featured Wiki of the Day

fWotD Episode 2797: Minneapolis Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 31 December 2024 is Minneapolis.Minneapolis is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States, and its county seat. With a population of 429,954, it is the state's most populous city as of the 2020 census. Located in the state's center near the eastern border, it occupies both banks of the Upper Mississippi River and adjoins Saint Paul, the state capital of Minnesota. Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the surrounding area are collectively known as the Twin Cities, a metropolitan area with 3.69 million residents. Minneapolis is built on an artesian aquifer on flat terrain and is known for cold, snowy winters and hot, humid summers. Nicknamed the "City of Lakes", Minneapolis is abundant in water, with thirteen lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks, and waterfalls. The city's public park system is connected by the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway.Dakota people originally inhabited the site of today's Minneapolis. European colonization and settlement began north of Fort Snelling along Saint Anthony Falls—the only natural waterfall on the Mississippi River. Location near the fort and the falls' power—with its potential for industrial activity—fostered the city's early growth. For a time in the 19th century, Minneapolis was the lumber and flour milling capital of the world, and as home to the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, it has preserved its financial clout into the 21st century. A Minneapolis Depression-era labor strike brought about federal worker protections. Work in Minneapolis contributed to the computing industry, and the city is the birthplace of General Mills, the Pillsbury brand, Target Corporation, and Thermo King mobile refrigeration. The city's major arts institutions include the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Walker Art Center, and the Guthrie Theater. Four professional sports teams play downtown. Prince is survived by his favorite venue, the First Avenue nightclub. Minneapolis is home to the University of Minnesota's main campus. The city's public transport is provided by Metro Transit, and the international airport, serving the Twin Cities region, is located towards the south on the city limits.Residents adhere to more than fifty religions. Despite its well-regarded quality of life, Minneapolis has stark disparities among its residents—arguably the most critical issue confronting the city in the 21st century. Governed by a mayor-council system, Minneapolis has a political landscape dominated by the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), with Jacob Frey serving as mayor since 2018.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:31 UTC on Tuesday, 31 December 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Minneapolis on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Joanna.

Job openings remain strong, what does that mean for our economy? The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, also known as the JOLTs Report, showed job openings of 7.74 million in the month of October topped expectations of 7.5 million and increased from September's reading of 7.4 million. While it was nice to see the increase, I wouldn't be surprised to see job openings decline further from here. Openings peaked in March 2022 at over 12 million and have been on the decline since then. While that may sound problematic, these numbers were greatly distorted by the Covid shutdown and then the reopening that followed. We had never seen more than 8 million job openings pre Covid and at the peak there were more than two job openings for every available worker. We still have a very healthy labor market considering there are still 1.1 available positions for every unemployed worker. I would actually say the labor market is in an even healthier place at this point in time. With the excessive amount of openings, we saw a lot of employee turnover and quits which I believe led to elevated wage inflation. The labor market is much more balanced at this point in time, which should lead to less concerns over wage inflation. This should then be positive for the overall inflation rate which the Fed has been battling the last couple of years now.   The labor market continues to produce strong results! November payrolls showed a very nice increase of 227,000, which topped the estimate of 214,000. The two prior months also saw positive revisions with October now showing gains of 36,000 versus 12,000 and September showing an impressive growth of 255,000 versus 223,000. While the November gain may look quite strong, it's important to put this in perspective and pair it with the weak October report. October was challenged as it was held back by impacts from Hurricane Milton and the Boeing strike. This essentially reduced the jobs in the October report and added them to the November report. If we instead look at an average of October and November, we would then see growth of 131,500, which is still strong but not nearly as impressive as the November headline number. Areas of strength in the report included health care and social assistance which was up 72,300, leisure and hospitality which was up 53,000, and government which was up 33,000. While the government number includes state, local, and federal, I am curious to see what these numbers look like next year with Elon Musk and DOGE taking a closer look at government spending. Instead of consistent gains from this sector, we could potentially see a decline in payrolls. Utilities which saw a decline of 100 and retail trade which saw a decline of 28,000 were the only areas that produced a negative result in the month. I was surprised to see retail trade on the list considering the busy holiday season, but it is believed the later Thanksgiving holiday had a big impact. With the report largely in line, expectations for a Fed rate cut jumped to nearly 90% when they meet on December 17th and 18th. At this point, I would be very surprised if they didn't do a quarter point cut at that meeting. I do believe after that cut though, there could be a pause until we see further data.   