Check out Dr. Mina's top picks for skin care here. Download the free eBook 'Skincare Myths Busted' here. In this episode, Dr. Mina and Dr. Zain Husain talk about what it takes to keep your skin healthy. They cover the importance of sun protection, good lifestyle habits, and how social media influences the way we see skin. They also discuss common skincare mistakes, must-have products, and how in-office treatments can help. The conversation highlights the need for personalized skincare routines and the benefits of seeing a board-certified dermatologist for the best results. Tune in to this week's podcast with Dr. Zain Husain as he breaks down what ‘healthy' skin really means, why it's important, and how to achieve it. He also covers common mistakes, his go-to procedures, and his top 3 takeaways for achieving healthy, glowing skin! Key Takeaways: - Healthy skin is defined by multiple factors, not just aesthetics. - Sun protection is crucial for preventing skin damage and disease. - Diet, antioxidants, and lifestyle choices significantly impact skin health. - Avoid following skincare trends blindly; consult a dermatologist for personalized advice. - Overusing products can harm the skin barrier; less is often more. - Essential skincare includes sunscreen, a good cleanser, and vitamin C serum. - In-office procedures can enhance skin health but should be approached conservatively. - Social media can create unrealistic beauty standards that affect self-esteem. - It's important to recognize that perfection in skin is not achievable or necessary. - Regular consultations with dermatologists can lead to better skincare outcomes. Dr. Zain Husain, MD, FAAD is a dual board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon, fellowship-trained in cosmetic dermatology. He began his medical education when he was accepted into the highly competitive accelerated 7-year BS/MD program with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where he graduated with top academic honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Husain completed his dermatology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC, where he served as chief resident in his final year and then completed a dual fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and cosmetic dermatology at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. There, he received extensive training in advanced skin cancer surgery and reconstruction as well as cosmetic procedures including injectables, body contouring, and laser surgery. Following fellowship, Dr. Husain worked in private practice in Washington, DC and New Jersey before establishing his private practice, Noor Dermatology and Aesthetics in Cary, NC. Dr. Zain Husain has delivered lectures on various dermatologic topics at national conferences and has authored numerous articles in prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals. He is committed to life-long learning and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS), and an active member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). In his free time, he enjoys watching movies, running, weightlifting, and spending time with his family. He loves to travel and explore different countries, cultures, and cuisines. Episode 025 | Dr. Teo Soleymani, a Los Angeles native, one of my Stanford residency mates, and founder of California Dermatology and Mohs Surgery Specialists (CDMS), completed his undergraduate studies in Evolutionary Biology at UCLA. He went on to graduate from the UC Irvine School of Medicine, where he received numerous accolades for academic excellence including induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Soleymani completed his internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was awarded the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching with Humanism Award. He went on to complete his residency at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. While at Stanford, Dr. Soleymani worked with world-renowned experts in cutaneous oncology and complex skin diseases. Following residency, he completed a rigorous fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Cutaneous Oncology, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Zitelli and Brodland Skin Cancer Center under the tutelage of John Zitelli, M.D. Considered by many to be the world's most prestigious and competitive fellowship, the program is directed by both John Zitelli, M.D. and David Brodland, M.D, widely considered to be two of the pre-eminent authorities in Mohs surgery. Notably, Dr. Zitelli, was trained directly by Dr. Frederic E. Mohs, the founder and pioneer of Mohs micrographic surgery. This direct lineage from Dr. Mohs enables Dr. Soleymani to give his patients the highest-quality Mohs surgery experience. Dr. Soleymani's unique fellowship training was the only program in the world that included fellowship training in both Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well. As a result he is one of only a handful of Mohs Surgeons in the world with dedicated specialized training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well, allowing him to provide the best possible functional and aesthetic reconstructive results. Prior to founding