She details her study of remedies and a 2019 case study with promising results. Kathryn explains how she measures client progress using a customized PTSD assessment scale. Treatment length varies but some see dream improvement within weeks depending on each case's complexity. Kathryn overcame fertility and severe menopause symptoms with homeopathy herself. She helps other women naturally with individualized remedies for issues like hot flashes instead of HRT. Recently, the Minnesota State Legislature passed the Read Act, sponsored by Democratic representative Heather Edelson. It's a law based on the fad of the day; the shiny new thing called the “science of reading”. Ironically, this law is based on misconceptions and un-understandings related to both science and reading. This law states that I and other literacy professors in Minnesota must follow, with fidelity, the mandates put forth by state lawmakers. These are lawmakers who have never taught a kid to read, who have never read a research article related to reading instruction, and whose knowledge about reading instruction is reliant on the information given to them by radio journalists and podcasters (present company excepted). As part of the Read Act, the Minnesota Department of Education is now forcing me, a literacy professor at Minnesota State University, to teach things to my students that a wide range of research has shown to be ineffective in helping young children to become literate (that is, to use reading and writing for real purposes). I am forced to teach the preservice teachers in my literacy methods courses at Minnesota State University to engage in educational malpractice in their future classrooms. The Minnesota Department of Education mandates that these future teachers learn strategies that will impede their future students' ability to achieve their full literacy potential. I must promote the de-literalization of children by telling teachers to focus primarily on lower-level reading subskills instead of higher-level cognitive functions related to reading and comprehension. Worse, I must teach them how to suck all the joy out of reading.

Bob Bergland's vision and leadership led to the government's first initiative in organic and sustainable agriculture. This week, our host Ron talks with Bob about his several decades of public service, with the interview focusing primarily on four studies. This was recorded in 2017, one year before Bob passed away. Robert (Bob) Bergland was born on July 22, 1928, on a farm near Roseau, Minnesota. He lived in the community until he passed away in December 2018 at the age of 90. In 1963, he went to work for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, first at the state level in Minnesota, and later in Washington, D.C. In 1970, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving three terms from 1971 to 1977 as a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. In Congress, he served on the House Committee on Agriculture's subcommittees for Conservation and Credit, and Livestock, Grains, Dairy, and Poultry. In 1977, shortly after beginning a fourth term in the House, he was appointed Secretary of Agriculture by President Jimmy Carter and served in that role from Jan. 23, 1977, to Jan. 20, 1981. During his tenure, he commissioned a major report examining the structure of American agriculture, "A Time to Choose," and the first USDA study on organic farming, "Report and Recommendations on Organic Farming." At the end of President Carter's administration, he was named vice president and general manager of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. After retiring in 1994, he was elected by the Minnesota State Legislature to a term on the University of Minnesota Board of Regents. The interview was conducted on March 7, 2017. The Non-Prophets, Episode 21.42 airing Sunday, October 16, 2022 featuring Richard Gilliver, August and Cindy PlazaThis week we got Richard Gilliver doing his best ASMR while August and Cindy back him up with nothing but the facts. I wasted too much time with a Picard speech so let's just get right into it!First up, A Nobel prize winner is in some hot water. Why might you ask? Well I will give you three guesses with just one hint. He Catholic bishop from Portugal. Well where he is from isn't really the important part so you blew a guess on that. No, it's not because he tried to move in a straight line when he is only supposed to move diagonally. Ok, you guessed it, it is due to sexual abuse. We also get some real time fact checking in this segment so be sure to pay attention to this one!Next up, The women or Iran are starting to protest their oppressive wear! This has reverberations of other feminist protests in both the US in the 60's and in Iran when the Shiite regime took over in the late 70's and 80's. Veil burnings echoing the bra burnings an ocean away. Hopefully it doesn't take a generation or two to get the freedoms they deserve and that their male counterparts wield over them like a deadly weapon. We