Prompted by our youngest team member's desire for shorter podcasts on her regular commuteto and from LSE, Can You Hear Us? is proud to present So We Heard, a series of bite-sized,informal chats dedicated to exploring academic theories, case studies, and current affairs withininternational development through the lens of black, indigenous, and women of color (BIWOC).With episodes lasting 30 minutes or less, Can You Hear Us team members join assistantproducer, Ragini Puri, on a quick deep-dive into what topic within development is peaking theirinterest and why it matters. Since we are in the middle of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, Madiera, one of CYHU's founders, joins Ragini to discuss GBV. In this episode, Kristen and Carol sit down with Bri, a digital nomad coach, sustainable travel content creator, and travel blogger. Bri talks about how she initially started blogging to keep her family and friends updated on her adventures while traveling. And over time, Bri became a certified travel agent and her blog evolved into a comprehensive ethical and sustainable travel website known as Travel Munchers, where she provides in-depth guides and recommendations for various destinations. They discuss the concept of greenwashing, where companies falsely claim to be environmentally friendly or sustainable, highlighting the need for consumers to be discerning. They talk a bit about various aspects of sustainable travel, including eco-conscious practices, such as supporting local communities, minimizing waste, and choosing eco-friendly accommodations.Throughout the episode, the conversation naturally shifts to everyone's favorite travel destinations, including the Nordic countries, renowned for their strong emphasis on sustainability and conservation efforts; Indonesia, including popular destinations like Bali, Lombok and and the Gili Islands; and other potential destinations, including Figi, Madiera, Zanzibar, Thailand, Laos, and Sri Lanka.Mentions:Blog: https://travelmunchers.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/travel_munchers/Zanzibar aribnb Independent "restaurants": https://www.travelingspoon.com/Zanzibar: on google mapsSupport the showPlease download, like, subscribe, share a review, and follow us on your favorite podcasts app and connect with us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wherenextpodcast/View all listening options: https://wherenextpodcast.buzzsprout.com/HostsCarol: https://www.instagram.com/carol_freelance_life/Kristen: https://www.instagram.com/team_wake/ If you can, please support the show or you can buy us a coffee.

“International development encourages us to view the world as a ‘bigger picture'.” -Doris Huang “When we are talking about international development, we do need to be mindful of the fact that the reason inequalities exist is because they were created. If the west is prosperous, they did so at the cost of someone else not being prosperous.” - Ragini Puri “ID focuses more on the actor ‘doing development' as opposed to the site of development. Hence, there is less focus on creating an environment where development can foster itself.” - Sanjana Sundar The Can You Hear Us podcast is back! There are several themes we are eager to explore with our brand-new team. In this Meet The Team episode Monica and Madiera are joined by Ragini, our assistant producer, Sanjana, our social media manager, and Doris, our lead researcher all responsible for the conversations that will take place in this third series of the podcast. Today, the new team discuss: everything International Development (ID)! Doris, is a first-year sociology student at the LSE, who had not heard about ID before joining the podcast. However, after discussions with Monica and Madiera, she realised that she had in fact done work which could fall under development. To this end, she asks Ragini and Sanjana to elaborate on their understanding of international development and its definition. This leads to an insightful conversation about what the main goal of ID is, what constitutes the ID space, and why we need ID! Turning to Inclusivity, Sanjana provides insights about how ID tends to be gendered. She also touches upon the idea of those who provide aid versus those who receive aid. The team draws from their own experiences to understand what an inclusive ID space would look like and while there are no concrete answers, the team builds on each other's knowledge to come up with practical solutions. In the final segment, the team becomes introspective as they discuss where they stand in the ID space. As students and alumni of LSE, the team discusses the inherent elitism in the ID space. Sanjana had already touched upon the idea of an active actor and a passive receiver. The team expands on this topic to include personal anecdotes of instances where they first realised their own position in ID. After an excellent conversation about everything ID, Monica and Madiera bring out the wheel of questions! For this episode, the guests had to answer the prompt, “Horoscopes, yay or nay?” As an issue that has swept up the youth, there were many opinions to be shared. In an interesting discovery, the CYHU team realised there are three cusps on the team! To find out who votes yay and who votes nay, as well as who those cusps are, make sure you tune in to our brand new episode of Can You Hear Us!

Beyond Mediocrity: Successful Development Tips for Catholic Schools and Parishes
In this edition of “Beyond Mediocrity,” Frank Donaldson, president of ISPD, introduces and has a conversation Lelia Kramer, president of St. Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, OH. Lelia shares the many stories of success she and her team have had in positioning the school as one of the leading all-girls' schools in the Midwest. She talks about the value of mission, vision, and having a strategic growth plan in place in order to prevail and not just survive in today's world. Frank first met Lelia when she and her husband Mac were chairpersons for a successful capital campaign at St. Gertrude Parish and School in Madiera, OH.
