It's the spookiest time of the year - Schlocktober! The guys dive back into the first non-scam artists Conjuring-verse flick Annabelle and the road starts off... just a little bumpy. They talk about the weird cult subplot that should have been the main plot, the doll not being pleasant to look at for anyone to genuinely want in their house, Alfre Woodard breathing life into the film in the ninth inning and much more. Next week: Schlocktober continues with a rather notorious found-footage movie. What We've Been Watching: Tales from the Crypt (1972) Trick 'R' Treat Questions? Comments? Suggestions? The guys are all over the road this week as they talk about the road-rage/serial killer thriller Unhinged starring Russell Crowe. Joining them is returning guest Galen Howard, who has lots of theories about a fake mother. The guys discuss the film in-depth and wonder - is Russell Crowe delivering the performance of a lifetime? Is there such thing as TOO MUCH foreshadowing? How much does Galen know about driving etiquette in California? Did that opening credit sequence get lifted from a different movie? What would happen in the sequel? Enjoy! Check our social media on Sunday for the Sunday Screencrap and take a guess at our next movie! This week we watch the remake of 1988’s Child Play, and were very unimpressed. Episode 231: The Crew's running from an evil AI doll with an E.T. finger while watching the remake of Child's Play. Brad Dourif has been replaced with Mark Hamill doing the voice of Chucky. And Hamill is a great voice actor but the switch doesn't work as well; less creepy. The cast does a fantastic job and the lighting/camerawork is impressive. But the story is very lackluster. Bear McCreary does a nice job of updating the score. The Crew discusses… and be sure to stick around, cause Jared does a sing-along at the end. IL EST TEMPS DE SAUVER LE CINÉMA ! Christopher Nolan revient ! Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. The 1988 horror movie CHILD’S PLAY was not only a success but also became a fairly popular franchise. With a serial killer’s soul now possessing a child’s toy, the movie had many places to go. It also had Brad Dourif who turned the “monster” into something with a quirky personality. Now 2019, a remake of the film was released. However, the story was updated for the modern era. Karen (Aubrey Plaza) is a single mother who works for a department store. She’s able to get a returned Buddi doll from the warehouse for her thirteen year old son Andy. Buddi is able to connect to Bluetooth, wifi, and tablets throughout the house allowing him to be used as a tool as much as a toy. Soon, Andy begins to suspect that this version of the Buddi doll may be defective. Unlike as advertised, any protective programming seems to have been removed. Though starring Aubrey Plaza, the movie is really a starring vehicle for the young actor Gabriel Bateman who plays Andy. The movie was directed by Lars Klevberg and written by Tyler Burton Smith. Both are fairly new with little renown prior. Dark Discussions takes a look at this interesting take on the beloved franchise and gives their thoughts whether it stands out or not. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

Looky looky two in one week again! Wow, we are like butter because we are on a roll. Today the two nerds Mike and Matt review Child’s Play (2019). Super special added topics include hot tacos, Spawn, Crawl, Matt and Mike are old, and lastly the history of the Child’s Play franchises. Child’s Play (2019) is a unique idea in our modern world for the infamous Chucky. It is not a reboot but a re-imagining of a classic horror film for today’s time. The movie does not take itself too seriously adding a fair bit of humor from start to finish. The acting is good especially Aubrey Plaza, Mark Hamill, the voice of Chucky, and Gabriel Bateman. The sets are well done even the odd ones, the gore and makeup is great, and the cinematography isn’t half bad either. With all that aside it is not an incredible must see film in the theaters but it is definitely worth a rent from Redbox or on one of the many streaming services. Mike Talent really enjoyed himself and awards Child’s Play (2019) 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Matt also did not hate this horror flick but he did think there were areas worth exploring more. He gives the film an average rating of 3 out of 5 Reels. Next week despite what the critics are already saying they are reviewing Yesterday, a fun unique film based kinda on the infamous band The Beatles. If he has time friend, listener of the show, and Beatles fanatic Steve Stockmar hopefully will give us his thoughts on the film too. We hope you continue to enjoy our podcast because we really enjoy making it for you! 31 years ago my dad took me and my brother to see the original Child's Play. Today I did something almost as nice for my dad by NOT bringing him to this movie that also claims to be called "Child's Play" - there were some things in it I enjoyed, but I honestly might've liked it more had they just had some generic robot toy and NOT Chucky. The Dangerous Book for Boys was required reading in City Dads contributor Whit Honea's house when his sons were younger, and the new Amazon Prime series by Bryan Cranston and Greg Mottola is now must-watch TV. Whit speaks with one of the young stars from the new show, Gabriel Bateman, who plays Wyatt, a boy trying to find himself through loss and imagination. Whit's 12-year-old Zane Honea also joins to share his thoughts on the book, the show, and his dad's overall job performance.
Today, on the Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor will interview Gabriel Bateman of Benji. Gabriel Bateman will be seen next starring lead in the Amazon comedy series “The Dangerous Book for Boys” created by Bryan Cranston and directed by Greg Mottola. “The Dangerous Book for Boys” will premiere on March 30th. Gabriel will also star in the reboot of the hit 1974 family classic, Benji, which will release on Netflix on March 16th. Gbariel will also be seen as “Alex”, opposite Michelle Monaghan, where he plays Monaghan's son, in the Indie biopic Saint Judy. Gabriel will next be seen in Robert The Bruce, the story that continues where the Oscar-winning Braveheart left off. He is best known for his role in the James Wan-produced horror box office hit, Lights Out and was seen in the murder-mystery series, “American Gothic” on CBS. He also is known for his standout role on Robert Kirkman's (creator of "The Walking Dead") series “Outcast” on Cinemax. Past credits include his heavily recurring role as ‘Ethan Taylor' (Dylan McDermott's son) in “Stalker”, as well as Annabelle and Band of Robbers.
Remember Benji? Gabriel probably doesn't. In fact, many of our listeners probably don't. The 70s was a long time ago. The good news is Benji's coming back thanks in part to Gabriel, a star of the movie coming out tomorrow. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
