Everyone cue up The Buddi Song and get ready to sing along! We're taking a look at the much-maligned attempt to reboot the Child's Play franchise. It turns out it's basically a first draft of M3GAN and a bit better than we remember. Cut a slice of watermelon and join us as we try to figure out what time of year it is, feel super conflicted about a good cop, and show our age by talking about My Buddy and Teddy Ruxpin dolls. Please rate, review, and tell your fiends. And be sure to subscribe so you don't miss future installments. Join us on Patreon at patreon.com/thefrankencast. Join us for our review of the 2019 Horror Film, Child's Play. Directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith.
Welcome to week 2 of our (Fe)Bruary Killer Robot horror month! This week, join Jake and Ade as they discuss the killer doll slash droid reimagining of Child's Play -- that's right, Child's Play 2019! While this was sacrilege, according to Ade, when it came out, we find that this actually a good, if not great, reimagining of Don Mancini's source material, and it does well with the gore and special effects. Directed by dreamy Lars Klevberg on a budge of $10 million, it grossed a whopping $45 million, and stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Tim Matheson, Gabriel Batemen and Chucky himself is voiced by the iconic Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill. In this adaptation, Chucky is not possessed, and no, unfortunately we don't get a fun cameo from Brad Dourif, but what we do have is a droid that is programmed to be murderous. We get a lot of fun gore, a lot of what the fuck moments, and a nice little scene featuring our favorite Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. Hope you all have as much fun listening as we did recording! What goes bump in the night giving Kyle a fright? This week it's Child's Play (2019) directed by Lars Klevberg. This remake of a classic film brings a killer doll to life in the digital world as he torments all in the name of friendship. Who built an evil switch into that doll? How many backup cats does Mat have? Are the boys going to get sued? Sing along with all your friends as the Boo Boys break it all down.
Everyone loves a remake! Or wait, no. Remakes are a highly divisive topic for many fandoms, the Child's Play one included. In this 2019 film by Lars Klevberg, Child's Play gets an update for the modern, smart home era. Gone are the voodoo rituals and serial killer soul transfers, hello Aubrey Plaza and Buddi doll. Listen in and tell us if you think this is a worthy addition to the mythos of Chuck. Edited by Megan Prior-Pfeifer. Music by Zach Pfeifer.
This week we watch the remake of 1988’s Child Play, and were very unimpressed. We talk about Chucky and Andy’s dysfunctional relationship, neglectful parenting, suburban watermelon patches, and the moment we would have yeeted a Buddi doll out of the house. We’re #TeamAnnabelle in this fight, for sure. Rate and subscribe or you’ll never have a Buddi doll. Stats/info: 2019, directed by Lars Klevberg, starring Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry and Mark Hamill
Episode 231: The Crew's running from an evil AI doll with an E.T. finger while watching the remake of Child's Play. Brad Dourif has been replaced with Mark Hamill doing the voice of Chucky. And Hamill is a great voice actor but the switch doesn't work as well; less creepy. The cast does a fantastic job and the lighting/camerawork is impressive. But the story is very lackluster. Bear McCreary does a nice job of updating the score. The Crew discusses… and be sure to stick around, cause Jared does a sing-along at the end. Movie Meltdown - Episode 515 (For our Patreon "Horror Club") This Horror Club episode we discuss "Polaroid", the 2019 film directed by Lars Klevberg. And as we run through the weird urban legends of Polaroids, we also bring up… Locke & Key, Horse Girl, Eerie, Indiana, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Madelaine Petsch, throuples are all the rage, walking around with a kerosene lantern, there’s a lot of loose ends to this movie, Mitch Pileggi, predicts the future, there's a lot of homicidal kids, the whole scarf thing, Beta-test from the 40’s, ping pong, given my experience with photography and fire, lamp placement, there’s a deeper level to this that I never picked up on before, a lot of things in this movie that come up - that there's no payoff for, conspiracy theory, Tupperware, Instax, Goosebumps, fetchin' collarbones, somebody in this scenario needs to be creeped out by this - ‘cause I am, CGI, that noise, Joe Hill, a brandable name, surely it's not meant to be this dark, a movie so underdeveloped that you’ll want to shake it, Grace Zabriskie, it’s built into human DNA, in the darkroom, giving Georgie something to do, The Mummy and the Island of the Samoas. Spoiler Alert: Full spoilers for the movie "Polaroid", so go watch the movie before you listen. “How do you convince Polaroid, the company, to sign off on this? You’re saying that yes, your camera murders people - in a magical sort-of way.” Thank you to all our supporters! If you would like to join the club, go to: https://www.patreon.com/moviemeltdown

Be sure to rate and subuscribe or we’ll buy you a good guys doll that’s actually alive and is seeking vengeance. Stats/info: 1988, directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Don Mancini, starring Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, and Brad Dourif (Intro music from https://www.free-stock-music.com)

