto things unnecessarily, just because we haven't made a decision."“是的,实际上我家里有一些来自健康保险局的文件。我需要支付一些欠款,这些文件上有一些可以扫描支付的代码。不过,当我写这些的时候,我突然意识到,我其实可以直接把钱转到他们提供的银行账户上,然后把这些文件丢掉。这个简单的领悟显示出,有时候我们只是因为尚未做决定而不必要地保留了一些东西。”Call to Action:"Now it's your turn! Think about the things you're holding onto because of guilt or obligation. It could be old letters, unused gifts, or documents that you think you need to keep. Take a moment to consider if they are truly necessary or if you can find a way to let go of them. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Please share them on our social media platforms or in the comments below this episode. Let's work together to clear the clutter and make room for what truly matters."行动呼吁:“现在轮到你了!想想那些你因为内疚或责任而保留的物品。它可能是旧信件、用不上的礼物,或者你觉得需要保留的文件。花点时间考虑它们是否真的必要,或者你是否可以找到一种方法放下它们。我很希望听到你的想法和经历。请在我们的社交媒体平台或这集节目的评论区分享。让我们一起清理杂物,为真正重要的事情腾出空间。”Special Offer:"If you're looking for more guidance on how to declutter your space and life, join my online Simplify your Life program. It includes a detailed PDF guide and access to group coaching sessions. Together, we can tackle your clutter and create a more peaceful and fulfilling environment. Visit our website to learn more and sign up."特别优惠:“如果你需要更多关于如何清理空间和生活的指导,欢迎加入我的在线清理杂物课程。课程包括详细的PDF指南和小组辅导会议的机会。我们可以一起解决你的杂物问题,创造一个更加平静和满足的环境。请访问我们的网站了解更多信息并注册。”Outro:"Thank you for joining me today. Remember, clutter is often just a sign of postponed decisions. Let's start making those decisions now. See you tomorrow for Day 5 of our Simplify Your Life challenge!"结尾:“感谢你今天的收听。记住,杂物往往只是推迟的决定的标志。让我们从现在开始做出那些决定吧。明天见,我们的清理杂物挑战第5天再会!”

Florence, Italy Part 1 Welcome to Dr. Mary Travelbest's 5 Steps to Solo Travel Guide The FAQ is: My friend Jean asked about recommendations for the best rental car deals. Today's Destination is Florence, Italy. Part 1 Today's Misstep- Legal troubles: I was caught in Florence without a bus ticket and fined 42.5 euros. Travel Advice: Bring an umbrella for shade FAQ: My friend Jean asked for recommendations for the best rental car deals this year. She says it used to cost more if you picked it up at the airport, but now it's the opposite. She's asking for the best deals, whether AAA, Sam's Club, Expedia, Kayak, Booking, etc. They all seem extra high to her. Answer: Yes, the car rental business is doing well these days. I remember when, during COVID-19, I booked a car in Denver for eight days for $32. No longer is that the case. My best thing is to shop around and keep shopping. Finding your best deal may take a few or even 30 minutes, but it's worth waiting. I have used all the options mentioned here, plus Turo, which is like Airbnb for cars. They all have plusses but check to ensure you have the car you need a few days before you travel. I just checked with my Turo for next weekend in Ohio, and the host says the car was in an accident, so it's unavailable, but Turo did not inform me. So, I contacted Turo, and they helped me re-book a different car. Expect prices to be high in peak times like summer and holidays and destinations like Chicago. Consider cutting the number of days you're renting your car, so only for the days you need it, and use public transportation, Uber/Lyft, or walking on the other days if possible. Answer: Yes, read the story about Catholic Bishop Theophilus (6th century): The Prelate who sold his soul to the Devil; his penance wasn't easy, but he was reconciled with God and forgiven https://www.americaneedsfatima.org/Angels-Demons/theophilus-the-prelate-who-sold-his-soul-to-the-devil.html
Luke 10:25-37 (NIV) // On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,' he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Embracing relationships with our heart and soul includes loving our neighbor. Who Is My Neighbor? Leviticus 19:18 // “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. The Answer: Our neighbor is anyone we encounter regardless of their race, beliefs, or actions. Do I Have To Love Them? Luke 10:27 // He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” The Answer: Yes! We show our love for God by the way we love people. Loving our neighbor is reflective and responsive. How Do I Love My Neighbor? Luke 10:27 // He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” The Answer: We should love our neighbor practically and sacrificially. Ephesians 5:29 (NLT) // No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. Our challenge: See a need, meet a need.

AQUINAS ON THE EUCHARIST QUESTION 73 INTRODUCTION Hey patreons of the Catholic Man Show, Karlo Broussard here. I'd like to welcome you to this course on Aquinas and the Eucharist where we'll be looking at what Aquinas says about the Eucharist in his Summa Theologiae, tertia pars, questions 73-83. I'd like to thank Adam and David for this opportunity to share the course with you, which is a token of their appreciation for your support of the show—a support that I would strongly encourage you to continue in. I think you're going to enjoy going through this course on the Eucharist because Aquinas has some great things to say about it. And, of course, it's always to geek out on this stuff. I hope that you have as much fun as I will have teaching it. Aquinas divides his treatment of the Eucharist into seven major themes or aspects of the Sacrament and treats each with one or several different “Questions,” which are basically further subpoints to make about those major aspects. And each of these Questions are further divided into articles, or what Aquinas calls, “points of inquiry.” Each of the lessons for this course will ordinarily deal with a single question. But there will be times when we have to divide a question into two lessons in order to do justice to it. For example, Question 75 is so packed and dense that we'll need two lessons to do it justice. The methodology that I'll use is simpe: read the text and offer commentary as we go. Some things can be received upon an initial reading. Others, however, not so much. Sometimes there is a need for further commentary. And I'll do my best to provide that for you. Also, my goal is to outline Aquinas's thought in a way that easily digestible, giving summaries of the various arguments with premises and conclusions. I know it helps me to keep track of exactly what Aquinas is saying because it makes explicit what Aquinas often is saying implicitly. Now, before we begin diving into Question 73 in this lesson, it's important that we look at Aquinas's outline of the material that he will be going through on the Eucharist. Aquinas says there are seven major aspects of the Eucharist to consider: The sacrament itself (Question 73) Its matter (Questions 74-77) Its form (Question 78) Its effects (Question 79) The use or receiving of the sacrament (Questions 80-81) The minister (Question 82) The rite of the sacrament (Question 83) In this lesson, we'll start with Question 73, which deals with the sacrament itself. It's divided up into 6 articles, or as Aquinas puts it, “six points of inquiry.” ARTICLE 1: Is the Eucharist a sacrament? Commentary: What is a sacrament? A sense perceptible sign that effects what it signifies. So the question here is: Does the bread effect what it signifies, namely, the body and blood of Jesus? Aquinas's Answer: Yes [An appeal to authority] “On the contrary, It is said in the Collect [*Postcommunion "pro vivis et defunctis"]: "May this Thy Sacrament not make us deserving of punishment." [Aquinas's own reasoning] “I answer that, The Church's sacraments are ordained for helping man in the spiritual life. But the spiritual life is analogous to the corporeal, since corporeal things bear a resemblance to spiritual. Now it is clear that just as generation is required for corporeal life, since thereby man receives life; and growth, whereby man is brought to maturity: so...
