In this June 17th webinar, Tom opens by announcing that Cowan's Community Corner is now live. He shares that this space is where events are announced, where ongoing conversations can continue, and where members can participate in a monthly live Q&A with him.He then gives a recap of the first New Biology Experience Conference at Polyface Farm, describing it as a “wildly, almost amazingly successful” gathering. Tom thanks the organizing team, Polyface Farm staff, apprentices, interns, New Biology Clinic practitioners, and everyone who attended for helping create a joyful and memorable event.Highlights from the New Biology Experience include:-Tom's opening welcome on the importance of freedom and truth in developing community.-Joel Salatin's welcome and history of Polyface Farm, including the story of regenerating the land through rotational grazing.-The historic return of cows to a pasture that had not been grazed in over 100 years.-Tom's talk, “The Day the Science Died.”-Sessions with New Biology Clinic wellness specialists, including movement, EFT, biofield tuning, cooking, food classes, and practitioner-led talks.-Chris Brown's talk on vitality and the difference between healing and fixing.-Shared meals featuring food raised at Polyface Farm.-Live music from the Red Pill Friends, including their song “The Day the Science Died.”He then reflects on several themes and questions that came up during the event. Some questions discussed include:-What about this whole DNA story?-How can I do better, have a better life, feel happier, more joy?-What is this pain trying to tell me?-"I don't know anything about what's true. I don't know what's true anymore"-and much moreThroughout the webinar, Tom emphasizes that healing begins with asking the right question. Rather than focusing on fixing isolated diagnoses, test results, or symptoms, he encourages listeners to ask what would help them live a better, healthier, more joyful life. He also reflects on the importance of direct experience, sensory observation, clear thinking, experimentation, and shared community as reliable ways of knowing.Tom closes by sharing that he will be taking the summer off from regular Wednesday webinars to recharge, garden, care for the animals, and think through new ideas. He will continue monthly Cowan's Community Corner Q&As and weekly New Biology Clinic Q&As, and plans to return to the Wednesday webinars around mid-August.Sign up for C3 here.Check out Unbekoming's SubStack to read about the DNA Story here.Red Pill Friends YouTube & link to "The Day The Science Died" song here.Support the showWebsites:https://drtomcowan.com/https://www.drcowansgarden.com/https://newbiologyclinic.com/https://newbiologycurriculum.com/Instagram: @TalkinTurkeywithTomFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrTomCowan/Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/CivTSuEjw6Qp/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzxdc2o0Q_XZIPwo07XCrNg

In this special presentation from Exit and Build 5 at Polyface Farm, River and Imani of Haven Village share one of the most compelling real-world examples of Exit and Build in action. This was actually the first time I heard them fully explain the shift toward their sub-trust model — where each neighborhood inside Haven Village operates with its own trust structure while remaining connected to the broader mission and stewardship of the land. Honestly… my mind was blown. This is next-level thinking around regenerative community design, private governance, stewardship, and long-term resilience. In this presentation, River and Imani break down: • The evolution of Haven Village • Why they shifted toward the sub-trust model • How private trusts and PMAs fit into regenerative communities • Lessons learned building a real-world freedom community • Governance, stewardship, and protecting mission alignment • What's working — and what they've had to adapt along the way If you care about intentional communities, private realm structures, regenerative living, homesteading, sovereignty, or Exit and Build strategy… this is a must-watch. River and Imani will also be speaking and hosting workshops at Exit and Build 6 this November 5–8 at Sovereignty Ranch in Bandera, Texas. Get tickets here: https://exitandbuild.com  Also… Due to overwhelming interest from people wanting to build aligned projects around the country, Haven Village and Divine Purpose PMA are launching the: Private Realm Community Mastermind June 25–29 in Old Fort, Tennessee This mastermind is for serious builders who want to create regenerative communities, intentional living projects, eco villages, land-based ministries, and sovereignty-oriented developments with strong foundations. Homesteading and education aren't just about what you know or how much you can produce. They're about the mindset, skills, and real-life experiences that shape how you live, work, and contribute to the world around you. And the truth is, more families than ever are questioning traditional education… but many aren't sure what to replace it with or how to confidently teach their kids real-world skills. In this episode of The Homestead Education Podcast, Kody Hanner sits down with Daniel Salatin of Polyface Farm to have an honest, practical conversation about learning outside the classroom, building a life through agriculture, and raising kids who are capable, confident, and ready for real life. From growing up on one of the most well-known regenerative farms to struggling in traditional academics, Daniel shares how hands-on learning, problem-solving, and purpose-driven work shaped his life and why those same principles matter now more than ever. Together, they talk about what education actually needs to look like, how kids learn best, and why real-life responsibility may be the missing piece for so many families today. This isn't just a conversation about farming or homeschooling. It's