Holiday spending is looking positive We have now been seeing predictions for what spending will look like for the holiday season. It's no surprise to me those numbers are looking pretty good with estimates for spending to increase somewhere between 3.8 and 4%. These estimates should be confirmed or may even be a little light with the success of the post-Thanksgiving deals. Data from Mastercard showed Black Friday retail sales, excluding automotive, increased 3.4% compared to last year. This came with a huge increase of 14.69% for online shopping compared to an increase of just 0.7% for in-store sales. According to Adobe Analytics, Cyber Monday then set a record with $13.3 billion of sales. This was an increase of 7.3% compared to last year. Overall, Adobe Analytics showed online spending for the Cyber Five rose 8.2% year over year to $41.1 billion. The spending looks good for a few different reasons. First, the election is finally over. Based on what I was reading, I believe people really stopped spending because of their uncertainty of what direction they thought our country would be heading. Now that the election is over, consumers are benefiting from and feeling good about a strong stock market that has done well this year and we still seem to be getting some price appreciation on our homes. According to the conference board, their recent report showed the strongest monthly gain in consumer confidence in over three years. We will continue to keep you informed and updated on holiday spending, but based on what I'm seeing I do expect consumer spending for the holiday season to have a strong increase from last year and perhaps when we see the real numbers in January, they could come in higher than those estimates!    Trading stocks 24 hours a day is coming soon! With technology today I believe it will definitely happen, but the question is when? I think a more important question is do we really want it? Currently the market trades from 9:30 in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon Eastern standard time. There is also currently low volume in after-hours trading. Companies like Robinhood and even Charles Schwab allow for trading of some equities after hours in a lite market. I have been managing money now for over 40 years and I've seen the good and the bad. What worries me is this could become too much stress for some people to handle. I can see people waking up at 2 o'clock in the morning to check to see whether their stock is trading up or down and this could become a regular habit which could happen anytime at night. It would also allow people to make impulsive decisions since you have your phone with you 24 hours a day. Once that trade is made it's done in terms of its financial impact but will you then worry about it and not be able to sleep? Investing can cause a toll on your emotions and I think having that break from 4 PM until the next morning at 9:30 gives your body and mind an emotional break. If you're a trader and you're gambling you probably don't care much about reading the news or digesting the most recent earnings release before making any financial decisions, but if you are a true investor and you invest for the longer term you don't need 24 hours a day to trade. You will use the break to read and analyze your decisions because you want to do your research before buying or selling. Be careful what you wish for!   Tax Problems with Overconcentrated Portfolios We've seen many cases where someone has a lot of unrealized capital gains in a taxable investment account and they are afraid to sell anything because they don't want to pay taxes.  This is more common with older people because they might have bought something decades ago that has appreciated substantially.  Because of this appreciation, one position or a small number of positions may make up the majority of their entire portfolio resulting in a lack of diversification and a much higher level of risk. In turn they feel backed into a corner because selling results in taxes but holding continues the investment risk. There are many ways to deal with this such as charitable remainder trusts or collar strategies, but before any of that it is important to understand what that tax impact actually is, because in many cases it is not as bad as people think. Selling a long-term investment result in a capital gain which is reportable income, but long-term capital gains are taxed at lower rates than ordinary income like wages or IRA withdrawals.  In many cases, that tax rate can be as low as 0%.  For an elderly married couple who claims the standard deduction, if their total income, including long-term capital gains, is less than $126,350, those gains are taxed at 0%.  If their income exceeds that level, only the capital gains above the threshold are taxed at the higher rate of 15%. This is important to know because we've spoken with people who have some social security income, maybe some RMDs, and a little interest income, but their adjusted gross income is only $80,000 and they are worried about selling stock and paying taxes on gains.  What they don't realize is they can handle over $46,000 of additional capital gains without paying any federal income taxes on them.  They may be perpetually carrying an unnecessary level of risk in their overconcentrated investment portfolio because they are so worried about taxes when they have the ability to liquidate and diversify a portion of their portfolio every year tax free.  By better understanding their tax situation, they can be more informed about making investment decisions.   Companies Discussed: Intel Corporation (INTC), Target Corporation (TGT), The Gap, Inc. Last week, Target Corporation announced disappointing sales growth for its 3rd Quarter of 2024. This was just another hint at a broader U.S. consumer slowdown or cooling. While spending forecasts aren't dire, how much fuel does the average American household have in the tank to propel the upcoming holiday shopping season? Will it be merry and bright for retailers? Or will Santa be leaving coal in their stockings?   In this week's Trading Perspectives, Sam Clement and John Norris discuss the upcoming holiday shopping season, and whether the U.S. consumer can continue to spend money at the same pace it has.