A Kansas native, Letti Lister started her career in newspapers working for the Manhattan Mercury, while studying Journalism & Ag Economics at Kansas State University. Little did she know that ink was infectious, and upon graduation, she and her husband would feel the pull to move to the Black Hills, and continue working for the Seaton Publishing family at their Spearfish operation. Lister is now publisher and part-owner of the Black Hills Pioneer, the official daily newspaper for Lawrence, Butte, and Meade counties, and The Nation's Center News official weekly newspaper of Harding County in western South Dakota. She is the first female publisher in the 145-year history of the Black Hills Pioneer. She and her team, including her husband Scott as production manager, produce numerous specialty publications, digital media, and the Explore Black Hills mobile app, all with the strong conviction that information is power, and humor is often the best antidote in this industry. Lister has worked as a media buyer, marketing consultant, ad rep, ad manager, general manager, and newspaper publisher, tallying up over 30 years in the newspaper industry. She serves on boards including the Spearfish Community Foundation; South Dakota News Watch- a non-profit providing statewide investigative journalism; and she is the past president of the South Dakota Newspaper Association, representing 115 newspaper publishers across the state. Scott and Letti have a son, Chris who is in his senior year at Black Hills State University as an English major. Their daughter Madiera, is attending Kansas State University as a junior in Kinesiology and Gerontology. Scott and Letti are also in a livestock partnership raising Buffalo, and they are avid motorcycle riders in their free time. What You Will Learn: How a willingness to change is pivotal to success in business Why developing rapport can help you handle people that are critical of you at work How Letti was able to go from intern to part-owner in the newspaper industry What is the impact when small towns lose their local newspapers How Letti and her husband can work together without many challenges What rules at home and the workplace help support a family first lifestyle How to contact Letti Lister: Website: https://www.bhpioneer.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/letitia-lister-993ab137/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BHPioneer Twitter: https://twitter.com/bhpioneer/
Before taking a short break to finish up dissertation writing, the Can Your Hear Us team decided to tackle race in academia on their own—roundtable style. In the last of the two-part series, Madiera, Monica, Kiana, and Ana join in a Jada-Pickett-Smith-inspired “Red Table” discussion about the future of development practice, academia, and their paths post-LSE. From the importance of action-oriented research to the significance of female leadership, the team gets personal about their own experiences, thoughts, and questions for the post-COVID-19 era...and how development should change for it.
Join us WikiFreakz for a tour of the lush region of Madiera! First, we take flight with the seabird ZINO’S PETREL which finds home in the region of Portugal known as MADIERA. And you may recognize the name from the type of wine made there — MADIERA WINE. Madiera has a long and complicated origin story, including surviving the GREAT FRENCH WINE BLIGHT. A blight that devastated almost all Europe’s vineyards but not Assyrtiko a varietal grown in Greece, specifically in SANTORINI. SANTORINI is an island known for its beauty and home to some of the fiercest volcanic action on earth. It is even credited with the myth of ATLANTIS. Congrats to us and THANKS to you! Chryssy and Heather have 500 listeners per week now, and while that’s not the 10000 we aim for, it’s worth celebrating! We’ve been at this less than 10 months, and we love that you listen.Today, Chryssy talks about setting a budget. Chryssy is not an expert on this topic, but it’s about learning as we go and learning new things together. We uncover overspending, lack of discipline in spending, double charges, the need to reconcile credits cards and accounts . . . it’s all just a good reminder of How To Do Life a little better. In that spirit, the grab bag today tackles FEAR. Chryssy has a big 40th birthday hike upcoming, and there are some really scary things that run parallel to the excitement of the experience. We talk about the scary things, but more importantly, we talk about strategies for overcoming fears so that we can live our best lives. Sure, you could ignore it. You could Pollyanna it. Or you could proactively plan for those fears and take steps to eradicate the frightening parts.Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for reports from Portugal, special guest hosts, and more – all right here with Chryssy and Heather.Until next time. Dumb Nerds: Comedians Talking About Smart Topics They're Too Dumb For
The fanciest and longest episode yet! Guests Muriel Montgomery and Nick Casalini (Hella in Your Thirties Podcast) are a wonderful, married couple/talented comedians who moved to Los Angeles from Chicago three years ago. They all bond over their various day jobs of waiting tables while doing comedy at night. While Cassi worked tacky, chain restaurants like Denny’s and The Cheesecake Factory, Muriel and Nick worked at much cooler and classier places that included wine and cheese pairings! Nick and Muriel teach Cassi how to properly open a bottle of wine at a table and how to tell a good bottle of wine from a disgusting bottle of wine that might have spider legs and squirrel parts in it. Yikes! Muriel and Nick then spoil Cassi by presenting delicious cheeses with different wines of various qualities to try and see which cheese pairs best with what type of wine. It’s a delicious, drunk, fun blast of an evening. Please drink and eat cheese along with us! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Abraham obediently Embraced his faith even when life seemed confusing to him.
Lance has a bad day on set, Danger Mike is lost in the wonders of chocolate, and JB and CJ stuff their faces in Cleveland. Madiera is the wine of choice as the Summer of Wine continues!
You didn't ask for it, but you got it: another "doubles episode" with just Xander and Ben...'cause sometimes guests crap out at the last second and you want to do it anyway. Listen to Xander suffer through the outrageous sweetness of this Madiera while discussing the issues of the day with Ben. And by "issues of the day" I mean "a bunch of old bollocks". This episode is probably not the best for first-time listeners; it is heavy on the review and, of course, devoid of the joy that two additional Chicago comedians bring to the show. If you love pure, unadulterated Ben and Xander riffing a bit and talking a lot about a disgustingly sweet wine, then this is the one for you.
The Madeira(From the SurfGuitar101 website)) http://www.surfguitar101.com/TheMadeira/index.html The Madeira plays surf music born of screaming wind over the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, deafening echoes of waves pounding the Gibraltar Rock, joyous late-night gypsy dances in the small towns of Andalucia, and exotic cacophony of the Marrakesh town square.