then turn back to the states and a massively hypocritical situation. It seems like a family values candidate doesn't quite practice what he preaches. Then again we are talking about Herschel Walker. Do we always know what he is trying to preach? He is just one of the many that got caught, but this time the hypocrisy is about an abortion(s?) of a girlfriend. He is just one name in a long string of conservative leaders. That's not to say conservatives bad and liberals good by default. It is telling though how some people want to make rules, but then not follow them in their daily life. Look, all we ask is for consistent character growth!Lastly, We have a step in the right direction with a little bit of a ghost story. One that chills Christian Nationalism to the bone. A story that can only be told so very close to Halloween. There is a creature growing. A Secular Government Caucus that will stop at nothing to hunt down Christian Nationalism and stop them from ruining people's lives. They want to put a stop to “Project Blitz”. They want to keep gods out of public schools. Christian Nationalism GET OUT! The call is coming from within the Minnesota State Legislature!Segment 1: Portugal abuse cases mount amid questions over Nobel bishop AP via MSN | October 3, 2022 | By Barry Hattonhttps://bit.ly/3CZcYI0Segment 2: Iran's anti-veil protests draw on long history of resistanceAP | September 28, 2022 | By Amir-Hussein Radjyhttps://bit.ly/3MyToWcSegment 3: Bill Press: The gospel of Christian hypocrisyTribune Content Agency via MSN | October 6, 2022 | By Bill Press https://bit.ly/3EHaO15Segment 4: SITRD: MN lawmakers' ‘Secular Government Caucus' will combat Christian Nationalism Only Sky | October 5, 2022 | Hemant Mehtahttps://bit.ly/3EJHgjfDon't like ads? Legislators are first tackling less contentious issues, in order to prevent a government shutdown. GOP Senator Paul Gazelka says there is only so much Republicans will compromise on when it comes to policing.---Feven Gerezgiher reports:With just over a week left of budget negotiations in the special session of the Minnesota State Legislature, public safety is last on the agenda.Governor Walz said legislators are first tackling less contentious issues, in order to prevent a government shutdown.GOP Senator Paul Gazelka said there is only so much Republicans will compromise on when it comes to policing. “We don't think right now the message is really about police accountability, it's helping the police keep the streets safe,” said Gazelka, “and so that's why we really would rather wrap up right now and call it good.”Racial justice activists submitted over 65,000 signatures to the governor's office last week in support of reforms, stressing urgency for police accountability given recent high-profile killings.CAIR-MN's Mohamed Ibrahim said he is frustrated by the lack of action during a historic moment.“All we've seen is lip service, we've seen politicians show up to funerals, we've seen politicians say that they will demand for things to change, yet we don't see the change.”Ibrahim said it feels like police accountability efforts have lost ground.“What we need to do is we need to stop negotiating from Republican standpoints and actually hold the line and actually make sure that if we do not get any police accountability measures passed that are meaningful, that we do not compromise on anything,” he said. The state legislature needs to wrap up the special session by July 1 in order to avoid a government shutdown.

Michael Alexander is a professional witness. He also coaches others to serve as witnesses, whether professionally or in their own personal cases. He has won over one and a half billion dollars in awards and settlements for the citizens of California and Minnesota. He has also served as the coach for the Monterey Highlands Middle School Mock Trial team. That team has gone to the quarter and semi-finals for 4 years in a row. And, several of his students have won individual awards. Michael is an award winning public speaker. He has been a member of Toastmasters for over 26 years and was the winner of the 2016 Spirit of Excellence Award. He has delivered presentations to the American Asian Professionals Association, the Minnesota State Legislature, city councils and several universities. Michael's success is the result of good old fashion hard work, not luck or good genetics. His grandfather and both of his parents were involved in community theatre. Michael also enjoys theatre and his son is following in the family hobby. But he wasn’t born with a silver star in his dressing room. He spent as much time backstage as on-stage and had to study both to get good at them. He studied storytelling with the Chicago Storytellers Association. As noted before, he put in his time studying with Toastmasters. And, of course, his Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota was not handed to him either. Michael also juggles, rides motorcycles, SCUBA dives, and eats fire. You can find Michael on line at www.AlexanderTalks.com
