Former Alaska State House Representative Kyle Johansen was first elected to represent his hometown of Ketchikan in 2006. Two years later he became the Majority Leader in the Republican-led House. After being re-elected as Majority Leader in 2010 he left the caucus in protest of a committee leadership decision which he now sees as a huge mistake – a mistake he continues to pay for years afterward, ultimately driving him in  2019 to relocate to Hawaii. In the 34th Legislature which starts this January, he will be returning to Alaska to staff my office in Juneau. Tony Coelho has spent his entire adult life helping advance the lives of people with disabilities. He calls this his “ministry”.  Congressman Steny Hoyer, former House Majority Leader, says that the disability community call him their “voice” and “champion.”Diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 22 years old, Tony's ministry is marked by significant milestones: primary author and sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — the most important piece of civil rights legislation in the last 40 years; advocating for the ratification of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities; and convincing President Bill Clinton to establish the Office of Disability Employment Policy at the U.S. Department of Labor.  Tony continued to advocate for civil rights for individuals with disabilities by convincing President Barack Obama to issue an executive order enforcing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requiring federal contractors and subcontractors to hire people with disabilities as they have been doing since 1973 for women and minorities.  He went on to work with the Biden White House to improve access to the internet for individuals who are blind, deaf, and physically impaired.Tony is a former six-term United States Congressman from California, elected in 1978 and serving until 1989. He served on the Agriculture, Interior, Veterans Affairs, and Administration Committees during his tenure, specializing in disability rights. In 1986, Tony was elected House Majority Whip, the third most powerful position in the House of Representatives.After leaving Congress, Tony joined Wertheim Schroder & Company, Inc., an investment-banking firm in New York, where he served as a Managing Director and then as President and CEO of Wertheim Schroder Investment Services, a firm that he grew from $400 million to $4 billion in managed investments. He formed ETC w/TCI, an education and training technology company in Washington, D.C., where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. STORY 2:   Two Women Arrested After Punching DFCS Employee, Kidnapping Children The Gwinnett County Police Department arrested two women, Starlita Moore and her daughter Teisha Schulters, for allegedly assaulting a Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) worker and kidnapping two children during a court-mandated visitation at a Lawrenceville trampoline park. Moore reportedly punched the DFCS worker and, with Schulters' help, took the children in a car. The vehicle was later stopped by Alabama State Patrol, recovering the children unharmed. Moore faces multiple charges, including kidnapping and battery, while Schulters is charged with kidnapping. The children are now in DFCS custody. STORY 3:  Georgia Gwinnett College Women's Soccer Wins Conference on PKs The Georgia Gwinnett College women's soccer team won the 2024 Continental Athletic Conference championship by defeating Bellevue University 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. This victory marks GGC's seventh conference title since 2017 and secures their eighth consecutive NAIA national tournament appearance. Junior Natalie Maguire scored the match-tying goal, and the team excelled in the penalty shootout, with key contributions from players like Pernilla Westergren and Thilde Engholm, who sealed the win. Now it will try again The Mulberry City Council postponed its first meeting after a candidate threatened legal action but plans to reconvene on Nov. 19. The council aims to appoint interim leaders and hire an attorney to defend against Gwinnett County's lawsuit challenging the city's formation. The meeting will address appointing a chairperson, interim mayor, and mayor pro tem, and adopting a meeting schedule. The council also plans to hire a lawyer before a Dec. 4 hearing. Mulberry will assume certain services from Gwinnett County upon its official incorporation on Jan. 1, 2025. The increased persecution appears to be bleeding over the border from India where Christians face high levels of persecution.  Hindu nationalists in India are now sending funds into Nepal, leading to more violence against Christians.  This has only made the work of Christian evangelism more dangerous across the country.  