CDMS, Dr. Soleymani practiced as a full-time Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery at UCLA, where he was also the Director of the Pigmented Lesions and Melanoma Clinic, as well as Co-Director of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship Education and Resident Surgery Education programs. During his tenure at UCLA, Dr. Soleymani received local and national acclaim for introducing pioneering surgical treatments such as Mohs micrographic surgery with intra-operative immunostaining for melanoma and other high risk skin cancers. He developed UCLA's first Mohs Surgery for Melanoma program. In his spare time, Dr. Soleymani enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children, staying active, and traveling.Coincidentally, this episode is dropping on the one year anniversary of CDMS, Dr. Soleymani's now thriving private practice. Congratulations to him and his team!In this episode:

The saying "saving your skin" takes on extra meaning when you are outdoors. Living a "sun and fun" lifestyle can come with a price -- the sun's damaging UV rays and the risk of skin cancer. Hopefully, you practice safety by using sunscreens, hats and clothing to mitigate those harmful rays. Some people forget that sun damage and skin cancer can be synonymous. As spring and summer approach, how do we avoid skin cancer? And if it leaves a concerning spot on the skin, what do we do next? Host: Jonathan Fialkow, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Baptist Health who oversees Population Health, Primary Care, Cardiology, Endocrinology and other Medical Specialties Guest: Michael Raish, M.D., Mohs Micrographic Surgeon and Dermatologist, Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute

Summer’s just around the corner! But along with those warm sunny days also comes a serious threat: ultraviolet (UV) radiation. We all know that spending a bit too much time under the sun can cause sunburns. UV damage doesn’t just stop at the skin; it can also harm your eyes. Many Australians will remember the ‘Sid the Seagull’ campaign from the 1980s which launched the ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ message. Some things have changed since then but our sun is still the same. In commemoration of Skin Cancer Action Week, Marni will be speaking with Dr Adam Sheridan of Australasian College of Dermatologists and Cancer Council Australia. Dr Sheridan sits on the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD) committees for Mohs Micrographic Surgery and GP Training and runs the Joint National ACD and RCPA Mohs QAP. He is actively involved in the ACD specialist training and certification program. Dr Adam Sheridan undertook Specialist Dermatology training in Australia and the United Kingdom; including Clinical Research Fellowships in Dermatology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oxford, England. He specialises in the delivery of comprehensive skin cancer management, Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Medical laser. Dr Sheridan also served as a visiting Consultant and Senior Dermatological Surgeon at The Skin and Cancer Foundation. He is a published author and guest reviewer for the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. With two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70, the skin cancer action week is an important reminder to use sun protection and of the importance of early skin cancer detection for all Australians as we make our way into summer. Join us as Dr Adam shares the importance of skin cancer prevention, early detection, and the biggest misconception about skin cancer. Ellen Wood is my first amazing guest. At 74, she's on a mission to show people how to grow younger, and she is living proof that it's possible! In 2004, Wood began a daily program of practices she created with the goal of growing younger, and it worked. She's regained the energy she enjoyed 30 years ago; has a clearer, sharper mind and stronger body. This success in reversing the aging pattern lead Wood to share her techniques for growing younger. She's appeared on national and local TV and radio. In her first book, The Secret Method for Growing Younger, Wood describes processes to uncover and replace unconscious beliefs that block the possibility of growing younger. Wood's book has been endorsed by notable physicians including David Simon MD, Larry Dossey MD, and C. Norman Shealy MD, PhD. My second guest is Dr. Anthony V, Benedetto, who completed his internship, residency and surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He returned to Philadelphia to begin his practice in dermatologic surgery. He was the first physician in Pennsylvania to practice Mohs surgery for skin cancer. Dr. Benedetto is the founder and medical director of the Dermatologic SurgiCenter in Philadelphia, PA and in Drexel Hill, PA, where he practices Mohs Surgery and Cosmetic and Procedural Dermatologic Surgery. He's also the director of fellowship training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. He's currently Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Benedetto was named 'Dermatologist of the Year' (2009). He's authored and co-authored 65 articles in peer review journals and textbook chapters.