Could An Accidental Find in The Amazon Be The Holy Grail Solution to Acne & Anti Aging ?

Has Matty Schirle Really Created Self Esteem In a Bottle? If you read the reviews of Matty Schirles' SkinKick line of skincare you might think they actually have created self esteem in a bottle. And You Likely Be Intrigued by an accidental finding in in Amazon by a scientist who went there for another reason   People are amazed at how quickly these Skinkick products clear their skin problems. We're talking blemishes, acne, acne scars and rosacea. Pretty much any skin condition that might make a person not feel so thrilled about their looks.  Matty Schirle said,  “When we got into the acne or the blemish category, the very first 14-year-old woman who used it stood up and said, we changed her life and she said you need to call it self-esteem in a bottle. That's basically because we deliver clear, healthy, glowing skin and the confidence that comes with that. And the beautiful thing is because we're natural, we can do that for problem skin and aging skin at the same time. “  Matty who is the Founder and CEO of SkinKick was a former Chemical Engineer. He and his SkinKick Chief Science Officer Dr. Bill Provance developed effective, simple and safe, Naturally Smart(R) formulas that are cruelty free and dermatologist approved clean and natural ingredients, from the nutrient rich Amazon Rainforest!   It's an Incredible story of SKIN CARE discovery FINDING BEAUTY IN THE BEAST  The Amazon is beautiful, but it's also dangerous. When SkinKick Chief Science Officer Dr. Bill Provance traveled to Brazil, he learned about a growing epidemic of parasitic diseases that plagued the native people. Not only did these parasites make people sick, but they also aggravated and inflamed the skin.  Armed with years of studying skin cell biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Dr. Provance began searching for a way to create a natural “second skin” that would prevent rainforest parasites from penetrating the skin and entering the body.   THE A-HA MOMENT  Dr. Provance carefully tested a variety of botanicals on the skin of Brazil's native people. What he didn't expect to find was that all of the formulations he tested had a common result: overall improvement and appearance of the skin. He soon discovered that these formulations were leaving the skin smooth, hydrated, and clear. That's when Dr. Provance had an ah-ha moment. If this “second skin” could clear and beautify the skin of native Brazilians, perhaps it could do the same for others?   That got Matty Shirle's attention, and he then applied his knowledge and know-how to the findings from his 20+ years in the high technology semiconductor industry (computer chips). His mission was to figure out how to eliminate man-made chemicals including harsh acids that destroy the natural skin microbiome.  Dr. Provance and the SkinKick team began working on developing a skincare line that used the same natural ingredients to clear blemishes and renew the skin And SkinKick was born.  Matty said,   "Well Dr. Bill studied at UT Southwest Med Center here in Dallas and he took a job at the Viacruz Institute which is like the Harvard of Brazil. And so he, even though I'm a chemical engineer, you can move his IQs a few decimal points over from mine. He's just absolutely brilliant." "They had an issue with parasites entering the skin. And the fundamental start of this is when they thought he was going to come up with a vaccine. And what he did is identified a botanical that if you rub it on your arm, it keeps the parasites, like a mosquito or whatever it is, you know, small things from entering your skin." "Well, he flew back to Dallas and told the story of how he blocked the parasites, but he said, oh, by the way, that film that I rubbed on, you know, on your skin, it holds moisture under it."  And right off the bat, the lights go off, because the number one issue with aging, regardless of what you've been told, is that the skin cell can no longer hold as much moisture as it did when you were younger. And therefore, less moisture, once it goes down, then the collagen protein has a hard time surviving and it snaps and breaks and it loses its rigidity which is holding the cell up and that's what starts aging. We started as an anti-aging company but it's a skin renewal company and now we have clinical trials with all our key ingredients right out of the Amazon rainforest.” "These natural nutrients somehow clear, renew and protect the skin at the same time! “  Matty says Skinkick's naturally smart formulas are designed for all ages, genders and skin types even those with sensitive skin so everyone can have clear healthy and glowing skin. Their high-performance skincare clears, renews, and protects your skin without the use of harsh man-made chemicals typically found in popular brands. The secret is in their exclusive patent-protected technologies made with blends of supercharged botanicals. SkinKick even offers a ‘Happiness Guarantee' so that if you don't love your SkinKick order it's on them! So why aren't they everywhere?   