Argentina celebrates Evangelicals Last week, Argentina's Senate approved a law to make October 31 a National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches. The South American country is about 15% Evangelical and has over 25,000 Protestant churches. Christian Hooft is the President of the Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Republic of Argentina. He said, “To declare October 31 as the 'National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches' is to recognize the importance of this religious tradition in Argentinian history and society.” On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted his Ninety-five Theses on the door of the Catholic church in Wittenberg, Germany, objecting to the 95 ways the Catholic church had strayed from Biblical teaching. The conference noted the geographical shift in the center of Christianity. In 1900, 82% of Christians lived in the Global North across countries in North America and Europe. Now, 67% of Christians live in the Global South across countries in South America, Africa, and Asia. Plus, 44% of Protestants now hail from Africa. Psalm 22:27-28 says, “All the ends of the Earth shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. For kingship belongs to the LORD, and He rules over the nations.” Biden signed $95 billion foreign aid bill In the United States, the Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill yesterday. President Joe Biden signed it within hours of passing. The package gives $60 billion to Ukraine, $26 billion to Israel, and $8 billion to U.S. partners in the Indo-Pacific like Taiwan. The legislation also moved to ban TikTok, a social media app owned by a Chinese parent company. The United States is giving the company a year to sell the app or it will be banned in America. Supreme Court hears another abortion case Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in an another abortion case. The Biden administration is challenging Idaho's law banning nearly all abortions. The administration is trying to argue that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act allows abortions in medical emergencies. However, justices appeared skeptical that state abortion bans violate the federal law. A decision is expected in June. More Americans cannot retire A new survey from the American Association of Retired Persons found about a quarter of U.S. adults do not think they will be able to retire. Many older Americans are staying in the work force due to a lack of retirement savings.  AARP noted, “Everyday expenses continue to be the top barrier to saving more for retirement, and some older Americans say that they never expect to retire.” Proverbs 23:5 says of toiling for wealth, “When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward Heaven.” Tennessee Governor bans discriminatory de-banking Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee signed a bill recently to ban discriminatory de-banking. The law prohibits major banks and insurance companies from closing someone's account simply for their political or religious views. Tennessee State Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson said, “We will not allow big corporate banks to … discriminate against consumers for their religious or political views. This troubling trend will not be tolerated in Tennessee.” House Majority Leader gives glory to God And finally, the U.S. House Majority Leader gave glory to God in a recent interview. Steve Scalise, the Republican Congressional leader from Louisiana, returned to the House in February after battling blood cancer. During a Tuesday interview on EWTN News Nightly, he said the cancer is in remission. SCALISE: “For so many people that are watching that said prayers and offered just true, genuine support, I can't thank everybody enough. BEST OF: A recent June 7, 2023, report from the Wall Street Journal, Stanford University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst found that Instagram's recommendation algorithms literally support pedophile networks. Many accounts offer menus of content to buy, including material on self-harm and bestiality. Instagram's brother WhatsApp has especially promoted self-harm as it was the hub of internet memes encouraging such behavior and harm to others too. Meta owns both companies and Facebook. Microsoft's Bing search engine does the exact same thing, though, according to a report by TechCrunch in 2019. Their investigation with AntiToxin found that Bing outright suggests child sexual abuse content, and they went on to say that “even people not seeking this kind of disgusting imagery could be led to it by Bing.” Bing's Similar Images feature will also suggest additional illegal child abuse imagery. The 2023 report found that Twitter was slightly better than Instagram, and that TikTok and SnapChat did not actively promote networks of pedophiles. However, the latter two companies are so addictive and harmful that they have literally mind-wiped and reprogramed people, young girls in particular. Harvard University reported that these girls develop mimicry and sociogenic illness. In reality they are developing “involuntary movements and vocalizations,” something akin to Tourette syndrome.These platforms are also highly influential that they are literally programming an entire generation to have certain political views, sexual and gender identities, and as per a recent report from the Cato Institute to support government cameras in their homes. As Sean Parker said about Facebook, it was manufactured to exploit “a vulnerability in human psychology.” And as Tom DeLay, former House Majority Leader, said the Justice Department drafted a memo that advocates for 12 perversions such as bestiality, polygamy, pedophilia.

