The Investigation Game podcast is a truly fascinating and informative show that delves into the world of fraud investigation. I recently binged this podcast over the course of a few days and can confidently say that it is great. Hosted by Leah, this podcast offers unique perspectives on various topics related to fraud investigation, making it an invaluable resource for professionals in the field as well as anyone interested in learning more about this subject.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the wide range of guests that Leah brings on board. Each episode features interviews with experts from different areas of fraud investigation, providing listeners with diverse insights and viewpoints. This variety keeps the content fresh and engaging, ensuring that there is always something new to learn with each episode. Additionally, Leah's interviewing skills are commendable. She asks thought-provoking questions and allows her guests to share their knowledge and experiences fully.
Another highlight of The Investigation Game podcast is how it manages to make a seemingly stiff subject like fraud investigation incredibly interesting. Leah's ability to break down complex concepts into understandable terms makes this podcast accessible to both professionals in the field and those who have no prior knowledge of fraud investigation. The episodes are well-structured, covering a wide range of topics such as forensic accounting, cybersecurity, and whistleblowing, among others.
However, one potential downside to the podcast is that earlier episodes do not provide links or references for mentioned books, media, or other resources. While the Blubrry link only contains the podcast itself, it would be beneficial for listeners if there was a listing or linking to these references. This would enable individuals who want to further explore certain topics or recommendations made during the podcast to easily access them.
In conclusion, The Investigation Game podcast is an outstanding resource for anyone interested in fraud investigation or looking to stay current in the field. Leah's enthusiasm for her work shines through in each episode, making it both informative and enjoyable. Despite the minor drawback of the lack of references in earlier episodes, this podcast is a must-listen for professionals and anyone intrigued by the subject matter.

This summer while at the ACFE Global Fraud Conference several speakers and friends of the podcast got together to play an escape room. Before and after the escape room adventure, Leah found herself engrossed in stories from investigators around the US and didn't want the conversation to end. It was these valuable conversations that inspired the format for the next 6 episodes of the podcast. For the remainder of 2022, Leah is joined by investigators to share case stories from investigations worked in a variety of areas. In this episode, Leah is joined by Chris Ekimoff, CPA/CFF, CFE and Jessica Yohe, CPA, CFE who discuss cases involving embezzlement from financial institutions.Data Sleuth: Using Data in Forensic Accounting Engagements and Fraud Investigations by Leah Wietholter, CFE, PI, CPAWhen Leah joined the financial investigation industry over 15 years ago, her goal was to work as many cases as possible, but getting those first few cases felt extremely challenging with questions like, “How do I get the casework without the experience? And how do I get the experience without the casework? And when I get the casework, will I know what to do?”Based on her experience of working over 200 cases in her career, she wrote Data Sleuth® to help others facing this very problem. It is the book she needed so many years ago. In this book, she explains how to start a financial investigation from case planning, to finding best evidence, to incorporating non-financial evidence – like interviews and open source intelligence, and ultimately, how to put it altogether for clients or even law enforcement with step by step details and case examples. If you want to gain confidence in financial investigations to build your case experience, you need to read Leah's book. Nursing home abuse and neglect is a real problem - especially for several states. In this episode of The Investigation Game Podcast, Nic Decker, PI explains the evidence and investigation steps he takes while investigating cases involving nursing home abuse and neglect. Based on his investigative experience with such matters, Nic shares with listeners the red flags and warning signs to look for, and ways to research a nursing home, when having to make long-term care decisions for a loved one.In 2005, Nic began his career as a Private Investigator. It became evident soon after, that there was a lack of overall quality of service and innovation in the Oklahoma market. Nic sought out veterans in the fields of personal injury, nursing home abuse & neglect, and criminal defense who exemplified these long lost qualities and studied the foundational principles and practices that built their stellar reputation among their clients and colleagues. One year later, in 2006, Paradigm Investigations was born out of Nic's drive for excellence to restore honor to his field. It is this same passion and drive that continues to accelerate each of Paradigm Investigation's cases to success today.RESOURCES AVAILABLE FROM WORKMAN FORENSICSOrder Leah's new book Data Sleuth on Amazon!CONNECT WITH NIC DECKER LinkedIn: Nic Decker Website: http://investigateoklahoma.com/CONNECT WITH WORKMAN FORENSICS Youtube: @WorkmanForensics Facebook: @wforensics Twitter: @wforensics Instagram: @wforensics LinkedIn: @workmanforensics Subscribe and listen to this and more episodes of The Investigation Game on Apple Podcasts, Android, or anywhere you listen.

The Investigation Game is back! In this episode, Leah talks with Retired DEA Special Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena, whose real-life story inspired the hit Netflix series NARCOS. Retired DEA Special Agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena were at the center of the largest, most complex, multi-national, high-profile investigation of its time. Living and working alongside their Colombian national police counterparts in Columbia and with the elite US military units, their efforts resulted in the dismantlement of the largest and most violent international drug trafficking organization of its time. US and international law enforcement continue to utilize many of the strategies and innovative ideas created and implemented by Steve and Javier. On this week's episode, Javier Levia discusses a side of investigations we have not visited much in the past, the side of the pretender. Javier explains how his podcast started off as a simple discussion of people pretending to be someone else but quickly turned into a true crime podcast. PRETEND is a story-driven show about real people pretending to be someone who they're not. The podcast features interviews with con artists, snake oil salesmen, and undercover agents—anyone living a lie. His investigative podcast career has taken him to some wild places. Javier reported from inside a cult, which is the basis for this film. During his reporting, the host inadvertently became part of the story. He's also interviewed a woman who sells bleach as a form of medication. And his reporting exposed a prank ring responsible for thousands of dollars in damages. Javier worked 15 years in television, producing documentaries, news, and commercials. Most recently, he's worked as a creative director at various marketing agencies. Regardless of the medium, his passion is storytelling. On this week's episode of the Investigation Game, Leah talks with Tulsa based investigator, Gary Glanz. The two explore the case that earned Glanz the title, "The Super Sleuth" by The Wall Street Journal, along with many more cases throughout his life. For more than 50 years, Tulsa private investigator Gary Glanz has been solving major crimes, locating missing people, recovering tens of millions of dollars in cash and other valuable materials and securing priceless art collections—all with a flair, and a sense of professionalism and discretion that have earned him an international reputation. Originally making a name for himself as one of the youngest detectives in the history of the Tulsa Police Department, where he received numerous awards and citations, Glanz left the police department in 1967 to establish his own private investigative firm. Gary Glanz continues to produce results to this day, often in situations where law enforcement authorities or other private investigators have failed. His ability to solve the tough cases brought him to the attention of the Wall Street Journal. A reporter from the newspaper accompanied him when Glanz solved a restaurant burglary, apprehended the three suspects and recovered the money from a Florida swamp where it had been buried. The front-page profile article sealed Glanz's reputation as one of the nation's top investigators. On this week's episode of the Investigation Game, Leah talks with Tracy Coenen about her take on the multi-level marketing industry. After working as a distributor for a well-known multi-level marketing company only to break even on her buy in, Coenen has used her expertise as a fraud investigator to highlight the scam that most people don't know about. Listen in to understand how this model often takes advantage of its members. Tracy has been investigating fraud for more than 20 years, but she didn't always want to be a forensic accountant. With a dream of one day being a prison warden, Tracy went to Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI to get a criminology degree. A class on financial crime investigations reminded her how much she loved Encyclopedia Brown books as a kid. She continued her criminology degree, but added accounting and economics courses so she could sit for the CPA exam… and here Tracy is, finding money in cases of corporate fraud, high net worth divorce, and other financial shenanigans.
