On this episode, I'm exploring the scams, stories and secrets behind fraud. My guest is Dr. Kelly Richmond Pope. It also forces the person reading it to consider their own behaviour because, as Kelly highlights, we are all capable of committing fraud. In our discussion, we explore:how she became interested in fraud and the human factors behind it;why people commit fraud and the fact that we are all capable of fraudwhat drives whistleblowers and how not all whistleblowers have the same motivation;the impact on victims of fraud;how story-telling can help to reduce fraud and make people more aware of it;the importance of catching small incidents of fraud to prevent larger ones;how technology enables — and helps prevent — fraud;whether fraud is always a bad thingand so much more...To find out more about Kelly and 'Fool Me Once' visit https://www.kellyrichmondpope.com/To read sample chapters of my new book 'Humanizing Rules - Bringing Behavioural Science to Ethics & Compliance' - www.humanizingrules.comIf you enjoyed this episode, do also listen to the episodes featuring Kelly Paxton, who specialises in Pink Collar Crime (PCC), a form of fraud:Kelly's first appearance on the show in 2020 talking about PCC: https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/kelly-paxton-on-pink-collar-1/Kelly's second appearance in 2021 talking about how COVID has impacted PCC: https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/kelly-paxton-on-pink-collar/

This session of Accounts Payable Technology Week focuses on Fraud, and perhaps more specifically, fraud that sometimes happens internally. It is one of five parts of a limited series focused on fraud in the #accountspayable function. Fraud protection not only means fraud prevention it also includes fraud detection. While ideally the detection occurs before the funds go out the door, sadly, it is often only discovered after multiple episodes. This is Episode 103 of the AP Now podcast. Accounts payable fraud in the form of embezzlement is sometimes referred to as pink collar crime. This is because it is the one type of crime that is committed more frequently by women than men. But that is not to say that men don't embezzle. They absolutely do. As Kelly Paxton likes to say, pink collar crime is about the position not the gender She explains in more detail during this session. Our guest on this episode of the AP Now podcast is Kelly Paxton, a certified fraud examiner with years of experience. She's recently written a book on the topic. Book link: https://greatwomeninfraud.com/#embezzlement Fraud protection in an organization should be advanced as it happens. Whether you call it corporate fraud or internal fraud or employee fraud, occupational fraud hurts not only the reputation of your organization, but the organization's bottom line. During the session, Paxton shares insights, tips and advice for those looking to protect themselves. She also introduced the concepts of fraud hashtags and a fraud therapist. Paxton demonstrates her recommendations through real life examples, cases where companies have been defrauded by employees through all sorts of mechanisms. She reminds the audience that “trust is not an internal control,” as too many companies have learned the hard way. Nine entrepreneurs share their real-life experiences turning their corporate skills into niche businesses. Sharing insights and lessons learned from their accounting, finance, management, and leadership positions, these savvy women created niche businesses. These new enterprises dove into largely unchartered areas allowing these entrepreneurs to carve out a place for their very successful businesses. Whether you consider them primarily #womenentrepreneurs or #nicheentrepreneurs their stories are an inspiration for those evaluating their #careers and wondering whether to stay or follow their own entrepreneurial path. What makes this story particularly interesting is the fact that they each created businesses with a twist; they all adapted when they saw the market change. Whether that meant going online when live meetings became impossible or responding to market demand for a new type of service, they all rose to the occasion. Interestingly, many in the group came together as a result of meeting on Twitter; hence the hashtag, #MagicofTwitter Learn more about Brenda Bernstein at https://theessayexpert.com/ Learn more about Beth Blaney at: www.bethblaney.com Learn more about Hanna Hasl-Kelchner at: https://businessconfidentialradio.com Learn more about Lynn Larson at https://www.recharged-education.com/ Learn more about Marie Mills at: https://www.clearsolutionsbymarie.com/ Learn more about Kelly Paxton at https://pinkcollarcrime.com/ Learn more about Debra R Richardson https://www.debrarrichardson.com/ Learn more about Deborah Thomas-Nininger at: www.dtn-productions.com Learn more about Mary Schaeffer at www.ap-now.com Listen to Brenda Bernstein on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/5nsMT8S0ncA Listen to Beth Blaney on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/1ov_LRSZzs8 Listen to Hanna Hasl-Kelchner on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/chGRvewBO0Q Listen to Lynn Larson on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/N3joHH8sGYA Listen to Marie Mills on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/EdTNXRu9P-I Listen to Kelly Paxton on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/NIxniQbMFIQ Listen to Debra R Richardson on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/3PSiqKVzjZo Listen to Deborah Thomas-Nininger on the AP Now Podcast here https://youtu.be/-gQf9e_2lnY Listen to Mary Schaeffer on the AP Now Podcast here: https://youtu.be/SJSme3ZcvKs Host: Mary Schaeffer (https://www.ap-now.com/) Credit: Music: https://www.purple-planet.com