After last week's House leadership shake-up, Republicans have chosen a new majority leader. How much might that impact pending legislation that hits the floor? This week, Rep. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been marked down in history, following his impeachment through a nail-biting vote by the House of Representatives. This is the first time a cabinet member has been subjected to the impeachment process in more than a century. Several members of the Republican party blame Secretary Mayorkas for an unmatched wave of immigrants at the US-Mexico border. The push for impeachment was led by Republicans in the House, culminating in a tense vote tally of 214 in favor versus 213 against. This successful vote follows an earlier attempt to impeach the Secretary that fell flat. With the House's decision, the process will now proceed to the Senate for an impeachment trial. The opposing sides of the vote were predominantly divided along party lines - of the total, 210 Democrats voiced their opposition to the impeachment action. The Democrat tally was supplemented by dissent from three of their Republican colleagues: Tom McClintock hailing from California, Ken Buck of Colorado and Wisconsin's Mike Gallagher. This trio of Republican 'defectors' also rejected the preceding attempt to impeach Secretary Mayorkas. Yet, the need for tighter border control remains a polarizing topic for the populace. Since the commencement of 2021, unauthorized entry into the US by more than 6.3 million migrants has fueled politically charged debates, especially as the November election looms. Critics of the current administration, under President Joe Biden, have taken issue with Secretary Mayorkas, claiming he falls short of his sworn commitment to 'well and faithfully discharge the duties' of his office, particularly where border security is concerned. These claims are vehemently rebuffed by Democrats and by members of the Biden-led administration. Throughout a pair of hearings in January, Republicans, obstinate in their stand, held Secretary Mayorkas responsible for his perceived negligence in implementing existing immigration policies, and for his alleged misrepresentation of the security conditions at the border. Worth noting, however, is that the Secretary did not present any testimony at these hearings. Earlier, an initial try at impeaching the Secretary was narrowly unsuccessful, falling short by the count of three votes. These votes belonged to Republicans Ken Buck, Mike Gallagher, and Tom McClintock, each of whom opted against the impeachment. A unique occasion arose when Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas made his surprise appearance at the chamber, clothed in hospital attire, so as to cast his vote against the impeachment. Earlier, he had been rushed into an emergency room for surgical procedures. Nevertheless, his commitment to his assembly responsibilities became palpable. The scenario this Tuesday, however, revealed a different setting from the House Majority Leader, Steve Scalise's point of view. After an absence due to ongoing cancer treatment during the last vote, Scalise rejoined the plenary session, thereby providing the Republicans with the impetus they needed for a successful impeachment vote. Outlined within the pages of the US Constitution is the impeachment process - marking the initial step towards the expulsion of a federal official due to high crimes or misdemeanors. The impeachment ride can be arduous, requiring a simple majority in the House comprising 435 members, and an even more challenging two-thirds majority in the Senate, which houses a 100-member assembly. While this hurdle of securing a majority in favor has been surpassed in the House, the journey of impeachment is far from over. The middle ground of the Senate shall be a challenging terrain given its Democrat majority, which is expected to vote against the impeachment of Mayorkas. The most recent case of a cabinet secretary facing impeachment was William Belknap, the then Secretary of War, in the year 1876. Though he resigned prior to the commencement of the vote, the echoes of that historic event resonate with the unfolding of current events. Alongside this political tension, the American public's concern continues to be amplified with respect to the immigration issue and, more specifically, the handling of border control by the administration. Research conducted by CBS in January - a US partner of the BBC - indicated that approximately half of the US citizens consider the situation at the border to be reaching crisis proportions. Moreover, this research surfaced that the public sentiment favors stricter immigration--63% of those surveyed proposed that the current administration should incline towards 'tougher' policies. In conclusion, the vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the ensuing allegations, and the consistent increase of migrants at the U.S. border, illustrate the high-stakes contentiousness of today's political scene. Yet, it is democracy in action, that continues to validate the essence of America, even amidst its contentious discourses.