They started to be, but Covid slammed them because Matty will admit he initially spent most of the money getting the brand into retail vs digital. A decision that's held them up. All entrepreneurial stories have their ups and downs… “I'm the chemical engineer that I can understand what Dr. Bill creates. But I'm not the creator I'm the guy that wrapped a P&L around this technology and brought it to market.” “We had an issue with driving the customer into the store. Well, didn't a lot of people have that issue during COVID? Yes. But anyhow, I take full responsibility with the digital marketing issue. Yep. I did not have the money to turn on both digital and retail. I focused on retail because Target Corporation incubated us right out of the gate in the Target takeoff incubator.” The brand landed on the shelves in Target and in CVS and Ulta beauty but without the marketing dollars nobody knew 'why' they should buy SkinKick among the giant number of skincare offerings.   Everybody Loves a Comeback Story “We had some snafu's and we're actually back in the gate getting funding. COVID literally knocked our wind out of us and almost knocked us over and almost killed us. But we're back, we're going to get funded and we're teed up ready to go."    Matty gets amazing testimonials every day in his email. He's driven to give everyone he can…self-esteem in a bottle of his SkinKick. I WAS DRIVEN to tell his story.   Thought some of you would like to know more about Matty Schirle and his SkinKick brand so I invited him to join The Debbie Nigro Show. Enjoy this podcast of our live conversation. PS I just ordered some to see for myself.

Target Corporation has laid open its latest earnings report with responses from the executive team led by CEO Brian Cornell. Throughout the earnings call, Mr. Cornell acknowledged the impact of soft industry trends, moderating inflation, and higher inventory shrink on the company's profit margin. Despite these headwinds, he also gave credence to an upturn in profitability compared to the previous year. This favorable change is credited to a holistic approach addressing different aspects of the business, including lower freight costs, stringent inventory management, a beneficial category and channel mix, and a continued commitment to enhance operational efficiency. On a brighter note, Target's financial recovery journey exhibits a notably healthy upswing in the first three quarters of 2023. According to the company's released figures, the Earnings Per Share (EPS) represented a growth of more than 40% when contrasted with the same period in the prior year. More impressively, it marked over a 26% surge against the 2019 statistics. The company attributes such a bullish picture to a combination of strategic initiatives including the streamlining of freight expenses, adherence to disciplined inventory management, and a beneficial product and distribution channel mix. Nonetheless, Target conceded certain challenging scenarios that acted as a drag on the journey to its current successful standing. In the earnings call, Target admitted to certain industry shifts that fostered a downtrend in comparable sales, particularly within discretionary categories. On a strategic note, Target has stayed firm on enhancing customer engagement and boosting buyer experiences. Evident in their investment allocation, the brand intends to fortify its physical store experience, upskill team members, enhance digital capabilities and offer a more diverse product range. Striving to bring value, convenience, and innovation, Target has embraced changes by introducing novel same-day service options such as drive-ups, aligning with the ever-evolving customer lifestyle trends. Looking ahead, the Minneapolis based retailer appears focused on expanding its reach and product appeal. In the pipeline are robust investments that are anticipated to beef up the brick and mortar store infrastructure, invest in team development, bolster digital capabilities, and broaden the product portfolio. Drawing from this strategy, Target remains optimistic about driving growth and maintaining strong customer footfall across all platforms. The much awaited holiday season adds to the fervor as the company plans to deliver value, inspire with product assortments, and deliver unmatched joyful shopping experiences. In sum, the retail environment is evolving at a fast pace, molding companies to accommodate changing customer expectations resulted by swift digital advancements. Amid such times, Target's dedication to the ongoing elevation of customer experiences, commitment to bolstering efficiencies, along with leveraging its robust and diversified product offerings is indicative of the brand's resilience and adaptive longevity. It serves as a practical case study for a multitude of professionals; those encompassing marketing, operations, retail, sales, and innovation fields, to learn from. Today I open with a reminder of what I discussed on Friday when I was filling in for The Erick Erickson Show – Dr. Mandy Cohen is being tapped as the new Director of the CDC. One :30 second sound bite from