about raising a generation that knows how to think, work, and contribute. If you care about: Raising capable, confident kids Teaching real-life skills through everyday experiences Homeschooling with purpose (not pressure) Preparing kids for the real world—not just tests Building problem-solving and critical thinking skills Creating a lifestyle rooted in responsibility and contribution This episode will challenge how you think about education and remind you what actually matters. In This Episode, We Cover: Daniel's upbringing on Polyface Farm and his homeschool journey Why traditional education doesn't work for every child The importance of problem-solving over memorization How real-life responsibility creates motivation to learn Finding your life's calling and building a purpose-driven career Why agriculture and homesteading create natural learning environments The transition into leadership at Polyface Farm Inside the Polyface Stewardship Program and full farm immersion training The value of mentorship, trades, and hands-on experience How learning often happens faster when there's a real reason behind it

Dr. Sina McCullough, author of “Hands Off My Food! How to Defend Your Food, Health, and Freedom,” argues that bureaucrats, multinational biotech corporations, and regulatory loopholes have helped adulterate the U.S. food supply. McCullough describes nearly dying from rheumatoid arthritis after years of worsening symptoms despite a “clean” organic, paleo-style diet, then recovering through functional testing that revealed 15 nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and arsenic poisoning; she says she healed without pharmaceuticals. She explains that nutrition training often ignores food adulterants and claims the FDA facilitates markets rather than ensures safety, highlighting the GRAS loophole, voluntary notification, lack of long-term and cumulative testing, and industry influence via the revolving door. Examples include trans fats, glyphosate formulation issues, gene-edited crops, and recombinant bovine growth hormone approvals and labeling. She discusses organic loopholes and emphasizes solutions: read labels, “feed the good and starve the bad,” vote with purchasing, seek third-party certifications, and know your farmer; she also promotes her Beyond Labels podcast with farmer Joel Salatin.

Tom argues that such a statement would require prior purification of the virus from the sample, which he says virologists themselves claim is not possible. -The main topic of the session is meningitis, especially the claim that Neisseria meningitidis causes meningitis and septicemia. Tom reviews a scientific paper on meningococcal pathogenesis and argues that the theory fails because the bacteria are commonly found in healthy people, while actual illness is rare. -He highlights what he sees as a major weakness in the mainstream explanation: the researchers themselves admit that the mechanisms by which the bacteria move from harmless colonization in the nose to life-threatening disease remain largely unexplained. -Tom argues that the theory becomes increasingly speculative, shifting from bacteria, to subtypes, to genetic differences, to signaling pathways, instead of proving direct causation. -He also notes that there is no convincing animal model for meningococcal sepsis or meningitis and says this undermines the claim that the bacteria are the true cause. -In discussing a recent teen meningitis case, Tom speculates that vaping-related toxins such as nicotine, propylene glycol, heavy metals, and carcinogens may be a more plausible contributor to brain and tissue damage than the bacteria themselves. -He closes by arguing that meningitis vaccine campaigns are built on flawed reasoning and by reaffirming his challenge to Christopher Peacock to produce proof that a virus was isolated before cell culture.Support the showWebsites:https://drtomcowan.com/https://www.drcowansgarden.com/https://newbiologyclinic.com/https://newbiologycurriculum.com/Instagram: @TalkinTurkeywithTomFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrTomCowan/Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/CivTSuEjw6Qp/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzxdc2o0Q_XZIPwo07XCrNg

Joel Salatin is one of the most influential voices in the modern regenerative farming movement. As the founder of Polyface Farm in Virginia, he's become known for building a radically different model of agriculture, one rooted in ecological systems, local markets, and a refusal to accept industrial “efficiency” as the end goal.In this episode, Joel shares what he's learned from decades of farming and advocacy, why the middle of the food system is where so many good farms get stuck, and what it will take to move regenerative agriculture to the center of our food system. In this episode, we dive into: • Why the industrial food system prioritizes scale and uniformity over real stewardship • What we lose when farming becomes a commodity business instead of a community livelihood • The biggest barriers that keep good farms from reaching more people • Why local processing and local markets matter more than most people realize • How Polyface built an alternative model that actually works economically • What it would take for regenerative agriculture to become “normal” again • Why Joel thinks the story we tell about food is just as important as the practices • Where he sees real hope, and what he thinks we need to stop pretending will fix thingsMore about Joel:Joel Salatin co-owns, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 10 restaurants, and 5 retail outlets with salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry, and forestry products. The farm ships nationwide to your doorstep.Salatin is the editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer, granddaddy catalyst for the grass farming movement. He writes the “Confessions