Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer. He is widely famous for his book "Les Prophéties," which consists of a collection of 942 quatrains (four-line poems) that are said to predict future events. Although many of Nostradamus' predictions are open to interpretation, some have been linked to significant events in history, such as the French Revolution, the rise of Napoleon, and the 9/11 attacks. Since his first prediction in 1555, people the world over have been decoding and deciphering Nostradamus's book “Les Prophéties” to see what insight it can give into the future. Thanks to the lovely and talented Eve Gallois, whose has previously been on the podcast channeling Victor Hugo and George Sand, I was able to speak with Nostradamus directly. Tune in this episode as we discuss his life, death, and some of his famous predictions.  Michel de Nostredame (depending on the source, 14 or 21 December 1503 – 1 or 2 July 1566), usually Latinised as Nostradamus,[a] was a French astrologer, physician and reputed seer, who is best known for his book Les Prophéties, a collection of 942 poetic quatrains[b] allegedly predicting future events. The book was first published in 1555. Nostradamus's father's family had originally been Jewish, but had converted to Catholic Christianity a generation before he was born. He studied at the University of Avignon, but was forced to leave after just over a year when the university closed due to an outbreak of the plague. He worked as an apothecary for several years before entering the University of Montpellier, hoping to earn a doctorate, but was almost immediately expelled after his work as an apothecary (a manual trade forbidden by university statutes) was discovered. He first married in 1531, but his wife and two children died in 1534 during another plague outbreak. He fought alongside doctors against the plague before remarrying to Anne Ponsarde, with whom he had six children. He wrote an almanac for 1550 and, as a result of its success, continued writing them for future years as he began working as an astrologer for various wealthy patrons. Catherine de' Medici became one of his foremost supporters. His Les Prophéties, published in 1555, relied heavily on historical and literary precedent, and initially received mixed reception. He suffered from severe gout toward the end of his life, which eventually developed into edema. He died on 1 or 2 July 1566. Many popular authors have retold apocryphal legends about his life. In the years since the publication of his Les Prophéties, Nostradamus has attracted many supporters, who, along with much of the popular press, credit him with having accurately predicted many major world events.[6][7] Most academic sources reject the notion that Nostradamus had any genuine supernatural prophetic abilities and maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus's quatrains are the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations (sometimes deliberate).[8] These academics argue that Nostradamus's predictions are characteristically vague, meaning they could be applied to virtually anything, and are useless for determining whether their author had any real prophetic powers. They also point out that English translations of his quatrains are almost always of extremely poor quality, based on later manuscripts, produced by authors with little knowledge of sixteenth-century French, and often deliberately mistranslated to make the prophecies fit whatever events the translator believed they were supposed to have predicted. L'adjectif « heureux » qui qualifie et valorise l'être disciple fait écho aux béatitudes (l'humilité, la douceur, la miséricorde, l'amour de la justice… Matthieu 5.3-12 ) , aux promesses du prophète Daniel (heureux celui qui attend et qui marche Daniel 12.12) et de Jean dans son Apocalypse (heureux celui qui veille, ceux qui gardent la Parole, qui lavent leur robes, celui qui lit la prophétie… Apocalypse 1.3), aux encouragements des Psaumes (heureux celui qui se confie en toi, celui qui cherche en Dieu un refuge… Psaumes 43.9 ; 40 ). Le disciple est heureux quand son cœur se nourrit de la bienheureuse espérance décrite par Paul à Tite (2.13) qui nous recentre, malgré les obstacles, sur la plus belle promesse de la parole de Dieu : celle de son prochain retour. Tout projet d'église doit avoir comme objectif élevé la qualité des liens qui nous rassemblent. Dans le Psaume 34.5, le terme « rayonnant » décrit le croyant qui consacre son existence à fixer le regard sur son Seigneur. Le rayonnement est un phénomène naturel, et le témoignage devrait l'être également. Nos contemporains ont tendance à rejeter tout ce qui est artificiel, ils sont en recherche d'authenticité, de cohérence. Le témoignage d'une communauté ne peut se résumer à quelques événements ou à l'invitation de « spécialistes » de l'évangélisation. Ces projets n'ont de sens que s'ils prennent le relais d'une attitude persévérante de témoignage dans le quotidien : ce que je suis (ou ce que Christ fait dans mon cœur et ma vie), là où je suis (là où Il me place).