her, combined with the White House write-up, is all you need to know to realize this Administration is continuing to weaponize every part of the Executive Branch. We then move to more emails being released through lawsuits, which reveal the ongoing pay-to-play schemes that have been surrounding Joe Biden while he was the Vice President during the Obama administration. America First Legal released several of the emails and, though many were redacted, reveal a pattern of Joe Biden and his staff being intimately aware of his son's, Hunter Biden's, business dealings and partners. This rolls right into the ongoing fight between Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and the Christopher Wray, Director of the FBI, over the document revealing a bribery scheme involving Joe Biden. Supposedly, today is the day the committee is going to gain access to the document, but I'm not holding my breath. Technically, we already know who the whistleblower is and what he's said. I told you about Mike McCormick back on April 12, 2023. He had been an official White House stenographer in the Obama regime. It wasn't until the Hunter Biden laptop documents began to be released online that he was able to connect some dots and realized a crime had taken place right in front of his own eyes. Mike McCormick wants to testify about what he knows and everything he mentions is likely corroborated in that very document the FBI is trying to keep hidden. It all deals with money laundering through Ukraine at the very moment Hunter was brought on board with the energy company Burisma. It's the very subject that got President Donald Trump impeached the first time – his inquiry into corruption in Ukraine. Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) discussed some of the work he and his committee are doing related to both the January 6th Committee and to the even on January 6 itself. As you already knew from listening to me, the J6 Committee was nothing more than a staged reality TV show. What this committee is doing is hopefully exposing that partisan agenda, while also diving into the failures that did lead to some protesters escalating to a mini-riot. Finally, we need to expose Target Corporation for being more than just swept up in transgenderism or Pride month. They are fully embracing the Woke movement, which, as I stated to you in early May, is the same thing as Marxism. After diving into the agendas being supported by Target, I share with you a parody song from my good friend, Jim Gossett. The Devil Went Down to Target is a perfect way to wrap-up today's show. This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Wednesday, May 24th, 2023. https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/who-warns-unusual-surge-severe-myocarditis-babies WHO Warns Of 'Unusual' Surge in Severe Myocarditis in Babies On Tuesday, the WHO issued an alert that there had been a rise in “severe myocarditis” in newborns and infants between June 2022 and March 2023 in Wales and England. It said that this was associated with the enterovirus infection, which rarely affects the heart. A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) spokesperson confirmed to The Epoch Times that 10 babies have been diagnosed in Wales and five have been diagnosed in England. The WHO said that “although enterovirus infections are common in neonates and young infants, the reported increase in myocarditis with severe outcomes in neonates and infants associated with enterovirus infection is unusual.” It said that in the same hospital (covering the South Wales region) over the previous six years, “only one other similar case has been identified.” WHO assessed the public health risk as low, but added that in certain situations, it “may be advisable to close child-care facilities and schools to reduce the intensity of transmission.” However, the WHO took down the alert on Wednesday. The Epoch Times understands that this could be because some of the numbers were not correct. The WHO did not respond to The Epoch Times’ request for comment. Dr. Shamez Ladhani, Consultant Paediatrician at UKHSA, told The Epoch Times by email that “given a higher than average number of cases in Wales in the autumn/winter months in very young babies, UKHSA is investigating the situation in England to see if any similar cases have been observed here and whether there are any factors driving the increase in cases.” The UKHSA did not respond to questions about ruling out any links to the effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. Public Health Wales at the start of May announced that it was investigating a cluster of severe enterovirus infections with myocarditis occurring in very young babies from the South Wales region. The cases occurred from June 2022 with a peak in November 2022 involving babies under 28 days old. Ten babies have developed myocarditis within this cluster. One baby remains in hospital, eight are being managed as outpatients, and one baby has died. Consultant pathologist and HART member Dr. Clare Craig told The Epoch Times that there’s “a massive question about whether or not