of a Steward” column for Plain Values magazine, the “Homestead Abundance” column for Homestead Living magazine, columns for Homesteaders of America, and a column a month for the e-magazine Manward. Stijn Schmitz welcomes Joel Salatin to the show. Joel Salatin is self described Christian Libertarian Environmentalist Capitalist Lunatic Farmer. The episode explores current trends and challenges in agricultural commodities, with a particular focus on beef, poultry, and farming practices. Salatin discusses the significant challenges facing the beef industry, including a severe drought in the southern United States, an aging farming population, and high entry costs for young farmers. The US beef cattle herd is currently at its lowest point since 1950, despite population doubling. This, combined with dietary trends like paleo and keto diets, has created unprecedented market pressure on beef prices. The conversation delves into the problematic nature of industrial farming practices. Salatin critiques the current agricultural system, highlighting how it has pushed biological systems beyond their natural capacity. He emphasizes the importance of creating habitats that allow animals to express their natural characteristics, contrasting this with large-scale industrial farming approaches. A key trend Salatin sees emerging is the “homestead tsunami” – a growing movement of small-scale farming and backyard food production. In 2020 alone, two million backyard chicken flocks started in the US. He believes this smallholder revolution could gradually challenge the industrial agricultural complex, aided by improved distribution logistics and direct-to-consumer online marketing. Regarding his own farm, Polyphase Farm, Salatin explains their approach of diversification and ecological farming. They focus on perennial systems, extensive composting, and creating a farm with multiple economic enterprises. The farm now supports 22 full-time employees and includes a stewardship program to launch young farmers. Salatin predicts future challenges including water scarcity, increasing veterinary problems in livestock industries, and continued pressure from industrial farming models that exceed their efficiency. However, he remains optimistic about the potential for small-scale, ecologically sound farming practices to create meaningful change in agricultural production. Armed with high school and college debate trophies, 16 published books, and a thriving multi-generational family farm, Salatin draws on decades of food, farming, and fantasy to captivate global audiences. Equally at home herding cows or keynoting for Wall Street CEOs, he covers profitable regenerative farming techniques alongside cultural debates like orthodoxy versus heresy.A master wordsmith, he shifts crowds from laughter to tears, frustration to hope, earning frequent standing ovations. He calls his talks “performances,” thriving on Q&A interaction: “I love the interaction,” he says. Salatin co-owns Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia—showcased in Michael Pollan’s New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and the award-winning documentary Food, Inc. The operation serves over 5,000 families, 10 restaurants, and five retail outlets with innovative products like salad bar beef, pigaerator pork, pastured poultry, and forestry goods. It ships nationwide, blending local roots with scalable business reach. When not speaking, Salatin farms hands-on, mentoring youth, inspiring visitors, and championing regenerative food systems. He’s editor of The Stockman Grass Farmer, the grass farming movement’s foundational voice, and pens columns like “Confessions of a Steward” for Plain Values magazine, “Homestead Abundance” for Homestead Living, pieces for Homesteaders of America, and monthly contributions to Manward e-magazine. His blog, Musings from the Lunatic Farmer, and co-hosted podcast BEYOND LABELS with Dr. Sina McCullough, extend his influence. A staple on radio and podcasts for preppers, homesteaders, ecological farmers, and foodies, Salatin blends practical, can-do entrepreneurial solutions with passionate sustainability advocacy.

Joel shares why he rejects the conventional industrial approach to agriculture, instead pioneering mobile and modular farming models that make it possible for new farmers to start with little debt.We dive into the health consequences of factory farming vs. pastured, stress-free animals, the truth about the “organic” label, and why transparency in farming matters more than certifications. Joel also discusses his vision for a “Food Emancipation Proclamation” that would free small farmers to create real, nourishing, convenient food without government overreach. This is an empowering, thought-provoking conversation for anyone who cares about where their food comes from, how it's grown, and the future of farming.PODCAST: Thank you for listening please subscribe and share! Today, you're in for a real treat folks. We welcome back to the program one of my all-time favorite humans, Joel Salatin.Named "the most famous farmer in America", Joel has spent his career advocating for sustainable farming practices, and pioneering models that show how food can be grown & raised in ways that:- are regenerative to our topsoils- are more humane to livestock- produce much healthier, tastier food- contribute profitably to the local economyWho wouldn't want that?Well, the government and Big Ag for starters.Joel refers to himself a "lunatic farmer" because so many of the changes he thinks our food systems need are either illegal under current law or mightily resisted by the deep-pocketed corporations controlling production and distribution. But that doesn't stop him from his passion of inspiring others to take a better path. He co-owns and operates, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers' market with produce and pastured