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. The 1988 horror movie CHILD’S PLAY was not only a success but also became a fairly popular franchise. With a serial killer’s soul now possessing a child’s toy, the movie had many places to go. It also had Brad Dourif who turned the “monster” into something with a quirky personality. Now 2019, a remake of the film was released. However, the story was updated for the modern era. Karen (Aubrey Plaza) is a single mother who works for a department store. She’s able to get a returned Buddi doll from the warehouse for her thirteen year old son Andy. Buddi is able to connect to Bluetooth, wifi, and tablets throughout the house allowing him to be used as a tool as much as a toy. Soon, Andy begins to suspect that this version of the Buddi doll may be defective. Unlike as advertised, any protective programming seems to have been removed. Though starring Aubrey Plaza, the movie is really a starring vehicle for the young actor Gabriel Bateman who plays Andy. The movie was directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith. Both are fairly new with little renown prior. Dark Discussions takes a look at this interesting take on the beloved franchise and gives their thoughts whether it stands out or not. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

Child's Play serves as the remake and reboot of the original Child's Play movie from 1988. Directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith, Child's Play follows a mother a son who are terrorised by a high-tech doll that rejects its programming and becomes self-aware. Zed-Mart clerk Karen Barclay (Aubrey Plaza) and her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) are settling into their new apartment. In an attempt to cheer Andy up and make up for the unease caused by the move, as well as the presence of her new boyfriend Shane (David Lewis), Karen acquires a refurbished Kaslan Buddi doll as an early birthday present for Andy. This reinvented high-tech Chucky (Mark Hamill) talks, learns, and can remotely interface with other Kaslan products. Once Andy activates the doll it does everything it can to protect Andy and be his "best-friend" - going on a murderous rampage in an attempt to please him.
For Episode 21 the boys are back in the studio and re-joined by a special guest, Brandon Verklas. They chop it up on Child's Play as a franchise as well as review the classic from 1988 and Lars Klevberg's reimagining starring Mark Hammill as the possessed buddi doll in 2019. Crack open a couple of cold ones with us, leave your reviews for these films in the comments and let us know what you think we should review next!

Join us this week as we befriend a murderous doll, and fail at basic detective work (not to mention screenwriting) all while discussing the brand new horror reboot ‘Child’s Play’, as demanded by a regretful patron. Child's Play is a 2019 American horror film directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith. It serves as a remake and reboot of the 1988 film of the same title, following a family that is terrorized by a high-tech doll that rejects its programming and becomes self-aware. The film stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry, with Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. The film was officially announced in July 2018, and is the first film featuring Chucky produced without the involvement of creator Don Mancini or actor Brad Dourif. Klevberg and Smith signed on as director and screenwriter, respectively, alongside It producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. You might recognize Carlease Burke from a number of TV shows like, Crowded, Ballers, Switched at Birth, The Middle or films like, Jumanji, The Back-Up Plan or PROM, but its her new project that is starting to create more waves for Carlease, Child's Play Remake. From the 1988 original film, Child's Play, Child's Play Remake is on it's way and hitting theaters June 21st from director Lars Klevberg and producers, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, who plan to unleash a new version of Chucky, voiced by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. Along side Hamill is our own, Carlease Burke, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Tim Matheson. The Child's Play trailer (below) shows some glimpses of the murderous Buddi doll and it set to be a suspenseful film. Carlease plays, “Doreen," a heavy drinker, who talks loud, but has a very playful relationship with her son, “Detective Mike Morris” played by ATL's Brian Tyree Henry. They live in the same building as Andy, the young boy, “Doreen” likes to look after the neighborhood kids, especially Andy and finds herself in the middle of what is a “deadly situation." Carlease, who's has played roles like, a schizophrenic homeless mother, a refined principal of a deaf school in Switched At Birth, a flashy football mom enjoying her son's money in Ballers and a foul-mouthed, truck driving lesbian in Shameless. Her roles are listed among over 140 credits. She has been a familiar face in commercials, film and television for over 34 years. One of her most exciting projects is the recent completion of Season 1 of Crowded on NBC, a sitcom created by Suzanne Martin and produced by Hazy Mills Productions. Carlease loved bringing the role of Alice Moore to life with her “tell it like it is” humor and comical moments with TV husband Stacy Keach who played Bob Moore. The cast also starred Patrick Warburton, Carrie Preston, Miranda Cosgrove, Mia Serafino and Clifford McGee. Carlease Burke was raised in Hollis, Queens and attended City College of New York where she received her B.A. in Pre-Law before pursuing her passion and moving to Los Angeles. While continuing to add to her theatrical resume, Carlease took up American Sign Language where she earned an A.S. degree in ASL Interpreting. This new language came in very “handy” for her work with Marlee Matlin in Sweet Nothing In My Ear and Switched At Birth. In her free time, Carlease enjoys traveling, cooking, swimming, cycling and taking all kinds of classes from African drumming to Lindy Hopping. She loves music and reads a lot of books. Carlease is a voting member of The Television Academy, an advocate for victims of domestic violence and boldly supports her favorite charities, The Felix Organization (adoptees enriching the lives of children in foster care), The SAF-AFTRA Foundation and The Motion Picture and Television Fund.