these babies or the mums are vaccinated.” HART is an organisation that was set up to share concerns about policy and guidance recommendations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/community-family/nebraska-governor-signs-ban-abortion-and-child-transitions Nebraska governor signs ban on abortion and child transitions Nebraska became the latest state to enact bans on abortion and child gender transitions as Gov. Jim Pillen (R-NE) signed a dual measure Monday afternoon. Nebraska 's legislature passed the measure Friday, which will prohibit abortion at 12 weeks of pregnancy and ban genital and nongenital mutilation surgeries on children. The bill also gives the state's chief medical officer, Dr. Timothy Tesmer, the authority to determine restrictions on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Pillen called child gender transitions "Lucifer at its finest" at the signing ceremony. "All children deserve a chance to grow and live happy, fruitful lives," Pillen said in a press release before the signing. "This includes pre-born boys and girls, and it includes children struggling with their gender identity. These kids deserve the opportunity to grow and explore who they are and want to be, and they can do so without making irreversible decisions that should be made when they are fully grown." While the abortion ban goes into effect immediately upon Pillen's signature, the ban on transgender procedures will go into effect on Oct. 1. The abortion ban includes exceptions for rape, incest, and instances in which the life of the mother is at risk. Eighty-six percent of abortions in Nebraska occur before 12 weeks, according to state statistics. Primary sponsor state Sen. Joni Albrecht, fighting through tears, said, "I look forward to the day when every child is protected from elective abortions in our state." Nebraska joins a growing list of states that have passed abortion restrictions since the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Twenty-seven states have attempted to pass such laws, but some states have been either held up by courts or hindered by a divided government. Last week, North Carolina and South Carolina took action to restrict abortion. From Nebraska to Texas we go… https://townhall.com/tipsheet/madelineleesman/2023/05/23/texas-bans-diversity-offices-at-colleges-n2623589 Texas Moves a Step Closer to Banning Diversity Programs in Higher Education On Monday, Texas lawmakers passed a bill to end Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs at state colleges and universities. If the bill were to become law, it would be the second state in the nation with such legislation, following Florida. According to The Hill, the measure requires the governors of each state university to ensure that there is no DEI office at the school and that preferential treatment is not given for “diversity hires.” Rep. John Kuempel, a Republican, said that “DEI is present in some form in almost every Texas campus” and that schools “must recruit the best people in every field regardless of race and gender,” according to the Dallas Morning News. The Texas House voted 83-60 in support of S.B. 17. The legislation heads back to the Senate, where it will decide to accept or deny changes made by members of the House. Last month, when the Senate passed its version of the bill, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick described the legislation as the “strongest pushback on woke policies in higher education.” “For far too long, academia has been poisoned by woke policies and faculty seeking to indoctrinate our students. Professors did not believe we would push back on their advances, but they were wrong. Students should be taught how to think critically, not what to think," Patrick said in a statement. https://freebeacon.com/energy/majority-of-united-states-faces-elevated-risk-of-summer-power-blackouts-amid-green-energy-push/ Majority of United States Faces 'Elevated Risk' of Summer Power Blackouts Amid Green Energy Push America's increased reliance on green energy in favor of coal and gas has a majority of the United States facing an "elevated risk" of summer power blackouts, according to a leading grid reliability watchdog. The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) last week published its 2023 summer reliability assessment, which found that two-thirds of North America could face power shortages this summer during periods of extreme heat. That vulnerability, the watchdog group said, stems from America's increase in green power generation and decrease in fossil fuel power plants. While coal and natural gas plants can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch, green alternatives such as wind and solar rely on favorable weather conditions to operate at full capacity. If those conditions aren't met, power demand can outpace supply. "The system is closer to the edge," NERC director of reliability assessment and performance analysis John Moura said last week. "More needs to be done." Moura is far from the only expert sounding the alarm on America's unreliable power grid. Both state and federal