beef, pork, poultry, as well as forestry products. On the farm, Joel and his staff pilot new practices, mentor young farmers, educate the public, and produce an excellent set of workshops for those looking to truly 'get their hands dirty' learning how to farm sustainably. He's a true hero to many, including me. And I predict he'll be one of yours, too, by the end of this discussion. For a very important look into the failures & promise of our nation's food system, watch this videoWORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? While I was away, Tactical survived thanks to the stash of homemade convenience meals we'd prepped in advance. Proof that a little forethought goes a long way. And this week, we're finally getting seedlings started for the fall garden — about a week later than planned, but they're going in. Frugality Tip If you've got a spare room sitting empty, it might be time to put it to work. We brought in $150 this week just by renting out a bedroom on Airbnb —  just a clean space, a good description, and letting the system do its thing. Sometimes the easiest money is already inside your house. Operation Independence We're gearing up for a trip to Polyface Farm to see Joel Salatin's systems in action. The goal? Learn what we can, adapt what fits, and scale up operations here at the Holler. Always learning, always building. Main Topic of the Day: Finding the Ideal Homestead Everybody wants the perfect homestead. Creek in the back, rich soil, gentle slopes, friendly neighbors, no codes, low taxes, a vast homeschooling network, hospital that is close but not TOO close…Oh — and under $200,000, please. Today, we're digging into how to actually find the IDEAL land for your homestead — starting with the real questions, not the fantasy map. Where to go in the state How to choose land Where the best community is Regulatory environment To rent or to own? What does ideal mean? WHY ARE YOUR DOING THIS? What does your ideal day on your land actually look like? Is this about freedom? Fear? Feeding your family? Are you chasing a dream… or running from a disaster? Zac Bauer of  An American Homestead's thoughts on water List what is important to you: Family Hospitals? Entertainment Supplies Church Crime/Safety Kid stuff Tax regulations Cultural mix   HERE IS THE TRUTH THOUGH : the ideal property? It's either taken or priced much higher than you will expect  - and those super nice properties also have hidden problems. That's the problem we're really solving today — what do you do when your dream and your budget don't match? That is when you have to prioritize = prioritize what you truly need in a piece of land as Zac pointed out.  In Fact the best homesteaders I know didn't start with perfect property. They started with a good enough place and made it work. EXAMPLES John Willis, Rock Quarry The Eversoles (bare land) Kerry Brown (off grid) Ryan & Steve (local partners) Shawn Mills (off grid) They didn't find a unicorn property — they built a life anyway. Joel Salatin is a farmer, author, and outspoken advocate for regenerative agriculture. His first exposure to farming came on his father's 1,000-acre chicken and dairy farm in Venezuela. In 1959, following the election of President Rómulo Betancourt—who implemented a land redistribution program—the Salatin family relocated to Virginia. There, they purchased Polyface Farm in Swoope, nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. Today, Salatin owns and operates the farm, which has become a national model for sustainable and ethical agricultural practices. Salatin is widely recognized for his pioneering work in rotational grazing, soil health, and decentralized food systems. Through his books, public speaking, and media appearances, he challenges the industrial agriculture model and promotes local food networks, transparency, and self-reliance. His work has been featured in documentaries such as Food, Inc. and Fresh, and he is the author of several books, including You Can Farm, Folks, This Ain't Normal, and The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs, in which he critiques industrial farming and advocates for a return to localized food systems. In addition to his writing, Salatin serves as editor of the monthly magazine Stockman Grass Farmer, dedicated to pasture-based livestock production. He also teaches a two-day agribusiness course in conjunction with the magazine. As an educator and speaker, Salatin has addressed audiences at institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, and the 2020 Libertarian National Convention, where he spoke about limiting government regulation in farming. ----- With gratitude to our sponsors: RA Optics https://raoptics.com/bttp Use Code: Nicole ----- Backyard Butchers Go to https://www.backyardbutchers.com/pages/nicole and use code “Nicole” for 20% off your steaks and tallow direct from the Texas ranch. ----- Sky Horse Publishing https://www.skyhorsepublishing.com/ ----- Mama Suds https://mamasuds.com Use code 'NICOLE' ----- MASA Chips http://masachips.com/bttp Use code 'BTTP' ----- Sign Up https://shop.backtothepeople.net

Few things are more valuable in life than the food we eat and the soil that grows it. So today, we have the great honor of talking with Joel Salatin. Named "the most famous farmer in America", Joel has spent his career advocating for sustainable farming practices, and pioneering models that show how food can be grown & raised in ways that: - are regenerative to our topsoils - are more humane to livestock - produce much healthier, tastier food - contribute profitably to the local economy Who wouldn't want that? Well, the government and Big Ag for starters. Joel refers to himself a "lunatic farmer" because so many of the changes he thinks our food systems need are either illegal under current law or mightily resisted by the deep-pocketed corporations controlling production and distribution.