officials in recent weeks have warned that high summer temperatures, combined with low nightly winds, could bring power blackouts across the country. "I'm afraid to say it, but I think the United States is heading towards a catastrophic situation," Federal Energy Regulatory Commission member Mark Christie said during a May Senate hearing. Despite those warnings, President Joe Biden has moved forward with plans to accelerate U.S. coal plant retirements. With nearly half of America's coal power already set to disappear by 2030, Biden's Environmental Protection Agency earlier this month unveiled new standards that force coal and gas power plants to slash their carbon emissions by a whopping 90 percent between 2035 and 2040. In order to meet the near-impossible standards, those plants will have to spend big on infrastructure upgrades—costs that may prompt the plants to shut down rather than comply. "Coal is more than five times as dependable as wind and more than twice as dependable as solar when electricity demand is greatest," America's Power CEO Michelle Bloodworth said in a statement, "yet bad public policy and EPA regulations are forcing the closure of coal plants." In addition to his far-reaching fossil fuel regulations, Biden has spent hundreds of billions of dollars on tax breaks and subsidies aimed at increasing electric car use. And in April, Biden's Environmental Protection Agency announced a new rule that imposes strict tailpipe emission limits on vehicles sold—so strict that it effectively forces automakers to ensure that two-thirds of the cars they sell are electric by 2032. Those moves could also put strain on the nation's power grid. As more Americans plug in their cars instead of filling them up with gasoline, grids across the country will need to put out more power to keep up. The issue has already plagued some U.S. states—in September, for example, California urged electric car drivers to stop charging their vehicles due to power grid strain. Still, the ordeal did not stop state officials from moving full steam ahead with plans to outlaw gas-powered vehicles and eradicate fossil fuel power plants. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/house/mccarthy-warns-nowhere-near-deal-on-debt-ceiling McCarthy warns White House and GOP ‘nowhere near a deal’ on debt ceiling House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) warned Republican lawmakers that his team is “nowhere near a deal” with the White House on the debt ceiling, ramping up pressure on President Joe Biden just nine days before the default deadline. In a closed-door meeting with GOP lawmakers on Tuesday, McCarthy told members a compromise on the debt ceiling was still far off, reiterating his position that he would not increase spending or raise the debt ceiling without conditions. Republicans emerged from the meeting wary of negotiators’ progress, telling reporters the talks are not going well so far. As part of the negotiations, the White House proposed late last week to limit next year’s spending to 2023 levels — an idea that was rejected by Republicans, who wish to return to 2022 levels. McHenry and Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA), the top negotiators for McCarthy, emphasized that stance on Tuesday by calling on the White House to agree to cut spending. Meanwhile, some Republicans remain skeptical of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s warnings that the country could default on its payments as soon as June 1, calling that date a manufactured deadline set by the Biden administration to accelerate a deal. Gaetz argued the United States is not at risk of missing its payments, noting the country has strong revenue that will continue coming in over the next few weeks. Instead, the Florida Republican said Yellen should appear before Congress to present “receipts and deposits” that prove the country is on track to default. McCarthy’s warning comes after the speaker met with Biden on Monday evening, marking the third meeting the two have held since restarting negotiations earlier this month. McCarthy called the meeting “productive” but noted the two are still far apart on finalizing a deal. Now for the rundown… https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-suspect-in-custody-after-allegedly-crashing-u-haul-truck-into-barriers-near-white-house?utm_campaign=64487 On Monday night, the driver of a U-Haul truck was taken into custody after allegedly slamming into security barriers near the White House. According to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi, the truck crashed on the northern side of Lafayette Square at around 10 pm. Guglielmi said in a statement, "Shortly before 10:00 p.m. Monday, Secret Service Uniformed Division officers detained the driver of a box truck after the vehicle collided with security barriers on the north side of Lafayette Square at 16th Street." He added that there were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel and that the crash is under investigation but that the preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have intentionally crashed into the barriers. https://thepostmillennial.com/uc-berkeley-holds-segregated-graduation-ceremony-for-black-students-only?utm_campaign=64487 The University of California Berkeley hosted a black-only graduation ceremony for its non-white students at Zellerbach Hall on Saturday. In March, UC Berkeley’s African American Studies Department announced they would be holding their annual “Black Graduation” ceremony for students in May. According to the announcement, “The Department of African American Studies plans on hosting our annual Black Graduation ceremony, which is open to all majors and degree programs across the campus." https://twitter.com/i/status/1660362211636969473 - Play Video https://redstate.com/mike_miller/2023/05/22/super-woke-target-partners-on-its-new-gay-pride-line-with-designer-who-insists-satan-loves-you-n749804 So let’s check them off. By “them,” I mean just the latest corporations to put their “woke” beliefs ahead of customer loyalty, profits, and shareholders: Disney, Nike, Bud Light, BlackRock, Ford, and Miller Lite. The complete list is long — and it just got longer with the addition of the super-woke Target Corporation. Target has partnered with UK-based Satanist designer Abprallen on its new “Pride” collection, which features a “Cure Transphobia” sweatshirt, which bears the message “Cure transphobia, not trans people,” and other related items. Did I mention that Abprallen insists “Satan loves you,” “Satan respects pronouns,” and other uplifting [sarc] trash for your shopping pleasure? As reported by Breitbart, Abprallen mixes its affinity for satanism with its pro-LGBT activism, boasting on its Instagram page: “Satan loves you and respects who you are; you’re important and valuable in this world and you deserve to treat yourself with love and respect.”

Today's show opens with a discussion of the problems the Target Corporation is facing with their new lines of children's swimwear. If you haven't kept track, in a move to virtue-signal their support and incorporation of transgenderism, Target has lines of ladies swimwear with crotch pockets so boys can “tuck” their junk away while they pretend they are girls. And for the confused girls out there, Target now has a line of clothing with chest-binders built into them. What's even worse is who Target partnered with for the line of clothing. Target partnered with Abprallen – a Satanic designer with aggressive anti-heterosexual messaging. In other words, beyond the horror of aligning with Satan, they are against normal, heterosexual relationships, to believing in only two sexes to condoning putting people to death who don't fully submit to the transgenderism movement. Yet, Target may have be the victim of the World Economic Forum's push of their ESG Scorecards. Yes, in an effort to avoid being targeted (pun intended) by the extreme Left, Target has chosen to embrace all things Environmental, Social and Governance. By choosing to embrace the ridiculous notions of ESG, which includes blind obedience to DEI. Every time a business chooses to go woke, at some point, it's going to lead them to go broke. It's the cycle and yet they continue to bow to the pressure. Maybe the reason goes back to something Rush Limbaugh once had to investigate. While it may look like hundreds of thousands of people are organized in a boycott, more often than not, it's likely a handful of people who create bots and programming to fool the world. Basically, they create their own narratives and then create a fake army to threaten businesses. Unfortunately, businesses continue to be fooled by the fakery. Look at what happened to the Bud Light brand? The Left has developed a playbook that can be scaled to fit their target and they use it repeatedly. We just need more businesses to realize that. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed a resolution to censure, condemn and find Rep. Adam “Piece of” Schiff (D-CA) $16 million dollars. That's half of the cost we tax-payers paid for the investigations into the fake collusion story. In a hearing today, FBI Deputy Assistant Counterintelligence Director Jill Murphy said she did not read the Durham Report because she didn't have the time. She then said she prefers her allegiance to the FBI versus to the American people. That's stunning! Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) made a clown of himself during a presser, dressed in a hoodie and shorts, claims the 14th Amendment exists for the President to raise the debt ceiling. So, I have to take a moment to teach a bit of basic American Civics as it relates to that Amendment. Our eminently qualified White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre made a curious comment yesterday. She said President Joe Biden has been trying to engage with Republicans for MONTHS now as it relates to the debt ceiling. Funny, we seem to have two months of quotes from her saying Biden will not negotiate the topic of the debt ceiling. Finally, in a moment of levity, we need to bring you another installment of Deep Thoughts by VP Kamala Harris. She is such a gem. We are always stunned at her brilliance.
